wow... uhh anyway... hows about having the ranking system go along with medievil ranks i guess you could say. like squire, knight, king, emperor, etc. cuz it goes along with the whole rpg thing....

Contrary to what most people think....RPG does not translate to Fantasy RPG - I think fantasy RPG games were probably first, but I remember seeing sci-fi table top RPG games at least 15 years ago in stores...and by the large number of sci-fi MMORPG gamers at this site (AO, E&B, Eve Online, FoMK, Neocron, etc) I think it would poorly represent our members to make it fantasy based...sorry

well admin i must suggest that is not good to have only 1 person that is able to change the rank, you must let every person that reaches a certain rank to get a custom user rank, if you see that the rank title is against the rules then you can take it away from him, and maybe ban him, but still as you said the #1 can change easily so having only the #1 changing the custom title will be hard since it can chnge from day to day

Actually...there could be many people who would get #1 - each could define their own rank for that position. There would also be a site-wide definiton for that rank so if they don't specify something they would get the default. Again, I have not decided to allow this yet...first I just want to get 5+ good ranks picked.

If you're looking for an impartial ranking/labelling system, Sensei's looks like the best thus far. I tried to come up with my own, but then found his list nearly mirrored my own. His labels aren't that flashey, but they can generally relate to any game on here.

i think something like this would be kool, like if some1 helps ppl with alot of stuff theyd get there own name, or if they are funny, bad, or SPAM ALOT.

Also your gonna have to fix if its gonna be based on number of posts or you will get alot of the nonsense post that people like to do just to gain titles and the number of posts for example you will get the ones that will reply with just "Lol' and those kinda posts can get annoying.Me i dont really post all that much unless i actually got something to say. Oh go look at www.ssboards.com they have a pretty good ranking sytem well its kinda explicit ranking system but just give it a look gives ya the idea in the help faq on the page somewhere.
No, as I made very clear - the rating will in no way at all be based on the number of posts a user makes...that is exactly what I am trying to get away from. We will be using much more creative methods to determine what peoples contribution is to the site.

I don't like the idea of the person at number one making up their own title. This could get very confusing. There should be a set title so that everyone knows that that person is ranked at the top.
That is one of the reasons I am not sure we will do it. Maybe there can be a comprimise though. Perhaps we can allow them to make some sort of "sub-title" once they reach that rank or something.

Some of you might be wondering how you will fare under the new ranking system. Here is the first 100 people from the top. A "100" is a perfect score, 1 is the lowest. There are 5000+ users with substantial activity in the last 30 days, but this is just a sample of the top 100:
NOTE: We have NOT applied negative factors in yet. This will include deleted posts and deleted game reviews! At this point, we are thinking each negative item will cost the user 5 points.
Again, the beauty of this system is that nothing lasts forever...anything you might have done 30+ days ago is not considered in your rank. So anyone has a chance to improve without being "pulled down" by their past actions.

Ok, I see some members have the same number when being ranked, so I assume that every member is ranked individually and not in contest with other members (which I'm highly greatfull for). So my question is this.... in theory- if this was a perfect world (which it t'aint) all 5000+ members could possible be at 100-?

I'm back tracking a little here guys. I was reading a post about Sci-Fi / Fantasy Ranks and how some were more for the fantasy and others for the sci-fi, why not create a system where the people are allowed to choose a default in their user settings; that way it'll be kinda fresh to see on the boards. Instead of the same ranks all the time you could see two different ones.

2. Faithful (those that become players, be they hard core or casual, they are the faithful)
3. homoerectus (they can stand on two feet and walk with the best of em =P this ones stupid)
