Does it not bother you that you are waiting for a publish to fix a profession that has been around for nearly 3 years????
There are only 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't
Originally posted by Kasias81 Eisley is bustling once again. Forums are getting more and more active. Every day more and more new and old SWG players are coming. Publish 27 has stirred more interest, and with each new publish the game will continue to rebound and improve. We all know about the NGE and its problems.. here are a few of my opinions: 1. Combat is much faster now, as it should be. Doesn't make sense for a blaster fight to last more than a few mins. 2. The community is still intact, veterans are around to help the new members, and with more people coming its only going to get better. 3. *With the new publishes coming out, the game is headed into the right direction, with a focus on the GCW, and serious effort going into each profession. 4. Next publish will bring tons more content to one of the most recognizable characters in the universe, the Bounty Hunter, with player bounties, and all new skills and abilities. I invite you to visit the official forums and check out Rogue 5's post on the future publishes, I think you'll like what you see for the future of SWG. Flame me all you want, I've been playing the game since beta, it was on life support for a good while there afte the NGE, but I see it coming back, slowly but surely. If you are tired of dwarfs, wizards, and all the other stuff that comes with the other MMOGs out there, I do invite you to come back to a galaxy far, far, away! *Takes out his fire extinguisher*- let's begin!
ARE YOU ON THE SOE PAYROLE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
sorry but this is bo""ocks i used a friends account last week and went on bria (was the server i played on from start) and its was dead still, and yes as i went to all the large hangouts i seen a few (no more than 20-30 in all the large starports combined0 but it was still bugged to hell im sorry but SWG is still not ready for bata testing 4 months on from the NGE as for player poulations still well down i spent 3-4 hours traveling around looking for people too very few and far between
STAY AWAY GUYS ITS NOT EVEN WORTH A MONTHS SUBS TO RETRY THE GAME AS IT STANDS
That is a very good post first off. No I dont think he is mental retard or anything, and I can understand what you mean in your post, but what I mean is that, its just a game thats all, your investing money and time into a situation were you have no control what so ever over the out come, and you know that before you go into it. If you cant seperate reality from a game then that is a huge problem and the reason why is becuase of this exact situation, the game does not beloing to you, so if they change it to what they want which is not what you like its going to have a major impact on your life, and I just think thats really sad to alow yourself to get wrapped up in something that can do this to you when you dont have any control or say as to how it should go in the first place. In real life you can control things about your life, in a game you can not.
Whannnnn Whannnnn dat is the sound of 20 year old babies
No not really it dont bother me at all, Its business but I am new to smuggling so I wasnt doing that before. To me its just a game and thats all, nothing more.
Whannnnn Whannnnn dat is the sound of 20 year old babies
I must agree that, at least Radiant server (where me and the original poster play), is getting a lot of new players since last pub. I mean a lot. It took a major uber hit with NGE but I know every day new players there. BTW spanish community there is rebuilding for real (some very nice vets still haven't retunren though /cry ). Also, I don't think SOE deserves to succeed, but at same time I wish the game to.
i remember when pretty much every main city with a starport in it had 50ish people in the cantina's those were good times.
i would come into town after a few hours of killing and being incaped and such then i would spen an hour in the cantina hangin out and getting my BF away thanks to the awsome music of the entertainers and dancers. then i would hop on over to the medical center and see about 10 or so people there waiting on the doctors for help.
i really do miss Battle fatigue and the injurys to your stats. it was a great time.
the community is not the same as it used to be for sure but hopfully someday it can be the same.

I agree with you about getting to the point where it overtakes one's RL. If you are normal, functioning and healthy human then you need to find balance but that is another thread unto itself. God have mercy, I would love for someone to fund a study on the social effects on MMORPGs.
True, Sony owns the game but one assumes that when you start playing a time sink based game that it would be improved upon and not completely changed. I could try some comparisons but to be honest, MMORPGs are kind of the first real instance where it entangles more of your private life than anyone would ever figure it to. During trying time, I bounced around to various games until I stopped on SWG. I liked its format and gameplay enough to put down my roots. I will go on the record and say that I hated the fact that content was slow coming but the community more than made up for it.
Then CU. Its not what we asked for or were promised. No one polled the community and during its brief testing - no one listened to us. I left when they made it live despite being very buggy.
The real reason I was angered is that it was my retreat. I was going through a nasty custody battle and to make a long story short - RL time while I waited for a slow court system (6 months without seeing my son) was very painful when I got home. I turned to MMORPGs and particularly - SWG was my escape. Breece and the Antarian Rangers and my contact list stopped me from thinking about things at least until I tired out enough to sleep. My mates even spent some time helping me through it while we waited on our targets. When CU came and our communities disolved - I lost my support system and the other me.
Was it legal for them to try to change to attract bigger numbers? Yes. Was it right how they did it? In my mind, no. I became a number and an accepted casualty in the chase to beat WoW. I volunteered to help them with changes. My post counts soared as I tried to interact - without hostility and ignorance. In the end, my time, money and good intentions were ignored and thrown away.
So is my story one that makes me nonfunctioning in RL? No, court happened. Happy ending and I balance my time. But you can see how one's involvement in MMORPGs make it personal and more than just a game.
Yea when the NGE first came out there was ahuge drop in players, it was like a ghost town, but I do have to admit as well that yea there is a large number of new players that are coming in to play that are starting to replace the ones that left as well. The community will go back to normal
Whannnnn Whannnnn dat is the sound of 20 year old babies
After the Focus Group finishes it's mission, nothing of what you think or we think will matter, because the game will be changed again. Need I to remind anyone of how the goal was to reach 6 milion subscribers like WOW? They didn't make it, so a new revamp it's certainly in the works.
Another good post kefkah, but Ia tell you I would not like them to do a study on the effects that MMO have on people due to the fact that it would prove some very disturbing things that would make me scared. It is a retreat no question about it, for me a few hours a week is all I really have time to do on any game let alone an MMO, I have a very busy social life and there are times when a day or night come along during the week and I dont want to go any place I just want to stay home for a little while and just veg right out, and so I play an MMO during the time frame. But it has to balanced.

Very unlikely the community will "go back to normal", due to the amount of bad publicty this NGE has bought SOE and the negative reviews that some very highly circulated publications gave it. Like I have said before unless SOE do something amazing with the game you will only see (this is a ball park figure and my own opinion) about a 25 to 30% increase of the total current subscribers that are in game. If you take that to be about 50k subs which i think is probably reasonable assumption to make based on the live figures someone obtained thats about at total of 62k to 70k subs. Some of the new players will probably leave after a few months when they find the game has no depth and move on to something new thus is the life cycle of a MMO leaving behind die hard fans.

You know I have no idea why anyone would want to make a game like WOW, it is the most basic simple easy game there is to ever play in an MMO genre, they have done a number of polls and all of them indicate that the vast majority of the player base are childern under 16 years of age. Which would explain the actions of the players in the game and the community there and its IQ level. The only thing I like about the NGE is the combat it is faster and I like fast combat games, other then I want everything else back, if they could have just changed the combat to what it is right now that would have been wonderful for me, not for all but it is for me and thats all I care about really HAHAHAHAHAHA ME LAUGH LONG TIME. But I would not be surprised if the game does not change again done in chunks at a time to a balance between the NGE and pre-NGE.
Whannnnn Whannnnn dat is the sound of 20 year old babies
Yup i'm not a fan of wow i think the game is mediocre at best, it lacks depth and i do believe the subs will fall given time. Alot of companies are making the mistake of following wow commerical success but sacrificing their own game's complexities. They have to realise that the older player base who can read and have longer attention spans are the ones who will stay for years and not a few months. After all MMO's are created to last for years and not months.

If a person thinks WOW has any depth then they will think SWG is a gold mine of content. I dont know if the community will ever go back to normal, it might go to something else, but it will be different once all the accounts of the persons who hate the game now and dont want to play it have run out.

ok SWG "fanboi" here. Good to see people liked my original post, and I'm glad no one flamed me rofl. Meanwhile I had a great time playing so far today, I got the screenie you wanted, if someone can tell me the steps neccessary to input it, I'll gladly link it. Okay, so the op is either Wepps reborn yet again or it is that Erillion guy who has all those nice cheery posts about the few and far between publishes.
Actually, the game is not loaded with players, the forum rats and the mods are still pleasantly at war, and we all hold out slim hope that LA talks to peeps tomorrow about the NGE and decides to crush it as they should. After they crush it into a teeny tiny little thing, they rooooollllll the game back to PRE-CU form as carefully as they can.
I logged on recently to give away all of my items to the ONLY person I know out of about 200 that is still playing, and the game was DEAD. ON A FRIDAY NIGHT.
NO ONE ANYWHERE.
Smedley even admits the game's growth is NEGATIVE.
Look man, if you like the game, that's fine, but don't make things up to make you feel better. Even the last die-hard fan I know says the game is dead and he's waiting for a shutdown. He said he's seen about a dozen new players that have stayed since the NGE has launched, and DOZENS who left.
The ONLY reason SWG isn't dead is because SOE / LA haven't pulled the plug... it's on life-support, and IMO, brain dead (pun intended).
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
