After being a bit over half as popular as SWTOR 2 months ago or so. GW2 has seen a great increase in popularity during the last BWEs and it only keeps increasing. Congratulations to GW2 and its fans.
Based on hype. It's meaningless.

Popularity is meaningless? I'm sure it's not to the game developers and the overall community of the game lol you guys, gotta think a little.
The point, is that popularity IS meaningless online. It matters AFTER release for retention. Popularity prior to release is nothing more than a gauge for server stress at launch. SWTOR was EONS more popular than SWTOR (despite how much I also protested), and we see how that played out like the almost timeless games before it failing since 2004.
GW2 hype train is generating unrealistic expectations and "popularity". It means NOTHING until post-release.
It's sad too considering Bioware aren't the ones hyping this up to the extremes, but the players themselves this go around.
I'm sorry your StarWoW game wasn't very good and people left in droves. However, saying popularity pre-release has no meaning is rather foolish. Take it to the other extreme - if Guild Wars 2 had next to no popularity, what would people say then?
I'm sure there are tons of developers that would absolutely love to have the popularity levels of Guild Wars 2 before their game released as well.

SWTOR was "the most popular game of the year on MMORPG" last year before its release too.
I'll wait until 3months post-release to see how GW2 actually holds up .
Yeah let's wait 3 months to make sure the subscriptions don't take a dive - oh wait

Another person with horrible reading comprehension. Maybe you should go back and look at my SWTOR post history before trying to reduce my opinion down to childike levels simply because you disagree with the fact I'm pointing out a falacy.
Popilarity pre-release IS meaningless. If we were going by pre-release popularity then Diablo 3 and SWTOR were the best games to ever release in the past 2yrs....THAT is foolish. If GW2 had next to no popularity then it'd probably be a super-giant explosion with the same quality that they currently have. Look at WoW's release, it had such a small following but exploded in just under a year to MILLIONS.
I hate WoW & SWTOR as much as the next person, and didn't buy into the SWTOR hype either. That's not to say GW2 will be a trainwreck like SWTOR, but quite simply this "fluffing" of the already soaring hype-train is getting a little out of control.
The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.
What is cruel is how bad his reading comprehension is!
I can understand being patently misinformed, but man, reading what he did into my comment is abserd.
To be fair I don't think he even read your comment. So saying he had bad reading comprehension isn't really accurate. He simply replaced what he thought you'd say and then replaced what you actually said.

It was actually pretty lame and frankly I agree with Bionut.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

You know typing your text nicely in blue and white letters won't make you the smarter person. You seem to be the one to fail at reading comprehension actually still thinking that pre-release "Popilarity" is meaningless. It affects a game in many ways that you might not like. For example take Diablo's 3 popularity made it sell a lot more boxes than it probably should have.
Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
It's sad too considering Bioware aren't the ones hyping this up to the extremes, but the players themselves this go around.
How is it sad? It doesn't occur to you that there may be something behind the fact that it's the players hyping this game so much rather than the developers?
Also the players ramping up the hostility. A little early too, release still a month out.

Now which team do I choose this time? Not wishing to choose didn't help at all last time, I got assigned a team anyway.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Even funnier when the team you chose thinks you're in the opposition because you're not "extreme" enough.
Yeah...pretty infamous around here for folks doing that. God forbid you're objective about things and don't treat their precious as the one to rule them all or can find the positives in a game even if overall you were disappointed.

I did edit my post to cover that as well.

A. Restrict responses to only threads taking place outside the GW2 folder (thus help minimize, a little bit, "guilt by association").
B. Leave the biggest blowhards for others to handle (getting me out of his "me too" camp of followers/Little Dogs)
Under rule A, gotta take off from this thead now guys, have fun.

I believe GW2 will be the "most popular" MMO here for a long while, at least until Titan or EQN are showcased. This could be affected by how diverse the gameplay is in the long run. Every system gets old no matter how well done so hopefully there is some zigging and zagging in GW2. Worlds really should move around you and I hope the success of GW2 will have it included in future games.
Most popular game here. Yet if you talk to people on other MMORPGs about GW2, most of them have no clue what you are talking about.
here and lot more games foruns, in fact almost every forum about games/tech GW2 is very very popular
Yea ,I don't want anymore then 3 or 4 million people at the start anyways .....the 150k give or take playing most other MMORPGs can take their time and get a clue before they get converted .
You know I'm really looking forward to this game. Can't wait. On the downside it is rather clear this is going to be one of the more nauseating communities I've seen in mmos. Christ...

Did anyone NOT expect GW2 to be the most popular game on MMORPG in 2012 ?
Congratulations to all the enthusiastic fans, after all, they are the ones who make it possible.
*cough* Er, wasn't SW:TOR the most popular game on MMORPG in 2011 ?
Let's just pray that GW2 doesn't dive like SWTOR did. I checked the MMO releases till next year and there is really nothing on that list that looks interesting at all.
If nothing else, beta weekends just get me more and more interested about the game (even tho I've been following it for years)... Not something I can say for SWTOR. After the "freeforall" beta on SWTOR I was kinda let down and wasn't so excited about the game so much afterwards.
On the other hand, beta weekends in GW2 make me wanna play the game even more than I did before the bwe. Every time xD.
That gotta count for something, atleast in my case.

Waiting on: Guild Wars 2
