At least COH has a more complex combat system than this new diablo look alike system they are implementing...

Sounds to me like they're taking a game that was very complex (therefore, intriguing) and dumbing it down so it's not so much. Kind of like WOW and GW and all the other games that you figure out withing the first week of playing.

I'm no longer a sub, but when I did play SWG, I thought it was a great game...its sad to see it go down the crapper. ::::05::

Also, CoH has many more options than just 9 professions to choose from...  Last time I checked, CoH has hundreds of play combinations available with  CoV now...  Also, have you ever seen the character creation for CoH?  Lack of diversity?  I think not, CoH has bar-none the best customization options, and has set the bar higher than any other MMO...  CoH > SWG by a long shot...

The lack of diversity statement does not apply to character generation in CoH, and I never said it did. Just as I assumed the poster I originally quoted wasn't referring to SWG's character generation when he used the 'lack of diversity' statement.

And I have played CoH. Why I say CoH has no diversity is in the horrid mission system. Completing the same type missions over and over again in the same building layouts; that and pretty much the only thing to do in the game is fight. This lack of diversity is the big reason why I couldn't even get through my free trial month before quitting. I lasted about 3 weeks.

Points noted, this is something they have added a lot to though...  For instance, a lot of missions are outdoor missions that you can farm for hours and hours on end...  Also, some missions now give you applicable rewards rather than a stupid badge...  One mission gave me a summonable zombie, 5 uses too...  This little zombie did some very impressive melee damage, and I for one am doing all the missions I can now with these types of rewards...  I am not trying to sell you back on CoH, but it did get a very much needed 'shot in the arm' with new mission types and new rewards...

Back on track though, I remember the SWG missions to be worse actually...  I did one mission that required me to take down a camp of bandits, and the mission indicated that these bandits had stolen some valuable items from Imperials...  I go through the motions, take out the mission and get 3 units of crap quality copper and a dagger that not even a novice would use...

I aint leaving. Like I said I am trying to keep an open mind.
But something keeps eating at me. Why? Why did they do it like this? Two possibilities come to mind.
    1) They are so out of touch with the community that they are blind to their very existence. And if that is true then what can we expect next time? How much lower will be they be willing to go next time?
    2) They knew exactly what would happen and knew how it would upset the community. If this is true then it makes me ask why risk it? there would have to be some alterior motive. Like they knew it would cause this much trouble and they wanted it too. I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory. Even to me. But I have seen companies and corporations do this. Never in a MMO. But others have purposely trashed a project to get insurance or whatever. And I am sure they have insurance for just such an eventuality.
But I can say this for certain. After all the crap they stirred up, this sucker better be perfect. If this thing bombs it will be their own fault. Cant blame anyone but themselves and they loose alot across all games. SOE and Lucasarts will both take damage if this bombs. With the additude of the community and the way things are going, I will not be surprised if it does bomb.

That, and there's NO WAY they can think that putting us through the complete mess the launch of the CU was, then scrapping the whole freaking game in 6 months could be ANYTHING but a plan to port it to a box.

If they had the plan for this in the hopper "before the CU" like they claim.. they wouldn't have put all the time and development in the CU, or the CH upgrade, SL upgrade, BH missions, ALL that stuff. They would have saved SO MUCH time and money saying "We're pushing the CU to November, but here's the wook expansion. and the mustifar expansion.. and the CU comes in November. Here's some info on our plans... come test... yadda yadda.

ANY money put into the development of SWG between February and now OUTSIDE of the new system would have been wasted money.. a LOT of it. Corporations hate to waste money.. there HAS to be a motive.

So either they are lying on the development time, or there is an alterior motive.

    ^^^ Agree

I suspect we'll see SWG as an offering for the PS3 very soon. This new format isn't much different from KOTOR really....

And if it's available on a console they widen their customer base drastically.

From a purely MARKETTING standpoint this isn't a bad move. From a PR standpoint, on the other hand, it's a nightmare. Guess they figured their rep is already so bad with the MMORPG community that the REP hit they'd take wouldn't be bad enough to matter.

They should have just released a new game and called it SWG2 instead of doing this to their players. I'm going to keep an open mind but the truth is:
This change was neither wanted nor needed. This change, while interesting, was morally reprehensible, especially on the heels of conning hundreds of thousands of people into paying for an expansion.

It explains alot, thats for certain. And it also makes me want to take back Battlefront II and never endorse or buy another Lucas product.

Ofcourse, SOE decides what to do with Lucas's products. That makes alot of sense.

Yeh they lost me.  Not much whining this time.  No one cares, so why bother?  Won't do any good.  Give it a try?  No, no thank you.  They turned the game into a console-ready MMOFPS with 9 classes (including jedi) -- I've got no interest in that.  Even WOW is better than that.  If I'm doomed to play a bland, tired, boring POS like all the rest of them, I'll buy mine from a company that has a good track record.

Had fun being retarded in the tauran noob village with my husband and his friends.  Nothing like dancing cows.

Those staying behind to witness the miracle of SOE transforming a PC MMORPG into a console MMOFPS and shouting "awesome good job!" deserve everything they get.  Looks like most of SOE's devs been playing so much WoW that they figured out how to do an area affect sheep on their remaining customer base.

The chorus of BAAAAs may not be deafening, but I heard it loud and clear.

/dedicates Dead Milkmen's "Instant Club Hit" to the SOE fanbois.

Call me crazy, but I don't think this was entirely an LA decision. I can see SOE porting their other MMOs to the PS3 at some point.
