This all vastly amuses me. I, of course, voted TSW. But just some numbers who think TSW is getting too many votes and has to be cheating:
An -In character- RP fan-run radio station for TSW has 1,300 followers on twitter. This is only really RP crowds interested in following that sort of RP.
My character's RP account has 700+ followers.
The account for the main RP website in TSW follows everyone who actively indicates they have an RP account for TSW follows over a thousand people.
This is just the part of the fanbase that RPs on twitter and goofs off there. It includes nothing of numbers of players who don't RP, don't bother with RP accounts on twitter, or prefer PVE and PVP. It includes nothing of the numbers of people who are casting a vote on this website for the sake of whim because they don't have a particular dog in the race. The numbers don't need to be inflated, particularly not at this point. This is completely in the realm of completely feasible. Also keep in mind that TSW's fanbase can particularly zealous because many of us came to TSW due to ARGs and various connections. We support our devs (a couple fridays ago, they ended up getting cupcakes AND a cake from two different groups at their main office just to show appreciation) and we very much know the importance of getting our game's name out there. It's a similar mentality I've seen on the ESO forums for those who aren't making accusations. They want ESO to win because they ALSO know it's a possibility for new players. Neither group of players want to miss an opportunity for the game they love to get new players and to be successful.
So let's stop it with the accusations, and if anyone on EITHER Side fancies the idea of cheating, cut that out too. It's supposed to be a well-natured competition and both sides want new players. No new players want to come to a game where they see the community acting like a pit of vipers. Tempers were riled and false-information passed out, so let's state our vows to play fair and stop being snippy with each other. ESO and TSW are vastly different games and honestly, aren't in competition with one another for the same sort of fan. TSW is focused on horror and conspiracy mysteries, ESO is on a long standing brand of fantasy. If other people are like me, they could very easily play BOTH (I don't, but only because I've never really managed to fall in love with the Elder Scrolls series. I've tried and bought all the games, it doesn't click for me), but I do subscribe to WoW, SWTOR, am a grandmaster in TSW, and am currently also subscribed to FFXIV. They each have things for me to do that are vastly different than each other. That's not a bad thing!
So, everyone, stop baring claws and fangs at each other and just enjoy the competition. It's not even about 'may the best game win' because that means such different things to different people. Take this opportunity to show the best side of your community and game. You attract more flies with honey, after all.
Unless you're in TSW in which case the flies are a decidedly bad thing.

Are you kidding, trolling or just blinded? I really loved LOTRO 2-3 years ago. It was my first real MMO, and holds my fondest memories. But even then I'd never have said it had the best dev team, not by a long shot. The game is now a shadow of its former self, I talk to my friend who still plays. Beornings apparently don't have their own essence armor with might on it, ToO still hasn't been scaled, they're still committed to adding new Big Battles which means there's no indication of them returning to dungeons/raids, which imo is what makes an MMO an MMO. Oh, and there's apparently an exploit to have 100 times your normal stats and hit for 5mil damage. I don't even understand how LOTRO made it this far in the competition. It's not even popular anymore, the dev team has all but completely given up (most likely because WB won't fund the game), it's going nowhere fast. Just look at the differences between the expansions. Moria was incredible, 7 dungeons, 3 raids, LI system, a HUGE world expansion (Moria was something ridiculous like 10 new areas, plus Lothlorien). RoR? Mounted combat. HD? Big battles. Joke upon joke. LOTRO today is an insult to mmorpgs, while LOTRO back in Moria and even Mirkwood could've easily rivaled WoW and anything else. What a pity to think about what that game could've been if they'd have continued down that route.

LOTRO really has some of the more extensive, atmospheric and EXCELLENT content that I have ever experienced in any themepark mmo! The map is huge, the npc's are loveable and the story isn't lore breaking at all. I feel that lotro has more to offer to most than eve, I also have played BOTH of them off and on for years! LOTRO got my vote.

If you're a PvE/RP player, LOTRO is the top game for you, deep lore, involving, unfolding epic, classic locations, massive, open world, unparallelled cosmetics for both player and horse.
[snip]
Players have cycled through all the newest stuff, spent time in the super hyped games and realized that the game they are looking for is LOTRO. Excellent community, decent crafting, truly awesome cosmetics system, superb lore, wonderful soundtrack, different classes and races, incredibly beautiful landscape, player music system, multiply ways to progress, war-steeds, mounted combat, skirmishes, big battles, scaling dungeons and raids, housing, weapon building and flexibility, dual-speccing classes.
[snip]
As a PvE / RP player (also adventurer) I must say you made a nice, detailed list of my views about the game. (though I'm not a big fan of skirms or BB. Except engineering, that's fun.) I agree with your post fully. I just don't understand why is LotRO still here, in this toxic environment...
My plan was to simply laying back after the second round, grab some popcorn and laugh my head off as GW2 v ESO and EVE v Wow lunatics clash onto eachother in a massive forum pvp battle Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that TSW and LotRO are still standing, and it's amusing to read the comments, but I'd like it more without my main games participating I guess...
(and apologies for the snip, this thread is already way too long, didn't want to recite everything, I just thought to give 10 internetz for your post. Was a great LotRO review.)

That didn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that for months it was promoted as having 3 faction PVP but it turned out to be all in one small little scenario. If they had developed the PVP as much as they once said they were going to, I'd still be playing.
To me the choices are pretty clear. You like PVP? It's ESO and EVE by a country mile. You hate PVP (and don't mind cash shops ) it's TSW and LOTRO.
To be entirely honest LOTRO has some very intense pvp. I pvp every day in LOTRO. It is literally themepark open world pvp. Instead of arenas it is an entire region and you do daily quests that involve killing players and NPC Generals.

LotRO is very RP friendly and has a large RP community. RPers tend to be very loyal and very passionate about their game of choice since they become very heavily invested in their characters.
The population of that game has plummetted, the devs aren't allowed to make real expansions or end game content anymore either. I can understand the attraction to the RP element I just didn't think they had nearly enough remaining players to win this.
conspiracies aside, I have played both tsw and eso to endgame. both are great games, but eso has had plenty of "made up nonsense" spewed all over it.
heres my opinion, as unbiased as possible. I love both of these games.
(more information to share in regards to ESO as it growing rapidly and it is what I am currently playing).
Tsw over eso:
atmosphere - TSW has always nailed the horror themes perfectly in content and immersion.
Originality - one cannot deny that investigative questing within and outside (real world) of TSW was something inspiring. (though in most cases I'd look up the answers).
Genre - fighting monsters in real world, modern day locations? yes please!
Community - though i couldn't say that TSW is better over the ESO community they are/were both populated by decent, easy going and respectful players. in contrast to having left wow then joining TSW. I'd have to say TSW restored my faith in gamers after the influx of juveniles that swarmed WoW when it went "easy mode".
Difficulty - I am unsure though hopeful that TSW hasn't had the Nerf-over that so many games have had in recent years. the fact that slip ups could and usually would lead to failure in TSW was one of the best aspects for me. but encounters could still be salvaged by quick thinking players. (unless of course the healer dies...). unfortunately ESO has given in to some of the demands of lazy gamers.
----------------------------------
ESO over TSW:
Quality: the first thing you notice is the level of detail in the graphic environment and effects, amazing voice acting and interactivity within the world. (and elements of realism are still being added).
Immersion: with the level of quality and depth of lore and freedom of choice ESO makes the RP aspects enjoyable even if you are the most serious anti-RP player. all the above elements brought me back to the fantasy genre after the distaste wow had left with pandas.
combat: TSW has a very involved spell/ability system when making builds but unfortunately still ends up making cookie cutter builds necessary, ESO has a more fluid and physical form of combat, both have the freedom of choice on the go, but elements like block, dodge, interrupt are a matter of the player's reflexes. as animation issues are being tuned the combat reminds me of a 3rd person shooter.
Mounts and interactibles - nothing fancy, just horse mounts. but interactive siege elements are a step above TSW.
PVP: so far eso has only the 1 massive pvp zone which provides fighting and warring on all scales, TSW does have large pvp zones but each more traditional with timed fights. Cyrodiil is a constant war waged between 3 factions amid PVE content. further upcoming expansions with the imperial city and justice system (good guys and bad guys within factions). original for MMOs.
Crafting - best I've seen. relevant gear, not at all junk. exploration adds to the crafting system in the form of "crafting stations that create specific gear sets, ye olde schematics, self sustaining materials from deconstruction. also systems being improved.
for those who are shattered that their favorite games are neither of these 2...
both games fail with end game content in my experience. issues in TSW are refreshing but don't provide "expansion" to content. the zones you complete provide little incentive to revisit them. though the addition of Tokyo, that I have not returned to experience, surely has added to content, I would not be surprised if afterwards you find yourself still standing around in agartha.
ESO requires more content and expansion and from what we read it is well on the way, both solo, group, PVE and PVP more is coming. good to see profits being put back into the game that generates them (sideways look at trion). justice system will also provide incentives to travel back to locations.
it is apparently difficult to create ongoing interesting content in MMOs that aren't all about gear grinding. but we live in hope...
anyway, to sum up...
if this is a competition for "most popular" MMO right now, the winner may not be the same if you repeated this competition a few months from now. I would give notoriety for first, second and third placed winners evenly as it is such a broad matter of taste but in regards to popularity the remaining few clearly are favorites for the majority. meaning "semi-final" titles are probably a good place to start if you are looking for a new MMO to play.
So you are telling me LOTRO is better than EVE ?! ... THAT excuse of "game" is better than the current leading space MMO ?
LOTRO has the graphics of a 2001 single player game and lets not talk about the dull combat system ..
This so called Face-off is nothing but a gathering ground for trolls to troll =_=
God forbid someone has a different opinion than you and your one and only post thus far.
Apply cold water to the-- no wait, actually, don't. Let it burn for a while. :P
Actually his point is more than valid. Someone with one post comes on here with the sole purpose to bash one game and praise another is pretty lame. Your response is pretty child like, but then again this is what the these voting threads have become.

I was in LOTRO at the very beginning and "Monster play" although kind of cute, is not what I'd call real PVP - for that you need ESO with siege equipment, keeps and a humongous persistent 24/7 zone... nor was it ever Turbine's priority.
I still pop-in now and then (it's installed in my HD) and play around with my Loremaster and Burglar but it never even occurs to me to PVP there, I go for the stories, the atmosphere and some mighty fine people in the community but I get all the PVP fix I need out of ESO.

I feel you man, it isnt by any means the best pvp game lmao. None the less its there and it really does hold my attention. I played ESO as well and tbh I just have more desire to play lotro for some reason.

EVE and LotRO? Personally, I'd vote LotRO because I'm Fantasy geek. But EVE got my vote.
Wait, what?
This makes no sense.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I think what Bill means is that while he enjoys LotRO a bit more due to his fantasy geekiness, he still feels that Eve Online is the better game, hence why he voted for it.

The RP element (and kins) in that game were the only thing that kept me playing as long as I did. Shadows of Angmar and Mines of Moria were utterly fantastic. Unfortunately, starting around the Mirkwood expansion, the quality of the game nosedived hard, and I doubt it's a coincidence that it was shortly after that it went F2P. The game has been terrible ever since.

Yep ESO being ahead of The Secret World is lame. The five funcom fans still left in the world are clicking theor buttons a lot. In all seriousness I don't know anyone who play a TSW. I played it at launch but the animations and combat killed it for me. Solid game though.
Yes I am a newly registered voter. Yes I voted for ESO. Let me just copy/paste something I just posted on the ESO forum:
''I find all of the accusations amusing. TSW says the ESO community is pulling shady tactics to win. The ESO community says TSW fans are pulling shady tactics to win. Both communities are conspiring to win.
Isn't that the point?
Most of us understand that MMORPG is using this as a "hit" revenue generating tactic. Yet we still vote. We vote because we want to support our community. We vote because we want our voices heard.
Both communities are cheating and resorting to whatever tactics can win the contest. Duh.
But that is the beauty of it all. Because at the end of the day the most engaged community will win.''
Actually no. TSW community probably isn't cheating or conspiring or stuffing the ballot with fake accounts. Overall TSW's community is fairly mature. That type of community is another of its unusual strengths.
TSW fans are trying to get out the message to vote, because TSW fans like the game. But cheating or conspiring to win? I doubt it. TSW community isn't like that. It's the the type of place where fans run a help channel to get people started in the game (sanctuary) and another channel for running dungeons (noobmares) where noobs are welcome and people are patient and understanding. Compare that to games like FFXIV where fans make channels to keep out noobs and not only gear check people but boot them out if they don't have the achievements that prove they've already completed the content. (TSW isn't the only community like this obviously; EVE is another game that has an amazing community that helps people get started in the game.)
I'm going to give ESO the benefit of the doubt and assume that your attitude doesn't represent the community. Because if ESO is cheating and using using whatever tactics and your attitude is "Duh, of course we have no integrity and we're the kind of people you'd be stuck playing with if you join ESO" then win or lose, ESO doesn't have a good community.
If ESO fans rally to vote and win, then good for them. But don't assume all communities are rotten if that's what you're used to in other games.

I find that insulting. And it is not true, there is quite a decent number of people playing.
I also don't understand wth is wrong with the animations that so many people criticize, seriously... The graphics are top notch, the animations are no better or worse than other MMOs, and the combat *is* good!

I purchased Eso last night and the graphics are far worse than TSW "Everything on Ultra" But it doesn't look awful. TSW definitely looks much better graphic wise though.
I can't comment on the combat yet i'm merely at the start of the game, it has potentional but I can't see how this will work in pvp or group content yet.
TSW's combat is often regarded as bad because people don't bother getting further into the game and it requires a lot of thought to make it work well. The huge amount of freedom is what long time TSW members love about the combat, sadly the huge amount of freedom makes it harder for those that lack the will to understand or simply don't try to understand it a very bad idea of how it works. (Initially obviously the combat only looks like build 5 times and use 2 consumers, in Eso the combat right now looks like left click left click left click left click left click and occasionally use skill 1 I trust this will improve )
Originally posted by Troveaholic The five funcom fans still left in the world are clicking theor buttons a lot. In all seriousness I don't know anyone who play a TSW.
And because you don't personally know anyone who plays, by extension no one else on the planet plays, right? Nice to know your group of friends comprise the entire gaming population, bub.
1) TSW devs are spamming emails with the link to vote -> LIE
2) TSW shop turned into a Pay To Win shop -> LIE
So I'm just waiting for the next time you'll make yourself ridiculous
you have forgotten to mention that supposedly we are making accounts here en-mass and casting multiple votes which as far as I know only the site admins would know for sure (I have not tried to do this so I have no idea if it is possible or not) and someone earlier posted that when they tried to make another forum account here from the same IP (for a family member in the same house) the accounts were banned until they contacted the site admin and explained the situation ((although this is an unverified anecdote from an earlier unconfirmed time) as only the site admins really know how the site is setup and I am not interested in playing around with multiple account shenanigans just to find out whether it can or cannot be done))
Ciritty summed things up quite nicely on page 7 of the ESO forum thread:
But sadly his post was immediately misconstrued as saying "we know both sides are cheating" when he was actually saying "we honestly don't know if people are cheating or not, but factoring in human nature on the internet, it would not be terribly surprising to find out that some misguided people had or had attempted to cheat". His statement was not an admission of guilt, merely a perspective on human nature on internet forums.
All in all I am happy for the exposure all the games have had with this fun little contest and although I am still hoping TSW can mount a comeback, I am still happy with how far we have managed to come and wish all the best to all the titles in the upcoming year. Myself personally, I will not be taking up my workmates offer to use his account and pay a few months sub of ESO to check it out because I really enjoyed Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim and from what I have read ESO is not very similar to them. In all honesty, I have been spoiled by the TSW community (because most of them are so friendly, helpful and fun to socialize with) and the representatives of the ESO community that I have seen sofar in this thread and on the ESO forums honestly come across as the kind of people I do not want to waste time associating with.

I think what Bill means is that while he enjoys LotRO a bit more due to his fantasy geekiness, he still feels that Eve Online is the better game, hence why he voted for it.
I think LotRO's lorebook beat it to market (barely)?
Makes perfect sense, while LotRO will win the popular vote, EVE is by far the superior MMORPG.
Bill correctly recognizes the genius behind it all, even if he doesn't really care for it.

And because you don't personally know anyone who plays, by extension no one else on the planet plays, right? Nice to know your group of friends comprise the entire gaming population, bub.

2) TSW shop turned into a Pay To Win shop -> LIE

you have forgotten to mention that supposedly we are making accounts here en-mass and casting multiple votes which as far as I know only the site admins would know for sure (I have not tried to do this so I have no idea if it is possible or not) and someone earlier posted that when they tried to make another forum account here from the same IP (for a family member in the same house) the accounts were banned until they contacted the site admin and explained the situation ((although this is an unverified anecdote from an earlier unconfirmed time) as only the site admins really know how the site is setup and I am not interested in playing around with multiple account shenanigans just to find out whether it can or cannot be done))
Ciritty summed things up quite nicely on page 7 of the ESO forum thread:
http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/143641/the-great-mmo-face-off-of-2014-semi-finals-eso-vs-the-secret-world/p7
