+1 = League of Legends: Regardless of what can be said about the toxic community, the game has by far the best f2p model I've seen. The gameplay is also more fluid and responsive than any other MOBA i've played/seen. Although, SMITE is pretty darn fun, the character choices are considerably limited in comparison. If you're not into gods and mythology, SMITE leaves you unsatisfied, whereas, LoL covers everything from cute characters, to girl-power femme fatales, to beastly monsters, to matrix-agent-like gun weilders, to robots and scifi / steampunk characters.
+1 = Hearthstone: Just, try it. If you haven't, you have no excuse. Addicting card game that's easily accessible and almost impossible to master, as there is a high level of "random" involved. as all card games have... but this one has Blizzard's polish all over it.
TBH I can't believe in 4 pages or responses, I didn't see either of these 2 games mentioned.
MOBA is not my cup of tea, but Hearthstone is really a fun game. I am eagerly waiting for the PvE expansion (coming in July).
I've played CCG's on flash game websites that are better than Hearthstone. The only thing hearthstone does better is limit the pay to win aspect of a CCG, but even then in a game where card choice = more freedom to build the deck of your choosing, you can only do so much to limit that.
When I say i've played CCG's on flash game websites that are better, I mean they're better in the way of having an actual story/mission mode, raids even where you can join up with friends/guild members and fight a boss that has a crazy amount of hp and super powerful cards.
Hearthstone looks like an unfinished game compared to some of them.
Guild Wars 2. The content, the PvP, omg duke the PvP! The "world" PvP is some of the best I have seen since Dark age of camelot. Sure it was "instanced", but the scope, the ideas, everything I loved. And you could level off of PvP, and..it was always free to play.
Oh and the potions..don't get me started on the potions, nothing funnier than 40+ people running around as animals..just something about that..makes me laugh. It is the little things, the obscure things that get me.
The PvE? Never played it much in GW2. All about the PvP! lol
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.
best no monthly fee game to me? GW2, because nothing else out there gives me (note i said ME, not you or anyone else ;] ) the fresh gameplay, overall fun and immersion i get in GW2 for no monthly fees.
We all like different things and there is nothing wrong with that. GW2 is at the top on my list.
Originally posted by Stizzled Haven & Hearth, for sure. It's one of, if not the, best MMOs I've ever played. It's also one of the few "sandbox" MMOs that's actually a sandbox and not just a FFA deathmatch. On top of that, it's completely free, no box fee, no sub and no cash shop.
This is my favorite game. I have been playing since 2009. honestly this game has ruined all other games for me... I came here today to find another game to play on the side but I watched a few gameplay videos and I am instantly turned off... I need the sandbox/permadeath experience... anything else seems lame now.
DEVs are currently refreshing the game with new graphics and systems. I highly recommend you guys try it out when the next world reset occurs.
Rift, Aion, Tera, Dota 2, may also include GW2 on the list. Rift and Aion are my longest run ever on F2P game, while I only played Tera & GW2 for 4 months or so. However, while I've already left Rift, Aion, and Tera for good, I still play GW2 once in a while, casually.
I've probably spent the most time in DCUO though, its hardly free -- I mean it is F2P but if you aren't getting the new powersets and all, I don't find it worth it. It still has by far the best combat I've every played in an MMO.
Fallen Earth is free now, but, I loved it back when it was P2P, and I probably won't go back anytime soon, but its a great game overall.
GW2 is fun, sometimes I go back and see whats new.. but the classes do get rather boring and the content is just rehashed over and over if you plan on getting any "top tier" items that people "don't really need" but its really the only reason to keep playing.
I'm looking forward to spending cred in WildStar so I don't have to pay to play that... really excited about that too.
OH Global Agenda was an amazing game, I played that off and on for a long time -- really amazing combat and interesting classes and dynamics. Totally worth the play.
I guess my vote would go for Fallen Earth, because its closest to old school complexity. And I mean its basically Fallout online mixed with semi sandbox Galaxies style.
But flavor of the month is Neverwinter.
The game is suprisingly fun. It has action combat that is better than Wildstar, Tera or GW2. And lore, quests and enviroments are real treat if you love D&D and Forgotten Realms.
reading the replies I can really see why so many hate f2p. The best f2p game should be the one you like playing the most, not the one that offers the most free shit. Very few of the relies even mention if the game is good or not, it's just a list of all the stuff you can get for nothing. Sad that it's a lot of the same people complaining about why all mmos are the same.
I like swtor because it's raiding has been easy to get into and has a lot of progression to work though.
Tera had the best combat and I liked the art design of the entire game.
warframe was a stupid amount of hours killing shit with friends.
I haven't played any of them for free, but I probably wouldn't be playing any of them if they weren't free to start with.
Thanks for saving me the time to post the exact same thing . For me SWTOR or AOC, some would argue the worst F2P for monetary options, still I like the games themselves, don't really care about the rest.

I'd be interested in knowing why they had to be F2P to begin with in order to get you to play them? I've of the exact opposite mind, if a game is F2P, especially from the start, I'm less likely to give it a try.
BTW, I played both SWTOR and TERA when they were not F2P, and didn't care for them after a few months. Can't see the fact that they are free now making them any more attractive and would not consider returning.
Back on topic, there have been no F2P games that I've played much longer than 2-3 months, only exception was a DAOC freeshard last year for over 9 months, not because it was free, but because it was set to a 2003 ruleset that I favor over the current commercial version.

i can think a lot MMOs like Rift, TERA, Fallen Earth, APB Aion, Age of Conan (but it has class restrictions which sucks) but GW2 is by far the best, just cause it has nice combat and an excellent artistic world, although the world is NOT seamless and the game is extremely themepark ...

I played both at launch and didn't play long either. They just didn't seem like they were worth paying for at the time.
Free to play for me is try before you buy. not in some half baked beta/alpha stage. Post launch where everything they're offering is on the table. If it isn't worth paying for then, I tend to not play them. I don't look for a game to be free so I can be a hobo player. I look for them so I know what I'm buying into if I/when do spend money.
Both Tera and SWTOR I played for a bit free when I came back to see what was going on. It was only after I kept playing every day fro about a week that I decided I'd sub to them. If I had to just sub to see if it was good, I'd never bother.
I guess it's why I'm not as bitter as so many people around here. I'm not constantly dumping $60+ down on these games only to find out I didn't like them. Older mmos that have been out a few years have way more to offer than these new mmos do. More content, and the people playing them aren't tourists that chase every new shinny that comes alone. And they're not crawling all over everyone trying to be first. It's just a better group of people playing older mmos.
Halo 3 - high re playability, couch co op , achievements, no gear grind, buy to play, no cash shops, dlc that actually had value. That's why I am a Bungie fan and I'm all in on Destiny, I just hope they keep the cash shops out of the game.
I do not see f2p in that title only no monthly fee so I guess b2p can be included in this! Yeah OP say f2p in the post itself but then he's not being clear or consistent so we can assume he means all games with no recurring monthly cost. ie f2p b2p etc since so many people seem confused and all lump this into f2p.
Never played this game so I AM assuming there no fee for multi-player and only a box price!
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

This was the approach I used to play SWTOR as well as a couple others that I ended up subscribing to after having played F2P for a bit. I agree with Daemon's opinion here.
If it's worth playing, it's worth paying. Although a game doesn't have to go F2P. But I need to know what the game is before I spend money on it. I'll be damned if I buy into any new MMORPGs sight unseen anymore. My policy after FFXIV was to never pre-order these games no matter what the hype and early indicators are. I thought for sure XIV was my new home. Even as players were starting to enter into Endgame. But as the game grew past it's initial launch and teh 1st patches started to reveal the direction the game was going, I realized it was not the game I thought it would be.
This has saved me...oh prbably a couple hundred by now as I would have bought into both WildStar and ESO. But I adhered to my new policy and I'm glad I did. It seems neither of those games are for me.
I think no game can beat minecraft, I know it is not free, but for the potential thousands of hours you can invest to it and all for 15 bucks... it is hard to beat!
The entire game is free, no pay to win, only cosmetic.
A pretty decent game to boot, with excellent crafting, so so combat, and a huge world to explore.
Just checked Fallen Earth on YouTube but the graphics look very dated? I checked out this vid - - which was posted earlier this month so it's not an old gameplay video.
Looks like an old PS2 game or indie game.
What's so good about it that can make me look past the dated graphics?
Many many things. But you sound like you are very uptight about graphics, so it may not be for you.
The graphics may not be the best but it has great atmosphere for a post-apoc type of game. And when I say it has good crafting, I mean that all weapons and armor in the game are player made. Loot drops are mats only for the most part. A gear drop is very very rare and usually only as part of a quest. So this makes crafting a very important part of the game.
I can't comment much on the PvP because I never did much, but many ingame players seem to enjoy that aspect.
But I doubt from your comment that you are much of a crafter either, and the combat probably won't be your cup of tea either.
However since it won't cost you a dime I think it is well worth giving it a reasonable trial period. I never expected to like it either, but you never know unless you try.
I forgot to mention the flexibility you have in creating and upgrading you character. It is quite different as well from the usual MMO in that you assign points to various skills and attributes. You have the choice of Melee, Pistol or Rifle (sniper) toon. You cannot usually combine the different types because there are limited skill points available. Its very good system IMO and is another good aspect of the game.
Except that f2p is very restricted in crafting. Slower, less xp and no queueing crafting tasks, Something that is very important if you want to focus on crafting skills in Fallen Earth, because everything takes ages to craft at higher lvl (vehicles even earlier on). The whole crafting system is based on creating a crafting que to finish when you are offline. Unless this restriction has lifted ofc. But for me it destroyed a major feature in Fallen Earth as f2p. If you don't raise many crafting skills or just craft mainly ammo, then it is not so bad.
I won't go into all the bad changes since launch, which destroyed a lot of customisation for your character.
For me it is Rift that is the best F2P game. It is almost weird the lack of restrictions. On your first toon you probably run into bag/bank space problems. But when you get some coin, you can buy large enough bags from ah or vendors.
