I don't remember at any point reading anything that said "Our new vision for the game is ZERGing FATES until you get to cap and then RAID for tokens to get the 1 set of gear for your class, so that every character looks and plays exactly alike" -- anyone have a link for me where they warned us of this?
It seems this needs to be repeated in every thread:
People that play these games take a feature that by itself is not very important or meaningful in the level design (FATEs), notice that they can get a certain % of better exp by spamming said feature instead of playing the game as is designed, and thus do nothing but redo the content until they hit the cap. This activity is completely mundane and utterly boring, gives no enjoyment to the player and essentially makes them skip the rest of the game in the process. All this so that they don't have to play the game more than the people who do not do this.
I've been playing the game as was designed and enjoying myself immensely. You on the other hand seem to be trying your hardest to not have to play the game and making it a borefest in the process. I guess there is some grand big picture here that I'm not seeing but so far I see people not having fun by doing something not actually intended to get to a point that doesn't really matter as fast as possible.
I don't think any dev can prepare himself to know to warn people of something so dumb and moronic.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

LMAO.
I see I'm not the only one that has noticed this...
Apparently you have to do FATE's because it's the most efficient way to reach level-cap. Luckily I'm not interested in efficiency or getting to level-cap quickly, so I'm really enjoying playing the game. In fact, whenever I see a FATE, I run the other way. They're noisy, boring clusterfucks anyways...

1) I agree with this, I also do the same thing.
2) This is what annoys me about the community of this genre as a whole outside of 'sandbox'-y games.
3) This game is simply not (yet?) designed with players like myself in-mind who want more to do. Who aren't interested in end-game raid/boss grinding ad noz.
... Where anyone got the idea that I zerg'd FATEs is really making me scratch my head. I am not one of those players. I observe them. I see how it effects the game. I personally never even reached cap because I got bored of playing solo. Since I personally did not choose to FATE zerg, I was always lower-level to my FC mates and IRL friends, thus was forced to be a 'lowbie' solo player waiting for duty finder pops. Nothing else much to do really.. large level gaps between the story quest lvls. Crafting is fun, but very much not a beneficial thing to do in the long run. No alternate routes of progression that don't feel similarly if not more linear and lifeless (however, imo quest log is enjoyable, but doesn't really last too long before you end up waiting to level up to complete it too.)
It's not wholly the game's fault imo. It's a new MMO for the new crowd, and I just thought it would 'include' stuff for the old timers like myself.
Immediate feeling of that empty, heartless, non-contributal community that is more interested in being "Server 1st" with "best in slot" before anyone else than spending the time and effort to form some bonds that have deeper pull than a stat somewhere. ( I've seen this community grow and take over almost all things multi-player, and I tend to not stay around and play the games designed for, or filled with these types of players.)
That being said - As this was my OP I felt I should try and clarify my own opinion as thorough as possible, even though it is now a game I do not play anymore. I plan to hopefully check out the game later at a time when more has been changed/added. Until then, I hope everyone who continues playing enjoys themselves
I hate to say it, but I've decided to not subscribe to FFXIV ARR after the free month is up.
I'm not one of the content locusts that have already capped a class in the first week of launch. I'm still in my 30's on my conj. Main because I tried to approach the game with the oldschool mentality of "wow, let's explore this vast new world and see what adventures and new friends we experience on the way" just as I did with FFXI.
It had me fooled for the first couple days of introduction and learning curve.
It's really just another 'grind up to cap asap and do 'epic battlez for uber lewt' game. There's nothing else to do but kill stuff. Lady bugs and Wasps. over and over and over at varying levels. FATEs as it turns out are the main focus in terms of leveling up. So, in practice, you RAID/ZERG to level up so you can RAID/ZERG the primal battles over and over.
That's not what I wanted. I wanted all the other features that make an MMO and MMORPG. Housing, Role playing, Pubs, inns, aesthetic items, fluff, trinkets, collectibles, easter eggs, hard to find/reach places in the world, exploration just for the sake of exploration.. not to get achievements or search for mobs on a hunting log. (which, i must say is at least more fun than FATES imo)
and let's not forget CLASS CUSTOMIZATION. This does not exist in FFXIV even in comparison to FFXI, which is pretty sad when comparing to other RPG's.
The armory system is cool but leaves much to be wanted in the likes of being 'unique'
And now they are adding Gear Scores to Final Fantasy XIV.... smh. I'm over it, then. Maybe I'll come see if there's more to do than just RAID stuff after the 2.1 patch or whatever.
Such a shame though. I was way too optimistic.
PS: I mostly made this thread to see if anyone else felt the same. (for those of you who wanna respond with "cool bye" and "can I have your stuff?" lol)
Anyone else disappointed in the WoW-ish approach to things? "end game" "new raid content" "gear score" "hard mode" "best in slot" .. "progression guild/FC" .... all this been-there-done-that shit but no talk of Community content, social tools, housing, crafting recipes for things OTHER than more crafting mats and gear to battle in i.e. tables, chairs, lamps, fountains, etc...
Anyone else feel like they were tricked into playing another Raiding-hack-n-slash, gogogo, fasterfasterfaster action game instead of an MMORPG?
Can I haz yur stuffs???

I have to say for several years I was and sort of still am like OP, thinking these games are mainly combat oriented games.
But the most important factor I and many other have missed or are still missing is to take a look at your own playstyle.
Sure if you let the game hold your hand and you excecute a limited playstyle then sure games become boring, but if you actually try out all the other things these games offer you will find there is more depth to them then some seem willing to see or accept even.
Anyway there is nothing wrong with not liking a game but maybe some day people might look at there own playstyle and change some of it.
