Seems some folks are getting far too comfy with this "F2P" trend. God forbid you have to pony up this time.
This looks like an awesome game and I'm betting it will be well worth $60. Eat in and bring your lunch to work for a week. Voila!
Dude if we paid $60 for every "here comes the next great game" we'd be flat broke and still wouldn't have a good game to play.....Like almost all in this genre just wait a short time and it will be available for free.
So you actually expect to pay for one game then get the next for free or something?
A developer makes a game. They then sell it. Been this way for decades. One game has nothing to do with the next one. Try paying for a dinner then expect the next to be free because that dinner wasn't the best you ever ate. See how far you get in life.
Companies don't make games as a social service for broke, entitled free loaders. Vote with your wallet. Companies owe you nothing.
You expect Blizzard to sell new games for free? You must be happy waiting over 10 years to play Wow to level 20 for free.
I imagine he will vote with his wallet, as will I.
I hate what F2P has done to the MMORPG genre. Hate it. I'd rather pay a box price and sub. But for an arena multiplayer only game: I'm not paying $60 either. Not worth it (to me). Even the Battlefield franchises spend the money to include a complete singleplayer campaign with a story (even if they aren't nearly as good at said singleplayer as CoD). I fell into this trap with Evolve, and I've regretted every cent I paid for that title at release. It was the first attempt at a AAA MOBA on consoles. And damn did it have production value (and a pretty cool idea for PvP). However, soon after launch it's fallen into obscurity, even without any other console arena shooters to really compete with its unique gameplay. And Evolve, even being basically an asymmetrical MOBA for consoles, has had the audacity to ask players for even more money on top of the $60 since launch (which I'm sure Blizzard would not shy away from one bit for a $60 Overwatch, either). Wonder why no one talks about that title anymore? When are the esport tournaments starting? They in preseason? Oh wait, it never gathered enough of a following for anyone to care.
For this to be worth that price, it'd have to have a rather outrageous amount of maps, heroes, game types, and equipment for said heroes. Otherwise, they're trying to sell you an FPS MOBA for the same price as TLoU or DA:I when it came out. I can clearly see a large difference in bang for my buck comparing those two games' feature sets.
And let's be real, the only reason they would even be considering the $60 price tag is due to the console launches. PC players haven't had to pay such bloated prices for every new title released in years (and certainly not arena multiplayer titles). Consoles are sticking to that archaic, rip-the-players-for-every-dime scheme because they, simply put, can. Folks buy CoD titles these days on the yearly. FPSs have finally found out how to scam folks out of their money over and over as hard as EA Sports games have been doing for years. So why wouldn't Blizzard wanna dip their hand in that cookie jar? I can't even blame them. But I won't be picking up a title that, by the looks of it, obviously isn't worth a $60 price tag just because it's got the name of a winter storm on the corner. No thanks.
I wont pay $60 for any game, ever. As much as I wanted witcher 3, I waited until it went on-sale. Picked it up for $41 the other day. I won't pay more than that for any game. If it means I have to wait a year to get it then so be it.
As far as this game, I wont ever be getting it since I don't care for these types of games. I have no problem though with blizz charging whatever they want for it. If you want to play it, pony up or find another game to play if you don't.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
I am amazed that this has a price tag, this is a F2P game all the way.
How the game currently is: 1: Choose a character 2: Get dropped into an arena 3: Try to kill as many people as you can 4: Repeat
If they expect people to buy this game they have to include a single player campaign or something else to do offline.

I agree. With TF2, it had an initial price tag only when lumped with The Orange Box collection (including HL2, HL2: Ep 1 & 2, Portal). That whole package was worth the price tag. Unless Blizzard does something like throwing Diablo III or SC2 collections into the box, this will just NOT be worth it.
Buying a game - or anything else - is a value call.
Blizzard have decided that Overwatch will be b2p and have put a $60 price tag on it. And new maps will probably have a cost as well.
People can decide whether the game - as it stands - is worth $60 to them. And buy the game or buy SW BF or ... or ... or ... and if they hold off the game will , probably, come down in price (maybe after Christmas.)
It looks like it might be somewhat "light on content" compared to other games - but maybe Activision Blizzard plan to offer big e-sport prizes to promote the game and are looking to cover those costs via the box price. Who knows!
How is this game going to work as F2P. What can they sell that would actually make money and not make it P2W. How many skins are people going to buy? LoL and those types of games can make crappy heros a dime a dozen.
kind of a bummer. I was hoping to play this for free like HotS. guess they have to make money somehow. $60 seems a bit steep. guess ill have to budget some funds for this.
Blizzard is getting into uncharted territories here(fps mp) thinking that their game will sell, even if it lacks features right now, just because it has the "Blizzard" tag attached to it. And you know what's the saddest part of the story is? People will actually bite. As people will bite with SW Battlefront, even tho that game also lacks a lot of features at launch, just because it's...you know.....Star Wars.
it's a 3d moba. in the vein of team fortress. how is it uncharted territory?
Most competitive fps are b2p. I'm not sure why people are shocked at this.
im shocket at the price tag. Its just a more colorful titanfall without minions and mechs. Full priced online only arena shooter. Its bound to fall flat if they dont adjust that price.
If they are smart they could do another WoW 1 year subscription promo like they did with diablo 3..... unfortunately for Overwatch, diablo had and still has more content so its probably not worth the promo in this case.... so nevermind lol

I figured Overwatch was going to be F2P where you buy heroes/skins from the cash shop as in League of Legends.
At this price the game won't have a sustainable playerbase. Of course later conversion to F2P is more than likely.

Did they not say it will be F2P game ?
Heh. They decided it will be 60$ game but with F2P monetizing system. Why not Blizzard ?
I mean you have to return 6 billion dollars some how ...
Seems some folks are getting far too comfy with this "F2P" trend. God forbid you have to pony up this time.
No its just this game looks like some cheap garbage next to Battlefront which is also multiplayer without single player campaign. I can see why Battlefront cost money but I dont with Overwatch.
Already keening its death knell with that price tag.
Gaming companies need to realize, people aren't going to be tossing money at games that look like the same games from yesterday. Not when there are FTP's doing almost the exact same things.
Of course even if it tanks Blizzard will be saying its the most popular game, EVAH! Except for WoW of course. Everyone loves WoW. Loves it we do. We do don't we?
No? That's what Blizzard tells us so it must be so!
The game will be f2p,this is more of a bundle like HOTS had it says shit like 21 hero and 6 costumes,so i need to pay for the game 60 $ and later buy costumes and the heroes which will get out after launch, lol blizz isn't that stupid, they want to make the game competitive, and the one game that you can buy and it's competitive is just CS GO and its like 10 $
Just like I said last week, Overwatch will fail worse than HotS. Blizzard should just stop trying to get into e-sports when they have the most unbalanced games for 10 years straight.
At this point I can only say that they are incredibly clueless. As a F2P and Cash-Shop they'd attract at least some whales. As a B2P game Overwatch won't even sell 1 mil copies, even the Blizzard fanboys are not interested in it. Why would anyone be, when there is at least a dozen of much better shooters on the market? (Oh and they don't cost 60€ for an Multiplayer Arena only).

Just because blizzard let players play a specific version, does not mean thats all it is.
