Guild Wars 2 is now the most popular game of the year on MMORPG

xposeidonxposeidon Member Posts: 384

After being a bit over half as popular as SWTOR 2 months ago or so. GW2 has seen a great increase in popularity during the last BWEs and it only keeps increasing. Congratulations to GW2 and its fans.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

Hehe, it's true, and while I think GW2 is deserving of its praise...I don't really think the fans should be proud or anything.  It's not like this is supposed to be a contest between games for the fans...regardless of if people treat it like that :).

GW2 is an amazing game and so far MMORPG players seem to have recognized that.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Did anyone NOT expect GW2 to be the most popular game on MMORPG in 2012 ? image

Congratulations to all the enthusiastic fans, after all, they are the ones who make it possible.

*cough* Er, wasn't SW:TOR the most popular game on MMORPG in 2011 ? image

Most popular in terms of what? You mean the hype meter?

Let's just pray that GW2 doesn't dive like SWTOR did. I checked the MMO releases till next year and there is really nothing on that list that looks interesting at all.

Since you know where the hype meter is you just have to click the tab called "Most Popular Games" where the hype meter is.

I completely agree, and don't understand why people treat it as such. The only reason to be this way about a GAME is if you were directly tied financially to the success of it.

It's still a pleasure, as a MMORPG player and fan since the early times of UO (and Muds before), to see that for once, it's a game that really deserves it that is the most popular, a game that kicks the stagnant hornet's nest that were MMOs these last 7 years, and not another WoW clone.

Was to be expected because it has been #1 on Top Voted games in development list for what, 1,5 years now?

But glad to see it's also on the top of the Most Popular list now, well deserved IMO and I hope it stays there for a long time :)

I hope all the (in my opinion well deserved) hype and praise GW2 is getting sends a clear message to game publishers/distributors/bankrollers: It's time to go back to the days of letting developers craft a game with the love and attention it deserves, and when you do that people will notice.

Not that they'll act on that message.

And also the message that the era of "WoW clones" is over... hopefully.

Tortage (AoC) was a pretty good game too. We'll see what GW2 really has to offer once it actually releases. Then you can start handing out your awards.

  • MrlogicMrlogic Member Posts: 178

Though end game is still a little bit shrowded in mystery I for one am certain this will not be another Sw:tor flop. In the BWe's I have seen so many things I want to see in a proper MMO and it will be appealing to almost everyone simply because the bag of treats is so diverse.

So IF you are still on the fence about GW2, atleast give it a try either during this last BWE or why not buy it, since there are no monthly sub, you aint got much to lose but ALOT to win.

    *cheers*

Some people hit 50+ (even at least one 80) during the beta. Unlike Age of Conan and Tortage, GW2 doesn't suddently change at level 20 to become crap. Big difference.

I'll wait until 3months post-release to see how GW2 actually holds up :).

A few SWTOR comments up there....

I followed SWTOR , read the manifesto played the beta then the game. What Bioware Hyped and promised was not delivered. (anyone that didn't follow swtor prior to 2011 wouldn't understand)

I followed GW 2 as well, manifesto read, interviews read, played the Beta it delivered every single thing that the game and community was based on.

That is the difference, SWTOR was hyped and the game was slowly transformed from a good initial idea to lowest common denominator. GW2 Was talked up to such a high level of expectation and it has achieved exactly that. The only complaints are from people that don't like what was promised initially not from people who are dissapointed with the current state of the game in comparison to what arena net set out to make.

im not financially tied to any sports team but i like to see my team be successful and then brag about it. why should gaming be any different?

GW2 is an awesome and well thought out game and anet deserves a big hats off and every award and mention they get later this year when even more people figure out that the hype isnt hype..

As far as fans go getting a great game that many will love to play for a long time is the prize..

I think as the BWEs became available and players got their hands on the game the GW2 community became privy to the fact that anet was going to deliver on what they had promised plus some and imho this community since then has done a great job of battling trolls and naysayers based on the known facts...

So yeah hats off to the GW2 community as well, the GW2 crue rocks!

    Playing GW2..
