If you feel that this is the worst launch in MMO history you haven't been part of MMO history. I think you spent to much time posting here throughout the years and not enough time playing MMOs. This launch is smooth as butter compared to some of the launches many of us have been a part of. This is why people are laughing at you.
I view this as one of worst not because of the technical side or anything to do with the game itself (it's a pretty decent game). I view this as one of the worst because to me it looks like it was launched in a bad way on purpose to profit off of people buying premium for faster queues. I've never suspected another company of launching their game in this fashion on purpose.
It's setting a new low for the industry.
So it's the worst launch ever because they're trying to make money? Where have you been for last 11 years of MMOs?
The spoiled younger generation, claiming launches as the worst ever seen. I wonder what they would do if they actually witnessed old MMo launches. They would probably be crying nonstop.
/snip
But the game is designed towards the "Younger Generation".
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Yeah, I mean they're not opening new servers or anything. I'm sure it's a big conspiracy to milk more money out of players... goddamn can people on this website become any more cynical?
I've sat in queues for hours for games that charge for the box AND a sub. I'd much rather spend five bucks in a completely free (and fun) game to sit in a way shorter queue.

You're obviously unable to see the bigger picture and that is that they have a lot more to gain by getting players in the game and spending on the cash shop, than having them wait on line and hoping they will spend $5 dollars to get in quicker?
In others words, when there is merchandise waiting to be sold inside the store a store owner wants people in the store so that they will buy that merchandise. Building barriers to keep people from coming into the store to buy that merchandise is not good business sense, and definitely a good way to go out of business. That's just common sense.
I was just sitting here and thinking that it was actually one of the better launches I've been a part of, however it's had some issues with queues and today's maintenance. Nothing too crazy.
They are adding two more servers soon if they haven't already. And also, why wouldn't subscribers be let in sooner in free to play game? That just makes sense.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
What, you expected fair treatment from them? It's NCSoft. They're pretty much the South Korean version of EA, just slightly more competent and much less apologetic.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

OP you have no idea what a bad launch is. GW2 was my "Worst Launch" only because on the 2nd day of Early Access, my account was hijacked by spammers, then suspended, then permanently banned by Day 3 of Early Access, and it took me over a week to get it back and play, my early access meant absolutely nothing. It was gone, and then some.
Blade and Soul has had an exceptionally smooth launch, queues aside, Gold Spammers are ALWAYS going to be a thing in any game you play ever, so that one doesn't even count. And charging for premium queues isn't some schemey evil thing. Its players with Premium Accounts, likely from a founders package. Shit happens, chuff up and deal.
I remember marvel heroes being bad but they improved after a few months, every mmo I have seen launched especially one that have a pre existing counterpart always comes with gold spammers, long queue's to get in are nothing new for a brand new mmo, it's the flavor of the month and the issue will resolve itself in time. You paid for premium is like paying for a line pass and crying when there is a line.
not the worst launch by far but selling a priority queue over a regular one with limited servers screams used car salesmen to me. But oh well you didnt miss much its just like the million other asian anime ninja action games on the market with nothing new or special about it other than a 1 vs 1 street fighter style pvp system. You can have my spot and many others im sure OP we wont clog up your queue.
Horizons. That was the worst launch I've ever been through. These modern MMO launches are infinitely better than that was. even the worst of them. I still remember the server-side hour long lag.
Lol i'm just waiting for someone to bring up Anarchy Online like they always do in these threads.
I almost did, but then again there are many many others I could bring up as well. What's the point? Most have been rocky in some way or another. Saying this is 'the worst' is beyond hyperbole.
I agree . Then again, expect to be met with lots of people finding ridiculous excuses to justify this.
Excuse 01: "it's free, therefore you get what you pay for"
this argument of course ignores the fact that F2P often make more money than P2P MMO. It also ignores that F2P create a class system where free players are the second class citizen, not only inside the game, but outside the game too.
Excuse 02: "pay money if you want to skip the queue"
this argument ignores that people who did pay money for Blade & Soul, had a queue too
Exactly. I find it funny how so many people are completely twisting my words and saying that it's my own fault for not paying when within my original post I say, "as I finally got in with my useless premium queue," which is a huge freaking clue that I bought premium.
What does it matter though? "Premium queue" should not even exist, it's a scam and it makes it so more companies in the future will purposely hamper their game launches and provide this pay-to-have service. The fact that people are actually excusing it is surprising to me.
You do realize that B&S is not the first nor the only game that offered aa Premium queue system.. There have been atleast 5+ other games that have done the exact same setup. Most F2P games when you pay you end up in a higher / faster queue system then non paying members. It is quiet the norm for F2P games and haas been for 5+ years now.

I'm not going to name names, but it's pretty easy to find out which ones they were.
First, the vip priority login isn't new by any means, there are several games that have had that. On all games, the initial release has a TON of people, so there's a queue to get in. People that haven't bought the priority access tend to get ticked about the ones that did. Nothing new there, except with over a thousand people waiting, I only saw 8 priority people on B&S the first day I checked it out. It gets a lot worse when there's over a hundred priority that want in, I've been there.
Of course, the heck with games with vip accounts, I've recently encountered a game that had so many people queued to get in, the wait time was around an hour and a half. Too bad that after about 40 minutes it automatically kicks you out of the queue for having been in it too long. Mind you, that game didn't even have a priority login of any kind.
There was a game where you had to log in, then create your character before you could even attempt to get to the gameworld. Too bad it was so lagged it could take minutes to complete each step, even if you didn't take the few seconds to actually choose something and just went with the default. Of course, there were enough steps, it took around 20 minutes under that kind of launch overload. Of course, if you were out of contact with the server for too long, which could happen when it was trying to load the next page, it would dump you, and you'd have to start over from scratch.
It's virtually a given that launch day/week will be hell on almost any game. The real test of how well they handle their load is usually 2 or 3 weeks later. Sorry, but this launch is a bit frustrating, but is far less of an issue than so many others that have occurred. Also, once you get into the game, it actually works decently. I haven't had any issues in game yet, so that was a pleasant surprise for once.
I've been told that it is better to be politically correct and bash the developers for launch day woes than to roll my eyes at those that do. So, add me to the 'me too' list even though I don't agree.
Install took about 45 mins. Logged in right away without any delay. played for about an hour but game just isn't my cup of tea. Participated in many worse launches.
The queue thing is disappointing, as a free player. I'm not willing to throw money at them just yet.
But apart from that, which I understand probably has more to do with being a business decision than a technical SNAFU, the launch of BnS actually seems to be going pretty smoothly.
I should have expected this thread. Just about every single MMORPG ever launched and covered by this site has "officially been the worst launch ever seen"
Quoted for absolute truth. I've seen so many game launches in the last 16 years that I can't even say that a launch is "the worst launch ever" any more. In my memory they've all blended in to become one homogeneous mass of screw-ups.
"Rampant gold spammers as soon as I finally got in with my useless premium queue, showing me that there are zero active GMs in the game, and showing me that NCsoft is a-freaking-okay with botters having priority queue over actual real players."
Yup, that's right, the company actually handpicked and hired gold sellers to play their game then choose to give them instant access to the server over regular players. It's a huge scam, get kotaku on the case.
How do people actually think so bad.
That conspiracy theory may not be so far off the mark, in that they have limited your block list to 50 people, with option to expand it for additional ncoin. Basically they're making money off people who want to block all the bots so they can enjoy chat. Most people I know have turned off regional chat entirely because you can't block all the spam bots in it. Even faction chat has the occasional spam bot make its way into it, and these aren't your ordinary once every minute or so spam bots, they literally spam a message every second, making chat unusable unless you block them.
I mean, how hard is it to let people have an unlimited block list, or if space on your server is at a premium either a 10k block list or just let people store the block list locally. It's not hard, it's just they found a new avenue for making money.
The worst launch in MMO history has to be Light and Dark. Their servers didn't even work right and client was buggy as hell. A lot of people who bought the game never got in and had to be issued refunds. The game shut down for a few months, was relaunched and then shut down again because it still didn't work. They were working on a third relaunch when the whole company went under because the didn't have the money to pay the licensing fees for the software they used. Some people never got their money back.
The launch of All Points Bulletin was pretty bad too. The game shut down after 39 days due to financial issues.
Also anyone remember Vanguard: The Saga of Heroes?

But the OP said officially. Apparently the OP is the official person for deciding mmoRPG launch quality.
