Seriously... I am somewhat surprised about the lack of hype. Yeah I know many say, Hype is bad. I never shared that perspective. On the contrary, a bit unrealistic hype is something I feel necessary for gaming, and it's absence never is a good sign. Yeah, maybe it's just me. But then, neither on this website nor any other nor in the huge mulit-game-guild I am in there ever was much discussion or excitement about either Elder Scrolls Online or Everquest Next.
If I relate it to the BIG, hot debates around SWTOR, this is very lukewarm. Yes there is something to like and something to dislike, but compared to other upcoming MMOs in the past, this feels like a whole lot have become quite neutral and disinterested in these two MMOs. At least it seems to me.
And I looking into myself feel like the same. Some stuff sounds good, some bad, but overall I lack the zeal and interest to follow this en detail as I used to.
So, what's your opinion on this?
having personally been a member of this website for 10 Years now, it's really not much of a surprise to me.
Hype has lost its "hype", a long time ago. Don't get me wrong, the excitement is still there, but the time crunching throughout the day as we get older, and the latest generation in consoles has just released, etc.
I personally couldn't be more excited about EQ:N and look forward to it.

Hm, then the question is, why do we hear nothing new? I mean ESO is not so far away, and EQN has told us VERY little, at least very little substantial.
Weird. Just weird.
Most likely because the devs workign on ESO realized they had a lot to do after recent "bad press" so they aren't really "ready for launch" just yet.
With Everquestnext it seems like they felt something should be released but probably don't have much of a game yet.
It takes time and effort to constantly have a game in people's minds and sometimes companies feel the need to put something out there but they can't sustain it.
which makes sense, People would get very bored if every day for over a year + they talked about some inane thing just to keep it in your head.
Their seeds have been planted and once they have more those seeds will continue to grow.

My guess for the missing hype would be, that ESO and EQN want to make it harder for Blizzard to steal their ideas, like they have stolen nearly everything from the first Everquest game and now steal from GW2 (encounters, playstyle), Rift (Housing) to make their next expansion for World of Warcraft
Blizzard ist like Bill Gates, making millions of dollars with stealing ideas from others. It is just very wise to keep the ideas and future plans very secret .
Every time the devs of these games have said anything we've had all the normal nonsense threads about why it's the greatest thing ever or why it's not fair they're charging for something in a free game threads.
Both of them seem more aware of what over hyping a game too early can do. Maybe they learned something from watching SWTOR doing it over and over.

Hm that makes sense. I realy like Tamriel lore-wise and ES as single player games. But much, like the faction shoehorning and region limits didn't sit well with me.
I always played Bosmer or Dunmer, and with both I felt like "why the heck should I support the Dominion or the E-pact?" I prefer Alliances I chose over racially fixed Alliances especially in Elder Scrolls. Too bad, I feel I know so little about the game, which is odd given they once had End of 2013 as release date.
But a big overhaul... how realistic is that? Hmm.
I am atm just terribly bored of every MMO and need new fodder. So am kinda let down all these MMos are seemingly so far away. Oh my.

EQN hype went cold the moment we were revealed yet another cartoon arts game with fluffy hugable lions and shit ton of instanced irrelevance. The game has nothing to do with EQ, its not Massive and it has bare minimum of RP, so basically its NMG, Next Multiplayer Game and I'd personally add "Generic" somewhere there. Judging by the more recent revelations of core game concentrating on non challenging action combat and what appears to be a lack of any sort of carrying story or greater purpose, I'd add "Arcade" there too.
TESO hype slit its own wrists by greeding with 60 bucks for the box + 15e/month (+ cash shop). Even before that the hype got it by "everyone can be anything" rage that kicked out of the window any specialization or class purpose and "everyone can go everywhere, but not see the opposing faction" that basically hit the realm pride and alt-rolling, or alternatively respect to RP and TES legacy to the nuts. Oh, and postponing the game for 6 months to be able to launch (aka stupify) it to consoles, 8 spells seriously?
I'm still going to play TESO, and atleast try EQN when its F2P, but I'm masochist like that ...
One of the most Epic Arena( it's called Coliseum in Black Desert) PVP vids i've seen.
This has nothing to do with the world PVP and wont effect it.
I'm more excited for this Black Desert, the west wont see it for a while but i have friends who are trying to get me into beta.

MMORPG want to be ashamed that they didn't send anyone.
The Predator kicks ass all the way, freaking lions jumping in as well is freaking epic, western devs need to pull their fingers out.
There hasn't been any new info for either title for quite some time, so theres really nothing new to discuss, aside from whether the EQNL early access is bad or not.
SWTOR and GW2 were marketed in a way to build hype. TESO and EQN really aren't. SWTOR and GW2 went out of their way to do slow reveals on everything even teasing you with what was coming next and stringing it out just to get people hyped up.
These games might still do this but it is pretty early in the development so who knows. I can't speak for TESO but EQN has given an appropriate amount of info for a game that is still in early alpha.
I don't really care about prerelease information. Of course the developers won't explain what the game lacks and how some features might not be fully functional on release. Would a car salesman tell you not to buy a car? There's just no point in blindly following their marketing.
It's good to watch the trailers and read up on features but you need to take that information with a grain of salt. I think many people have been gaming long enough to realize this.
For my money EQN is the only major AAA MMORPG currently being made that has any chance of not being awful. I am not interested in another theme park WoW clone and that seems to be every other major MMORPG being made.
Things like Star Citizen, Trials of the Ascension, Life is Feudal etc have chances to be good mind you, but when we are talking big hype train AAA MMORPG it looks bleak.
I'm anxious to see what both have to offer but playing these games on release is another story. I for one, am tired of being told that "this (game) has unicorns and rainbows!", then finding the gold pot but with horse poo instead.
Originally posted by BruceYee Less hype is better for a game like TESO anyway because they are heading into dangerous waters - MMO Territory.
I don't know. At first I thought it looked lame for an MMO then I realized that it's not an MMO but an Elder Scrolls game with all the territories available AND multiplayer features, which is what fans have been begging for.

Well, I wouldn't say a "big overhaul" but I'm guessing that after they received feedback and knowing what happened to SWToR among other games, I think they realize that certain things need to be in at launch. Like the adventure zones. I also think they realized that they need to make the game feel a bit more "Elder Scrolls" so perhaps more flavoring.
I'm just bummed because I want to play a Dark Elf but the few friends I have who play mmo's are more interested in other factions.

On EQN I'll wait to see some acual gameplay footage.
On Teso I'll wait til the first batch of hungry preorder players starts to write their gameplay experience.
I'm kinda sick and tired of hype, I just forget the games and play the ones I enjoy in the meantime.
