For me personally - yes. I've already got around 40 hours of gameplay (and enjoyed every single one of them) and I suspect I'll get much more than that, since I've barely scratched the surface of the game.
The next beta weekend is 8-10 June and Arenanet mentioned that they will provide beta keys. So keep your eyes open and try to grab one of these.
It includes links with tons of informations from the link the guy before me gave you and additionaly links to the GW2 wiki that has more details about the lore, classes, races and everything else aswell.
If you are a fan of gear based games in which the one with the highest/best armor/weapon "wins" or a fan of the "guided quest system" like "go and kill 10 trees and come back" before you get the next quest to kill 20 trees and such, then this game might not fullfill your needs.
What I can recommend you to to take it the infos, watch a few videos (don't matter the quality of them cause the game looks gorgeous when you play it so the videos doesn't make it justice for the most part) and see if it offers what you need.
You can also wait a few months till the release and try it after when a test client or similar will be available aswell.
In my opinion the 49€ I payed were more than worth and everything in the game meet my expectations.
haveing played both, i say GW2 is worth abaut 10x more then D3, at least what i played of the personel storyline seems to be better written then most of D3, and the combat dose not force you to drink coffe to stay awak.
So I wasted my money on d3 and I had never played the beta on either games so I didn't know what to expect . Is gw2 worth the $60 in your opinion?
First $60 is average for any video game. Next I'm confident it will at least be GOOD if not very good.
Then you have B2P. Most mmo's start off $60 to $70 with 30 days free. Lets do some math of what you usually pay :
Most mmo's $60 + free month + pay month 1,2,3,4 = $120 in 5 months.
GW2 $60 = 5 month
Hay, You always have a very good option !........Hold off a few months, and see how things go first. Ahh, I'll bet you'll just run right out and buy it, am I right
D3 is simply a hack and slash game. With all hack and slash games the object of the game is to swing cast and run as fast as you can to the end of the quest. Simple as that !.....Nothing ever more !
I've been watching D3 on this live stream site I have, and all players seam like their board to death already. Before release I would watch all the Video footage given to us, In every case It looked boring. Same objectives, run from point x to point y with simple killing. You have three types of simple maps. Castle hallways, defined roads, and bridge settings. That's it, thats the game.
It's amazing how marketing still fools people. We had the same crap back in the 80's !!!!

Who made you authority when it comes to gaming enjoyment? Add to that the total lack of respect you have for other people's tastes. Makes me sick.
Sure OP I think so. But you dont even know me personally or anyone here.
So? Learn from your mistake, by looking at videos of it online. There are a ton on Youtube. Check the website out. Use google. Pour over it, as I found just doing that entertaining for an hour or two and decide for yourself. Look with a critical eye. If after that you think you like what you see then its a solid maybe. Check articles written by looking for previews.
This particular game has been very open by allowing players to record beta sessions and post videos. So go take a look . See if it fits your taste.
It sure doesnt hurt. Do it with everything. Worth saving 60 bucks if you dont like what you see before release. Or be patient and wait until after release and get an even better look then. There's no rush. Its all up to you. Just check it out and have fun doing your "research". Makes it sound lame but actually it can be pretty fun, especially with GW2. Hit Youtube and watch for a good while. Best advice I can give.
I should add that Diablo whilst currently being flawed (in gameplay and technically imho) is fun for a playthrough or two and so whilst not great value was not a complete bust.
In a mere 1 beta weekend and 3 hours of the stress test, I already feel like I've gotten my moneys worth. No hyperbole, I've really not enjoyed a game as much as GW2 for at least 4 years.
So I wasted my money on d3 and I had never played the beta on either games so I didn't know what to expect . Is gw2 worth the $60 in your opinion?
I bought this game on a whim the Saturday night of the last beta. I figured if it was meh it's not like I'll have to pay a sub so why not. Played it non-stop to the point of stayong logged in for nearly 24 hours barring server disconnects. I don't like tab target games and I didn't like Rift (props to Trion though), ToR was boring and DCUO was to grindy. So exactly why I like GW2 is kind of odd really.
I had no real history with GW in general so when I got into the game I really didn't know what to expect. After the tutorial I just wandered off down the river and killed a bird or something. Then I killed this guy who jumped out of a bush and he dropped a hammer. So I get the hammer and my ability changes to 1 again but then more of these guys are around so I just start hamering everything. A new abilty unlocked that was this ground-pound thing that sent them flying and that was pretty cool. I then noticed that I was in front of a cave and that about 10-15 or so it seems of these bandit guys come steaming out of it and then I was dead.
All I can say is that it didn't feel like playing a game as much as it felt like playing the character. I just wondered around thinking "what would my warrior do?" and bascially got into trouble. I saw a guy near the castle and he looked like a quest giver but all he did was tell me about what was in the gerneral area, sort of like a tour guide. I saw some people feeding cows by this buildings and some captain jack reject shouts "burn everything" and sets fire to hay bails and stuff. There were other players about at this point so I just joined in.
Even if this game tanks it's still one of the best fun for cash swaps I've seen in a while. No sub means I don't feel obligated to play all the time and I can take my time and enjoy the trip. From what I saw during beta and the stress test These guys run a tight ship. Beta to them seems to really mean beta and they do seem to listen.
What I am concerned about is:
Melee survivability during the events.
Dodging works against single foes but not so well in a prey-rich environment. It's hard to see the tells during all the action and they happen really fast.
I'm am eager to see the improvements in the coming weeks.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy. ______________________________ "This kind of topic is like one of those little cartoon boxes held up by a stick on a string, with a piece of meat under it. In other words, bait."

Based solely on the limited information in your post, Id say no. You will probably feel like you wasted another 60 bucks on GW2.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
i did not read too much about the game but i like the price plan on it as it fits with my life atm so i put the money in to it for the first beta to see if the game was what i wanted and to give the heads up to my friend about getting the game.
All in all i loved every part of the beta and am very happy with how my money went. If you have the money i would say this is a game worth investing in.
Whether the game is worth the money charged for it or not is based on subjective preferences.
Asking other people this question, you will get plenty of subjective responses which may be diametrically different.
Not to mention what others like, you may hate and the other way around.
Therefore, I consider this threat to be useless, but maybe I am wrong and this is a reasonable, well-thought-out thread.
Thanks for stating the obvious, captain. I did say in my opening post "Is gw2 worth the $60 in your opinion?". I'm not asking if I will like it or not, I'm asking YOU if you like it or not (perhaps some insight from beta testing) and what you think of it.

Should be pointed out that the above poster doesn't know anything about it personally and is just here to attack the game and start fights.
Regarding the OP who actually liked Gw1... I think Gw2 is currently missing a few of the key quality of life features from Gw1 or atleast a few things that were added later on in Gw1's lifespan. But regardless, Gw2 seems already has a lot more robust Content in it and larger better designed zones/movement. ...atleast that's what I've gotten from the 45 hours I spent in it so far. It will absolutely be worth retail price once we get it to Launch and do all the proper Stress testing that Diablo failed to do.
Regarding Diablo3.... I loved Diablo2... infact I spent last week playing it for like 60 hours in all just to relive it. But I knew Diablo3 was going to be bad for the past year or so. There was a lot of warning signs, especially if you followed the gaming business news about Blizzard and Activision and the path they've gone down lately. ....sorry to hear you lost $60 to them, I think everyone who fell into that trap should have been able to get a refund.

If you read the first sticky thread: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/view/forums/thread/337506/Guild-Wars-2-Mass-info-for-the-uninitiated.html
I think you will have a very clear view of what to expect. If I say it's worth 60$ it doesn't mean anything, you might still not like it
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums
I really liked the first guild wars (especially the combat and pvp)
In short, yes it will be worth it.

Stop buying unproven multiplayer games on day one if you value your money, thats my stance.
Wait for the product to show what it can do or forfeit your right to complain if it doesn't fit you.

Problem is that for EU players they convert the game to 60 Euro instead which makes it more expensive
Diablo 3 for russian players costed only like 20 Dolars which is unfair !
I got close to 85 hours out of D3 already. I think it earned itself back already.

I paid about $45 (thirty quid in our Great Brittish groats). I guess I must have bought a Russian one by mistake.......oops.

seriously, grow some balls and stop this whining.
gonna start to report all of those "better than d3" posts as trolling now. hf.
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
Even if it only lasts you a month, its still more than you would get from the the multitude of 8-10 hour $60 xbox/ps3 games out there.
any ideas about when it is officially released?
