[/quote] No, those were pictures from a PvP battle. Bloodfin is quite well known for these, the guilds that PvP always had and probably always will have huge numbers. Back one year and half ago, the guilds warred so much and so many people went PvPing they were known to crash or lag the server. The best PvPers in all of SWG servers probably play on Bloodfin. Bloodfin was one of the places where large PvP battles were planned, they happened out of nowhere.
Even for a PvP battle it was small. I remember the one time I really PvPed on Bloodfin, about Sept 2004. It was a HUGE battle in one of Naboo's NPC cities with a starport, can't remember the name but I know it wasn't Theed, or regularly visited city. The first time I went to the city I saw litterally nobody on my map or radar the entire time I checked it out. But this one time, I walked in on a bunch of players running to the starport to wait for the ship. Well I saw a few minutes later a huge blob coming towards these guys, the ship wasn't coming for awhile, and now the Imps I think were hot on the tail of this gang of Rebs. There was at least probably around 100 people involved here. And this was a completely unscheduled battle. Just a battle that had been brought about because it was primetime, and some Jedi had or were getting clonecamped.
Now the planned wars, and battles those from what I remember were known to crash servers and cause massive amounts of lag.
Bloodfin had a very good set of PvP guilds, players would even switch from Imp to reb to make things interesting at times. The Imps had control most of the time and were the most powerful, but many imps switched over to reb to get real battles to occur. Its no surprise that Bloodfin a server that encouraged PvP and PvPers has a strong population of PvPers that want to PvP.

QFE , this pvp battle was nothing compared to what it was pre-cu or even CU . I have been on bloodfin since SWG launched and you are correct it is a PVP server , always has always will be . There were all in all about 60 rebs who showed that night and maybe 30 imps kinda one sided . And 90 people is nowhere near the 300 or so who would be fighting back in 04'

I used to play on Eclipse pre-CU, arguably the most populated server after Bria and i honestly dont see any difference when it comes to PvP. Sure there were more players back then, but not that many more, and not in pvp. The battles from pre-cu and from the NGE are fairly equal when it comes to the number of participants.
It doesnt really matter how desperately you want the servers to be underpopulated, they arent and they never will be. There ARE still a ton of people playing this game, just log onto any server and go to bestine or mos eisley.

I love how the fanboys see 40 people doing pvp and think everything is all right. I follow the eclipse forums, they are completely dead now. None of the familiar names (including mine) post there anymore.
And I have 2 sources, one a personal friend who works in San Diego for SOE and another post with simliar data. My source says just under 40,000 subscribers as of January 1st. Im quite sure its less than that now. And more to follow as some prepaid their accounts and are just waiting for it to expire. Also some stuck around to see if the NGE would be fixed (it wasnt)
Prior to NGE the subscriptions hovered just above 200k. It was 250k right before CU. The expansion and movie failed to increase players and in fact they lost quite a bit. The NGE was a desperate act and failed miserably.

Ya know. I am SOOOOO sick of these "it's empty" "it's full" threads. It's worse than the damn 'great taste' 'less filling' commercials from the 80s. Unless you are gonna post current screenshots with a time that they were taken showing server populations I don't care how many people you happened to catch in a screenshot.
to me the only proof of a 'crowded' or 'packed' server is if it says "Heavy" or higher on the Server Select screen. I love how the people saying it's packed are fine posting screenshots of a few people in theed or coronet or mustafar and how the haters immediately say "but it was more packed than that before" I just think to myself... Why do you rely on how many people you see in a town that's been dead since CU because w/o doc buffs Coro and Theed became ghost towns all the activity moved out to the rim areas where people typically hunted.
If you're going to use screenshots as 'evidence' then post screenshots of the damn server screen that shows how crowded the servers are. Frankly I could care less about the conspiracy theorists that claim that SOE just changes the indicators on a whim. They're the closest thing we have to factual data so it's the best data to use. It is funny when a screenshot of 10 people on the radar is posted as "proof" the server is full.

It's just as funny when people who no longer play the game try to debate the server pops, exactly how do they know if the server is crowded or not? Which is why I don't do it. I'm just sick of seeing endless threads about it. Like I said, unless someone posts a screenshot of server loads at peak time I just disregard anything they say about how crowded, or empty, the game is. I don't much care either way since I no longer play but I find all ya'll just flat out funny when you debate this stuff and nobody bothers to get the real info.
Take a screenshot of server select at peak time on a Friday night (10pm Eastern) and post it. That will end all discussion on the matter.

Why would anyone pay for this garbage of a game just to prove a point? The people that have quit this game won't do it, the people that genuinely like this game the way it is don't care and the fanbois won't do it because they don't want their point thrown in their face. The truth is very few people here can admit that they are wrong and just move on to another discussion.
Then when screenshots are posted showing half the servers light, the other half very light and only 2 on medium or heavy, which we had a few weeks back, some of our resident fanbois just come in and say "I haven't seen the servers like that for months!" or "It's a weekday" or "It's the Winter's Soltice" or any other generic excuse.
The undeniable fact is that countless people have left this sorry game. For your amusement, just google the words: "SWG REFUGEES" and it'll come up with every forum for every other game that's out there with threads of people that have left this game for others. Hell! There's even a site just for SWG refugees. And if you think that just as many that have left, have subscribed to the game. Well, I got an island to sell you... Because you are obviously too gullible and will believe anything that Mr. Torres says. You don't need to be a rocket scientist, or even a veteran from day 1 in SWG to know that, for a Star Wars game, for the promise of this game, the server populations are just pathetic! 20 people on a screenshot do not constitute a server that's alive!
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
20 people on a screen is alot. And the simple fact is that there ARE people playing the game. Doesnt matter how many times you tell yourself its not true because it is. All you have to do is log in and see, the servers are still packed wether you like it or not.
Thank you.

20 people on a screen is jack squat. I'm sorry it's not proof of anything. Your average guild in HORIZONS (which anyone will admit is sparsely populated) can muster 20 people for a friggen screenshot. A screenshot with 20 people in it proves nothing. Neither that a server is packed nor that it is empty. It just proves that you took a screenshot when 20 people were around.
Wanna prove server pop to me? Screen cap server select at peak time on friday night.
Thanks, please move on. Till then all you freaks are just blowing hot air to hear yourselves argue. I could care less if SWG dies tomorrow or continues on for another 10 years. Won't matter.
Frankly I don't even know why I bother reading the forums anymore... morbid curiosity I guess.

20 people is NOT a lot. Of course the picture showed ten.
We had that many in our player city during peak.
I just find it very funny when someone claims "this place is PACKED". They don't know packed.
What is funnier is when you point that out they get all pissy.
Much more fun than what SWG has become.

20 people on a screen is a lot. LOL! That isn't even a drop in the bucket for most games these days.
You know this is worse than a high school lunch room . Make sure everyone sits at their proper tables please . .... Seriously , Star Wars Galaxies is a videogame . Just as WoW , COH , EVE GW or DAOC along with many others . What does it matter What shape it is in ? I see far to many flock like wild dogs on any topic regarding it . Only on an effort to criticize anything they can about the game or anyone who plays it . What is it you plan to accomplish ? If people like the game they are going to regardless of your opinion . Does it make you superior to them that you play a different game ? In some way does your intellect heighten when you switch to a different game ?

1. Some other company will take over SWG and revert to pre-cu (popular rumor) 2. $OE will lose the license and SWG2 will be developed by a better company. 3. $OE feels tortured every day for pulling this mess.... and hopefully Smed gets canned.
Word of mouth sells these MMORPGs more than anythig else. SWG must be shown for what it truly is... a LOUSY GAME. A once good game had fallen.
So as long as $OE and all their fanbois try to spin the nge as great, and there's "tons" of players playing the mess... we'll give the othr side of it. What many refer to as the truth.
If you want the SWG group-hug society, the forums are run by sony... and quite frankly, if you don't want to hear the bitching, stay out of threads with TITLES LIKE THIS!

The only truth is that SWG is a videogame ... Some like it some don't . But a crusade to save SWG is what you call it ? I am sorry but SWG2 will be what SWG2 is none of this forum bickering is gonna change that . Besides i highly Doubt SWG2 would be produced by SOE , that has nothing to do with you . The fact that SWG was not successful under sony is all that matters .
From your last few comments it seems you think i am defending SWG / SOE why would i care what happens to SWG ? It was a failed game even under its developers eyes . I have never said otherwise was it fun at one point ? hell yeah it was but alot of people never liked it at all . Thats why NGE came to be , If developers know their game is failing , its fitting they try and fix it .. Did they succeed ? Not by a long shot , But honestly Why would anyone leave a game they were enjoying just because SWG got some new features .
The way i see it , Most who left at NGE would of done so anyway . I left before hand myself games grow stale after 2 years of playing them . Everyone else just needed a reason , that reason was NGE .
AM i bitter at soe ? not at all .. I got 2 years of enjoyment out of the game . Most games that have been released in the last year or so are a bit more advanced than SWG ,technology has that tendancy. Thats why SWG has been dying not because you choose to complain about it .

Sorry, but it's not "just a game". Thousands of people spent many, many hours working on their characters. In many cases, they work harder on their characters than at their job every day. Even people who say "it's just a game" have put forth much of their life into these games.
The statement "it's just a game" is ignorant and just serves to piss people off who really care about a virtual world in which they have poured many hours into.
Its not a game. This is what MMORPG.com is about, this is what the articles The Escapist does are about. These are Virtual Worlds. This is the virtual realities that people were talking about 10 years ago, this is virtual reality.
And the "its just a game" mentality is an "ad hominem". It is a very poor argument to use.
Folks, returining to the initial thread, I'm a post NGE nooby, and when I perform a /who I dont really get more than 16-20 players, I play on infinity-european galaxy one of the busier servers (states as medium, where as others are light or very light).
I also added a forum entry to SOE's SWG official forum in reagrds to the City of Eden, near Jabba's palace being almost like a ghost town, in getting the reply since Post CU and NGE cities and their supporting infrastructure are no longer needed.
I enjoy playing the game (since I bought it about a week or so ago) and at around level 20 I havent really left Tattoine yet, the char lvl ups are too simplistic for me and combat is just point and click. Their is no penalties for death, and I've found to moev around from one area to another its quicker to get yourslef bumped off and cloned nearer your destination!!
What makes matters worse in seeing the remanents of the previous iterations of the game i.e desolated town and cities, showing how busy the servers must have been previously.
What is also frustrating is the SOE are really censoring their SWG Forum, any specific directed complaints against NGE etc are now getting deleted on a regular basis. My account was banned for 3 days after my 3rd post for suggesting SOE and LA should listen to their customer base (the ones that pay the bills!).

When I get back home today, Ill try to place a screenshot from pre NGE times. You'll see a big difference.
Also, as Im playing DAOC on the Merlin server, you can see more players online than in SWG (go to Jordheim, central building).

The reasons we wish its demise is so that ...
1. Some other company will take over SWG and revert to pre-cu (popular rumor)
