Seems a lot of those complaints are about the design choices. Sorry but those aren't going to change. Some bugs will certainly be correctable.
Design choice or not some of the stuff they have done is just plain wrong. LIke no dungeon finder. Once game launches and the chat spam gets to unbearable levels in the city, they'll probably put one in, just like every other MMO that thought they could launch without a dungeon finder.
No mounts? Really, what design choice would prompt this? I have a few ideas, but you guys seem to be pretty pissed off already, I'd hate to completely rain on your parade.
No damage parser or DPS meter? Thats just ridiculous. They should know by now the forums are gonna light up after launch when people start wiping in dungeons. They should preempt the negative posts/press by just putting it in, people want it. Its pretty much needed for any kind of difficult content and for judging a builds worthiness.
The one big world vs zones is just dated tech. Not much they can really do about that now since they are using such an old engine.
i really just think you're off the mark about what the community wants and will want. on this there is no reason to argue.
you're extrapolating, the reason you should not extrapolate is due to singular and/or anomalous events.
if my meaning is hazy -- you are predicting the future based on the past. this can yield poor results due to changes in patterns or circumstance. sort of like how if i take a drink of water from my glass every 2 minutes you might say "in 2 minutes he will drink" after i take a drink.
this doesn't account for the fact that i may no longer be thirsty or my glass may empty at some point. that is why you don't extrapolate.

It only takes 5 to run a dungeon, it won't take too long (not nearly as much as in wow) and most people won't need trade chat cause they'll prob know enough people in their own guild to run with.
They may yet still add mounts, just not right now. The system they have in place really does not require mounts, and it does encourage exploration, which is part of the purpose of the game.
You and the DPS meter. When I played a gnome mage in WOW I used to be obsessed with the DPS meter, until I realized that I wasn't paying attention to the game ("not smelling the roses") and was just focused on out-dps'ing the other dps in my party/raid. As one who was "hooked" on dps meters, I hope Anet never introduces a dps meter into GW2, cause I think it would take away a lot from the experience of the game.
As for zones vs open world, I'm fine either way, it did not affect my gameplay experience at all, and I don't think it will be noticable (for the most part)... at least not enough to have to re-design the whole game to satisfy the few wow/tera self-absorbed "elite" players.
The dungeon finder is not needed, not yet. It'll probably rear its ugly ugly head in the future tho. As for mounts, they'll be there too someday I'm almost positive about that, people are way too willing to pay out the big money for them on cash shops..me included..yeah I bought a sparkle pony when I played WotLK...
I've never liked the idea of DPS meters tho, even in wow where you were all but forced to use one. It never seemed to me a tool to improve, more used as a tool to segregate. More importantly, GW2 just doens't need it. The combat system doesn't really require the fine tuning of every stat point that other games might. Knowing your build and how to use it in combination with those around you, that'll be what pushes your group forward, not the leet dps.

This, it's purely a bigger dick competiton when DPS meters get involved.

I understand it if you like mounts. Mounts are cool and a feature that ppl ask about a lot. Even the devs mentioned that they are considering it. But with map travel they are also kind of obsolete and degraded to just a fun factor, nothing more. At least not needed for faster travel anyway. Actually it could change PVE balance because of the speedbuff that everyone gets with a mount. Thinking that just adding mounts would be no problem is kind of short sighted imo.
This, it's purely a bigger dick competiton when DPS meters get involved.
I completely agree. As a recovering dps-user who used to compare dicks all the time in WOW (my gnome mage did kick some ass!) I can say whole heartedly that I do not want in any shape or form DPS meters in GW2.
Seems a lot of those complaints are about the design choices. Sorry but those aren't going to change. Some bugs will certainly be correctable.
Design choice or not some of the stuff they have done is just plain wrong - In your OPINION. LIke no dungeon finder - Don't need it . No mounts? Really, what design choice would prompt this? Don't need them with the quick travel system I have a few ideas, but you guys seem to be pretty pissed off already, I'd hate to completely rain on your parade. Please do, I'd love to see why mounts are needed, in your opinion

I have to agree with DJ Jazzy. All of these complaints are about design choices or bugs. Bugs will be fixed. Design choices were made for a reason. If you don't agree with them that's fine but you can't expect Anet to just change their whole design because you want them to.
Ranting on and claiming certain things are "just plain wrong" because you don't like them won't get you anywhere. I don't want a Dungeon Finder, or a DPS meter, or mounts. Does that Make Anet right now? Is your opinion more valid that mine?
It's not about right and wrong, but preference and choices.
A dps meter would be a bit counter productive and a bit destructive in a game like GW2. It is a game about damage avoidance and control then just straight up damage.
Seems a lot of those complaints are about the design choices. Sorry but those aren't going to change. Some bugs will certainly be correctable.

Sure do hate it when I have to get serious after such a fun rampage of giggly posts. Someone say something stupid again please. *looks at Brac* That's yer "q" bro. (See what I did there?)
i'm gonna say something from a GM / Raid leader point of view having been both in WoW, through WoTLK and Cata uptill dragonsoul when i quit, also in SWToR for a brief period - those 2 will do, there has been mixed games from EQ1 - recently launched TSW but no point bringing everything into the equation WoW is most relevant as recount was a complete combat parser utility instead of just a dps meter.
Combat parses have a place in games, especially when it comes to end game PvE content, they are excellent tools for the GM / Officers - raid leaders to use to gauge a group as a whole, find out who is a weak link not just in damage but damage avoidance, getting out of the bad spots etc.. and helping a group become stronger as a whole. You need to be able to pinpoint the weak spots in a RAID group to be able to reinforce the structure and clear relevant content.
That being said, it has no place in GW2, with no "instanced raids" and dungeons being completable by any mix match group etc... it's unrequired. with emphasis on skill / utility over raw dps it's easy to see your weak links, you dont need a combat parser to see what your eyes are showing you.
2) Macros don't work for action-based combat. And, they certain don't work when skills are changed with each weapon. Also, again this is a lazy person's play style. Why?
Ever play FFXI?It's skills are based on the weapon as well and uses predominantly macros.Ever play Unreal Tournament or Quake? It is all about the macros, that is as action as it gets my friend. The other problem is ,so what if it doesn't work for YOU,maybe others might want them?
3 Mounts You know that is a pretty lazy argument to just say who needs them.Mounts and housing are probably the two most wanted content ideas going in the MMO industry.Other developers who we expect to make excuses when showing a LACK OF effort at least say things like we are working on it or it doesn't fit into our budget. The thing about MOST of A-Nets design shows LESS effort than more. You see the LACK OF "excuse" works great if you show MORE effort over all in the game. When i see things liek buildings with no insides or doors,it pretty much confirms the "cheap""lazy" approach A-Net was going for.
"Spam-Fest I can't personally comment on this but perhaps has do with the limitations of choice?I can use FFXI for example, you gain a spell/ability you can use it FOREVER,no restrictions on choice and even level 1-5 spells/abilities are useful throughout the game.Example yo uare not given 75 spells and told yo ucan only use 10 of them, that would be totally unrealsitic, are yo uto assume your player forgot the others?
To save from a long post i will comment on the way point. It is a poor argument when you contradict your own argument. You say the game encourages you to "stop and smell the roses" then go on to say /waypoints are great.Well if you are just auto warping you are NOT stopping to smell the roses and you are NOT enjoying the beauty of exploration and travel, only that one time ,then it is all as automated.
What i expect in a Role playing game is some form of realization.Example i will use my old FFXI as an example. The White MAge learns the travel portal spells, but as a realsitic mage it has to LEARN it over time. Then they have to do quests to achive the skill/spell.Then the game created Crags magic portals to teleport to ,so it al lmade sense in a magical way.To do what A-Net is doing is not even realistic, you just allow every player to warp around.
That detracts from LORE,how is it EVERY race can just warp around the game with no plausible reason, other than they have been there before? You see once again this design approach points to LESS effort than more and that is Always the trend A-Net chooses in it's design.
Last point becuase dude kept using it over and over in his defense of the games lack of's.He kept mentioning "LAZY" and WHY? Well is this /waypoint not the laziest thing you can put into a game? You see i think that poster made it obviosu he was just being defensive and not fair to criticism of a games l;ack of effort becuase he contradicts his own comments.

If a game is about skill rotations, a dps meter actually has a (although marginally) practical use. But in GW2 combat style it just doesn't make sense to have it. The OP will be facerolled time after time untill he starts realising that GW2 doesn't play like a skillrotation MMO.
Autoit or AutoHotKey will satisfy all of the macro requirements mentioned so far in the thread, as they have done since before time. Of course particularly lazy macroers will already have programable keyboards.
Okay, well it's been fun folks. This post has carried me a good 2 hours now but alas it's time for me to shut my eyes and call it a night. Joocheese, it's been a blast, if you're looking for some folks to game with once GW2 launches give me a hollar. Kriminal66, I'll do my best to grow that pair you were talking about (I know your'e still lurking out there). Brac, seriously let me know what server you'll be on cuz I'm guna make sure I avoid that one as hard as I can. To the rest of ya, good evening, have fun and be nice...ish.

i can see how focusing on other areas of the game then mounts and player housing could be a bad thing. they definitley should have done that and ignored dynamic events or something, you know who needs a slightly less boring approach to the old quest system, i get it FFXI was the god of mmo's or something and this game doesnt even have mounts. while i agree that the spell system was a lot better back then, it isnt feasible these days and i think Anet have done a good job to satisfy the instant gratification crowd and the rest of us who are used to rediculously stupid grinds in games.
at some point you have to realise that Anet is still a business and they are trying todo right by TODAYS market, i dont personally like the instant travel locations, but on the same note i refuse to use them unless i'm say on another map and someone asks me todo a dungeon with them, i'm not going to run all the way back. same as the scouts, i refuse to use scouts, i go out into the world emerse myself in the game and find adventures as i roam.. and completely ignore scouts, because it takes away a lot from the game.
Anet gives you choices, todo as you wish with... use the scouts follow the hearts; dont use the scouts find your own adventure. explore a rich and vast land; use teleporters and jump around everywhere ignoring half the content.
they are tailoring a game to as many markets as they can so instead of just saying "this is how it is" they have done there best to instil choice into the game and try and let you decide how you want to play it. would i like mounts, yeah of course.. would i like housing yes but no it doesnt phase me that much and also a lot of developers skip housing because it's one of the most requested features that then goes on to be one of the least used features and was counter productive for the game to invest time into in the first place... Guild halls would be more appropriate given the games title and would be a good place to store guild trophies / achievements etc... but who knows maybe in the future.

As long as they're not much faster than running, and for mostly cosmetic purposes, I would have nothing against mounts in GW2; they would prob just put them in the cash shop (great way for the devs to make extra cash!).

I think that macro's could be helpfull yes. But developers often don't want to see their game played with macro's. In those cases they don't allow macro's. There is not much to it actually.
And mounts only create an extra problem to solve with dynamic events system. Mounts would be degraded to just fluff because of the already existing fast travel system , I can understand that the devs are not adding those for launch. They are considering it though.
And yeah, macro's are for convenience. Automating your combinations means you don't need as much control over your combat. Because it saves you having to practice the timing of some combinations. So yeah, I can see why others see that as lazyness. Especially with the low amount of skills in the shooters that you mentioned.
I can see why the game is not charging a sub at launch. Its missing many basic QOL and functionalities of a standard MMO and its got some serious issues.
No dungeon finder.
Yeah, but it is a rather new feature and still not that common. Personally I don´t care much for it.
No Macros.
In my book that is a good thing, here you will be forced to time things yourself. Macros suck.
No mounts.
No, they have teleporting points instead. Mounts will be added eventually though.
No DPS meter or at least a parsable combat log.
Yeah, all the worlds twinks are crying. Another feature that makes MMOs more boring taken away.
Zones instead of an open world.
The game were actually originally intended to be open (source: Lead designer Jeff Strain) but it would affect the performance too much making the servers too small. But frankly are most of the MMOs instanced. It is annoying but at least are the zones a lot larger than AoC.
Running directx 9, in 2012. They might be updating this.
They disabled the dx 10 in the beta, yes. Why that would be a reason to pay less for the game is beyond me, betas are rarely 100% feature complete.
Clunky movement and jumping. Really noticeable when trying to do the vista achievements.
For me it floats perfectly, maybe it is yor computer or ISP?
Combat is a spam fest. Mash 5 keys, weapon swap, mash 5 keys rinse repeat. Definately a step sideways in combat department.
You die a lot or have not passed level 15, right? You need timing to ply longer than that but the first levels can just be spammed.
PVE in the structured PVP matches. Thats a joke. They said they want this to be an E-Sport and they added PVE mobs that give points to a PVP match?
Yeah, there are some matches like that, others without it. Just play the ones you prefer.
Broken Q in sPVP. This one really irks me because this will be the second supposed "Tripple A" MMO that will launch in a year with a broken PVP Q.
You have to be a bit more specific, how is it broken?
Extreme FPS and lag issues in WvW. WvW is a complete zerg fest.
First of all is it still a beta. performances are never great then, secondly a lot of it seems to be you.
Major bugs going on. Sigils on weapons not working right. Abilities not working. Abilities/traits/sigils with little to no description of what they actually do. Traits not working right. Ground AOE falling through the earth all over the place and not working. Ground placed items that don't work, fall through the ground.
I seen a few, particularly in BWE1 but I actually seen more in almost all newly released MMOs, only exception is really LOTRO that instead released with close to zero content.VBut yeah, there are still issues, that is why they had a beta.
Class balance is non existant, one class can hit for 12k and burst someone down in about 3 seconds, while other classes are completely gimp.
And class balance is perfect in which MMO? All of them including Wow is as bad or worse, the only online RPG with good balance is GW and that took years.
Ridiculous prices in the cash shop. In a 500 man guild? Get ready to pony up $40 on launch day to make your guild.
Yeah, the cashshop is filled with expensive junk, but fortunatley we don´t need the crap.
Hope they can fix some of this stuff before launch, but I'm not to sure they can get even half of that stuff done. Guess we'll have to settle for another sub par MMO launch. Like I said earlier at least they aren't charging a sub.
Have you ever played a MMO at launch? As I said a bit up, only LOTRO was in better shape and it had almost no content, it took over a year before it had enough of it. Wow was a disaster at the US launch in nov '04 but since all MMO launching before Wow was even worse it got away with it. And all those games had hours to wait before you even could start playing, GW2s overflow servers makes that wait optional if you just must log into the real server.
Rift was actually in about the same shape as GW2 and have been updated a lot since. Otherwise there is AION and TERA but both those games had already been out for 1 1/2 years in South Korea so comparing the game to them is unfair.
I started playing MMOs in 1996, I played many betas during the years and this is besides LOTRO the best by far. It ain´t perfect and there are still a few bugs, particularly in the stuff they just added for BWE or changed but if all MMOs were this polished at launch I would be a happy camper.
Of Wow, EQ and the rest were worth a 15 bucks sub together with the boxprice at launch then so would this game be.
But yeah, compared with most singleplayer games this is far from great.

[mod edit] when it is all in the same regard, you're talking about QoL features expected by todays standards.. well none of those games had them at launch and most of them were in far worse shape... it's all relevant
I can see why the game is not charging a sub at launch. Its missing many basic QOL and functionalities of a standard MMO and its got some serious issues.
No dungeon finder.
No Macros.
No mounts.
No DPS meter or at least a parsable combat log.
Zones instead of an open world.
Running directx 9, in 2012. They might be updating this.
Clunky movement and jumping. Really noticeable when trying to do the vista achievements.
Combat is a spam fest. Mash 5 keys, weapon swap, mash 5 keys rinse repeat. Definately a step sideways in combat department.
PVE in the structured PVP matches. Thats a joke. They said they want this to be an E-Sport and they added PVE mobs that give points to a PVP match?
Broken Q in sPVP. This one really irks me because this will be the second supposed "Tripple A" MMO that will launch in a year with a broken PVP Q.
Extreme FPS and lag issues in WvW. WvW is a complete zerg fest.
Major bugs going on. Sigils on weapons not working right. Abilities not working. Abilities/traits/sigils with little to no description of what they actually do. Traits not working right. Ground AOE falling through the earth all over the place and not working. Ground placed items that don't work, fall through the ground.
Class balance is non existant, one class can hit for 12k and burst someone down in about 3 seconds, while other classes are completely gimp.
Ridiculous prices in the cash shop. In a 500 man guild? Get ready to pony up $40 on launch day to make your guild.
Hope they can fix some of this stuff before launch, but I'm not to sure they can get even half of that stuff done. Guess we'll have to settle for another sub par MMO launch. Like I said earlier at least they aren't charging a sub.
Just for reference, none of those things are "MISSING". They're not in because they're not a core mechanic of the game and this game is mixing up the usual BS clones that other games have become.
1) /say and /map work great, no need for a lazy man's dungeon finder. And the dungeons are marked on the map, what's there to find?
2) Macros don't work for action-based combat. And, they certain don't work when skills are changed with each weapon. Also, again this is a lazy person's play style. WHY?!
3) Mounts? Who needs those. This game has speed buffs on almost every class, besides having Magical Waypoints and Asura Gates. And, the exploration of this game makes players WANT to stop and smell the roses, not rush past them
4) DPS meter/Parser? Really? You want this to be a numbers race? That stuff is so lame. It's not FUN to just sit there and crunch numbers. If you think it is, please by all means there is FREEWARE that comes with all versions of Windows called a CALCULATOR.
5) The zones are huge! So what if you have to portal. Players had to do that in Age of Conan, WAR, City of Heroes, Champions, DC Universe, and dozens of other games. Big whoop. The zones have far more graphical prowas than that of other games too
6) See part #5, but the graphics on this thing surpass that of Age of Conan, and it's DX10. So, ya. Just because it's DXwhatever, doesn't mean it sucks. This game is B-E-A-UTIFUL!
8) You have no understanding of some of the PvP systems. Sure, there's SOME PvE targets, but the main focus is PvP. Tisk, tisk.
10) Queues are being worked on, that's what a Beta is for. They said it's getting revamped before launch.
11) No FPS issues on my end, must be your computer.
12) I've never ONCE seen issues with siege weapons, or abilities, going off wrong. Care to give a specific detailed example?
13) Yes, balance isn't 100% perfect. Oh, no! It's still something they're working on. I've never seen a class that can "3 hit" a person as you claim, but whatever. The classes seem far more balanced than that of current state WoW, that's for sure.
14) Um, no. It costs GOLD to get a 500 man guild registered, NOT GEMS. Unless you're counting Gem-to-Gold conversion, which would be foolish of the guild. They can just get every member to donate 5 Silver. 5x500=2500, or 25 GOLD. Holy cow! So easy!
15) Your trolling effort is totally bust. Please, stay in WoW where you belong. All your complaints match that game to a "T" without need of mentioning the name.

I kinda laugh'd at the macro section... I myself hate playing wow that i have to use 100 macros because there are too many skills for little things. I bet there is alot more than just me that are against macros.
Comments
Well really you have two choices, find another game, or deal with that they don't have the exact features that you want.
i really just think you're off the mark about what the community wants and will want. on this there is no reason to argue.
you're extrapolating, the reason you should not extrapolate is due to singular and/or anomalous events.
if my meaning is hazy -- you are predicting the future based on the past. this can yield poor results due to changes in patterns or circumstance. sort of like how if i take a drink of water from my glass every 2 minutes you might say "in 2 minutes he will drink" after i take a drink.
this doesn't account for the fact that i may no longer be thirsty or my glass may empty at some point. that is why you don't extrapolate.
[mod edit]
This, it's purely a bigger dick competiton when DPS meters get involved.
[mod edit] Thinking that a dps parser would help you with GW2 combat just shows you don't understand GW2 combat. [mod edit]
[mod edit]
I completely agree. As a recovering dps-user who used to compare dicks all the time in WOW (my gnome mage did kick some ass!) I can say whole heartedly that I do not want in any shape or form DPS meters in GW2.
It is a game about damage avoidance and control then just straight up damage.
i'm gonna say something from a GM / Raid leader point of view having been both in WoW, through WoTLK and Cata uptill dragonsoul when i quit, also in SWToR for a brief period - those 2 will do, there has been mixed games from EQ1 - recently launched TSW but no point bringing everything into the equation WoW is most relevant as recount was a complete combat parser utility instead of just a dps meter.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
If a game is about skill rotations, a dps meter actually has a (although marginally) practical use. But in GW2 combat style it just doesn't make sense to have it. The OP will be facerolled time after time untill he starts realising that GW2 doesn't play like a skillrotation MMO.
/endrant
Especially with the low amount of skills in the shooters that you mentioned.
calling it a night... I'll see ya'll tomorrow!
