i hunted pre-buff's, i made camps with dozens of FRIENDS to heal after we tackled a bantha lair, i bought armor one piece at a time, i GREW and MATURED into a PWN'ING warrior, and i loved every second of it.
This game was FUN, i couldnt wait to get some free time to log in and meet up with my boy'z.
nerf after nerf, they put out new pub's, slowly but surely bleeding the once healthy universe i lived in (lowca). until they finally i cancelled myself, the first time was the jedi revamp, when they changed the system when i was about 8 professions away from jedi. i forgave, and came back about 3 weeks b4 the CU, it wasnt nearly the same but still had a few friends left, and the hope that there was a chance for me to re-join the expirience that was once so fun, made me stick it out until the CU went live.
The cruel sick joke that they called the CU, was enough to make me hate SoE forever, to the point that i DELETED my toons (had a buff bot also). and still have 2 prepaid game cards in the box.
it's a shame to hear any1 defend this game after what they did. alotta people laugh when they hear people say stuff like that, but don't realize how much time and effort was spent to achieve what was wiped away like it was sweat on a forehead.
i wish it was as easy as saying "hey, it was a blast while it lasted". but the way it ended has left a bitterness that just grows when i hear fools sayin how good this game is now.
fanboi's, wash your mouth out child.Oh jeez get over it. Your boy'z? LOL from da Mos Eisley hood? Oh and for the record, it's still a blast.image

And ignoring your personal hatred for the game, your facts on this are based on?  Whether a game is boring is subjective and down to personal tastes.

Your opinion that it's "still a blast" is just as subjective.

My observation that Lowca is a ghost town and that there's very little of the crafting or entertainment game left isn't subjective, though.  It's a fact.  And that's due directly to changes they've made in the last six months.

The combat game may have improved.  I'm not a combat player, so I just don't know, and I'm not qualified to judge.  That the crafting and entertainment game has deteriorated seriously over the last year, and that the CU has largely finished it off, at least on Lowca, is largely true, based on my first hand observation.

Not sure if that's aimed at me, but I've never said it was a blast.  I am, like others currently burned out.  That doesn't mean the game is boring though, it just means at this stage most of what I'm interested in I've already done and grown tired of it.  Controversy aside, I'm actually looking forward to the new expantion as it will add something new and I know my game time will increase due to it.  I also know that if content doesn't keep rolling in I'll burn out again.

I'm not on Lowca, so your comments can only be taken on face value.  Much of what you said was not applicable to my server, however.  The truth is, we both probably have correct prospectives just the enviroments are different.  If anything on my server (Bria), we are seeing less of a monopoly amongst crafters.

You people think I hate this game. I really don't. I Hate the devs.. I hate $OE.. I just pity the game for what it has become.

I used to love it. Couldn't get enough of it. Now playing it makes me feel like a necrophiliac.

I keep trying to give this game another chance, hoping the devs got their heads out of their asses and fixed it, or added quality content, or fixed bugs.

I'm even betaing Mustifar... and I am hoping this is a step in the right direction. So far I'm (censored by the NDA).

My account cancels November 4th, and I'm not renewing.

I will never understand, how anyone can defend this game after what they did.  they pissed all over us and tried to tell us it was just raining, and sadly, some listened.

From late in beta, the over educated philosophies of the dev management started being heard by the community, and people began wondering just what these guys were thinking.

A comment like "Players will seek to make their own content" started becoming more common, and those that worship at the altar of SOE blindly went along with it. You find even today on this forum those that blindly follow this as if it's a religion, forgetting that there is no game provided.

Players will seek their own content, yes, but I started to get the impression that the Lead Developers were using this statement as a justification for not creating a real game. It's almost as if they were herding the community into playing the product their way again, only this time there was nothing to play. Later when it became obvious to most of us the situation, those that sought to build...Player Bounty Guilds and other player-generated content were those heralded by SOE as being the true heros among us.

The fact is, SOE's management even in beta was fast becoming very lazy in their thinking. They failed to conceive of a real game here, they simply provided the bandwidth and the graphics, and told people to make their own game. Even today this is still being maintained by Koster in some of his statements.

Now, though, you hear things like "Art versus Content" as if you can't have both. And those of us who realized what was going on and tried to spark their imaginations were declared "wannabe game designers" and discounted as having little effect on the direction they were going, or how the community viewed us.

No matter how they like to portray us, the truth is a monkey with a box of crayons could come up with more interesting ideas than Koster did, and it's a sad state of affairs that his influence was allowed to go on for so long a time. That man is intelligent, and quite capable of seeing the real issues with massive game development, but has no creative bone in his body and takes too often to "putting a human face on the problems" rather than using his intelligence to solve them. In my opinion, he is incapable of problem solving, but superior at pointing out to others what problems exist.

He wrote the book on game design.

It's no wonder why the MMO industry has been going downhill since Everquest. The industry has some serious problems that need realistic solutions, not another over educated under achiever. Very soon, though, I suspect that the antichrist and his lieutenant will be unseated from the throne of power as better and more practical developers provide games to play that are beyond the imaginations of SOE's management. The proof is in the pudding. We will see. I don't think it can be all that hard to out perform these guys though.

SWG is starting to come around though, and it's entirely because it seems to me the devs are no longer listening to the Sun Tsu philosophical nonsense of the Chief Creative Director, and are instead doing what needs to be done...even though their own management often tries to paint the illusion that it can't be done. It's to these teams of developers I take my hat off in respect. They could be the real saviors of SWG.

    Nice synopsys.

But they aren't fixing it. They are desprately flailing and knee jerking to do ANYTHING to keep their subscribers. It stinks of despration.

They figure that Jedi is the way to keep people, so they open the floodgates.

When Jedi proves difficult, they take away the death penalty.

When it is still slightly tough, they take names and levels off the terms.

But do they do ANYTHING to help the classes they orphaned or negleted? No.

If they knew what they were doing, we wouldn't be here.

NC Soft knows what they are doing.

    Blizzard has a clue.

$OE could fix this if they'd just do ONE thing that they have never never done... LISTENED TO THE COMMUNITY.

Sometimes desperation is a good thing. It's been 5 years since these guys have experienced it...

Now suddenly the right changes are coming. Yes that's my opinion dammit.

The game didn't need quick fixes, not once. It needed complete reworks and it's been 2 years since we told them so. It's now that they are doing it, 5 years since it started production. This is blatant and complete mismanagement, there is no way to hide it or talk their way out of it.

Aside from that though, it's on the way finally. Time to tie it all together into an actual game. I'm looking forward to it really.

I gave up on it. (im the OP) the game is just too boring, and I had no desire to become jedi. Maybe they will change it so that no one can become jedi anymore. Anyways, it was not really fun for the two weeks i had it. all i did was grind, get shot at by nym's buttpirates (or w/e) and get denied access to jabba's palace because i didnt kill enough other pirates to please him. (whatever the hell thats about.) two thumbs down from me, because its just too extreme in the "find your own fun".

** Erillion sneaks in and listens in to the thread **

(back from "Space Time", in the Red Bull Hangar in Salzburg, celebrating 30 years of European Space Agency. 10000 visitors ... and one fourth of them got the tour from me in the last 5 days. Its a good thing that you dont need to speak in an online forum ... all that would come out of it is a croak :-)

/mumble   I am away for a few days and already polls start about me :-)

    Have fun
