ESO easily for me...even before the justice system is in game.

This basically creates a huge circlejerk against the game and gives the impression to the people that haven't really played it that the game sucks.

The truth though, is that when you actually compare ESO to other MMOs, it's just on another level in terms of raw quality. The scale of the zones, the exploration sense it gives, the combat system, the freedom of choice in terms of building your character the way you want, the big scale PvP, the fact that every single NPC in the game is voice acted, questing not being just a "Kill 10 rats" thing, developers that communicate with the community and take feedback seriously, etc. Also the thing that will make this game become huge in the future: Zenimax isn't afraid to add game changing systems to their game. The justice and champion systems will basically make ESO feel like an entirely new game, and that's really a breath of fresh air on an industry where companies like Blizzard keep making 50$ expansions that basically add a couple zones and a few new bosses, but the essence of the game is always the same, they are afraid to innovate.

Now, I've played TSW for a couple months, and it's a GREAT game, but to me it felt more like a single player game in the sense that I only wanted to play it because of the storyline, I didn't care about anything else (most likely because I hated the combat). It's a more niche game for sure (which isn't bad).

My vote goes for ESO but I won't be sad if TSW wins, both are great games. That said I don't understand why LoTR is winning that hard against EvE, to me there is no doubt EvE is the better game.

Nice post Rayzoru -- I like your thinking.  I chose TSW because it's done something many MMOs haven't done recently, and that's try something truly new.  TSW added investigations to MMOs, but maybe more importantly it isn't afraid to make players think (really something MMOs have gotten away from with kill 10 rats quests, Questhelpers and !/? everywhere).  It's different and quirky, especially with the lore and storyline. It's just the right amount of difficult.

It went out with a class-free system, and while it uses some of the traditional MMO standards (the trinity. monster quests), almost everything has a twist to make it different and more engaging.  It's use of images at various stages of of the quest, the need to hunt for clues, and simply the need to really pay attention sets it apart from every MMO currently available.

I hear your points about combat and grouping, but TSW does have some pretty great group content -- the dungeons and raids are fun and challenging, and I honestly believe the lack of a traditional lobby-based random PUG generator (dungeon finder, etc) has made the community reach out to each other more and become tighter knit.

As regards combat, the real problem is that the game doesn't quite hold the player's hand enough in figuring out the deck and synergy system.  Understanding that all weapons abilities can be unlocked, that 2 weapons are optimal, and that creative powerful active/passive synergies is the key to creating a good build is something the community has had to pick up and explain to new players, but many become frustrated before that point.  I do believe the devs have expressed some interest in improving the new player experience to better explain combat.

All the best to all the teams in the finals!  :)

EVE > LOTRO for me, I've tried very hard to like LOTRO, but just can't. :(

TESO and TSW are both very unique, great and different games :S I'm badly in love with both,  It's imposible for me to decide.

  • OriousOrious Member UncommonPosts: 548

In the end, I'm surprised by LOTRO... Defeating EVE makes me thinkg defeating WoW was a rightful victory. That said,  EVE should feel proud to be PROOF that sandbox games can make it big.

TSW should be proud they've held up such a fight with a HUGE IP like ESO. ESO should be proud that it's missrepresented launch woes/review scores aren't defeating them.

ESO having a large playerbase than TSW is not really much of a surprise but yeah i am surprised as well that TSW loses like that.
    Didn't expect it.

The thing is, ESO has the ES fanbase to back him up. But TSW only got his core of lovers, and would benefit greatly from such an exposition. Way more than ESO ever would. I don't know shit about ESO but for what i heard from firends it looked really generic, so yeah, if you forgot the brand there is not much of a duel between them.
  • TzunnyTzunny Member UncommonPosts: 5
Well ESO is more actual/current & that might do it , TSW from 2012.. we lost many players since then but still active.

    Noone is lost.

Everyone that has bought TSW still has complete access to everything in the basegame, including the current Christmas events.

Fire up TSW and come join in the madness :D

Just voted for ESO (at 50.8%). If it was ESO vs AoC, I would have given the vote to AoC. The immersion factor was the reason why I voted for ESO over TSW.

I did assume that because leeux said, I quote: "I looked at the Funcom's store and it's 29.99 Euros, ATM." And yup that's true.

Sorry about the confusion! (And the late reply, just came back after sleep)

I just went to the Funcom page looking for the buy option and that's what they offered me. Maybe there's the option to change the default currency before buying, but I just assumed it's because they're located on Europe, right?

As for myself: I'm in south america, though. In Argentina, specifically.

Don't know the "reasons" why the game is hidden from me on Steam, but I'm sure if it wasn't, I'd have known about it before this time. I have almost 50 titles on my Steam library as of now, and I'd surely have bought TSW if I saw it on offer after I saw it in this face off.

Have a great holiday season, everyone!

Best wishes to all, and even if ESO loses this contest, I'll be happy since I see TSW as a great game too.

And thank you to all that replied!

Keep in mind, there are legions of people who are against ESO because they are fans of the single player series and wanted this game to fail since day one. Same for the legions of WoW players who felt the same when many guildmates were bailing for ESO. This group are vehemently against this game to such a point, they vote it down at every measure.

The same can't really be said for TSW since for the genre, the game is a relative unknown. It isn't much competition and isn't in the spotlight so it won't achieve the grandeur and equally so, the reciprocating effect that ESO is feeling.

I have played TSW with a blood/chaos/blade build and the end game is lacking, graphics are more 2008 instead of 2012. Story is fine but both games have good stories, however, most of the community power through content and tend to neglect it. The skillsets and abilities are generic as many of them aren't vastly different from the next.

Both games are good, but in terms of scope, wide varieties and ways to play, as well as having a future, it has to go to ESO. The player base is still a bit too large for my taste but zones aren't packed and overcrowded since the megaserver places you with the appropriate number of people.

TSW still has a core group of very vocal and overzealous people. I wasn't surprised to see that group push for this game as hard as they did. It's their right, but in the end, I honestly have to go with ESO, this competition shouldn't have been this close honestly, not after seeing the full scope of both games.

Putting a note on the launcher is perfectly acceptable according to the vote author as posted in post 35 of this thread.

Only two people posted that dev involvement were a bad thing done by FC and one of those realized it was not being done and apologised.

This isn't a big deal. Regardless the result it has been super exiting and nothing is decided yet!

They are both guilty of promoting their product but as is their right. All this does is allow the proper size of the playerbase from voting. As was said by the official OP, this is only a disqualifying factor if they offered rewards for voting which they are not.

Like I said though, this is more than appropriate since it keeps this vote from being hidden for all but the overzealous of fans trying to push their opinions.

I don't think they should be disqualified because I don't see any rules saying this is not allowed...

Anyway, they're still commenting, on their forum, that our devs sent an email on the 24th and made a topic on the forums. Which is bullshit, they did neither.

I was just poking fun at people, I stopped taking this serious ages ago. There is nothing wrong with a company putting this in their game launcher. ;)

They are well withen their rights to promote it in their launcher, I just find it deliciously hilarious that there were people making unfound accusations that TSW JUST HAD to be cheating with a secret email list to get their numbers :D

All this talk about TSW being a small group of hardcore players. I loved the game and didn't believe it. But after a month of playing, it really is just a small group of people who are trying really hard to push this game.

I wish it was able to deliver, I really did with my hammer elemental build but it became a grind in the end and not a fun one at that. I then noticed the group of players who were most vocal and I see them here after reading the comments.

I voted for TSW up until this round, but I'm starting to regret my earlier votes after finally giving in and playing ESO earlier this month. I hated the game because we didn't want a TES MMO, but if it wasn't for 6 of my friends playing, I probably would have kept roaming for new MMO's after my TSW experience.

TSW fans, there's nothing wrong with the game, but I feel the vocal few scream about it a little too hard and push to gain a better population just a bit too much.

ESO is no joke and for that reason alone, I see it winning this one. I can't ignore that fact alone.
