If there's a market for it, people will go for it.. People obviously don't want PvP in their Alphabet soup so why try to make it into a casserole when it's fine the way it is? PvE, while not being the greatest, allows one to continually gain xp and loot as part of a treadmill ala leading the carrot in front of the nose but unable to reach it, you must continually strive for something and when it's PvP, it's just that.. PvP.

To many, after reaching the end-game, it will get boring. PvP proves to be ENDLESS fun as an endgame. Real Player Competition can go on forever, as FPS's show ...
I think people have the wrong idea about PvP, whats so bad about competing with one another. Were not taking away your right to play with one another, you're just playing against a smarter, faster, adaptable enemy. I think a real good PvP game has yet to be made, so people dont know the fun it can have. There should be Alliance Wars (multiple races allied, agasint other alliances), Race wars, Guild Wars, Inter-Racial wars, wars over territory, wars over commodities... once you add all this into a game, it will be continual fun, for years.

You can only attempt to outsmart your opponent if you have so many abilities. Unlike FPS games, there are not that many factors in RPG games other than loot and experience. Unless someone can create with a good system where everyone doesn't have the same cookie-cutter class ala UO or DAoC, then PvE is the best we're going to get in the meantime.
1 I think that PvP makes the game 2 There are some good PvP games out there 3 There needs to be PvE games for those who like to grind 4 I hate the tearm Carebear as Much as I hate the term Griefer (which Ive been called) 5 Ok this is like the 5 thread started by Horsas on this subject we know how you feel dude and in some ways I agree with you but let it go please
The carebear thing is nothing new. There are plenty of MUD1 players out there that would argue that most everything done in the past 20 years is carebearish.
It's clear that MMOs are tending toward a more casual friendly audience. The result being that many of the games have devolved into little more than a disney-ride of a game, but again this isn't a new trend.

there will allways be a market for both style's of a mmorpg. why does it allways gatta be pve vs pvp? who cares man play the game you like to play and leave it at that.
saying "the carebears are winning" makes absolutly no sence to me, what exactly are they winning? there will allways be pve games and there will allways be pvp games deal with it!
Muhahaha, the evil plots of us carebears to destroy any forms of PvP are finally suceeding! Meet your doom, PvPers *rubs hands evilly*

Good God, Horsas, give it a damn rest already. You've posted 2 topics complaining about "Carebears". Is it physically possible for you to just shut up already? You've been told why there are few to no Full PvP games.
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
PvP is fun. But the reson people are carebares is cause they get pked or have to pk or have to pvp when they dont want to. I like it when I can ask if someone wants to pvp or not. Thats all I have to say...
Games, ESPECIALLY RPG types, will always have PvE. Have you ever played Final Fantasy? Elder Scrolls? ZELDA?!? What do you think you're doing in those games?
It's not "carebear"ish. It's how RPGs have always worked... if you don't like it. Go find a different genre.

for you maybe. the problem is that half the PvP people are borderline retarted. There are some of us with things called lives that don't reach the end game a week after the game comes out. There are games out there with PvP like what you describe, why don't you try playing those games, and let those who have less time and want to spend as little time with the a-holes as possible have their games?

Single Player games.
Technically if you look at WOW, EQ, SWG. Those are just single player games with a chat room and occasional co-op.

So you think a game isn't a mmo if it doesn't have insane penalties? Is it that what defines a mmo?
First off let me say that I adore PvP. Love it. It's great....IF you're PvPing with a good group of people. The only problem is that probably 9/10 there's that one prick in the group who feels the need to spam "omg I pwn j00 AND j00r muth0r!" Yes, I've had that said to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't care if you tease or whatever, it happens. It even happens in real life in real wars. My problem is when it just doesn't stop...that one guy has to spam it 10 times to each person he kills, and he spams the same thing.
I've met people who just absolutely hate PvP. No idea why, but they do. You know that game KOTOR? How you can be good or evil? I met a guy who actually felt bad for needlessly killing the NPCs. That's right. He felt bad for it. Don't know why, but those types are just out there. Frankly, I loved killing them. Evil all the way baby!
But really, PvE has always and will always be there. Probably going to be the focus of MMORPGs for a loooong time. I think the problem is that with PvE it's the same. I know if I get killed I don't have to tolerate that guy who acts 9 and spams me, or /tells me. Same goes for if I kill it. I don't have to put up with /tells saying "Omg lag. You suck I could pwn you any day of the other...except today. n00bz0r." But with PvP you don't know. You might get spammed. You've DO have to put up with that guy who acts 9. Some people would just rather not put up with it.
I used to play Graal. That game had nothing to do except PvP. And you better believed I PvPed the piss out of that game. I had well over 15,000+ kills on ONE of their 7+ servers. I liked it because the servers were small, probably about 500 people per server. You knew who you were fighting against. You knew the people, they were fun, mature, and you could enjoy the PvP.
Now, I don't PvP as much on games like SWG because it's just not worth it.
For the love of all that is good give this crap a rest. Yeah, we get it that you're pissed that no-one is coming out with a game where there is full non-consensual PvP, full corpse looting, all deaths are permadeaths, and every time you die troop of babboons comes to your house and molests you for an hour. We get it, your oooh so much more hardcore than the rest of us and John Q. Gamer has ruined your hobby. This topic is done, the horse is dead, no-one cares anymore.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

did you know he used to whine in the wow pvp forums about there not being a FFA server with all these rules, and when some said he would like Lineage 2, he replied back Lineage 2 was too hard with its penalties so he went to wow
To many, after reaching the end-game, it will get boring. PvP proves to be ENDLESS fun as an endgame. Real Player Competition can go on forever, as FPS's show ...
I like PvP in an MMO but the whole "PvP = Endless fun" thing...that's not so much a fact as it is opinion. I like FPS games, but as far as I'm concerned, they get boring after a while of playing...you can only gank so much.
I need a reason to kill another player. whether it be unlocking new skills and abilities, getting cool loot or what have you. If I'm just mindlessly killing for the sake of killing, it will get old REAL fast.
DAoC is the only MMO to get PvP right, ever. SB was so close. and EVE...well i've heard that EVE's PvP is stellar, but I'll be damned if im gonna wait days or even weeks for my skills to train up one at a time.

Lineage 2.
I would play that game if I could kill a player and take all their loot. But you can't. When you kill a player in that game you gain nothing and the player loses experience I believe which is stupid. I'd rather kill a player and get all their items so I have something to gain.
In L2 you can delevel as well which is the lamest concept. The grind is so harsh you have to seriously be an idiot to play that game for 12 months to finally PVP. In PVP you get nothing.
