Group challenge oriented game, dungeon through groups of people?
No, very simply put, thank you!
I am an old-school gamer and prefer personal achievements and progress to be based on my own skill and dedication. I will not go through the same WoW- experience that's being reiterated over and over in so many MMOs. They really need to start thinking of new gameplay mechanics other than raiding and group dungeons.
Aren't MMOs based on group play, not on single player experience?

I like to Lone wolf as well, but like a good group if needed never been one for raids but looking at the stretch goals there is more content planned not just dungeons, and I'm sure the backers will have their say can see this being like Star Citizen and lots of feature creep creeping in along it's development path.
Faaaaaaar too early to say anything about this. Need much more real info. That being said yes the title is awful!!! and they really shouldn't have shown such pre-alpha graphics that look like they're 10 years old... that can't help.... gunna show something for-god's-sake gotta show something that's going to immpress people!

I thought that one was pretty odd too. An old school gamer that defines old school by solo play....weird.
Mehh i guess so, its pre alpha though so plenty of time to polish the graphics, that being said, i would play it just as it is as long as it has that EQ/VG flavor of gameplay, and i would love every second of it .
Pretty much this... And, I hid away my doubts and just gave him $45!
Now, Brad, please make a game worthy of the tag MMORPG old style!
Sounds even worse than i imagined, forced downtime, forced grouping,1980's graphics, and a small budget kickstarter design. It is a shame that it will never see the light of day and if it does it will be every bit the unfinished disaster vanguard was, especially with silius and brad running the show. Ive long been a proponent for niche games like this with smaller teams and budgets to fill a market which even though i have zero interest i understand a small few do.

I couldn't even get through the whole video. This game just sounds like a recipe for one epic train wreck. It's going to be a raid fest. The writings all over the wall. Forced grouping? Seriously? I don't know anyone that likes being forced into a group or anyone that likes being forced into a group even less with people that are anti social. Thanks, no thanks. This will be even worse than all the negative elements of EQ1. I will still try it if I get into beta and see for myself, but I'm not holding my breath. I would love to be surprised, but I doubt I will be.

There is nothing wrong with what they showed, it actually made things so much better, camelot unchained is NOTHING till they show something, its just a cool idea at this point. Gameplay is king and the last thing on the list when it comes to making a good game is how pretty it looks .
I am not very hopefully that this game will ever be made, But out of respect for Eeverquest, Vanguard and grouping gameplay I gave them some money.
I love the idea of making a niche game not for the idiot masses but for actual players. Making a game that requires grouping. I support it, I think of it as donation to the genre which needs to change the direction it has taken back to its roots.
Although I will say if I am going to throw away money this a much better investment to throw away than EQ Next.

Group/raid based gameplay is the way to go and horde's of fans have been screaming for a game to do EQ right again. NO one wants to play these crapy solo freindly, group for 5 mins and move on never having any real social interaction games anymore.
There were very few if any "negative" elements to EQ , its fan loved the game to death and still do today, the market is ripe for a true real MMORPG.

EQ1 nor UO are by no means "old school". NWN on AOL launched in 1991, Shadows of Yserbius on The Sierra Network launched a year later in 1992. Both of these predate UO and EQ both bu just a number of years. Not to mention there is also The Realm and Multi Player Battletech that was put out by Kesmai studies (purchased by EA and dismantled), and of course there is also Meridian 59 formerly put out by 3DO. All of these came out before EQ or UO. These are the real old school MMO's whose roots are that of table top role playing games. UO and EQ laid claim to that fact as well but came nowhwere near as close to delivering as the early MMO's that came before them.
I'm not sure what version of EQ you were playing or even what "hordes" of players your imagining that want group gameplay. Most people do not raid in MMO's. It's a statistical fact that even Blizzard was forced to acknowledge which is why raids diminished in size until they became 10 man and why there is now ultimately a raid finder tool. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in time they even dumbed those down to the point of five man instances. At the first Blizzcon the devs for WoW admitted that they couldn't understand why most people didn't raid. They found this out by datamining and said that the numbers were less than 10 percent of their playerbase. They couldn't understand why this was. They were EQ uber guild leaders that could not see past their own perspective of gaming. They saw only what they saw and assumed because they played this way and liked this playstyle that everyone should like it.
Fact is that most people do not like grouping with others when it more often than not turns into personality conflicts. No offense but by your attitude towards me I'd be leery to group with you or anyone that spoke like that. I don't do hard core. I have a life. Most gamers have familes, lives, responsibilities. It's why you see more and more games catering to the casual market. There are small indie developers making facebook games and bargain bin games because they rake in the cash hand over foot on those games because they are casual. WoW while it has an end game has more casuals playing it probably than any other game that still do not ever see the inside of a raid instance.
EQ was chalked full of negativity from the aforementioned grouping issues with personality conflicts, to the sheer greed of loot that lead to KSing, ninja looting, guilds training other guilds in the planes over raid bosses for loot, etc. and I could go on and on. Again, not sure what game you played, but it definitely wasn't EQ. The Solusek Ro server for example was so bad that they had a forum completely devoted to attacking people to the extent that they would try to post each others real life information. All over loot and greed and the desire to "one up" someone else over pixels on a screen. I then watched when City of Heroes came out. These same people that were at each others and savagely attacking each other then suddenly found themselves in the same supergroup/guild and were all the sudden the best of friends. Why? Because the loot equation was gone.
As a former guide I witnessed many atrocities in EQ, all of which I mentioned previously. Even guides received verbal abuse from players. I was shocked when I experienced this first hand considering I was an authority figure working on behalf of SOE. Out of any game that I have ever played EQ had the single most negative experiences when it launched and for quite some time after launch. Do I miss it? No. Will I play another game that will emulate it? Not a chance? Will most people, probably not. Probably a small elite group of people will play which I sounds like is the "hordes" of people that you talk to on a regular basis. Most people do not and will not because they aren't masochists willing to subject themselves to that sort of grief. Most raiders like to say everyone likes raiding. You're not the first uber/elitist that I've met who has proclaimed the masses like it simply because you and your friends do. If you like that sort of thing, great, but statistics and metrics show otherwise.

So you talking video games in general? Do you want to go back to pong?
It is painfully obvious to everyone but you that guy you are replying to meant "old school mmo" to which 99.999+% of the western mmo playing population will agree with.
Some of your other examples is something called conflict. Many players like that. It is something to do. Some people hate it while others consider it healthy competition and healthy competition is sorely lacking in many recent mmos. Sure it could have been more greatly refined but much of that is the foundation for the great memories people have of those older mmos. Real people in the real world have gone to war over relics and shiny bits. Billions today watch sports and hate the other team and that team's fans but we enjoy it!
We can't always have kiddie mmos that seem to be pumping out like mad. Sometimes the adults like to come out to play. The ones who won't cry when they get a boo-boo.
I may do the $45 for me and my wife, if it ever gets made, great...If not, I am not gonna cry about it or go broke. I will have to see if she is interested, but she loved EQ/VG also, so she probably will be.
Be the first thing I have given money to, I may wait till I hear some more information, or the $45 tier gets close to selling out, whichever happens first. I would still like to hear more stuff on their engine and such.
Reading this brings back memories of EQOA on the playstation, where you had to find groups, find a spots to camp and kill things for hours on end while chatting with other people. Best time I ever had playing any mmo.
Would really like to see this go through. Never got to properly play a game like EQ.
Also, what's the deal with calling the guy a junkie? I looked at his history, he had some trouble with Vanguard, but I heard good things about it (design wise).
Seems like the organization of the Kickstarter is a bit weird.

Brad said they are placeholder graphics. They wanted to get a Test bed up quick for testing.

Pros:
The designers have a good concept of what a good MMORPG could be like.
They strave to be the new MMORPG pioneers.
Cons:
The graphics look outdated.
The PvP is too far down on their list though I understand they focus their budget on PvE. Still though p: ("3,800,000USD : New Feature : PVP")
Pretty much this... And, I hid away my doubts and just gave him $45!
Now, Brad, please make a game worthy of the tag MMORPG old style!
"This is not the mmo you are looking for"
Will be keeping an eye on this, still some more info I want to hear, like what engine they are using and such, if it was mentioned, I missed it.

Sorry, but whatever reputation Brad had in the industry is long gone.
I'd buy his game if it were: 1. made, and 2. not a POS.
But give this guy money for nothing at this point? No Way.
