Love cherry pie and so do many people. Yet over time people still like pie, but the cherry taste got old and they want a new flavor. Berry... To me GW2 is the Berry pie.
Will GW2 have a long life? I hope it does.
Will WoW make a addon to make the game feel new? I sort of doubt it.
The list goes on and on........................
With most MMO's ther eis a 4-6mo windows where its lives or dies.
Time is the ruler to which every MMO is measured against.
I only want WoW to loose mass players so they will go to GW2 to add into all the WvWvWvW fun.
Don't hate BliZzTard and want to see Titan, but since its still just wispers in the shadows I will play GW2 and encourage all my friends to join me.
WoW has seen its share of the sun for sure, but their MMO cookie cutter is showing RED from being so outdated and damaged.
GW2 is not a revolution at all, but thier cookie cutter is newer and differs in many areas then WoWs.
From Dec2012 to Feb2013 we will see how the events are unfolding for sure.

There's a hole in your theory. Expansions. They must be like a shot of flavor....lol. Every game gets old. Even your beloeved Berry Pie will eventually get old and plain. Enter the expansion. They seem to prolong the flavor. This is why people come back to WoW and I'm sure it will be the same with Gw2 expansions.
Don't Worry If blizzard see's GW2 affecting MoP and it's sales, they already have a PR package together about Titan. A website will go up for Titan, interviews about it will go up. They are pure genius at marketing. so in truth better hope i'm wrong. it may be GW2 players who were once blizzard s playesr would run back to them in a heart beat if they made a hybrid sandbox based on starcraft which is what I feel Titan truly will be. Hell if they made a hybrid sandbox based on SC I would go back to them. and I hate them with a passion. truth is...once they unleash Titan all MMO fans will rush and buy it regardless if they hate them.
It's fun to look at some of these old post when gw1 was coming out. That game was also supposed to "own" WoW and be the wow-killer. That didn't seem to work out....

There's kind of a huge difference between fans ranting on a forum, and market analysts predicting the future. One is 'I like GW so much better than WoW!'. The other is 'WoW could be in financial trouble, and here's why'. Very, very different discussions.
That said, WoW will see a spike in subs when MoP comes out. No doubt about that. Blizzard still has an insanely loyal fanbase that will buy just about anything with their name on it. There's also a lot of people that are kinda tired of WoW, but are still curious about the panda expansion, and want to see what it has to offer.
However, there's no way that's going to last. Even if you were to ignore the fact that expansions always spike and then drop shortly after release, MoP is one of the weakest expansions WoW has released in quite some time. Coming at a time when the game has been starved for content for about a year, and that's not a good combination.
MoP will give them a significant bump in profits. For sure. However it's not realistic to think that's going to be sustained. Many people have already tried going back to WoW, and were unable to. The game's just too dated. Even if MoP proves to be an amazing expansion, it's doing nothing to change the gameplay of WoW.
Here is something else for people to chew on and consider where everything is going.
F2P is gaining fast and GW2 is on it as well.
If WoW wants to say with pay to play they might find themselfs turning the lights off in the near future.
Its anyones guess really, but numbers and trends do not lie.
I feel F2P is much like the penny slot machines.
Sounds cheap and fun, but you pay for each line on the slot machine. Adds up real fast and over all can cost more then playing a regular one. F2P is same way.
Guild Wars 2 will hurt it alot, however, I just think and it is my own opinion .. that WoW may cange to free 2 play, though it isn´t really Blizzard-style, if they went down to 5 millions subs.
Now, just imagine .. imagine guys, what will happen with the WoW population when they begin a Lotro-paying-model. This thingy will keep WoW as strong as ever until Blizzard´s new game is out, this is kinda sure.

There were simmilar articles when ToR was comming out, heck there was even an article like that 2 years ago when there were like 5 bigish MMORPG out/comming out to take a bit of the makret share.
GW2 will not take 25% of WoW subs, the game mechanics are way too different, and the fact that GW2 does not require any monthly sub actually makes it less treathning to games likw WoW which do since except for the one time 60US "entry fee" you will not have to cough up any additional fees to play the game.
Also the article was contradicting it self quite a bit on one hand it says that WoW gross margins for sub fees are well over 80%(which is unheard off in any type of buisness outside of the south american drug trade...) and on the other it says that any change of subscribers will have a steam impact on profits. In reality it doesn't work like that the higher your gross margins the better you can deal with fluxuations in your gross income unlike when you have slim gross margins which means any slight decrease in income will result in no profit or even a loss.
With a gross margin of 80% WoW can lose 80% of its subs and still cut even, and make a proffit from in-game item sales, epxansions, and other revenue streams.
GW2 cant do that, GW2 has a 0% gross margin on subs, GW2 technically "loses" money on each new player it gets yeah they pay 60US for the box but after that they dont pay a dime to cover the costs of server hosting, employees, future development or any thing else.
they are not talking about GW2 makeing more money then WoW. they are talking about what if some of the WoW Subs leave WoW do to the fact GW2 does not have WoW fees and what Vivendi may do if WoW starts to loos Subs
WoW gained a lot of subs from the East a few years ago to counter their West losses.
WoW had much more than 12 million unique players - they kept their subs and increased them due to new players and not crazy retention numbers.
More than grab WoW players, GW2 will grab new players, preventing them from stop the normal WoW losses - these new players haven't spent tons of money and time with their WoW chars.

Do you realize how many subs 5 Million is? Do you? It's 5 million subs. What I mean is most games out right now would absolutely KILL for those numbers. Eq2 was down to about 200K I think when they embraced the f2p model. Same goes for Age of conan and LotR - and you think that at around 5 million, which is still vastly more then any other sub game, they will turn to f2p?
Also, you guys appear to be failing to realize these free to play models are not full accounts. They're more like steriod enhanced trials. They lock the slots, lock the content, lock the classes etc. to entice you to pay the sub. They're only really f2p cause you don't need to buy it or sub to log on.

New players interested in serious PvE content will prefer WoW. PvP:ers will perhaps try GW2 instead.

Only ~10% of the PvErs in WoW raid.
Granted, with LFR that will increase.
Still, most people in WoW don't raid.
GW2 has much more resources invested in PvE than PvP - saying it is a PvP game is a myth.

Oh joy, I was wondering when these sorts of posts would jump up. I'll say the same thing rabid fanbois said about WAR, AOC, RIFT, SWTOR, when this subject comes up.
For those who have left WOW behind or don't like it, it's difficult to fully understand the hold it has on people. I was personally adicted to it for a year and half. Why is that? There are a number of reasons, it offers a decent amount of different content, (PVP, PVE, exploring, crafting), is accessible, but the biggest reason it has done well is because it offered a lot of those things in a time when many of it's rivals were screwing up left right and centre. That means a lot of people have been loyal to it and a lot of people play, which means your more likely to find people you like to play with. Hence why most people stay with the game, it's usually the community over any content that is the lifeblood of a MMO.
Blizzard have been smart here, there releasing MOP a month after GW2. At best GW2 will have four weeks to prove their game offers more then something like WOW does to the expat. It frankly isn't enough, most of those people who were curious will go back for MOP.
Why? Because for all their high concept talk GW2 doesn't offer that much of a different experience then WOW does, or more of a better experience I should say. The quest system is a reverse of what themeparks have been doing for years, there really isn't much joy in running into another area and finding yet another kill lots of these quests, or help farmer John quest. At least WOW generally gives you a context to what your doing. The PVE is essentially the same as WOW's, you have dungeons and 'hard' dungeons, same as WOW. PVP is battleground based, or Arena style. Why would anyone who likes WOW hang around for that? Hang around in fact to form new communites, communties diverse enough to have people you might like to game with.
WOW is an old game now and will slowly fade away, it;s very dated in many ways and the developers can only keep recycling content for so long, but GW2 is not going to make a dent because it's not as different in a better way to attract WOW fans away.

Or actually it gives context but you prefer to ignore it.
And lets ignore the joy of playing with your level 2 friend with your level 20 character, receiving level appropriate loot, not ruining their experience and still be challanged, all this taking 30 seconds to teleport to your friend from the other side of the world.
WoW PvE experience is solo questing, GW PvE experience is playing with a few or hundreds of other players, without wasting time looking for parties.

Do you realize how many sub 3.75 million is? most game would kill for thoese numbers but is WoW has 5 million subs the number 3.75 million a loss on 1.25 milliom may be the end if you take time to read the news post.
that is a loss of 25% if that happens Vivendi may bail out
If we were to see Vivendi selling even 10% of their position on the open market the damage to the stock would be devastating.
what hey are trying to say if that happens it could hurt Blizzard so bad they may never recover from it.

What is the PvE endgame in GW2? As far as I know the PvE content is for leveling and character building. But endgame and competition is PvP.
You must compare how much time people with max level characters will spend PvP:ing compared to PvE:ing... I think when you have a maxed out character it will be all about PvP in GW2. At least if you want to have fun and if you want to do it right. There is no endless carrot on a stick, get gear-reset-get new gear, like WoW. A very different endgame... OK, there is arena/e-sport PvP in WoW. But I think GW2 could be better if you like PvP...
If i were still a WoW player and if i wasnt burned on those mechanics like i am its very likely i would buy GW2 and it would be my companion game for those terrible tuesdays when WoW comes to a screeching halt for 6 hours or so, unless i liked it better and it proved to be the better game and became my main...
Luckily im not a wowhead anymore and will have every day to play and enjoy GW2..
Bottomline is GW2 could over time dominate WoW it has all the potential in the world but wow isnt going anywhere anytime soon..
