For eight years, Chris Kluwe was one of the most controversial players in the NFL But he’s also been a life-long gamer, and a huge fan of World of Warcraft and League of Legends. Today, he’s probably better known as one of the leading pundits against the GamerGate movement. In this wide-ranging interview, MMORPG.com contributing columnist Morgan Ramsay spoke with Kluwe at length about whether esports are real sports, the state of GamerGate, and what's next for him after football.

Oh look Chris is declaring #GamerGate is over again.
I guess thats why r/KotakuInAction is still gaining members and and has multiple ethics violation threads to be researched each day.
I guess thats why deepfreeze.it has multiple ethics violations updates each week.
Why Jen Frank just got caught for promoting a game without disclosing she was the voice actress for it.
Why Nathan Grayson just got caught again for reviewing the games of his friends without disclosing their relationship.
#GamerGate isn't over by any means, its just grown past outrage and is in full on watchdog mode now.
As for harassment? LOL really, you're still trying to push that schtick. Dude Twitter's partners in the feminist organization Women Action Media released their report on GG last month. Remember? The report that said less than 0.66% of Twitter users affiliated with GG had ever sent a harrassing tweet.
Sorry Chris but if there has been any significant harassment its been from your side. Hell your buddy Randi Harper, CEO of the Online Abuse Prevention Network and programmer for Women Action Media's ggautoblocker has spent the last 72hrs prolifically harassing Anne Rice (Interview With A Vampire).
Or what about the fact the FBI and DHS disclosed the only verifiable and actionable threat since the beginning of GG was the bomb threat called against the GGinDC meet up.
Or Brianna Wu who just got eviscerated for lying in her article at TheMarySue about a District Attorney refusing to investigate harassment against her; only to have that DA release a public statement that she never once contacted his office or law enforcement.
Sorry Chris. I don't think you're a bad guy, but you're seriously on the wrong side of history here. Please, stop letting yourself be used by these professional Patreon victims.
EDIT: According to Anne Rice's Facebook, Leigh Alexander (Anti-GG Fired from Gamasutra) is now also attacking Ms. Rice.
Well I never heard of this guy before but I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. I definitely agree with him in some respects although I look forward to getting out of work today and taking a look at some of the video's posted like the gamergate debate and what not.
Not familiar with his NFL career but enjoyed hearing his views on the esports question and how they relate to other sports. Great Read.
Surprising to see Chris Kluwe on here and even more to see him talk about standing against harassment. A supporter of GamerGate posted this to Chris Kluwe after Kluwe's expletive riddled rant against gamers who supported GamerGate: https://archive.is/vGz0H The result was days and days of Kluwe's supporters harassing him: http://tweetsave.com/cainejw/status/525852499828162562
Here he is harassing a trans person because she supports GamerGate: http://tweetsave.com/chobitcoin/status/550015412708966400 and https://archive.is/N6oJi and https://archive.is/nqpjf and http://tweetsave.com/chobitcoin/status/550016693116739584
But then again, what can we expect from someone who has no authority whatsoever to talk about harassment and morality: https://archive.is/ubfcI He had been insufferable to his teams, allegedly even walking around in the changing rooms with a hole cut in the back of his pants making jokes about the Penn State child sex abuse scandal.
Here he is trying blacklist TotalBiscuit: https://archive.is/3GKxH Not to mention his harassing of Mark Kern, siccing his followers onto him and calling him all kinds of things on Twitter such as "fecal toad" iirc.
Here he is siccing his followers onto CloudFlare: http://tweetsave.com/chriswarcraft/status/554694942124019713 Notice the Twitter handle he uses there. He changed it to Warbutts in solidarity with a prominent anti-GamerGate twitter troll who is a self admitted pedophile: https://archive.is/7HkOx , and who also allegedly runs a piracy site.
I wonder why MMORPG did not ask such a reprehensible human being about his actions but let him spew his lies about gamers?
Anyway, just click on the video interview linked in the article to see how this guy handles an "adult" debate.
This could end up being very interesting.
So true, so freaking true.

Esports is a misnomer. It has zip to do with sports. His explanation is laughable at best. This guy needs to add the suffix "less" to the end of his name.
What? How?
I thought this was really something coming from an actual athlete as opposed to a gamer. While I consider esports - esports and sports - sports, I think what he says makes a lot of sense. I believe that esports should be the same but different in terms of actual sports.
In terms of "Physical" requirements of esports, sitting in appropriate posture for extended periods of time, wrist durability, and other things people completely overlook when they say it isn't a real sport. Playing these games for hours IS physically taxing, but at the time you are not "getting in shape" by playing games, so that is why I don't consider them sports.
And then there are strictly games: MMOs are games, chess is a game, poker is a game.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Well, in all fairness, he makes a much more compelling argument for why it IS a sport than you do for why it ISN'T a sport. *yawn* oh, what? Another "BAH it's not a sport!!!" comment. The effort to copy and paste a dictionary definition must have been too much. Lazier than an eSports player.

My first impression of the guy: what a douche. It's very clear that he's the type to jump onto any moral crusader bandwagon that he can get on and get himself into the spotlight.
Things must be really slow in MMO land that it has come this kind of coverage on mmorpg.com. =/
Maybe all those doomsayers are actually onto something. xD

Reading some of the other comments and looking at that video I do not know why you interviewed this guy, he talks about casual online misoginy but in the video he seems to have no respect for this woman, he keeps interupting her and laughing at her while she's speaking instead of politely waiting, how is this guy fighting for morality again?
Also looking into his professional standing it seems like he was mediocre at best at what he was doing (A punter in the nfl)
If anyone watching the NFL and has insight on it can provide a better understanding and an interpretation of the statsplease go ahead, anyway here they are.

Please don't ever interview this person ever again, this is a joke
That's exactly what I saw there. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was true that he tried to stick a bunch of internet trolls on her because she refused to back whatever cause of the month he wanted her to back, given his attitude on that video.

Ok, so now sitting on you arse in front of a computer is a sport? eSports are no more mentally taxing than a good game of chess or a long night of poker. I am anticipating that sitting in front of a TV flicking channels will be the next activity to be considered a sport.
This is not to say that eSports do not require skill and ability, because it does, and an enormous amount of it. But not everything requiring skill and ability is a sport. You need physical dexterity, reaction time, rhythm etc., to play a piano, a guitar, or any of a myriad of other musical instruments. Does that make playing instruments a sport? Let's not get carried away.
So shooting, archery, pool, horseback riding, hunting, golf, all not sports? I'm sure I could go on, but why? Unfortunately the definition of "Sport" is defined waaaaaay too broadly to make any sort of meaningful determination. By definition, eSports is a Sport. For clarity, though, I'd prefer if eSports remained labelled that way. As mentioned, also, ESPN has covered waaaay worse than eSports, so maybe Colin Cowherd should just pack it in right now.

Are these shooters, archers, pool players, horseback riders, hunters, and golfers laying on their couch in front of a computer or console gaming device, with a controller or mouse in one hand and a beer and chips in the other, playing a video game? If so, they are playing a game about the sport, not engaging in the sport.
See the difference?
Let me simplify it further for you. The mere fact that you have an "e" in front of the word is enough to says it all. It's an eSport, not a Sport.
Someone needs to get a kluwe.
Eh? Eh?

"eSports" are being recognized by Olympic committees as "real sports". The Korean Olympic Committee has recognized eSports as a 2nd Level sport, similar to auto racing and chess. The U.S. gov't has allowed professional eSports players to be classified as Professional Athletes. ESPN is televising (poorly) eSports as well. These people and groups are far more qualified than you (or I) to determine what qualifies as a "real sport".
Professional eSports players need to be physically fit as well, since it impacts their game play. So no, they are not sitting on their couches eating potato chips. You're making a false distinction there anyway, comparing non-professional hobbyists with professionals.
This guy was all over the local morning show in MN.. 93X. I have heard his views up and down and all his slips revealing himself as well. Dude is a pure hipster fueled give me a cause to promote spokesperson.. who has certainly accomplished more in life than me.
.. but I still don't like him, and hardly consider him a gamer. He remembers gaming and loving it, but since then his wife has reprogrammed him and is full control. Slowly dismantling his self respect with each photo shoot, and his free thinking with each new cause.
I would like him to tell me the last time he loaded up on frozen pizza and mountain dew and played the hell out of game because he loved it. No, he is just what you see now.. a man making someone else's points.
How dare gamers insist that the people reviewing their products be unbiased and ask for transparency from these hacks claiming to be "journalist." The antiGG community just picked a small number of GG supporters, mostly trolls, and used them as their shield against the very serious claims that a game dev was sleeping with the people reviewing her content and her boss.
Also as for everyone who plays gamers being a gamer, fine. However, there is very clearly something different from a casual movie goer and a film aficionado who has studied film, and has seen more that just the big name summer block busters. Not saying one is better or worse. I'm just saying my interest in games as a media expands much further than playing Candy Crush on the toilet.
Oh he was a punter. So he wasn't an athlete.
