If I remember correctly, there were paint kits for speeder bikes in SWG. It's been so long so I might be thinking of something else. Not sure what level Carbine is talking about with customization, but changing color schemes still counts.

I played this game extensively, putting it through benchmarks after every patch until the end of Closed Beta, and this game has not improved one frame since the earliest beta opening. The FPS is horrendous, and will definitely drop under 60 fps in many, many areas, no matter what rig you have. One of the clues that the optimization is so awful is that you get a nearly identical framerate no matter what graphic settings are chosen in the options.
Agrias is absolutely right that this game is one of the worst optimized MMOs to come out in a long while. I invite everyone to try the open beta and experience the heart-wrenching tragedy that is Wildstar. Such beautiful animations wasted on an engine that only runs correctly when you hide in a non-populated area and turn the camera towards the wall. At that point, you can see how nicely your character walks and runs. As long as you run into the wall and don't turn the camera.
I preordered and now I wish I hadn't. Combat is the biggest issue for me with its spammy, carpal-tunnel-inducing design. The next problem is the design aesthetics that veer into different for the sake of being different territory, instead of changes designed to make a better product with a coherent theme. I've played several characters to about level twenty, and I have no interest to keep playing after that.
I tried but unable to even get in game. Freezes on EULA screen. After searching forums without any luck, I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle and uninstalled. Nothing new here really. These grandiose statements reek of desperation.

It's all the fanboys and gals who are ruining this right now for me. "OHH THE GAME RUNS FINE FOR ME SO YOU ALL NEED BETTER PC'S CUZ ITS FINE ON MY END" doesn't mean that the thousands of other people reporting issues are lying or not having problems and that the game is ready for launch. Having a PC 10x better than recommended hardware and not having more than 20-30 fps in any zone proves there is something deeper than just optimization efforts that will never be fixed.
People have said this sounds like desperation, and who can blame Wildstar? They are with NCSoft, who is notorious for not giving Western publishers much slack. If this thing doesn't bring in titanic subscriber numbers in the first month or so, the game will be toast in a year. I have to think the devs know this.

Hell, the devs should be the game's number one cheerleaders. They should have confidence in their product (if they don't, how can consumers?). And YES, they should be shouting from the highest mountaintop that they have the best features, player experience, and total package, even if they don't truly believe it themselves, because that's what they'll strive for and that's what maintaining an image of excellence is all about.
I don't believe a word of it, but hell, I can admire what they're trying to accomplish.

For instance, I thought I would like WS better than ESO and as it turns out I actually enjoyed my time more in ESO than I have in WS beta so already I will just say that they are wrong IMO. I generally don't mind questing but WS feels years behind in that the questing feels almost too linear. It is a fun game and I look forward to seeing if I can enjoy it enough to make it to the "elder game", but so far it's not looking like I will.This isn't a WS vs.ESO comment, just pointing out that already I have enjoyed another MMO more this year.
