I leveled up tailoring past 50k so I could make the bets armor in the game. I knew it was going to be expensive and tedious just to make one piece, but little did I know how ridiculously tedious it would really be.
So I get to illustrious which takes a crapload of mats and time because you have to make every single piece tp make the next, which is just stupid in itself. Just make the next one cost more mats....stupid. Anyway, now I get to illustrious and have this mystery item to open up.....I get some lake hood. I go to craft Magnificent and low and behold......I need an OCEAN hood.
Really?! I go through all of those f'ing mats, and I need some random luck roll just to get the item to make the next item? The crap already takes a crapload of mats and money, now I need luck too?
About done with this grindfest. Once you get over the initial cool you discover this game is just one big grind, everything requires a grind.
I like games in which making the best of something literally take more than a year of real life playing.
Not doing that task during each play time of course but a game where you can literally map out where you think you will be 1 or 2 years in the future.
I think that is the difference between a hobby and idle pastime.
How many people will still be playing this game in 2 years from now?
Won't be the usual crowd ,,,that beats the game in 20 hours will it ? OP should have realized he set his goals a little too high he'll be lucky to make one piece of armor .....The crafting is game is set out so it will take several different top end crafters just to make a set of heavy armour ,,,,,then another set of different crafters to make each different weapon .
Choose your grind. Don't like a crafting grind? How about a leveling grind? or grinding tokens/badges/comms, How about grinding rare gear drops, or grinding reputation or grinding honor.
Playing MMOs is simply choosing your preferred way to grind.
Pretty much this. Don't like some type of grind? then MMOrpgs probably aren't your genre. If you think of it, any game is a grind really, only some reward you and some don't. There is no game that can produce content at the same pace that players can play through it, so players inevitably repeat content whether it is crafting, pvp, raids, dungeons, dailies, etc. This goes for basically any genre.
Player generated content helps, and this game has a lot of it.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Archeage is an acquired taste, really. I just feel sorry for those who didn't have that type of taste and didn't realize it when they paid $150 for the founders' pack and whatever else.
It is pretty crazy but it's also eventually the best gear (armor at least) you can possibly get in the game.
I haven't played an MMO I can remember where crafting made by far and away the best gear.
That being said I don't think I'll attempt to craft it myself. I went as far as crafting one illustirous piece and it was the wrong one for my class and it was hard enough selling that for a loss.
Really? Guildwars 2 let you craft the best armor in games (ascended)and it just the latest other game.
Crafting in AA do have potential and some good ideas but it can and should be improved. After all is crafting pretty important here so it should be one of the top priorities. That doesn't mean I think it sucks but MMOs improve their systems all the time.
I didn't play too much GW2, but was it miles better than gear from drops/pvp?
Basically the only way to get top notch gear in Archeage is crafting (besides weapons which you can get from Hasla).
If you never craft or buy from crafters, you'll never be able to compete.
It's basically like top-level crafting is level 100 gear and dropped gear is level 25.
I've never seen anything like that in an MMO I've played. Normally crafting produces one or two items which are barely on par with stuff you can get from drops.
The difference being that the economy and crafting is paramount in this game.
AA has 3 sets of crafted gear, that is pathetic. I would not call that crafting or content. That's more like tetris, wait, even tetris is more complex.
Everyone will look the same and have same stats. Dumb and boring. Typical grind one trick pony crafting with no options. Stupid one set end game gear.

There are 4 different varieties of stat allocations and like 8 different qualities of the like 8 different tiers. Most people will be going for the best quality of one specific one they can get, but there are different kinds.

Yeah, I'm currently play EVE while I wait for the initial rush to die down in AA and they get some of the kinks worked out.
I did play during alpha though, and for the first 30 levels or so, I mostly solo'd and really wasn't sure I was enjoying myself. Then I hooked up with a large guild and learned to jump off the quest train and found a hidden gem inside AA, but you have to "find the fun" as it were.
Not everyone sees it, I guess you have to know what to look for and recognize it when you find it.

From 1-39 dropped items are better than crafted don't see much on the market worth buying this game needs too many items to craft, i like crafting this is more of a job than a game just not fun.

Dropped Items of equal level and quality are always worse than crafted items in AA....at every stage of the game.
I agree with the op. I looked into the chances before I ever started my illustrious set. my first illustrious set gave me random everything. out of 7 items I crafted my largest set was 3. not bad but it gets worse as level goes up. crafting 40k gear you have a 1 in 7 chance of getting what you actually want. to get a set would have to sell what I made and buy what I wanted or start all over at the level 20 gear and build another set. I am sure a lot of people will get along fine with this system. It was however the nail in the coffin for me.
I really don`t get why people equate RNG to `hard`.
Ultimately, AA crafting is about getting together a bunch of expensive mats, spending some labor and rolling the dice. Most people don`t understand how harsh this can be until they lose 200 gold and 1000 labor worth of stuff in an instant. You sit there and realize wow I just wasted the last 10 hours of my life for nothing.
A bunch of people are talking about how this is so wonderful because it gets players to work together and makes BiS nearly impossible to attain, but the reality is:
Endgame = farm mats and gold --> roll dice
There is no actual challenge like beating a raid boss or killing other players required. Running or stealing packs just make the process slightly more efficient.
RNG gear is extremely dangerous is a pvp focused game since over time the gear gap becomes huge and it is virtually impossible for new players in particular to ever catch up (one of the main problems people have with EVE).
The game is decently fun at the moment because everyone is at a similar gear level. When we get to the point where GHA gear becomes obsolete the game is dead.

I share your dislike of RNG mechanics when creating gear, I too prefer to be rewarded after spending the time/resources to craft somethign and don't enjoy watching my items go "poof" as is often the case with games such as this or Lineage.
I have to take issue with your comparison with EVE however, there is not a lot of RNG influence in EVE crafting and there is no issue in catching up with other players in EVE, that's one of the greatest mis-understandings about the game.
Anyways, don't mean to derail the thread, definitely a strong RNG element to AA crafting and let's face it, the main purpose for it is to add a big timesink to crafting, in order to keep people playing (and hopefully paying) longer, any other "benefits' are secondary.

I realize its a misconception in EvE, but it is still one of the main reasons people don`t try it regardless.
At least in Eve if someone builds an OP ship there is no RNG, but he loses it if it gets killed. The only way people permanently lose something in AA is through RNG crafting failure. Dice rolls have infinitely more meaning than actual PVP.
