What did you expect? since every mmo bascally copies and tries to be world of warcraft now a days, did you really expect a mmo released in the last few years, and for a bit in the future to not be a repetive, boring piece of shit? I've pretty much given up on mmorpgs, gonna play phantasy star online 2 when it comes out though since its the only mmorpg on the horizon that looks like its not a generic wow knockoff.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Not sure why this is shocking. It's been said a while that its literally taking kill/collect/escort/defend etc and just turning them into little scripted events and giving them to players differently(run into the area, instead of from a NPC).
The Pve in this game is same pve we've seen before, just a different wrapper.
Why I always been confused by those who for some reason think its some radicial new game chalk full of innovations.
To people who are getting bored, I'd try a new class with a fresh new race to see some other perspectives the game offers. I started out with a human necromancer and realized that the combination was one of the worst. I hated necromancers boring spells and human areas with centaurs. Then I changed to a norn ranger and loved both the class and the norn area. Graphics look goregous, I must say that I sometimes take a good minute to look around , especially in the cities, but to each their own I suppose... If you went in expecting something huge no wonder you came out dissapointed. Just remember to not do it for the next game because how it looks on paper will never be the same in game.
Game is ridiculously fun. I've been in since 11:20 this morning and am still having a blast.
If you stay in the same vicinity, then yes, you'll see some of the same events repeat. But as many people have stated, this game is all about exploration. If you wander, you will find a lot to do.
Try playing for more than a few hours and try to explore.

The problem for people who are complaining about repetetive events are the ones that don't go for the "oh i gotta save the village from being overrun by bandits" but instead "10 more bandits.. 9 more... 5 more.." I guess it depends if you like the idea of random things popping out of nowhere or instead looking at it as a grind and been there done that kinda thing
I love it. Any copy paste elements in GW2 are the same elements I fell in love with from their original games. I'm a sucker for typical MMORPGS. If Blizzard came out with a High Graphical Runescape clone, I would play that. Tibia in 3d, count me in. WoW in 2d, that would just be awesome (any 2d mmo is great though). People used to not complain about repetitiveness in games. Play a game to kill monsters and end up repetitively killing monsters, sounds like a good deal to me. Maybe OP should go play Mario party or something.

but that again is the problem if people doesnt follow the chains, and really to me GW2 have been the least repetitive MMO Ive ever played, am not much into quests myself, but without quests it is even more repetitive, so what game have people played that make them not like GW2, it certainly havent been a MMO.
as for not "buying into" the village getting overrun by bandits, I bet people doesnt look out for the NPC´s at all, and just run into the event rings and go frenzy on the NPCs, so they wont get any sort of story other than what they see...again...have never seen a MMO less grindy than GW2, but that come from one who actually enjoy the events so far, just cant help but picture people who complaint about grinding events, are people who just jump into every single ring they see, clear out the objective and then run off looking for the next, without ever see what happens when an event is done...see how the DE chain story evolves.
personally always hated quests in MMO´s, except the major, mainly group based, quest lines....but so far aint hating it in GW2 atleast, even if it certainly isnt more than, the by now normal singleplayer questing, but with a way better done visual part, and less hassle with people unable to ask for invites for updates, making the whole multiplayer part just a huge turn off for 99% of the game, which would make it more appropriate, to make the newer MMO offline singleplayer games, with an aution house ala diablo and make instances lobby based...
Since this is my first beta weekend for GW2, I have to say, it almost seems like someone from Mythic Entertainment was hired to develope the core game mechanics.
WvWvW style wars very similar to DAoC Frontier RvR system.
Event quests in GW2 very similar to WarHammer Public Quest system.
Thats just two of the main things I find extremely similar to Mythic's way of game design. Oh, in case your wondering, thats a very very good thing in my opinion.
the two main design devs for world vs world are from mythic Mike ferguson and matt witter. Ferguson was very much involved with DAOC rvr and I think Witter worked on rvr and world events in WAR. I think the best part of GW2 is the throwback design to DAOC that they are trying to fill. Weapon skills determine your abilites and relic and keep takes IE Orbs of Power. If you played DAOC then you should try out the world vs world. If you are on a dead WVW server transfer to a good one where people are actually fighting its just like the old days of DAOC almost. Also people are weak on builds since they do not know the game yet. We were actually able to make a decent guardian utility healer that in vent could cordinate healing for everyone was actually kinda fun since they said no healers ;P . Also on topic- if you do not like the pve of the game why not give the mists a try or structured pvp? The skill builds and classes are quite fun if you think pve is repetitive.
Whenever I start GW2 I'm not very excited. but I always end up playing for 3,4 or 5 hours. So I guess I must be having fun =]
I'm the kinda the same (only because I want to play the non beta version), ended up playing most of last night and I haven't even touched PVE yet. GW2 rocks !
Take a complimentary "Not your kinda game, good luck with another title". However, i do say I am amusing by the contradictions in some posts here. "Game's too easy, Melee dies fast", "I want a mature game. I miss WoW arenas/battlegrounds".
My advice is:
1 - Go oddball. I messed around with my skills and ended up with some immensely fun to play builds. No, they don't one-shot anyone. But they are engaging to play with.
2 - Don't feel you MUST take part and complete every DE that pops up in 10 miles around you. Work your objectives.
3 - Find decent company, and go WvW. Winning is just a nice bonus. I died my fair share and I was giggling like Julie Andrews all the way.
4 - It's a game, not a marriage, not a sibling.
Now let me try to sleep before I decimate my whole Saturday with GW2.

Perhaps I'm just fed up with the genre? That is what I've seen fans of the game suggest if you raise such complaints.
PS2 and Titan are the ones I'm interested in now, it's funny because, one and possible both are not even RPGs...
Not sure why this is shocking. It's been said a while that its literally taking kill/collect/escort/defend etc and just turning them into little scripted events and giving them to players differently(run into the area, instead of from a NPC).

Until humanity develop real articifical intelligence (which may never happen) - then you won't see radically "diffrent" PVE since it has to be scripted.
Three threads about the game being boring already?
This is another dud, go figure!
I have to say, I haven't played the game (yes, you can stop reading here) but I followed several gameplay broadcast and I was very surprised to see it wasn't anything as it was suspposed to be when you watched the trailers and the previews.
Ah well. Now let's wait for the usual procedure:
1 - Fanboys: games is great, its' your fault you don't like it.
2 - Game sites: 9/10
3 - ex Fanboys: i was so excited about this game but now i realize...

5 - We're talking every day, months later. I spent three hours of pay rawr!!!
6 - I've found a favorite personal opponent to argue with, now we're talking, 1000 pages!
7 - Haven't actually played anything for years, but still bitter and radical about it.
8 - Whatya mean I might be the problem? Are you some kinda smartass??
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

It'll be a dud for some people, and some people will like it. People have different tastes. If you're waiting for the MMO that EVERYBODY likes, and nobody can say 'I'm bored of it', then... well, you might want to look into cryogenic sleep until they come out with an MMO that has a direct mind interface and actually simulates you taking drugs, assuring that all peple who play it love it. (Or die, which leads to less forum posts from them).

*slowly nods head*
That's exactly what I expect. Unless there are some stunning changes to the game at later levels that I am not aware of.
Swtor fell flat for me only at max level ... but by gods, despite having the incentive to write a blog about my GW2 beta experiences, something I really enjoy doing, I can't and won't force myself to play this game any longer. So here's my blog entry:
"An intensely shallow mmorpg in a very attractive package."

I don't think this is going to happen with GW2. It's different from SWTOR where the arrogance came from the developers. Seems GW2 devs are being decent (i'm not following them too closely but that's my impression).
With GW2 the hype has come from the followers, and its understandable since the videos where simply amazing and the features looked great. Doesn't seem to be someone to "blame" if it goes dud, as it is the case with SWTOR. Not all works as planned and if you are honest, there's nothing to say.

Say what? Sorry, i like the game, but GW2 devs are full of it just like all devs. That dev tatoo (after BW's move, really?). Mike O'brien's "we'll be number one this time" (very funny indeed). Manifesto trailer making other mmorpgs look inferior. Lye says that their game is truly different and their taking a risk (like others aren't).
