Another reason for not doing a rollback: The community that wants it cannot decide what point they want to go back to. In the very unlikely scenario that they did rollback people would bitch that they didn't take it back to X point or they took it too far back or, etc etc...
there is NOT going to be any rollback, conversion, etc.
some want jedi, some dont. some want jtls (me included) others don't. some think a clean restart is the way to go and most of the current players and poast would freak over this and never come back.
I wish NGE had never happened, I wish that SoE had better customer service, and i REALLY wish that they did not have a program of pushiugn our broken publishes and stealth nerfs all thime. BUT that is how SoE is operating with this game.
So for me it is game over, let the twich crowd have this game, they will see a console versio of the game i am fairly certain, and it will be more like battlegrounds on steriods more and more each publish.
I don't think SOE will rollback. That means they admit they screwed their customer base and SOE/Smed have to big an Ego to do that. Plus I think, as was previously stated, it would be a logistical nightmare. Think the game has bugs now? Jesus, I'm not sure I'd want to even consider that given SOE's ability to introduce more bugs than the ones they "fixed".
As for classic servers? Never happen, EVER. They'd have to sink money into a dying product (I don't give a crap what current SWG players say) and that isn't gonna happen. It would mean new hardware, launching new servers and a team of bug squashers.

Key words there that describe the majority of the swg community past and present. Im not refering to you Obraik, im just saying the majority.

Yep, that is a problem. One thing they could try to do is send out an email poll to their old customers. I'm sure they still have all our emails. See what the concens... wait... that would make sense and take creative thinking. .... nevermind.
One simple truth is... no matter what any company does at any point, they'll never make all the players happy. There's always someone bitching, even when they get hung with a brand new rope. Which is why I doubt I'd ever go back. The SWG community I think has been damaged to such an extent I doubt it would ever come back to what it was Pre-NGE (or even Pre-CU). But it's going back in time, not to mention very wishful thinking that there would be a rollback. I just do not see it happening.
I'm content at the moment to let the game rot in hell. Let the people who are playing the game have their fun. Nothing will replace SWG for me but nothing lasts forever eh?

Someone's gonna always find a way to bitch no matter what. It's about pleasing the majority and finding a happy medium for the rest.
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I pretty much agree with what you said there. I never liked the game after the CU... but I really do agree with what you said.
I think the major problem we had with SWG and in fact all MMO's. Is that people who are happy with the game are in it playing. They have no need to troll forums screaming about things because they are happy. Even if those who are NOT happy are a very small percentage. If they are very vocal and the only opinion showing up on the forums. Then it seems like everyone is unhappy because that is all you see when you go there.
I mean how many Devs randomly know people who never post are happy. If they mostly see unhappy communication that must be the perspective they gain.
I know when the CU was getting ready to roll out... Not one person on my friends list even knew what was coming. They logged in a few days before it went live and that was that. The three player cities I was a part of .. ceased to exist.
I saw maybe 5 come back just as the NGE hit then they just were gone.
Perhaps the biggest problem is just that... people who are actually happy or mostly happy.. have no reason to go to forums. They also are most likely not leaving any kind of feedback about what they like or don't like.
Which is why I don't put much stock into forum nerf posts and the like.

Good points. It's hard to generalize though. I'm an avid forum poster in general in the games I'm involved in (except DAoC, I HATE the VN boards, BLEH!). I always do homework on upcoming changes, etc.... I posted on the SWG forums even when I was happy with the game and so did many of my friends, but I do agree that many people do not post or even have a clue of what an upcoming patch has within. Which is one reason why I firmly believe that companies should make it there point to inform the uninformed. The login area is usually a good way.
Most people usually roll with the changes regardless though, which I became painfully aware of during the CU and the NGE. It surprised me how many people just didn't give a crap in general about what was happening to a game. To each their own though.
Well i agree with most of you a rollback to what point ??. I was a jedi of the "old" school grinding thru 31 professions, when they then made the jedi a quest reward i goth abit pissed but i learned to live it, ppl still had to work to get a jedi, and the game didn't chance that mutch.
But after NGE the game chanced soooooooo mutch i almost didn't recognize it the chat was scrued i couldn't chat when fighting you couldn't call for help or command ppl in place unless you stayed out of the battle, it became almost impossible to target a single mob when they attack in a group SWG became unplayable for me and allot others and servers filled up with jedis it goth bad after CU but after NGE it was insane i mean jedis where suppose to be a rare encounter they are suppose to live in seclusion and when they had to go to town they would go in discuses and sneak around, not dueling in town centers.
I would like seeing SWG to return to before CU but i could defiantly live with just a rollback to before NGE in comparens CU wasn't nearly as bad as NGE with i thing ruent SWG althou i must admit i only gave NGE a 3 week trial curs that was the time left before i had to pay for the upkeep on my 2 accounts.
SWG was the best mmo i ever played and i ben playing mmo for the past 10 years to bad it had to end like this.
"I think IF they did a roll back. They would not call it a roll back because of their pride. It will have a snazzy new ICONIC name."
See you started in the right direction but you have to go forward further...
SOE can announce the next SWG expansion. For $29.99 or $3 of for a digital download. Of course the in store version would come with some really cool in game item that the digital download wouldn't. Why? because the in store version must have something to offer (they did this with last EQ2 expansion not sure how a digital item is tied to a box but anyway).
The expansion would be called: Star Wars Galaxies: The Iconic Expansion.
What it would detail is having a Iconic version of Star Wars Galaxies. So what's in the box? The original SWG cd's...
The game gets returned to its original form (more or less) but only if you buy the expansion. With the promises of... A more Star Wars Galaxies type experience. As well as a promise to fix one bug a year and release an expansion every 3 to 6 months.
They could then have the next expansion be... The Iconic Jump to Lightspeed.. which would promise a spacier experience.
But that's just an idea further along what the person I quoted started.
It isn't hard. A "game developer" (ex $OE guy) looked at the database in an analysis I read and said that it would be easier to create new classic servers and transfer your character to it than anything. It was said that all your data in your bank, inventory AND datapad.. including ships and houses you own (with packup) could be easily bundled up and moved... IF the serial numbers and resources are reset to a baseline number. This would also be the same plan if they just rolled it back... as far as serials and resources.
So that solves the "where" issue.
The when issue would be pre-cu, just right after the fixes to JTL. That was the most popular selection from the LAST time they surveyed.
That solves the "when" issue.
As far as Jedi are concerned... current players could bring them. Classic players could have them. It was thought that all "elder" jedi get Knight when they come over. Everyone would get a couple respecs when transferred just to rebuild to what they wanted. Lets be real... pre-cu Jedi weren't all that. My Swordsman went toe to toe easily. Sure, their number is continuity breaking, but cutting out Jedi completely would alienate too many potential paid subscriptions.
There's NO reason not to bring alts as well. The horse is out of the barn there already. They artifically limited them in the first place.. no need to continue.
So start a classic server or 6. Let us transfer. See what money it will generate, and if it is the cash cow we think it is, re-tool RotW and ToOW. Further throw whatever manpower the project generates. Consolidate other servers to give classic servers room.
Any sane person KNOWS it can be done.
So now we're left with the "why" issue. More accurately the "why not" issue.
Smed.. got a real answer for that, bucko?

No the best one was Pub-9 cuz no one besides noobs like JtL. JtL would have been cooler if we had Jedi Powers in space but we didn't get that when we demanded it. No one liked JtL cuz it was an action game in an MMO and JtL should have been made as another game.
And as for all of you mocking me I was a Jedi and one of the biggest pvpers on my server. I will have the pre-cu back, and any nge loving noobies can line up and let me own them before giving me there stuff when the Pre-CU comes back. Don't hate the player hate the game.

That's a load of crap, but then again, I started answering this before I looked at who posted it.
JTL kept me, and many of my friends playing. It improved the game 100% and was responsible for the #1 most fun thing I ever did ingame.. taking down the impvette. Nothing compared to it.

I 100% completely agree with you Shayde, JtL was a savior in disguise for me, it came out at just the right time, as I was very close to leaving the game. Basically every single mission was a challenge, yes some were very easy (tier 1) but the majority of them required real skill and strategy, it wasnt like the ground game, you couldnt just run in a group of mobs and expect to live, you had to use programs and flight commands at the right times and under the right circumstances, and using them randomly often resulted in a destroyed ship.
And as far as Mr. Jedi there, do us all a favor and stick to the offical swg forums, back with all the other jedi lameasses that ruined the origional game. And force powers in space? If you want/wanted to be a jedi in every aspect 24/7/365 then go play Jedi Starfighter and the Jedi Knight games.

Space was fun, but everyone had a ship. Everyone had a few ships. Spaceports, shuttleports were a thing of the past. They were nice to have, but I think normal ships should have cost a fortune. Faction ships should have only been available for missions and shouldn't be allowed to go from planet to planet, only shuttleports. You shouldn't be able to fly to the other side of the galaxy in an Tie Fighter.

Hell! I bought JTL even if I didn't care much for space, just for not having to use Star Ports.

JTL was the only good expansion SOE launched. I only had two problems with it. Everybody had a ship and the interaction between ground and space weren't smotth enough. I would have loved to get engaged on a ground fight, then run to my ship and take that fight up in space. Imagine to have a BH after you then you head to the starport to get into your ship, launch into space with him right after you. All the possibilities there could have been if the interaction between ground and space had been better.

That's a load of crap, but then again, I started answering this before I looked at who posted it.
JTL kept me, and many of my friends playing. It improved the game 100% and was responsible for the #1 most fun thing I ever did ingame.. taking down the impvette. Nothing compared to it.
It is the #1 thing I miss too. it.
"There's no star system Slave I can't reach, and there's no planet I can't find. There's nowhere in the Galaxy for you to run. Might as well give up now."
Boba Fett
Space was fun, but everyone had a ship. Everyone had a few ships. Spaceports, shuttleports were a thing of the past. They were nice to have, but I think normal ships should have cost a fortune. Faction ships should have only been available for missions and shouldn't be allowed to go from planet to planet, only shuttleports. You shouldn't be able to fly to the other side of the galaxy in an Tie Fighter.

Hell! I bought JTL even if I didn't care much for space, just for not having to use Star Ports.
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
That's probably the only good decision by SoE.

Oh and no I didn't play a Jedi.
its simple..
Just make a Classic Server for SWG (Pre-Cu).
Your toons that got exposed to NGE are done for, you gotta start brand spanking new
on the Classic servers I hate to say.
Will this ever happen? Doubt it. When you got SOE and LA working on SWG, it just
has too many hands in the cookie jar.
Would I even go back to Pre-Cu? At this point they still would have to give me a free
month to try out Pre-Cu. From that point on I will decide whether I stay or go.
My friends online will have to make a big impact on me, not SOE or LA.
