if there are that many abilities that macros are needed then you must be doing something wrong ..
Ridiculous prices in the cash shop. In a 500 man guild? Get ready to pony up $40 on launch day to make your guild.
thats just a rediculous statement altogether and alot of untruth to it .. like someone stated before it takes gold for a guild not gems and no one is forced to buy anything in cash shop to play the game and anyone who does buy things will not have an advantage over someone who does not buy anything in the cash shop ..
Yeah macros aren't about hitting 50 keys and doing a rotation, its about faster response time. Sure I could hit all 3 of my buff keys and then hit my big attack. Guess what the time it takes me to do that is gonna be about .5 seconds if I'm really fast. Macro cut that time down to about 100ms or less depending on latency.
there is a general cooldown between actions, You can never have this in almost any MMO i played.
You guys all missed the point about the guild cost. On day 1 no one is going to have enough gold to upgrade their guild up to a level that will hold 500 players. Its 4 gold and 12 silver per member to get the guild upgraded to hold 500. No one is going to remotely come close to that amount of money until at least a week after launch or more. So either A the guild doesn't get all the members in until they pull together the required money , or they have to hit up the cash shop and buy gems, then convert them to gold to make their guild and get all their friends in. Thats ridiculous and absolutely needs to be changed.
to much nonsense inhere for me to bear any longer

There is no GCD between many of the actions in GW2, like hitting sigils, swapping weapons, swapping pets, certain attacks. Please don't respond in here anymore, its pretty obvious you haven't even played the game and are just responding through the side of your mouth.
Sorry who are you? So if you stay or go will anyone know? No you post HERE where you know they don't hang out and wont read this.

Sorry the game will do great for a few years.. if were all still here. Not looking good out side.. pick the right side..

There is no GCD in Guild Wars 2 (thank god) but most abilities have some activation time, you can't activate 2+ utilities at the same time

and im sure that a 500 man guild going into GW2 knows about this and is prepared for this and GW2 isnt the first MMO to have limits in the beginning of how many can be in a guild .. some MMOs made you gain guild levels and earn gold before adding new mmebers to it .. and also you can switch between guilds at anytime you want or be in as many guilds at the same time so im sure that a guild that size would have a plan A, B, or C on how to handle pleasing its member base .. and im sure on launch day would be very hard to earn enough gold via gems as most people wont have a ton of money yet .. exchange rate might be poor that day .. might not but quite possible ..
To be fair I never said it sucked, you just thought I said that. Need to take your fanboy goggles off.
The DX9 is more than just sub par graphics for an game in 2012. DX9 is part of the FPS problems the game is having.
Game doesn't look nearly as good as Tera which launched in what 2010 in Korea?
And you keep bringing up old games, with old engines. Just because a company plops DX11 down on a 10 year old engine doesn't mean its going to all of the sudden look like cryengine 3 game. So please stop comparing GW2 graphics to games that are 6-10 years old.
For a game thats a new launch using an engine that at most should be 3 or 4 years old, and still is using DX 9, thats a problem.
What exactly is the problem using DX9 instead of DX11 exactly ?
What features from DX11 would you like to see being used which DX9 can't do ?
not to say i agree with him but, optimizeation. its really time to be mocing on to better libraries. we cant keep supporting something as aging as 9.
That is really the only thing I'd see DX11 to be used for in this, but again - they will most likely make DX11 a possibility, I believe that has been discussed before on these boards at some point, but having DX9 should still be in or you'd certain exclude a large amount of players... as unfortunate as that might be
i find it to be more about coddleing the players who are sticking ot it, if you have not upgraded to atleast a DX11 which is years old, your holding back the industry and not really much of gamers.
naa.. I upgraded years ago ;p.. - I certainly wouldn't mind having DX11, but I don't see it as a huge issue that GW2 is currently only supporting DX9 - since they do display what DirectX version you use under options, I would believe them to upgrade to DX11 at some point atleast - I do hope so, for perfomance sake, but other than that, its not really a huge issue - atleast having tesselation is cool and all, but when you are in the action most of the time you barely notice it, atleast those games i've seen tesselation in has been poorly implemented in a way that you didden't really think of if tesselation was on or not (crysis 2 for one) and just dragged down the perfomance of the game >_<..
Yeah macros aren't about hitting 50 keys and doing a rotation, its about faster response time. Sure I could hit all 3 of my buff keys and then hit my big attack. Thats all well and good. But I have the hardware to do macros without the game. It will give me a nice advantage over people that don't have that kind of stuff.
I have a full understanding of the combat, thats how I know macros are going to be very useful for high levels of play. The reason the macros need to be done in game is to level the playing field for everyone. But I suspect the reason most people are saying they don't want them is just a reactionary response to an critiscm of their favorite game and has nothing to do with reality.
I can see why the game is not charging a sub at launch. Its missing many basic QOL and functionalities of a standard MMO and its got some serious issues.
No dungeon finder.
No Macros.
No mounts.
No DPS meter or at least a parsable combat log.
Zones instead of an open world.
Running directx 9, in 2012. They might be updating this.
Clunky movement and jumping. Really noticeable when trying to do the vista achievements.
Combat is a spam fest. Mash 5 keys, weapon swap, mash 5 keys rinse repeat. Definately a step sideways in combat department.
PVE in the structured PVP matches. Thats a joke. They said they want this to be an E-Sport and they added PVE mobs that give points to a PVP match?
Broken Q in sPVP. This one really irks me because this will be the second supposed "Tripple A" MMO that will launch in a year with a broken PVP Q.
Extreme FPS and lag issues in WvW. WvW is a complete zerg fest.
Major bugs going on. Sigils on weapons not working right. Abilities not working. Abilities/traits/sigils with little to no description of what they actually do. Traits not working right. Ground AOE falling through the earth all over the place and not working. Ground placed items that don't work, fall through the ground.
Class balance is non existant, one class can hit for 12k and burst someone down in about 3 seconds, while other classes are completely gimp.
Ridiculous prices in the cash shop. In a 500 man guild? Get ready to pony up $40 on launch day to make your guild.
Hope they can fix some of this stuff before launch, but I'm not to sure they can get even half of that stuff done. Guess we'll have to settle for another sub par MMO launch. Like I said earlier at least they aren't charging a sub.
I agree with you. Don't give them money! It's not worth. Instead of it, buy Pandaria and enjoy!

some of us are saying we don't want them because we see no use for them.
you brought up how you would like to swap your pet and buff yourself on your ranger or something to that effect? that may be all well and good on a ranger/engineer but i didn't really play those classes much so i have no idea what you are talking about. i just have to take your word that it could be useful.
i did play a warrior quite a bit, and guardian. can't think of a use for macroing on either of those classes.
you may be right about them being useful on a ranger, i have no idea.
I actually agree with him on a lot of points and I bought the game.
Just because he states actual facts on some of his points and it is shining a negative light on a game you guys like, there is no need to fanboi up and call him a troll...how childish.
I thought the GW2 community was much better than this.
The game does have issues and a few serious ones whether you want to admit it or not but blindly defending it is ridiculous.

I don't understand comments like this one. He made no valid points, nobody blindly defended the game, they just mentioned how wrong the OP is. Why do you call this blindly defending when there is no issue with anything the OP said as it was explained by so many people already? He made misinformed and false statements, people corrected him, why is that bad?
Care to enlighten us of the issues? Because those posted by the OP aren't issues at all

On the contrary, GW2's community is not the issue. It's the people that keep trying to get stuff like macros, ability spamming, and dps meters into a game designed around a different philosophy. I enjoy all those things but they make little sense in this game.
The only thing i agree with the OP on is a seemless world and a few broken sigils.
The big boys who are escared to let macros into their game, or mounts or damage meters? Because real men don't care how good they play, they know they are the best and thats all there is to it, amirite?
you need a fluffy kitten or dragon or something to ride around on to validate your manhood?
Dragon has to be oiled up though.
[mod edit]
We (those who are going to play GW2) do not want several specific mechanics from wow for a very specific reason; they, the mechanics of which we do not want, are what we believe to have made wow the game which has caused us to leave in the first place (at least in my case).
This has nothing to do with any sociopathic perversions of oiled up dragons [mod edit], this has everything to do with players liking certain mechanics over others and disliking other mechanics for very good reasons.[mod edit]

i do agree with him on one or two minor points in some small way. for instance i would like the game to run lag free with good fps and not have sPVP queue bugs. maybe there were one or two others.
but those are beta issues that were acknowledged as problems by the devs.
a mixture of some actual valid concerns (that should have ben labeled beta concerns and not missing/buggy stuff in the game) along with some off-the-wall stuff like dungeon finders maybe just killed what validity there was in the post?

not every utility skill works the same or is instant cast .. take meditations from guardians which unless traited for are not instant cast but shouts are for warriors .. some utility skills need to be ground targeted and others dont .. some of those big hitting abilities you talk about need to be carefully setup so not be countered or avoided by very good players ..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVVXUGsvUnA

I looked around a bit and it seems you can't swap pets repeatedly in combat. Already knew you cant keep swapping weapons there is a cooldown on all the reasons people have stated for macro's. I personally use a controller so i have no problems swapping weapons or using my f1-4 while triggering any other abillities but maybe some would find it useful who play with mouse and keyboard.
Indeed, the haters on the GW2 community are the worse I've ever seen in all my years of gaming. Just posting without facts or a tiny bit amount of truth, just to stir up trouble. And then they resort to the old "raging community", "fanboys" without answering the counter arguments.

The first swap is instant guy, no gcd. So to spell it completely out for you.
Macro would look like this.
/cast pet swap , **Gain quickening zephyr for 2 seconds, acting fast is of the essence now* /cast channeled longbow or any other big damage attack, /cast autoattack
Another ranger macro that would be useful. /cast pet swap , /cast pet range pounce. Would give you an instant knock down. Vice hitting those abilities one at a time might take 500ms or longer.
Or for engineers to keep constant regen and might up. /cast equipmedkit , /cast equipweapon.
Or for warriors , /cast buff , /cast buff, /cast bull rush.
Or whatever other combo. There are a ton of abilities that don't have a GCD and macroing them is just more effective and quicker.

for the warrior, /cast buff.. do you mean like -- a shout?
are you asking for a second action bar just for macros? you wouldn't want to shout every time you bull rush.. and you certainly wouldn't want to bull rush every time you shout.

I personally use a controller so i have no problems swapping weapons or using my f1-4 while triggering any other abillities but maybe some would find it useful who play with mouse and keyboard.
the pet cooldown swap has to do with their health. If your pet dies and you swap it will have the longest cooldown
Indeed, the haters on the GW2 community are the worse I've ever seen in all my years of gaming. Just posting without facts or a tiny bit amount of truth, just to stir up trouble. And then they resort to the old "raging community", "fanboys" without answering the counter arguments.
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums
Interesting... for being such a Tera fan, I'm surprised. I wonder what he will do when (not if) GW2 out performs Tera in every which way.
for the warrior, /cast buff.. do you mean like -- a shout?
are you asking for a second action bar just for macros? you wouldn't want to shout every time you bull rush.. and you certainly wouldn't want to bull rush every time you shout.
