Seems UBI (the CS guys) have sold out their shares in the SB project and hence there were/are ongoing billing problems. Mayby free SB will improve it's population total like free AO (Anarchy Online) did for it.
Those people coming back with full inventories expect quite a few waiting to pk u instantly & later send u a tell thanking u for the donation! Make a new char first to get the feel of things before loging in older rich & equiped chars.
Mourning (high pop) and Vindication are active servers. Wrath is suposed to be bonus exp.
Now, normally I don't jump in on flamefest but, xplororor, you're just pulling this out of thin air (that's the nice way of saying what I'd like to say). Before I explain to you a few things, let me first say that I have a lot of respect for Mark Jacobs and a lot of the crew over there such as Sanya. Sure, there was some "competitive blood" between Shadowbane and DAOC back in the day but that was just that, back in the day.
Shadowbane has never been a pretender to DAOC. We announced prior to them and it only took three years to make the game which is a norm for MMO development. DAOC used a lot of middleware (which was a great idea) and got out quicker. If you want to talk about MMOs who have been in development the longest, there are a LOT of other games that, by far, top Shadowbane.
Like I said, though, DAOC hardly nuked us. We came out about a year after them and our biggest problem has always been the core technology that Shadowbane was created on. Since our acquisition by Ubisoft, the game has made huge improvements.
In fact, Shadowbane and DAOC are not very similar. DOAC and WoW would be a much better comparison. Shadowbane is a PvP-based game where everyone can be your friend... but also can be your enemy. There are no "safety areas" except for Freehold (GM) Cities and the initial beginning lands (that you can't go back to). Once you're at the mainland, you can expect PvP pretty much everywhere. It is a very hardcore PvP-based game built on player conflicts where players can actually build cities and tear other cities down. In fact, after Level 40, you can level solely by PvP.
Anyhow, Shadowbane is not for everyone. If someone reading this is interested, though, I would HIGHLY recommend reading the folllowing first:
Cough, I feel like a nerd saying this but yah, its the first site I ussually check in the morning too hehe..But to be honest I am still on the noob mainland and am quite overwhelmed with all the buttons and options in the Interface, Thanks for the guides and does this game have a steep learning curve because it sort of looks like it?
uhg I'm also confused as to what the difference between and profession and a discipline is..
Hi! My name is paper. Nerf scissors, rock is fine. MMORPG = Mostly Men Online Roleplaying Girls http://www.MichaelLuckhardt.com
In addition, we recently added a new option under the Windows Menu called "Import Layout". So if you set up one character with the layout you want, you can use that function to import it to other characters. That, combined with "Import Hotkeys" (in the Hotkeys GUI) makes setting up interfaces MUCH easier after you have one the way you like it.
Question for you Ashen. It's a levelling game. How much difference is the between levels? If I have a level 10 character, how fast would I die to a level 20, etc.? How would 2 level 10's do against 1 level 15?
The higher in level you get, the less the difference. There is a much bigger difference in power between Level 10 and Level 20. With that said, I have seen a group of 3 Level 20s kill a Level 60. With every Rank (basically every 10 levels), you get reduced returns on points you can spend on Attributes.
Do you go from Base class ---> profession ---> Disciple?
or is it base class ---> profession...and thats it? (confused on what exactly a disciple is.)
EDIT: I just read about it and it seems disciples are just addons to the character or something, still sort of unclear. but it is an interesting game, I always wanted to try it and now that it is free, its even better,
Hi! My name is paper. Nerf scissors, rock is fine. MMORPG = Mostly Men Online Roleplaying Girls http://www.MichaelLuckhardt.com
The down and dirty is you start as one of four Base Classes (Fighter, Healer, Mage, and Rogue). Each Base Class has a variety of Professions they can promote to at Level 10 and some of them mix. For instance, you can be a Rogue Ranger or a Fighter Ranger; the difference between the two being their Base Class Stats and Abilities.
From there, at Level 20, you can multiclass a bit more by taking on Disciplines. Sort of like Talents in WoW (if you're familiar with WoW) where you can take multiple lines to augment and specialize your character. These have restrictions and prereqs. For instance, a Rogue Ranger could take the "Black Mask" Discipline but a Fighter Ranger could not since it is a Rogue-based Discipline.
Wow, I was having a bad day....but it's all better now! My god, this is great. Well, mostly great. Only bad part is that now the game will be full of people that don't really care, and obviously cheapen the experience. But, oh well, it'll breath some life back into the game.
Originally posted by sidebuster I can't find were I can resubscribe. I am guessing it is on the client itself. Anyone know if there is a link to reactivate on their site?
Well this will be interesting. I quit SB about...oh, 2 or so years ago. I'll give it a try again. Biggest turnoff was the PNC movement. If they do SB2, I hope it'll be WASD style.
"Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal."
haha I remember that a long time ago too while trying to download a game. That isnt the problem though. Fileplanet uses a version 2.0 downloadmanager that downloads files as a cache and converts it to whatever file when it is done. Every time the download completes it says the file is incomplete and you can to redownload. I am gonna try another site because this is pissing me off royally.
ARE THERE ANY SITES that have the shadowbane client other than lamespy and "full servers" gigex?
EDIT: I am gonna try an download the trial with Opera (web browser) and see if that works.
EDIT: So far, I have found none. Maybe more mirrors will pop up later on as the game continues to be free. There will definitly be stuff you can "buy" for your account in the future, I can garuntee that. Nothing is completly free in MMO's.

I am NOT trying to start anything, im just saying it. For all you hardcroe PvP people, this is the game for you.
Now at least everyone has a game to suit them, I might go back and play so I have a nice PvP game to go to.
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
