Holy Batshit Fatman! Who knew this would be such a touchy subject. So finally someone has convinced the console market that allowing your players creative freedom is a good thing. Huzzah.
I will never again on these forums utter the words "who uses that shit?"  If I had known what kind of drama bomb it would set off, then I'd just let Bethesda's bullshit figures slide.

No the thing was you made the same point three other people did before you. Then went on and on about it. So everything you said was useless. Because the point had already been made. Three times before your pointless post.

It even mentions in the article about people getting mods from other places than their site yet people just ignore it and spew the same thing over and over again. Making the Nexus comments pointless.
Really what did you expect people to say with that kind of thread title? Everyone uses nexusmods so the figure is irrelevant.

Most PC users do not just use the official service. Rather depends on the game, you can just use steam. But if the game is heavily modded you will look elsewhere. Fallout would be a classic example of a game with multiple quality mod outlets on the PC.

You mean because consoles are rapidly evolving into "upgradeable" budget-PC's with a XBox or Playstation logo on the outside ? :D
You grabbed that hook rather quick

Wow, it seems PC players are getting rather sensitive and edgy in this thread :open_mouth:

Because the report is not an accurate number for the overall state of use. Problem with this kind of report is that someone will use it to push for game development changes that might not be what PC users want

As I said, before Skyrim is my favorite game. But on the PC I hate the console based UI. It's very clear it was designed 1st for a control pad, then ported to KB and Mouse. I often wonder how much more enjoyable Skyrim would be if I had access to menus and abilities more like PC based games rather than clicking from Menu to submenu.

Stealth Marksman is my go to build in Skyrim. I love the play-style on my PC. I'll never touch it on XBox. Playing Skyrim as an Archer with the controller pad is Awful.

Yeah it is a touchy subject. I want my games to be designed specifically for the platform I buy it on and not a rushed port.

Considering Bethesda dumbed down the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, it's not really surprising that the majority of copies are sold on consoles.

I have a serious question, is there any gaming company aside from CDPR actually still developing great RPG games (of any kind)? The days of Morrowind, Gothic, perhaps even Diablo 2 are so far away. Hell I've even enjoyed Fable more than Oblivion or Skyrim. If it wasn't for ESO I'd quit elder scrolls long time ago.

Aside from the Witcher and Mass Effect series, I've been constantly disappointed by other gaming companies. It's like they aren't even trying. And it's not just the RPG genre, nearly all the genres have been totally dumbed down, and would have been reviewed 5/10 at best in the old days.

Bethesda revealed that the Xbox One's launch of Fallout 4 mods has had 50 times more traffic than when it launched the service on PC. The developer had apparently been pushing for mods on consoles for 15 years. Can you imagine if this would have happened sooner? We could have had horse armor for free!

While 50 times more traffic is impressive, I'd imagine many people on PC were already using mods from elsewhere when the official service launched, and surely the PS4 version will draw even more traffic once mod support is available there.

I think it's fantastic that consoles finally get to experience modding but I also think these figures are designed to push an agenda.  The vast majority of PC gamers are using established modding resources and these figures are chosen with intent to glaze over this fact so they can prove a point to MS and Sony.  The PC master race  and console devotes will latch on to this notion and turn it into a PC vs Console debate.

On the other hand this has the appearance of an Apple vs Android topic so we'll probably get some free market debate as well.

At the very least, I think we can all agree that this is a good first step.

    Completely agree.
This was a statement to Microsoft and Sony. Bethesda proving that Console gamers want and will support mods. Something Sony and Microsoft have been unwilling to do for ever until now.
This was never in the slightest about where PC players get their mods. The Nexus comments were pointless  because this was just a game developer proving a point to the console makers in a public way.
It was never about PC vs Console.
Nor was it meant for players.
This was a direct message to Sony and Microsoft.
Bit of an odd message, if Bethesda were trying to prove a point they would have also made comparisons with the main mod providers, which Bethesda isn't, not even remotely, if Console gamers also had access to the same mod providers as PC gamers, then Bethesda would find that Console gamers would also be going elsewhere for their mods, after all, why wouldn't they?
If anything the message Bethesda is putting out, is that they are advertising their own services, possibly because they intend to implement monetisation of them at some point, after all, Skyrim mods drastically increased the lifespan and the popularity of that game, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Bethesda was looking to increase their take from mods for F4, on all platforms, through paid for dlc/mods.
If they were sending a message to either Sony or Microsoft, i doubt they would do it in such a fashion, and probably not publicly either.

Soooo they're tracking the Nexus?  Cause that's where 90% of mod traffic is for PC.

In fact, I just checked the Nexus a second ago.  81 million mods downloaded just for Fallout 4.  Skyrim has 922 million downloads of mods.  New Vegas 150 million.

There's an official mod site?  Who uses that shit?
I think Bethesda was just saying to Microsoft and Sony "Look! Mods DO work and can be popular on consoles" Those two companies have resisted for so long to allow developers to do that.
This is an announcement of validation not one in which the PC folk argue over where the majority of mods come from.
No matter what we want, this thread will devolve into PC vs Console, so I'm just laying out the facts that there's no way they're even remotely close to PC's.

But yes, mods should have been on consoles for at least half a decade now.  It's stupid that they haven't.
It's a good thing you are here to be the tip of the spear of this argument.  This thread was made just to show people that modding on consoles can work and is popular.  Why you and others came here to make pointless arguments to derail the thread I just don't understand.

This reminds me of threads when someone asks which gaming laptop they should invest into.  Presenting a few examples, then along come guys like you.  "Get a desktop".  "Gaming laptops are stupid".  You bring literally nothing to the table.

I think that's was the focus of the original post.

Why a comparison between the PC Nexus site and PC official site came up, I'm not sure.

Come come consoles.. slowly you step towards your final form of subpar PC´s with a fancy brand...

Actually to be honest this is good development because this might open up more games to the whole mod thing. That in turn is good for all.

This have been a good conversation

I have to wonder how the almost 82,000,000 downloads for the PC version of FO4 on Nexus would affect that comparison.
Probably quite a bit but at the same time having mod support on consoles is a good thing for developers and gamers alike. Regardless of the PC vs Console silliness, it is awesome to see it doing well and have it finally brought to the home consoles for those players.
My favorite game of all time has been Skyrim. My daughter loves to play Oblivion and wanted to play Skyrim too. so she bought Skyrim on Xbox and hates it. Mods totally change a game. I wish they could get a mods for Skyrim on consoles.
yupp, when Skyrim came out i got it on PS3(or 360, cant remember) and the day it came out on Steam with mod support i sold the disc and bought it on steam and played the entire game with over 100 mods. 300+ hours later i beat the story. Getting mods on consoles now is very welcome and refreshing for me.

I think this is a great news.  I've been out of the console market since the PS2.  But, the more and more I read about the PS4 the more I'm thinking it's time to get back into it.  One of the biggest selling points for PC gaming over console gaming has always been the modding.  I'm happy to see they will now also get this option.  After all, modding has always breathed more life into a game you've finished.  Making replays different and exciting to try new things.

Another thing I think people will overlook is that if consoles gamers get into modding.  We'll possibly see new and innovative mod ideas that aren't being done on PC atm.  Being that the mods still have to be made on PC.  It's a very good chance those same console mods will make their way to the PC version as welll.  Hopefully Sony and Microsoft see that they are missing out on a market that they maybe didn't think existed before.

Is it really creative freedom with Big Brother Bethesda telling you what mods you can and can't have? Or telling you if you use a mod, you are immediately blocked from earning any achievements.

Semantically, it's more like bringing an estranged uncle to the table.

Problem is simply that some see this news and catch the "x is bigger than y" and the people on the y side end up scratching their heads over just what the comparison is supposed to mean.

The reason that there's any degree of a tizzy for anyone is because the numbers are somewhat inconsequential in the first place. Outside of those with their head in the ground, there should have never been any assumption to the contrary that mods would be popular. They are a component that lets players have greater control over their game as well as simply offering a means to expand the longevity of play.

Part of the reason UT 2K4 was popular for it's time even, and why Epic Game's attempt at pushing mod content onto consoles with UT3 was an important step.

It's an unnecessary contrast to say the success of the console market's mod launch framed against PC in general because it's not a contrast that adds much if any depth to the news.

Instead, it becomes bait for people to scratch their heads over. Knowing how fragmented the PC userbase is compared to console that only really has one (legal) venue of access for most their content means any subsequent contrast between their metrics is going to need to be taken with a rather large grain of salt.

A better statement simply would have been to note that mod support has taken off reasonably well, and how the content they now have access to may evolve the user experience in the long-term. If you need to compare anything, then take the present mod trends and contrast it to the types of larger mod projects underway.

That all said, the fundamental point that mods on the console are being taken to swiftly is itself good news. Not sure how many remember or knew UT3 had console mod support or how that played out, but the thing to take away on that is cautious optimism that Bethesda has seen the problems Epic ran into and is working to avoid them with a more streamlined and contained system for making and porting mods.

Lol wow.. if someone HERE had not said Bethesda had mods.. I NEVER would have known. Everyone I know .. its Nexus and not just for Fallout.

50% I can see that as true for the ones that ONLY go to Bethesda but PC users as a whole, the actual % amount would be single digits at best. To FINIAL get mods.. NICE!
