Lol i said the same thing last year. They don't have to release until they get tired of all the money coming in.

Think on this for a minute or two. It took over 5 years, and 500 million, for a triple A studio to launch Destiny.

I personally have not spent one cent on  SC yet, but I do find their development speed,  the way they constantly interact with the community to be quite impressive.

If your not happy, sell your stuff and move on. No one forced anyone here to pitch in on this game. So there is absolutely no reason to come here and complain about it.

So many people have such an "self entitled" air to themselves these days.

This isn't for the OP of this thread btw. You had a legit question, but a question that has already been answered many times.

Now for a realistic timeline, looking at all of the games I have seen launch in the past, and the current state of SC from what I have read.

Open beta PU, late 1st quarter, early to mid 2nd quarter 2016.

Official launch: heh, not even going to try to guess that.

The PU Beta will most likely bring a ton of problems for the game.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but that doesn't mean that we should spread so much negative crap all over the forums, especially when its not even justified.

Agree with the guy above. It's not like they are stating that the game is releasing soon. We all know about the trashy MMOs that releases too early and fails.. Let them work in their phase and make it good.. MMOs are not completed in a day.. Just sayin.

Add about two years to whatever their last estimate was.   Well for a real working version.  Roberts has these grand vainglorious visions that have little to do with the practical design.  He has ouverpromised and underdelivered pretty consistently.  Only this time there will not be a conveniant corporate fall guy.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

It's not so crazy when you think about how things have gone for CIG.  It started as an indie project looking to create a new Wing Commander with a persistent world Freelancer tacked on (similar in scope to Elite: Dangerous), and grew into a full fledged studio developing a AAA game.  Chris Roberts has been pretty transparent about the whole process too.  Another couple of major parts of the game will be out later this year.  5 years development isn't very far off to develop a game of this scope and size, especially considering they co-developed the engine (could be wrong about this one. I may have misunderstood that comment), and built the studio from scratch.

Bottom line is this: There will definitely be a time where the rubber has to meet the road, and CIG must be held accountable for promises made, but I don't think we're there yet.  If there's no progress by this time next year, then yeah, I agree.  Toss me a pitchfork, I'll call the boys, and we can have us a good ol' fashioned lynchin'!

As for all of the ships that are being created, I don't really have an answer.  I'm not a developer, and don't pretend to have much insight into how a studio is run, but it seems to me that the bulk of that work would rest solely on the shoulders of the art team.  I imagine the size of that team has grown considerably since this project started which has made it possible for all of these new ships we see cranked out.

LOL I dont get how people are still throwing money at these hustlers.

Shows how little the average gamer knows about game development.  I love hearing from people that comment on things they know little to nothing about.

Just because you know how to drive a car doesn't mean you know a damn thing about getting one from the design board to production.  How long it should take, or how much money it should cost.

So laugh it up it just makes you look silly.

    No disrespect but, FANBOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII :)

So, do you have anything in your repertoire other than witless ad-hominems?

I haven't contributed a cent to Star Citizen, nor do I intend to until the game is live. That does not mean people that choose to are foolish or fanboys.

Ugh, people like yourself with that childish, dismissive, and arrogant attitude are what gives MMO gamers / communities a bad reputation.

Well. I hate to say it,op,but since work has gone on so long,vr will have to be added in also as a part of this magnum opus .I mean why not ? , all kinds of things have already been promised and feature-creep has long ago been adopted by CR as part of the family, so there is no reason to not also make star citizen compatible with a virt. real. system. Sadly for you, mate,  this will add a few more years 'til release day, hang-in there.

Guess the VR was already in the plans long ago. They were waiting for the last version of Cryengine (3.7 I think) for begin to implementing it.

And don't worry. As there are several studies advancing a module each, the work of one don't delay the others. They just keep adding things in the meanwhile.

Anyway, don't expect the game before 2017. CIG it's not very good with dates but they won't give a bad product for the gold. There's thousands of alpha and betatester helping and I don't think CIG would miss the chance to do a good launch. They already have the example of Elite Dangerous, that doesn't matter how much you improve a game after the release. The bad press about the first days of the game still hurt months or even years later.

  • mgilbrtsnmgilbrtsn Member EpicPosts: 3,430
Haven't bought into this one, but I hope that it turns into something.  A lot of people have spent some speculative money into this one.

What bad press? The press was actually quite favourable to the game since most reviewers saw the potential in the game.

As do most of the players playing it.  Even the exaggerated "no-offline" fiasco, they still managed to sell ~600k copies which is great numbers for a niche old-school-feel game.

It's a unique experience if you're into space sims not to mention it's THE  VR experience right now.

Sure it has a limited features compared to what it's going to be in a few years time, but it's already very fun to play imho.

    ..Cake..

VR support was already included in the original Kickstarter campaign Nov 2012. So, talking about VR support is not feature-creep but working on one of the original design goals.

This is clearly a bait post.

@OP: All the info you can possibly need regarding SC is available on robertsspaceindustries.com and then some. Developer posts, videos, crowdfunding status. Plus monthly and weekly reports where the devs explain to the backers what they're working on and lay down their progress.

I suspect the entertainment I get from threads such as this will be greater than any joy at playing this game.

How long did GTA V take ? 5+ year

How long did SWTOR take? 5+ years

    SC is in year 3.

Add two more years.  There is your answer.

This game will launch with a truckload of content and you can´t just throw budget into a content converter and be done with it, only in the fantasy of people who don´t know what an epic task it is to create a complete living universe.

350 people are working their butts off every day to make it happen.

Roberts is notorious for going way over budget and past deadlines only to turn out a fraction of what he promised. I expect this to be exactly the same only on a 100 million dollar scale. I will give him credit though he is a great salesman because he has literally sold millions of dollars of nothing but pictures of space ships to stupid nerds who have nothing better to do with their money apparently.

Start Citizen is the 1st AAA game developed without the financial support of a giant game company like EA, is just the most ambitious space sim or Pc game ever developed, It would not be possible without the backers support, otherwise, it would be in the hands or EA, as an example, and never be the game we all have been waiting.

Can you elaborate on "sold millions of dollars of nothing but pictures of space ships to stupid nerds.." ?

Because i can board the ship i bought, sit in the cockpit, interract with stuff, step into it's compartments. Oh, i cal also fly it in Arena Commander.

As long as people keep spending ridiculous money on pre-release ships why would they release it? Keep cashing in, good business model.

Just because the one you bought it available does not mean they all are, many were just concept art. And pretty petty of you to report this. This website caters to people like you though. Suppose you will tattle on me too....

But aside from that at least 2 years as someone else mentioned seems reasonable.  I don't think it will be finished but they have to get something out by then or they are going to lose traction and patience with people who have stood by this game.

Elite has been out for a while now and who knows where that game will be in 2 years.

And selling might be the thing to do, so I can see the game in my lifetime.   At least the full game, anyway.

Surely they have developed 'Hypersleep' like in the Alien movies, maybe you can buy it from their website and set it to 2025?

I been watching this game for a while, but wondering when they will release also. It looks really good. Is anybody actually in Alpha at the moment?
