However before you toss any money at archeage you need to understand , Archeage is NOT a AAA title, not even a AA title.
Archeage is a cheap Korean grindfest game that has been over hyped like crazy because they have an insane crafting system.
The game is over a year old and looks it and feels it.
The game is basically Perfect World or C9 or a combo of the two made on a much cheaper budget, and destroyed by horrible update/content patches.
That being said if you like games like perfect world then you will love archeage, but if you love games like GW2, WoW, ESO, and are expecting Archeage to be like those games, well then you will hate Archeage and it is best to save your money.
'Over a year old'?

One of my friends got the founders pack. He played a bit this morning. He said he was completely unable to do any gathering because of the labor point system, after 5 or 6 ore nodes he was cut off. but apparently everyone online talked about how great it was because crafters are valued. they are valued because most of them will quit with this LP garbage. Nothing like being unable to do your favorite activity because of some system put in place to sell cash shop potions.
Your friend is stretching the truth, you get him to let you give it a try.
I think you can get past, not liking Trion, F2P, Founders Packs, LP System, too themeparky, dated Graphics or you might find another to add to you list.
My first character and was mining within a minute after getting into the game very little time had passed from creation to mining and I did not run out of LPs.
The labor point system for everyone in Alpha is like being a Patron they go up fast.
LP is why many crafters going to love this game btw, one guy can't get ahead and flood the market.
No, there's really not an excuse that can be made for buying a game in alpha for 3x the original price, that's already been out for a year overseas. Not to mention, it's already fully funded. They are just stealing your money, and you're cool with it.
Heyy now, EQ has a name that has always proven successful. I haven't paid 20 bucks for founders pack (which is NOT 150), but hell that's for 2 games and even without paying, i've been in beta every week... not like you'd want to go into beta of any minecrafty game.. but hey

I honestly dont mind the $150 price tag, if thats your cup of tea i'm fine with it - its not mine and i'm not forced to pay it.
What i do find disturbing is that twitch streamers are being payed an hourly to stream the game and declare how 'awesome' it is while not informing there fans they have a financial interest in doing so. its a very misleading and underhanded practice and smacks some what of fraud - its made me lose faith in Trion and all but killed my interest in AA - if the game ws good enough they'd surely not have to promote the game using such underhanded tactics.
Now, I'm going to be asked to provide a source link or proof that this is the case and i cant as i work with a few streamers on some I.T. related projects and any proof i could provide would damage my own income - so i'm afraid you'll just have to take this as another 'rumor' posted anonymously on an internet forum.
If this were true, it would be very damning. That having been said, if Trion is doing this, most other companies probably are too.
What i do find disturbing is that twitch streamers are being payed an hourly to stream the game and declare how 'awesome' it is while not informing there fans they have a financial interest in doing so.
I'm on the fence whether or not 150$ is worth it, I know too little about the game to actually make that assessment. I can however claim that 150$ is too much for me personally, mostly because I'm unemployed at the moment.
However, the level of stupidity behind that statement is just hilarious. Are you seriously proclaiming that streamers are being PAYED on an hourly basis to stream their game? That is rediculous. They are and have been given Alpha codes as part of Trion's marketing campaign, yes. They are not being payed directly by Trion, believe me.
Now, the most popular streamers make a ton of money, yes, but that is not coming from Trion. That's coming from either their fans or from Twitch directly as part of their partnership program.
As someone who recently purchased the $150 Founder's Pack, I wanted to show you all the quick processing which took place:
- spent the last week wondering what to play...........
- been waiting for an excuse to play Archeage for over a year
- Founder's packs announced
- did some basic math
150 - 45 (assuming sub/patron is $15 a month as other games) = $105
105 - 75 (value of the coins awarded, also remember that you can use coins to purchase more patron time) = $30
It is reasonable that anyone who was really planning on playing AA was going to subscribe at least 3 months in their AA career. Let alone for anyone playing any subscription based game would spend $15 a month to access their games. If this game were purely subscription based, you would drop $150 playing for 10 months. Let alone most games still having a basic purchase of $40-$60 regardless.
$150 seems steep, but it seemingly is asking, "hey, would you put in $30 for alpha access? An oh, btw, you get to start playing the game today and functionally have 2-3 months of experience in a game youve been wanting to play."
Now, not everyone has $150 just lying around, and that part can suck and be frustrating. But that's not on them. And if you cant financially support the industry, then dont complain about them not meeting your needs. You want content, customization, a great experience and awesome world, but scoff at the idea that they programmers/designers/artists/company doesnt need a little bit of coin in return?
Wipes are the problem. Even if you start as early as Alpha - you would loose everything as you move to a Headstart date - so that is a lot of waisted time for a game that is already released.
I'm in the alpha. Paid the 150. It's as simple as if you are interested in the game and have the money. The value of the purchase is subjective.
The alpha is not getting wiped. It will run parallel to beta and launch and will serve as public test. There is the possibility of alpha wipe if they have an update they can't put on top of existing code. But part of being alpha.
Finding the game to be fun so far. Korean style of gameplay is more 'generic' in terms of systems but incredibly deep in terms of customization. A style I felt has been missing. Not for everyone.
I look at what i get now and view the future as a perk. I know that i can play a game i like right now because i've the time. I will enjoy the game as if it was released, because why not? I'm not going to spoil anything as i already know what i'll get. I don't know how much free time i'll have when it will launch, or if i'll be able to enjoy it as i can now. I don't view the alpha as "wasted time because everything gets wiped" who cares; i started 3 times a 4th won't change anything, what matters is the fun i've every time i log in the game.
I can see some justification for a 'founders' pack, given say you get your 'coin value' of it on launch with other perks... but THAT much for a game that involves JUST localization. I'm sorry but thats damn greedy Trion. I love you as a company but this just is a slap in the face. A founders pack is used mostly to support developing games, and while you DO have development costs for localizing, its not remotely CLOSE to the amount it would be creating the actual game.
I have no problem if its a "Spend $50 get $50 coins and access for beta" type deal (even if i feel its a bit 'milking' of a wallet and not completely good for the consumer) but this is just horrible. People should have to pay so much extra for access to TEST YOUR DAMN CONTENT, and by your content i mean your ability to LOCALIZE A GAME. Its just a no go at all. Its horrible.
This isn't a free to play game when you are pushed into subscribing to get access to things like housing and farms. They are key aspects of this game. So F2P is basically a lie. On top of that, they have a cash shop. Double whammy.
LP is why many crafters going to love this game btw, one guy can't get ahead and flood the market.
Crafters arent going to love the game.
Crafters love a game like SWG, where the best crafters were able to make best equipment. From what ive seen there is no way to influence the crafting in AA...no better materials and experimentation like SWG, no strategic resource usage like Vanguard or FFXIV. Just simplistic gather-click-no fail combine with a proc chance.
And the competitive crafters will be forced to buy Labor Point potions to catch up with the ones that do. So crafting will have some form of pay 2 win element. its possible Trion doesnt sell LP potions, but if they planned on not selling them I think they would have told us by now.
So standard craft system with a p2w element. Yup, theyll be all over that!

Alpha characters will get wiped and then the closed beta characters will get wiped and then once in open beta no more wipes ( since that is release for anything f2p ). You are fooling yourself if you think what you do in the alpha is going to carry over or what you even do in closed beta. Not happening.
Old school Ultima Online is where many in ST began their MMO journey. In 1997 we came together and have made appearances in most major MMOs along the way, often times changing the face of whatever server we played. Never in sheer force, or number ...but in guile, efficient slaughter, and knee-deep politicking. Even today it is unknown by most the things that went on behind the scenes in past games. Entire server wars began ....and ended, at the feet of the Sinister Tyrants. Simply dominant super-zergs dissipated by a simple seed planted here, and planted there.. set to bloom when the time was ripe.
Always the anti-zerg, unyielding in the face of greater numbers, and unflinching in the face of death.
We are looking for solid members, men & women ...to join us and to help us dive into the fray and shake up the lands of ArcheAge. We might not ever get the credit, but we'll always have the satisfaction of knowing the events that we help to foster! We are just now beginning to come out of hibernation, and while we will bring a few of the most loyal members with us from other games ...this is a fresh start, and we need new blood! Those of you who want to lead, and recruit, and be a part of building us up ...we encourage you to join and help to shape our identity moving forward, becoming the very fabric that holds this community together.
Mature folks, with chill personalities are a MUST! We're a family here, and we run on a certain relaxed vibe, so we can't have that broken up by "leet" kids, or people with personality disorders. We value intelligence and common sense. Just plain old good people.
Also, while we won't rage/quit or cry if we lose ...we enjoy winning, and we do most of the time. We want winners on our team, though we are not elitists and welcome all skill levels we do need people with the right attitude. (a positive one!)
Many a day in the annals of our past, one would look out the window of our keep or guild house, only to see it surrounded by throngs of people out for blood ....our blood. It was like a breath of fresh air. And I must say it gave us pleasure dancing around the corpses of the slain, donning their garments in hopes that their spirit might see our mockery. Ahhh, to have that feeling once more .....we hope to find it again here, in the world of ArcheAge.
However before you toss any money at archeage you need to understand , Archeage is NOT a AAA title, not even a AA title.

The game looks horrible and is completely outdated in terms of technology. Blurry textures, low poly landscapes with painted on grass and rocks. Almost zero foliage and only a few trees. Horrible animations. No AntiAliasing or any advanced graphical effects (HDR, SSAO).
----
It's F2P for a reason. No one in his right mind would pay for it.
----
Except the suckers that buy the "Alpha" for an already finished and released game.
you know when you have to make a list of justifications like this, that it is not really worth the money...but that you want it bad and should just throw the money at TRION for it.
certainly cant justify it for myself to throw that much money for a game that you could just play for free on the russian version, untill it got released or got into open beta.
It gives the company more money, more people spend on games there more games there will be and with larger budgets.
No, not at all. It just makes it clear to these companies that they do not need to make better games to make more money. They just need to invest in better marketing. The quality of the game is not that important, it needs to be passable and marketing needs to play the market in creating the hype and making the fans believe that this game is the next best thing. They are willing to pay upfront without knowing what they are paying for anyway.
I been playing AA in Russia, I have two level 50s, heck I have gave Mail.RU over 150 dollars. I have a bit of an Idea what kind of game it is, I think it is amazing.
I do understand that in the case of AA the gamble is minimized to the factor whether Trion will or will not screw up their localization and other changes made to the game.
You really believe the amount of money being spent on games has no relationship to how many games are being produced or the size of their budgets.
No, but I did not say that. I depict the scenario that the games being produced will go down in quality as a result of the current trend in which companies create the possibilities for people to hand over their money before the game is actually released. I am not looking forward to more mediocre games or more of the same games. But that is what we are seeing more and more. Oh, and I am not talking about AA but about the current trend in the game industry as a whole that you as a consumer are supporting.

I'm very disappointed that Trion is going the money grab route lke SOE.
Release the game before it's ready, call it alpha and charge triple+ what the game should cost.
It's a freakin backwards world we live in.
And people bash boxes w/ sub fees. I give up.
