Yesterday at PAX we got the chance to speak with the Chronicles of Elyria team. The indie MMO had a booth at PAX just a few weeks before their Kickstarter goes live on May 3. The game was showing off its first combat build. The team explained their plans moving forward as they build out the team and the game for fans.

We will see. Maybe they will come to their senses in the next week.

What would you say is the problem, then? The base game too expensive? Or the fact that there are high tiers?
Edit: this is not to say these are all the tiers possible, just the two they talked about.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Whatever.
Make the game then sell the game. That's how game development has worked for years. I'm not "speculating" on games. Especially since too many of them are trash... or they add "new" content that I didn't purchase later on making the game take even longer to hit shelves.
Assuming that's the thread you were talking about, if not, could you link the one you were referring to?

There is no way in hell i can support a game that allows head starts based on $$$.If a developer cannot treat players as equals "in game" then i will not support it.If they want to give some stuff not related to in game then that's fine but no other option is acceptable.
As to how many would accept a KS i would HOPE MOST have enough common sense to realize that type of gimmick is NOT a good idea for the gaming market.Rich game developers should NEVER take advantage of naive...dumb people.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Just kinda pre sale game in hope it will turn well and we will like at least I like the way they talk about project LOL
Kickstarters are the pyramid scheme of this millennium.
The $75 tier is way too expensive for the base game with access to some Beta Weekend Events. The sweet spot is always going to be $50 because that's what most folks feel the going rate for a game is. Then you take that and throw lots of "goodies" to incentivize people to pre-purchase the game a year or more in advance.
Kickstarter's aren't exactly rocket science and there is plenty of history to draw from. If they expect you to pay $120+ for real beta access they will never get their target. I'm not going to debate the value of any tier as that is subjective. I am simply commenting from following and supporting dozens of these things.

Monetization-wise, they are selling Sparks of Life. Sparks of Life allow you to reincarnate a soul you have been playing, that died of old age. Dying of old age can take from over a year to as fast as a handful of months. The less you die, the longer it lasts. That gives a much better motivation to be smart and not just rush into every combat without thinking. Dying has a real sting to it, which is sorely needed in games these days.

You MIGHT get something playable but its unlikely to happen because expectation are generally raised.
Guys should just focus on making something worthy of a Steam EA greenlight and hope its good enough and makes enough that way to continue to develop.
Crowd funding is selling hope with no guarantees whatsoever. I know everyones likes to convince themselves and other that its a 'noble' approach but get real most of them are complete disasters. Peopl can cite the one or two 'success' stories all they want but in the end it wasnt even the crowdfunded money that got those games (eventually) made it was money from outside guys after they used crowd fund money to get it to a state where it was 'safe' enough to 'invest' some 'real' money into it.
These guys did try to get that 'investor' money first at least, but BECAUSE they didnt get it should raise some warning flags.
Concept of this game is obviously what people want, the 'gimmick' of growing old and dying isnt. So in the end a decent concept if simply introduced without gimmicks or basically a straightforward MMO it would be one to really look forward to. But basically this game seems to be outsmarting itself and anyone who might be willing to back it (other than the same fools who back every 'next big thing' game to come along because theyre so desperate for a game to call 'home'.

Wasteland 2 , Pillars of Eternity , Divinity Original Sin , etc I've all gotten because of KS. Well worth it. These games to me are better than 99.99% of the "AAA" shit that has been launched the past several years.
Now I'e got Camelot Unchained , Battletech , and Divinity Original Sin 2 on the way and backed also, and feel quite confident I'll have the same opinion of them also.
And if that's the thread above referring to a survey of who would back , a 55/45 split is not "unanimously against" in any dimension's math.
should i care these guys spend all the money building a games ?? should i care they dont have enough finish the game ? no, and that not my problem, they should have do a feasibility plan and a budget before start the game, and honestly your point dont stand, they can go to a bank to ask for money ( yeah they will pay it back with interrest ) but if they are so sure of this wonderfull game they will sucess.
in all others business field it work like that, and it was working like that in gaming too and guess what ? most games were better, because they needed good games for suceed, and they worked hard on it.
now what happen if these numbers 222000 get full of kickstarter cash ? they got the goal, the game will be worst for sure, in fact look at star citizen, you think they care about the games at this point?
they got the money the game would have give them IN ADVANCE, they have no rush, no pressure, they will releease a shit games for sure, just like these dev here..... probably.
kickstarter are a lazy way, free money, no interest scam system, very few games finish, dev got no obligation about anything usualy, they can keep these game in beta for years and nothing happen.
that pretty easy get lazy when you get your goal money in advance, before the job done, and no one can do anything if you dont do the job after !!!
go see a bank, if you dont have enough, im not paying any money for YOUR GAMES TO FINISH if you dont have enough, im not a charity.
But with the many failures in the crowdfunded MMO space, and the large capital requirements to make a non-crap MMO, there is no reason for the would be customers to take all the risks.
Make the game, and if it looks to be good, I'll buy.
Until then, get your financing from actual investors, and not by shilling pipe dreams to gamers.
I'm seriously curious why this is suddenly being said that they have to get money from a publisher/invenstor when the other games were fine with doing kickstarter.
