The Everquest purist crowd that wanted EQ with newer graphics
The Eve with a Everquest skin crowd
The we want realistic graphics more than any other features crowd.
Most of these folks built this image if what EQN would be built on personal preference and no actual information so are now angry and bitter that it wasn't what they convinced themselves it was.
the graphics could use improvement but otherwise im star struck

I dont need to know, everything that they've announced sounds amazing. IMO!
I liked most of what was shown but have my concerns but....If you don't want to know other people's opinion...don't read them or come to public forums?
I was just wondering why people are complaining about a product that was just announced? i didn't ask what they're complaining about.
Because people are allowed to form positive and negative opinions on what is shown.I don't agree with most of them personally but they are free to express their opinions.
Then again I don't agree with being too positive either,I liked the core concepts as described....but I liked the descriptions of GW2 core concepts too...I just didn't like the final execution of them over time.
True, if everyone loved something then it would be perfect (and nothing's perfect) but i dont understand all the hate towards a game that was annouced 10 hours ago.
Because SOE spent all of this time and money to reveal The Lion King set to a Willy Wonka score. Not very EQesque at all.
"I don't want GW2 built on these great ideas. I want EQ built on these great ideas. "
There is no question SOE has some big ideas. I even think they have a fair chance of realizing those big ideas. But if the game built on top of those big ideas isn't fun to that player then it doesn't matter.
Its still early and things are likely going to change. But if the core game is spamming the same three attacks causing your cartoony avatar to spin and jump all over the screen then the game isn't for me. Further it isn't for most EQ and EQ2 fans. Right now the first impression is that this is GW2 Next rather then EQ Next. Until they show people something that fixes that impression people are going to be rightfully concerned.

Because most likely you have never played EQ since 1999 for years. Otherwise you would understand. But hey, congrats to you on another simple game that will be a ghost town 2 months after release like all the "innovative" games that came out lately.
I certainly don't hate it yet, but if the combat plays like it looked in the presentation I will hate it. There's no careful pulling going on there, or group tactics, just a whole lot of spinning and particle effects.
I won't judge a game based on the graphics, I've said it a lot, but in this case it's pretty hard not to. That's some of the worst cartoon characters I've ever seen. Longevity and SOEmote, and I'm pretty much guaranteeing I won't ever use SOEmote to make my disney princess pout her cartoon lips.

Well they did announce that everyone can play all 40 classes, that will have 4 abilities ,with 2 weapons per class.

What's not to understand. SoE cryptically uses terms MMO gamers would recognize to build an image of what they were going to do and then reveals something different.
I'm not going to debate over the definition of a sandbox because everyone's is different, but at the same time, we can go back through the history of the genre and point to individual MMOs and most will agree on which ones were sandboxes and which were Theme Parks. People wanted games that were more like those sandboxes.
SoE said Biggest Sandbox. What they revealed looks like another EZ-MMOde ARPG Theme Park. It's not what people who were excited to hear Sandbox wanted to see.

Yeah I agree OP,but this now seems like a 21st century social media plague it's not only EQnext it seems every bloody video and post there is constant complaining and bickering right across the internet.
Personally the only beef I have is the lion/tiger race looks like Tony the tiger off the Frosties ad !!

I agree, and i'm sure everyone will get used to the tiger.
Wait so let me get this straight. We've all complained on how all mmo's are the same, and then when a company reveals a new type of mmo, everyone is complaining over it ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Talk about society, we truly are never pleased. They're even letting us create parts of the GAME. U people are NUTS. I'm DAMN SURE EXCITED.
Like you didnt know this. Everybody wants every game to be exactly what *THEY* want. Thus every game someone will complain about something even though they most likely wont play the game since it has something in it they dont like.
The funniest part is developers have been falling prey to this idiocy trying to create a game that caters to everyone. Makes absolutely no sense.
I applaud SOE for breaking the mold looking forward to *playing* the game to see if I like it.
I'm also going to count how many threads compare EQN to WOW/Wildstar/GW2.

As an EQ fan, i trust SOE. If they were able too make the first and second a success, they'll make the third another hit.
"I don't want GW2 built on these great ideas. I want EQ built on these great ideas. "

What does that have to do with anything that I said.
The bottom line is if they demoed the game without the destructible terrain, dynamic AI, etc we would have all thought we were watching Wild Star or GW2 and most EQ fans wouldn't have made it past the first video.
This game didn't look like an EQ game. It didn't look like it played like an EQ game. I don't care how shiny some of the other features are. That is a critical failure to a game called EQ Next.
But as I said, there is lots of time to change things and there is still lots more to see. So maybe impressions change down the road (though in my long history of following MMOs rarely does one deviate that much from the first impression - at least in a good way).
Stop replying to every thread telling people they should be happy. You asked why people are complaining and they answered you. People jumping to conclusions that they don't like the game is no more wrong then you jumping to conclusions that the game rocks.
Personally I am taking a wait and see approach. But I can honesty say I am less hyped about the game today then I was yesterday. I can also tell you my EQ friends are in the same boat. I think more will join us once the sheen of the new features rubs off. I will save you a spot.
SOE has some damage control to do if they want to get back the EQ fans.

Guess we'll find out. Statistically, it's a winning bet.
Just do me a favor, don't go into hiding like all the hundreds of big mouth SWTOR fan boys did.
And using your logic, how can you form a positive opinion about a game that just released information 10 hours ago?
We complained there weren't any hardcore games with a community.
What we got was something that looks like WoW, is confirmed to be for casuals, and plays like all the latest action MMO.
It might improve or turn out better, but I can't take an MMO serious that looks like a disney adventure.
Engine is top notch. SKLug and that Nvidia guys. A+ job
Art director person. Get a new job. Something that doesn't involve copying WoW.
While I don't think it looks anything like WoW, since it has a much higher polygon count the rest of your argument is utter hyperbole. What makes this game "confirmed to be for casuals"?
I watched the entire presentation again and everything screams great gameplay to me with depth and ideals never tried before.
Random Forum Poster: I want an MMO that is different, original and fun.
Me: So you want something like EQN
Them: Nah dude, I want a Holy Trinity, Tab Target combat, Instanced Raiding, and Rigid classes.

"Stop replying to every thread telling people they should be happy"
Those that complain about every MMO that comes out should prolly give up on the genre.. I don't mind the cartoon graphics but doesnt the cartoon graphics make it easy on the video card...to me its not about graphics its about gameplay..if i can have fun then im fine with the game and so far the game seems good

Easy because it features the same pillars of MMO game play I have been wanting for years now.
depth of exploration
truly dynamic world
consequences for your actions
innovative class system
the ability to build and destroy as I see fit
interactive and engaging NPC behavioral, not some script
a real living, breathing virtual world

What is it with this "cartoony = longevity" argument.
WoW looks like it was made in the 70s.
it looks better then EQ2 which was launched the same year.
lol this is so biased you intentianaly picked the worst pic you could find of WoW, a guy half naked with a blue background.
This is a little more fair
