Yes, these are the right forums, exploration in MMOs is quite popular, and what makes the games more unique than single player games. SWTOR is meant to be a MMO, not a single player game with multiplayer. Having said, most single player games with multiplayer lately have more exploration in them, like GTA
Star Wars Battlefront will be the ultimate online Star Wars experience when it comes
What makes you think that Star Wars Battlefront will be anything more than Battlefield with Star Wars skin?

Sorry, but as someone who put a lot of hours in to the Xwing games, this really doesn't look 'anything' like Xwing v tie fighter. This reminds me far more of the space combat in Star Wars Battlefront II. Fun side game, but certainly dumbed down space combat from the xwing series.
Course this is factually correct since we haven't seen the SWTOR Space expansion in its entirety yet. /Facepalm
'Factually' I was commenting on the gameplay appearance of the video which doesn't look anything like xwing v tie fighter. You can take your fanboy passive aggressive emote and shove it.
Because some people need a refresher obviously....
Good gravy people. Don't bother getting into semantic argument's with people online. Talk about a waste of time. I hurt my brain reading through all of them, hoping that they would drop it and get back on topic. Such is life.

Originally posted by Kokochu I like this game a lot but Bioware just seem to screw one pooch after another these days. This expansion would be incredible if it as PvE space exploration landing on new planets etc or even some kind of hybrid with some PvP space combat thrown in. Focusing the entire thing on PvP though will alienate most of their playerbase since most of the people who care about PvP left long ago. It might bring some back, but they will probably lose far more than they bring in with this news. Nothing is more disheartening for a PvE community than hearing all their money has been going to PvP development.
I guess that makes spacecombat in SWTOR slightly less lame then.
EDIT : So how will this work then? Do other players have to bring their own arcademachine onboard of your ship to hook so you can play LAN 90s spaceshooter in your ship?

Bam! Right here. I believe this is why SWTOR gets so much negative attention. Many people wanted the opposite of what they got. This space expansion is a microcosm of the game itself. Much of the "hate" is just sheer disappointment.
These space battlegrounds do look interesting though and like many of the other posters said, I give them credit for changing it up a bit - it is a step in the right direction. It looks like this is not tied to our class ships at all. Perhaps this will lead to class ship customization and more options on that front.
Its a step in the right direction regardless of what the haters think. Adding new game systems to existing mmos is always a good thing. So is this an official expansion? What else are they adding?
The fact is that they have not fix the space flight into the game it self and they never going fix that either. it allways going to be a minigame and that is a big fail.

No need to get upset about it.
Don't know why people are upset about a free expansion though.
This is pretty much what he is doing. When called out on his arguments with valid points, he is just making a quick exit while avoiding the question.
Seriously though, Bioware has given tons of contents through the patches so who cares if they name one of them a patch or an expansion since it's free. When you look at the game at launch and what it is now, there is no way you can say that the content is lacking and that we need a proper "expansion". They have added expansion worth of contents gradually instead of everything together and i like it that way. People can gradually do the stuff and there is always new stuff coming up to do.
This new addition is objectively impressive, but the underlying ground game is fatally flawed.
The content that has been added has come out at a decent pace, but the problem is that it isn't anything that breaks the paradigm of the game, so it's not enough.
The 75% die off after release came because the game was too anemic, and it basically tried to be WoW with less to do. The cartel upgrades and live events do not change the basic game.
Those of you who enjoy the game seems to have no concept as to why the other 1.7 million left the game, and why those who spent a lot of money on a disappointing title aren't willing to be burned by it again. When they change the basic nature of the game away from a arena PvP/linear quest grinder with no exploration or non-combat activities that will be momentous. Otherwise it's just a flaccid 2004 design.
Why people who dont play or never played the game keep talking about how bad it is or why the new space combat will fail?. The truth is, almost 2 years after swtor launch, and the game is doing great and getting better with every new content update.

First you have your numbers confused. They had 1.7 million accounts when they went free to play. No exploration? Ah you probably don't know what lore items, or datacron, or achievements for exploring an entire world are. The companions, the story lines, the combat is not 2004. Feel free to either research a game you try to bash or better yet actually play the game.

I played since Beta, I have the whole story in mind. The last time I logged in was 5 days ago on Harbinger. I keep going back and looking in hopes that the game will somehow surprise me.
That others have an opinion different from yours is not an attack on you.
Originally posted by Ozmodan Still does not fix the problem with the space combat. It needs to be completely redesigned. I don't know anyone that plays this game that does space missions. Sure there are some, but they are a tiny minority. Allowing pvp with these ships is just a joke. Trying to justify all the customization options. You would expect this design in a 90's game, not something trying to be contemporary.
This IS a complete redesign. It never ceases to amuse me how people comment on articles that they havent even read x)
I beg to differ. They just took their bad design and took it off the rails. Big deal. SWG had a better design 10 years ago which is a lifetime in this industry. Stop trying to make this something it is not. EA is not going to commit the money to fix this, hence you just get mediocre changes that impress few.
This will not bring people back to the game.
Pretty much this. I believe some people aren't true Star Wars fans or never played SWG because otherwise there is no way you could look at SWTOR and say it was a great game. Boring linear progression, space that doesn't do the Star Wars IP justice, and an obvious lean towards cinematics vs. good gameplay features.
Some people will remain in denial forever though. They'll even go as far as saying SWTOR is one of the best MMORPGs out there (hilarious right?).
So, i clearly listed out how this is nowhere close to Space PvE without the rails and you still go and agree with the guy who Falsely and Ignorantly claimed otherwise. Just shows how you wanna deny the truth so that you can continue hating a game which you don't play but which so many others seem to enjoy while going forward to insult those people who are having fun. You need to sit down and look at your life.
Nope. I was commenting his statement "SWG had a better design 10 years ago..." which to me is true. 12vs12 PvP isn't impressive at all. Not to mention the only content they are offering is PvP... Star Wars is a universe where a large part of the story and events take place in space. So a MMO like SWTOR which is based on the Star Wars IP is a huge slap in the face to a lot of fans of the Star Wars franchise.
Also telling people you don't even know to "Sit down and look at their life" makes you sound... Well not too bright.
You can't rationalize peoples hate of this game. It doesn't matter what SWTOR does, haters are going to hate on it. Trying to explain why everything they do isn't bad in some way is just a waste of time.
This game should of had this in at launch, adding it now is long over due but good for the game all the same. Better late than never.
people has been asking for good open world pvp and not making the game pure arena grind. i dont know bout u but me and my guild has been grinding gear since release from the same arena over and over. on top of that the tier of gear upgrades so fast that u have to grind newer ones over again. i have no problem if gear was to be grinded but its no fun when u do the same arena over and over since launch and in the end there is no other way to grind pvp gear. shit i rather have them bring back illlum open world pvp instead of grinding for another gear in arena. atleast that was challenging. but here they release another type of wz that has no purpose. people has already asked GIVE US A GOOD OPEN WORLD PVP DAM BW

key word you don't do alot of pvp doing arenas over and over it bs. its the same thing over and over just diff objective. for you it may not be a bother since you a carebear, but as for pvpers such as myself and many others we want a reason to fight open world pvp. also did you bother to read my whole post. i clearly stated OPEN WORLD PVP IS WHAT THE AUDIENCE BEEN ASKING FOR NOT ARENA BS. we want another way of getting our gears we want to fight the imps not just to role play. we want to have objectives in open world pvp. illum had objectives illum was fun even when reps was outnumbered. so please before you post bout someone not playing the game for a while please read the full post. your response just made u sound like a fanboy protecting his video game

Settle down little buddy I didn't say anything about open world cause what you said was correct. You said running the same arenas over and over since launch which is incorrect. Not how that makes me a fanboi by calling out an inaccuracies in your post. They have added plenty of new PvP content. Open world PvP has been discussed many many times it will probably never happen the way you want it too.
Hopefully people have no delusions about this expansion.
It will be 12v12 space warzones. Don't think you can hop in your ship and fly around space and explore.
Cool? yes. The amazingly awesome thing you are hoping it to be? mmm. no.
Your class will still have it's pre-defined PVE starship that you use to fly around to various planets. The customizable ship they show in the video will only be a tab in your character screen. Also expect a ton of cartel market ships

u obviously havent played through the whole arena much then have u. tell me what is the goal for each arena arent they all similar. shit even ranked wz is similar. so my point exactly they are they same arena since launch just diff settings. i guess to a none pvper u wouldnt notice anything im speaking of but for someone who has grinded pvp gear since old school bm all the way to conqs its the same old arena protect flag or my fave football. its fun at times but doing it over and over and over and over and i forgot to say and over again is not fun at all. my point for my post is i will bet u if they added an open world pvp that had purpose to it i will bet u that people who left swtor will come back and people would enjoy it more, and 3 people would subscribe more. look at aion, aion pve sucks questing is old school but the open world pvp is fun as hell. the game is more alive then it was before due to how they changed open world pvp. they set up camps to each maps so there is a new form of rifting. they made it possible to where u can get diff pvp gears in a diff way. they have arenas for c2 pvp set and they have abyss gear which is the end game pvp gear that u get by killing lots of enemy players and doing sieges. they also implemented a camp weekly where u would have to take over camps to finish your weekly. dude the pvp is fun as fuck i just wish swtor would learn so we can move on about open world pvp issue and enjoy the game as its meant to be. swtor still has lots of potential and its still a young game. but at this point bw seems to not learn at all what they really need to do. this space combat isnt going to do much because there is no real purpose to it. u know why i say so? because 99% of the time everyone is on their toon not their ships

Pets are not the same as companions not even close. Can your pets gear in wow or any other game from '04 be up graded as you level. Do your choices you make affect your pet? As you increase your relationship with your pet does he/she start to open up with their past? No they are not the same. Does every class in wow have their own story that your choices affect? Nope didn't think so. How is all the exploration items not exploration?
With that said consider this: Everyone who begins by saying that SWG was better than SWTOR is comparing apples to hand grenades they do not even have the same design goals, setting or just about anything else. Sure they are both in the Star Wars IP and they are both MMO's that is about all they have in common.
When Bioware set out to make this game they were quite clear this would not be SWG 2.0 so I wish SWG fans would shut up. The game we loved died lon ago at the hands of SOE sitting around waiting to hate or make fun of SWTOR is not helpful. If you do not like the game then stop following it, I promise it will never ever be what you want it to be.
No game will ever be the first one you played or the first one you loved. No one can get that first love feeling back, its gone. You are older, times have changed, things have moved on. Stop being bitter old fools like you run into in town that tell you how when they were young all their politicians were honest. I was there, SWG had many flaws and problems to whcih we argued and complained about daily.
SWG was designed as a Sandbox that they added MMO elements to after the game went through many phases of changes. SWTOR was designed as a modern theme park based MMO with mainstream trappings.
I think Bioware could move a little faster on content, I think they could put some more emphasis on other things to do besides quest, pvp and raid. I do not hate the game, I recognize the game for what it is. On days when I miss the sound of activating a lightsaber, or firing a blaster I start the game up patch and cruise around a bit.
For the folks that SWTOR is your first Star Wars MMO enjoy it, relish it, and remember these are golden years that will never come again. Time is a predator that comes for us all and nothing lasts forever unless your name is Macleod. For the tired, worn out mmo veterans like me lets leave these folks alone and keep the bitterness out of their lives. The last thing they need to hear is another story about how we played SWG in the snow, up hill both ways, or how we had the greatest star wars experience ever. (Even though it was set in the old series, which never moved along in its story progression much, was filled with bugs that had been there since Alpha and beta, tons of features were never finished or implemented and it went through four combat system changes.)
In closing the next time someone starts raving at you about SWG ask them about speeder bike's and how they could not be put in the datapad when they were added, or how we enjoyed are capital ships in space, or even better how were those huge epic grand ground battles in the battlefields that were working perfectly the whole game. Or if you want to really get their goat ask them how their "iconic" Star Wars experience felt after Smedley got done bending them over his expensive desk.

Looks like a great addition!
If they keep updating the game, I might one day return.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
'Factually' I was commenting on the gameplay appearance of the video which doesn't look anything like xwing v tie fighter. You can take your fanboy passive aggressive emote and shove it.
Because some people obviously need a refresher:

I totally agree.

Maybe instead of being reported for baiting or flaming or derailing the thread, I am leaving it as it is. I believe I am right and made my points. I have nothing further to add to this particular debate, so why would I reply, not trying to be rude or anything just GL everyone with your day kk...
You are entitled to your opinion but someone can also ask 'so you have double standards to bash a video game?'

I played since Beta, I have the whole story in mind. The last time I logged in was 5 days ago on Harbinger. I keep going back and looking in hopes that the game will somehow surprise me.
That others have an opinion different from yours is not an attack on you.

Well not too bright.

people has been asking for good open world pvp and not making the game pure arena grind. i dont know bout u but me and my guild has been grinding gear since release from the same arena over and over. on top of that the tier of gear upgrades so fast that u have to grind newer ones over again. i have no problem if gear was to be grinded but its no fun when u do the same arena over and over since launch and in the end there is no other way to grind pvp gear. shit i rather have them bring back illlum open world pvp instead of grinding for another gear in arena. atleast that was challenging. but here they release another type of wz that has no purpose. people has already asked GIVE US A GOOD OPEN WORLD PVP DAM BW

I've played the game and no, there really isn't much exploration at all. Also the combat is 2004 if comparing it to themeparks like WoW (not that this is a bad thing, I am just correcting you because you seem confused).
Another thing "companions" and "story lines" can't be used as examples of "not being 2004" because they could be from any year... They are pets and storylines... every MMO has them.
You hardcore SWTOR players don't seem to get why a vast majority of gamers quit SWTOR and won't be coming back. Most of us wanted an actual Star Wars MMO. Not a World of Warcraft MMO with a Star Wars skin.

key word you don't do alot of pvp doing arenas over and over it bs. its the same thing over and over just diff objective. for you it may not be a bother since you a carebear, but as for pvpers such as myself and many others we want a reason to fight open world pvp. also did you bother to read my whole post. i clearly stated OPEN WORLD PVP IS WHAT THE AUDIENCE BEEN ASKING FOR NOT ARENA BS. we want another way of getting our gears we want to fight the imps not just to role play. we want to have objectives in open world pvp. illum had objectives illum was fun even when reps was outnumbered. so please before you post bout someone not playing the game for a while please read the full post. your response just made u sound like a fanboy protecting his video game

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
u obviously havent played through the whole arena much then have u. tell me what is the goal for each arena arent they all similar. shit even ranked wz is similar. so my point exactly they are they same arena since launch just diff settings. i guess to a none pvper u wouldnt notice anything im speaking of but for someone who has grinded pvp gear since old school bm all the way to conqs its the same old arena protect flag or my fave football. its fun at times but doing it over and over and over and over and i forgot to say and over again is not fun at all. my point for my post is i will bet u if they added an open world pvp that had purpose to it i will bet u that people who left swtor will come back and people would enjoy it more, and 3 people would subscribe more. look at aion, aion pve sucks questing is old school but the open world pvp is fun as hell. the game is more alive then it was before due to how they changed open world pvp. they set up camps to each maps so there is a new form of rifting. they made it possible to where u can get diff pvp gears in a diff way. they have arenas for c2 pvp set and they have abyss gear which is the end game pvp gear that u get by killing lots of enemy players and doing sieges. they also implemented a camp weekly where u would have to take over camps to finish your weekly. dude the pvp is fun as fuck i just wish swtor would learn so we can move on about open world pvp issue and enjoy the game as its meant to be. swtor still has lots of potential and its still a young game. but at this point bw seems to not learn at all what they really need to do. this space combat isnt going to do much because there is no real purpose to it. u know why i say so? because 99% of the time everyone is on their toon not their ships

I played SWG for years, and I loved it.
