Hey asshole, you don't have a FRICKIN clue what you are talking about. Numbers DID drop after they pushed the CU on us true that .... but it was their GREED for MORE money and a larger player base that they went to NGE. When NGE hit they lost 75% of the playerbase/accounts.

Casey Keefe:
We never have and never will comment in regards to subscriber and player numbers.
Finish the statement, Casey. Add the "We leave that to nervous SOE people who flame game site forums and claim 8k subs on ALL their Station Pass games combined."

Generally Im a believer in the basic principals of freedom of speech and allowing even obvious imbecils the courtesy of airing their opinions.
You however, have forced me to reconsider my enlightened attitude; and in your case, to deny you that.
It is obvious to me that you are either a plant or someone who doesnt even play the game and very likely never had.
If for example you believe the NGE leads to MORE roleplaying than pre-cu you are hopelessly deluded. It is patently impossible that a system with fewer player options and logical dependencies could lead to more role play than a superficially classless system with definate world inforced inter-player / disciplin dependancies.
Just the current control scheme is more hack-kneed than the old one, if you like the amphetemine fueled jitter movement you clearly accept something that is not even close to even the next worse control system in any game- anywhere.
SWG is a mess, SOE is a pack of thieves clueless at best, hopelessly misguided at the very least. LA is blissfully dilluded if they believe that the MMO community will ever forgive or forget what they have done.
SWG even if they manage to build a better game (HAHA) will die if for no other reason than the very basic principle of marketing. BAD WORD OF MOUTH will sink you.

Gooney, don't go so hard on him. He's just another victim-to-be. He doesn't understand that a lot of us were just like him once: clueless and in love. He'll come to understand in time, when it bites him just the way it bit us.
SWG really is a lot like a bad, cheating girlfriend. You know the kind. They sleep with your friends, lie to everyone and just generally make a hash of everything. No one ever believes the warnings. They never think it can happen to them. And they always believe that the bimbo is the victim of bad press. Right up until she does them the same way and they find themselves wondering why they didn't see it coming.
Eventually, SOE and LA will have burned too many customers with SWG and the game won't be able to draw in any new suckers no matter what they say or do. Just like the bad girlfriend. Eventually you run out of people who haven't heard about you.
Good interview. Finally, MMORPG.com seeks answers and doesn't just acquiesce in doing fluff pieces. Me likey!
On the other hand, this guy Keefe is a complete tool. Bad enough that SOE has lost any dev that had an ounce of talent and vision over a year ago, and now has a bunch of interns screwing things up, but they can't even find a mouthpiece that knows you never, ever say "No comment" in an interview? What a bunch of morons.
No comment...... /ROFL, Looks like they are just pushing more of the same F the community attitude they have always had.
I played this game when it first came out. I had a copy and got 2 copies for my kids. We had great fun with it, we are all big Star Wars fans and although it had alot of bugs it was a fun game.
It started going downhill when they removed the Jedi TEF. What happened was, if a Jedi used their powers, and another player saw them, then they got a TEF and were attackable for 5 minutes.
This was good and it limited the Jedi population. There were people playing all kinds of characters and Jedi were few and far between (as it should be in the SW timeline it was set in)
After they removed the TEF, it allowed Jedia characters to level to master much more quickly.
What we wound up with then was more and more Uber Jedi running around, you basically couldn't kill them and they could easily kill any other class. I know that Jedi are supposed to be uber powerful, but in an MMO if you have one class that rules all others, eventually the majority of the players will play that class. Then you effectively have one viable class and all the others are relegated to being second class.
While all of this was going on, SOE was making changes to the game, change this, nerf that, but they really didn't spend much time on the more serious bugs, things like, throwing poisions through walls, shooting through hills. Also little time was spent on improving existing content, but instead they added in instance here or a dungeon there. It was pretty funny to get a mission that said "Go to this base, and destroy it. When you got there, the "Base" was a little square box on the ground with 3 or 4 NPC's standing around it.
They also released this game way too early. When released the game had no vehicles, no mounts, and no space shipts.
"You mean this is star wars, on futuristic planets and cities, and I have to walk everywhere?"
Then the Holocrons came *shudder*, people camped certain mobs to get the all valuable holocron. It told you what proffessions you needed to grind to get to Jedi. This did two things. It greatly increased the camping of certain mobs and it also again increased the number of Jedi on the server.
While all this was going on SOE made promise after broken promise. They promised to fix combat imbalances, they promised to fix poison issues, after two years of waiting for promised fixes we just got more nerfs and more changes the community did not ask for, but the bugs remained.
In some cases the community would cry out "No don't put that change in", but the devs either because they were hampered by management issues, or just didn't care continued to ignore their paying customers.
I have played many MMO's over the last several years. My first was UO, currently I play EVE and WoW. I have to say I have never felt so ripped off by an MMO (and I've played quite a few). It also made me vow (as someone else did above) to never give SOE another cent of my money. After repeatedly saying "They will fix that in the next patch" and not getting bug fixes, but instead getting game breaking changes, I say these guys took a potentially good thing and completely screwed the pooch.
I went back a few months ago to check it out, and the place is a ghost town. If you're lucky and you go to a big city, you _MIGHT_ see another player. Otherwise it's like a single player game.
From what I've read about the NGE, they basically screwed up the original game so bad, that they figured, hey let's rip it apart and start over.
From what I've read and heard from other players, unless they give everyone a years subscription for free, (and even then) they probably aren't going to convice very many (if any) people to come back. They had a chance to be one of the best MMO's out there, but the horse is gone and closing the barn door really won't do a bit of good now.
Most people I know who played the game have such a bad taste in their mouth from playing, they will never go back.
Anyway, as stated above, the game is pretty much dead and they will most likely eek along for some time on the name Star Wars, but all of the serious populations of MMO players will continue to avoid this like the plague and spend their time on more quality MMO's where the devs are responsive to the paying customers, games like WoW, and EVE. They are not perfect either, but at least the dev team makes an honest effort to listen to the paying customers and give them what they want.
MMORPG.com: We asked this before and the answer was no. However, today, Id like to re-submit it. Are there any plans for a classic server that runs an older version of the game? Casey Keefe:
No, and not for business reasons it is impossible in terms of technology and resources.
ROFL.. Yeah , But soon someone will come with an emulator So SOE you can PWMB!!null
Yep, nice catch. What's even more interesting is that when they do comment on numbers, it's always 'cooked' in some way. The 1 million units sold says nothing about retention, same with Torres' 200,000 added. You have to read between the lines with these people.
But let's give Torres the benefit of the doubt. How then to reconcile the leaked numbers with his statement? They've added 200k players who must then find the game so uncompelling as to not play it during prime time. They've replaced a stable player community (pre-NGE) with a more casual, less loyal player base.

If they setup a classic server with the old Pre-JTL SWG, including Jedi TEFT. Add a fix for the smuggler profession. Then apply JTL (with the bugfixes) ....then we will have back the best MMO ever still out there! graphically not the best for this time, but still the BEST Overall!
Because thats the way they should have followed and how 99% of the community wanted it to go Pre-JTL!
1. Apply update with grant Smuggler profession-fix.
2. fix the other groundgame issues.
3. make some minor combat balance fixes.
4. Then launch JTL, properly tested with less bugs.
And after that they should have started on the Galactic Civil War Content like they promissed back then! Then the game would have rocked and would have gone the path as it should have been!
But well ....thats just me (and all other VET players) dreaming I guess
------------------------------
And realy! If they follow the above steps and setup classic servers and go on from there the right way! Plus give a public appology to the SWG community that they screw up (say it like: We were sorry we took SWG down the wrong road ...or something like that). Then maybe tons of Vet players might return and give SWG another go!
It makes you a great MMO company if you listen to your paying subscribers! Listen to your community that pay your salaries!
But it will make you an even greater MMO company if you have the balls to admit when you did something wrong!
Ah, I remember when i read the SOE bull and got upset. It was so nearly a good game, sophisticated crafting, support profs, then the bit bland space stuff arrived which was kinda nice but no content. So we begged for content. Then they started fixing it... I've played and enjoyed City of Heroes/villains and moved onto WoW. Both lack the depth SWG once had but the devs are trying to help people to have fun rather than blame the people for not enjoying the game more. i watch the Wow forum cries of nerf X and giggle glad that the WoW boys n girls know only to alter a little and add a lot so we moan a bit in between our next battles with separate servers for the PvP uber killas so oldstas like me can tootle along on an RP server trying every char going cos they all have such interesting quirks.
If you are still playing SWG please try another game. for my tuppence EvE if you like space, crafting, complex slow evolving interactions and that whole frustration thing as you sit there hoping your plans are sound, CoV if you want to design the perfect character for you to jump about with blowing things (and people) up and Wow if ya love hitting gnomes and having a laff. EvE is doing a freebie at the moment CoV just got cheaper if you shop about and WoW... Well ok Wow still costs as much as when released but its so much fun. many others are great but these are my faves.
Remember you are paying to have fun so if like me you are addicted to the Star Wars experience and upset at how badly they keep getting it wrong lighten up and try summat else. took months to decide I really was gonna jump and minutes to realise i'd made the right choice.
Bless the SOE devs. They are trying so hard to prove learning from their mistakes is a bad thing but nobody will believe them, aw
While all this was going on SOE made promise after broken promise. In some cases the community would cry out "No don't put that change in", but the devs either because they were hampered by management issues, or just didn't care continued to ignore their paying customers.
These are the only important points any more.
SOE has REPEATEDLY made promises only to not bother to keep them. Corporate arrogance has been made into an artform by these people. They make a corporate policy of lieing to their customers, and don't even care how obvious it is.
With luck they'll end up as umemployment statistics.
I dunno what all the bitching is about on SWG. I played about a year ago and the game was the worst on the planet. After the changes it's a blast. Pick a class and go, no more skill system forcing ya to do something you don't want to. Nor more mobs doing x4 the damage I can do with the best weapon and skill I can find.
The game is FUN now. I don't get this obsession with tedious boring games being fun to some people but to each his own. I find the game much more enjoyable as does my son and friends. Had they not made these changes NONE of us would even bother to play the game again.

LMAO! You couldn't have picked a more worse moment to jump into SWG! SWG was one year ago in heavily bad shape because of the JTL expansion that corrupted half the groundgame! That was the moment when most of us left the game out of frustration and couldnt take any more nerf and the CU they had in mind!
When you started 2 years ago ...pre-JTL ... then you would have understand what they have done to this game now! How they completely ruined it!
Nice to see the SWG team has their heads so firmly planted up their butts they don't realize their game has died. How about just giving us back the game we want instead of trying to make the piece of crap NGE more resemble what we had?
Though this may be going against the grain, I still have faith in SWG. It has been my experiance, in my 10+ years of MMO gaming, that the most crucial aspect of developing a solid game is the Beta process. The developers can set up the basic groundwork and layout of the game, but they must be willing to make drastic changes based upon player feedback and the information they collect in Beta. The staff at SWG has certainly shown their willingness to experiment, expand, and rework the ailing issues that come up in their game. I, for one, am extremely excited to see what SWG will look like once its Beta stage is completed.
Originally posted by freebirdpat How hard is it to get 500k subscribers and lose them in 3 years?
Its only been done once by that special pack of morons SOE, but I can tell you this CCP the makers of EVE are loving the NGE. They just recently had to upgrade the servers due to all the new subscriptions from NGE refugees lol. Thrity percent jump in subscriber base in three months on a three year old game! I wonder were all those new subscribers came from?

ummmm.....errrrr.....beta?
this is the 2nd major revision that they have done to this poor game since release, both in the past year.
It's ashamed what SOE/LA did to that MMORPG. The communities were more vivid and enthralling that anything I've experienced since.
They should rename SOE Austin to "Will Slit Wrist for Food".
Just for the record SOE/LA, no one likes that twitch crap. If you believe in MMOFPS so darn much, put your money where your ideals are and change EQ2 over to twitch. Yeah... thought not.
You guys hit them with some good questions this time Lepidus, very nice work!

I remember before the first CU came out how full the servers were. No matter the time or day you would always find many people in the game. Back then you had the cantinas full as well as the bazaar area. Long lines waiting for buffs in many cities.
Once the first CU arrived, the servers were less full and the only place you'd see more then a few people was in Dantoonie. The only place to go was here. And hunting was done just with Pikets as the other creatures gace no real xp.
When the NGE came out, the servers were now ghosttowns. Nowhere could you find people. Places and cantinas that were once packed were completely emptied.
Ths complete overhaul of this game destroyed it. Never will SWH be the same as it once was.
The interviews such as this one given by SOE says nothing we don't already know. When asked if the nge content which is broken was to be fixed, the answer was, "no comment". All you need to know is right in these words of "no comment".

Recently, server population numbers circulated online that someone allegedly uncovered. Can you comment on the accuracy of these numbers?
Casey Keefe:
We never have and never will comment in regards to subscriber and player numbers
The truth on numbers - Casey lies like a rug:

and another referencing 1 million units being sold - tho I had 2 accounts and bought 2 copies:

These are the only important points any more.
SOE has REPEATEDLY made promises only to not bother to keep them. Corporate arrogance has been made into an artform by these people. They make a corporate policy of lieing to their customers, and don't even care how obvious it is.
With luck they'll end up as umemployment statistics.
edit spelling.

I, for one, am extremely excited to see what SWG will look like once its Beta stage is completed.

ummmm.....errrrr.....beta?
this is the 2nd major revision that they have done to this poor game since release, both in the past year.
(i hope you were in sarcasim mode there boss)
It's ashamed what SOE/LA did to that MMORPG. The communities were more vivid and enthralling that anything I've experienced since.
They should rename SOE Austin to "Will Slit Wrist for Food".
Just for the record SOE/LA, no one likes that twitch crap. If you believe in MMOFPS so darn much, put your money where your ideals are and change EQ2 over to twitch. Yeah... thought not.
You guys hit them with some good questions this time Lepidus, very nice work!

"What happened to you, Star Wars Galaxies? You used to look like Leia. Not quite gold bikini Leia (more like bad-British-accent-and-cinnamon-bun-hair Leia), but still Leia nonetheless. Now you look like Chewbacca." - Computer Gaming World
I remember before the first CU came out how full the servers were.
What a corporate tosser.
Ah well, this should get some life over on teh 'official' forums, they've kind of died down again after the P27 launch and P28+ previews...
Says a lot when folk are even getting tired of flaming the boards, lol.
