A lot of people who have researched and looked into the features and aspects of Vanguard will know that it will be one of the best MMORPGs out there for its genre, the amount of content is unbelievably large. What i want to know is if you all really think this game will get up there with WoW, EQ2 and the other top games. Personally i hope the success of Vanguard never stops until it is
#1.

It won't surpass WoW in numbers, but it will definately be a better game.
Blizzard just has too many fans from Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft series as well as the casual gamers.
i agree with the above two posters combined, vanguard should easily surpass eq2 and beat it into submission. but wow will still be wow, and will always attract the casual player.

WoW may be on the way out. It is just to static and without content. You just grind up and get bored. Once its graphics are a couple years old it will be over. It has little to offer.
I really hope Vanguard delivers what it is advertising. Some of the features to be implemented seem a little contrived but it deffinately has potential. I really like seamless worlds and actually having to travel. This provides diverse markets which is vital to a cooperative economy. I'm not sure if they have PvP solved, but I don't know a lot about it.

If a new game exceeeds 100k it is considerded a success. Anything more than 250k and it will be an amazing success. It will never get close to WoW's 5.6 millon. While it may or may not take some of WoW's players measuring it to WoW is not fair. Its a game being directed at a different audience. If it was being designed to appeal to casual gamers and the mass market most of the people who have been following this game for many years would be vey upset. Its a game being designed for experienced players who want the challenge put back in games. This is not a game that is being designed for the mass market. I for one would be very sad if Vanguard turns oput anywhere near as successful as wow as it would likely mean we would end up with a community just as horrible as WoW's.
It might cause EQ2 many problems. Many people are hoping that Vanguard will be what they hoped for in EQ2. Many EQ2 guilds are planning to move to Vanguard if it turns out to be as good as they expect. It would not suprise me if Vangurd essentially killed EQ2 which might be the reason EQ2 is releasing another expansion this month. Maybe they are trying to cash in one more time. I can't say I think EQ2 is a bad game but I can't say its a good game. Everything in EQ2 seems to be so poorly done and randomly thrown in like they never had a plan. The game just lacks any soul or vision. So much of EQ2 is stolen and copied from other games it would not suprise me if they took a lot of Brad's ideas and just put them in the game with no idea how to implement these ideas. In theory a lot of the ideas of EQ2 are similar to many proposed for Vanguard. Vanguard on other hand while many of its ideas are similar seems to be the anti-EQ2 in that it has a vision, a master plan and hopefully a soul. Rather than being like EQ2 and just randomly throwing a game together they have an actual plan for how everything should work and compliment each other. The Vanguard vision to me is the most exciting think about the game and why it may cause EQ2 a lot of pain.
i doubt vangard will top WoW, everyone who plays WoW thinks of this game as an EQ clone or something and hates it, majority of population of mmorpger's is with WoW atm too.
I can see this game becoming very successful (compared with everything that happened after GW/WoW/EQ2)
i doubt i will play it, i want some skill in a game, not gear/levels/skills that take time or have levels of skills (dont flame me, im just using stuff i hear from posts)
?played: Nearly everything.

Microsoft is a good publisher who knows how to advertise their products correctly and Vanguard seems to be a solid game. I think it will have a significant success, but I doubt if it'll manage to reach as high a subscription number as WoW.
Currently playing:
* City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
* City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.
I agree with you there, im guessing VG will have around 300k-400k subs to start.. maybe more but nothing compared to Wow
Wow has a lot of elements that appeal to the Anime/Asian flare that allowed it sucess over seas. Vanguard is a very traditional Euro-feel High Fantasy ala-Tolkien. It will definitely be a success and it is the style I prefer but it probably will not be overly popular without the huge swords, shoulderpads and cartoony humorous look of WOW. Check out how Xbox 360 fared over seas and it's lack of Final Fantasy styled RPGs.
As others have already stated WOW also had an established fanbase who knew the lore from the RTS games. No other game I can think of will surpass 5 million for a long time.
I actually think that a 5 million subscriber game isn't healthy for the enviroment anyway. I like the idea of games catering to people's wants instead of trying to please everyone. Some desire intensive PvP, some extreme role playing, some more challenge, some simplified soloability etc etc. Many successful 500K games that cater to these niches would be a much happier situation to me.

try more like in the range of 100,000 subscribers on release at max.
Bet it has more like a quarter million (or more) at release.
Hopefully it will never reach the numbers WoW has. Way too many d00ds and plat farmers required in order to reach those kind of numbers.
They are two games that appeal to two different type of gamers. WoW is more casual with some hardcore aspects. Focuses on questing and can be solod all the way to max level. V:SoH is going to focus on bringing back the old EQ feel, if you will. Grouping and it will be a challenge to level and so on. I don't think it will top it by any means but it is certainly more appealing to me then WoW. I played WoW and it just seemed to simple to me. Also Blizzard has a huge fanbase and having the focus on more of the casual gamers appeals to so many people that weren't into MMO's before WoW. But I don't think that any game will top WoW for quite a while.

VG has half that amount just registered to their forums, try again.

So? Do you have to pre-order the game to register ?
i think he is saying that since half that amount is registered on the forums alone there will be alot more than `100k overall playing the game...i could be wrong though lol

Vanguard hasn't even been very highly marketed yet so having 50k people signed up at the forums is pretty damn good. I would figure atleast 2/3 of those 50k will get the game.

No, it will not top WoW.
WoW is a very casual-friendly game - and that is the way to go in this industry to get big subscriber numbers.
Most people are simply not willing anymore to waste their lives over computer games.
Who's to say it will not top WoW? WoW may have a large player base, but IMHO it is a very poor game. WoW is EverQuest pre-luclin re-created. It will slowly decay just as EQL did. Sure they can keep adding xpac after xpac to keep SOME of their fans hooked for 6 years; but eventually it will flop. Vanguard was made for players who are looking for something different in a game. It has it's own game-type. For gamers like me, this game will top WoW. If you look at the gaming market there's not as many "non-casual give me something new" gamers as there are casual gamers. Nor are there games to introduce a new game-type such as Vanguard.
Please allow me to answer your question wih a simple,,,,yes.. Many of us ex EQ vets have been following Vanguard even before WOW and EQ2 were announced.. Even before I bought WOW and EQ2 last year,I knew I'd leave both game for Vanguard.. Personally,I think alot of ppl currently playing WOW and EQ2 will most definitely try out Vanguard when the game goes live..
Its the MMO I've been waiting for since my fun days playing EQ started to become,,not so much fun anymore,,,,

Do you not know anything?
Out of all the people who will buy an mmo, how many of those do you think actually posted on the game's prerelease forums? Relatively few. The number of posters on the forums is almost always much lower than the mmo's subscriptions post-launch.
But will VG top WoW? Hell no. That's like asking if Sublime could ever top Britney Spears.
I think whether or not Vanguard has a chance to top WoW can be more easily answered once we have a better idea of how "casual friendly" Vanguard will be.
I've done a bit of research on the game myself, but probably not nearly as much as many of you. From what you've seen so far, do you think Vanguard will cater to the growing Casual Market very well?
