I already know going into it that it isn't going to be a movie that really speaks to me simply because Warcraft never caught me. Watching a movie for a couple hours in a world that has no hold over me isn't something I'm particularly excited for, and I think a lot of critics don't know nor care about what WoW is. The movie is supposed to make people care.
That's why Superhero movies struggled for so long.. the plots were centered around what the heroes could do... it was mostly story and effect light... leaving viewers with a perception of how powerful the heroes and how dire the situations were.
Nowadays it's not hard to put on a showcase of effects. This does allow for each actor for these superhero movies to mature a bit and people to get invested in them without having to know much about backstory.
People will impress on the movie their perception based on how they understand it. It could be possible a lot of critics just didn't understand WoW - I don't know - I already know that based on what I do know about WoW it's definitely a wait until netflix kind of release for me.
Then again, I'll be there opening weekend for Finding Dory.. so....
I wont say that the movie is amazing, but I will say that "good reviews" will lead them to do more movies and there are some story arks that I would love to see like arthas.
The movie only has a bad rap amongst critics. The audience is giving it a much higher rating even as high as 84. Glad to see that people will enjoy a movie regardless of how critics tell them.
The reason why it has a high score because the general public are staying away from it.
The positive reviews are coming from WoW fans.
Funny. This is exactly how you sound about any TRION game.
really ..shocking ................... Grandma dont like animated violent orcs... // How can that be ... lol wtf ...The rest of your statement is also completely unfounded speculation and false ..
A good movie works non-fans and fans - because the acting, the story, the actual movie is good - do you agree?
So non-fans of Lord of the Rings would agree that LOTRO movies are actually pretty good.
Now Warcraft is bad not because of some "Blizzard/WoW hate train" - that's absurd. There is no conspiracy here.
What 123 movie critics have a bone to pick with Blizzard? lol
It's bad because it fails in basic things that a good movie has:
1. Good acting - it's not good in Warcraft 2. Good script - it's a mess in Warcraft 3. Comprehensible to non-hardcore fans - not even close
Again Warcraft fails at basics that would make it a good movie.
The reason why Warcraft is getting bad critic reviews is because of poor script, poor acting - it's a mess
Whats funny here is now matter how much you hate WoW and how much you hate the movie because its not TRION related, theres still more WoW expansions coming, and theres going to be more Warcraft movies
actualy i have realy enjoy it, the special effect were realy well done, im enjoying medieval fantasy type movie and this movie was decent, the story not worst or better that others movie ( they all got the same story why critic bash this movie more that the others ?? )
a good hero a evil monster with a evil plan a good friend who turn up evil someone who grown in power a love story tragic scenes battles
warcraft follow the formula, but if these amazing crtic bash this movie how about they also bash every damn movie releases we got since many years ???!!
the story was not more shitty or better that many movie we got since many year yet critic give some of them 10/10
this movie a summer movie, you turn off your brain just a bit, and enjoy the movie, that was fucking good and nice.
these critic were probably thinking they would discover the reason of life in the warcraft movie and they are butthurt.
My wife and I watched today and its awesome. Even my wife who have no idea about warcraft loved it. She even said better have a warcraft 2. I dont care about critics. We love the movie thats all that matters. For the horde!!
I think tis getting bad reviews from ppl who did not enjoy the experience of WoW. Imagine playing WoW from vanilla, and with every new expansion comes an insane grind for good gear. It wears down players, and that 'grind' really is something meaningless in terms of challenging content, and just repetition for the most part.
I think after the years, and several expansions later, they shortened the grind and focused on allowing people to progress through content and go for the challenge. May be the 'grind' helped to only allow the 'elite' only participate in raids and kept the averge player away, but they can still try to bridge the gap of skill by making the progression challenging as well.
That became the contradiction I found with themepark mmos, their jounrey was easy, but then had an insane grind for gear, and then allowed access to fun content which the players were not really ready for.
For example other than making the progression more challenging to prepare ppl for raid content, they can hae 'training' rooms that show ppl how to play their builds and even practise with certain bosses, and even can practise with A.I. npcs as their team against the boss. I mean, the point is, to reduce the grind and give skilled and knowledgable players access to challenging content at end game. Instead of just making the end game content easy as well, shorten the grind, and keep the journey simple and easy.
So themepark mmos tried to do too much while offering very little in terms of rewarding and challenging content due to the simple journey, long gear grind, and then the challenging content, which with new iterations of WoW have become easier, or so I hear... and ofc to reiterate, with every new expansion repeating that exhausting process of barely rewarding the player in terms of challenging content for the time they put into the game.
So i expect the negative reviews to be from people who have this perspective and are WoW players or ex WoW players. Or maybe heard about other people not likeing WoW, or horror stories of people losing their livelihooh to the WoW grind (instead of going to highschool/studying) and ofc the game being teen rated. So they want to make people not go see the movie, and get hooked to the incidious nature of WoW of dragging people through that grind and losing their livelihood.
Sounds like a rant... but I am not personally affected in such a negative way. Well, lineage 2 took its toll on me. But I personally think mmos should not be teen rated. And the point is as to why? Im only offering possbile biases.
I have not seen the movie, but I am sure I will enjoy it. And my opinions of MMOs would not reflect my enjoyment of the movie.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
This movie made no freaking sense at all to anyone that doesn't know anything about Warcraft.
The CGI was nice, the sceneries were amazing but man oh man, the movie made absolutely no sense at all unless you already know the Lore and story of Warcraft.
IMHO, one of the worst movies ever for non fans of the franchise.
The love story made no sense.
All the main characters, who the f****k are they and why do they exist?
I could go on and on, bad movie is bad movie. Good CGI and nice sceneries can't redeem how bad of a movie this was to me.
Jean-Luc_Picard said: The movie is simply at least half an hour too short, and that's why it feels rushed, jumping from a part to another, missing links that would put them all together. That's also why some character feel underdeveloped.
I have great hopes for the Director's Cut. If its really 40 minutes longer, it could turns what is a decent summer fantasy movie with impressive visuals into a good if not excellent fantasy movie.
Thanks to yours and several other posts saying this same thing, I plan to just wait for the full version before seeing it at all. Might as well get the full experience in one go.
I didn't have much interest in seeing it at the theatre, either way. But, I know when it hits DVD/B-R to make sure I check out the Director's Cut and not the regular theatrical version.
I think people was expecting Lord of the Ring or Games of Thrones material that's why they are disappointed.
Warcraft is a cheesy sometimes over the top blockbuster like many others (Xman and all Marvel/DC Comics movies), it is not a masterpiece but certainly in line with those kind of movies which got better reviews but aren't actually any better.
Warcraft is a good movie (with some flaws) go and see it.
I loved it. Story was good. CGI was great. I think it was a great movie overall. Would it have been great had I not known the whole story line, not sure, but for me it was solid.
Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.
It depends how people looked at the movie. Some were expecting Lord of the Rings type tone, which Warcraft has never been. Those people didn't like it.
Then there are people like me that compared it to something from the 80's like Krull or Masters of the Universe, which i think have more in common tone wise. I enjoyed it in that regard.
Only movie this year which has gotten a good review was the captain america civil war movie... To me the worst big movie to be released this year. Hated how they shit on the civil war storyline. Anyway warcraft was a good movie and it does not deserve the bad ratings its getting. I feel 95% of those who write reviews dont see the movie. listen to what other say or well wont get into the last part since only disney movies look to be getting good ratings so far this year.
Civil war was ok but nothing to write home about. Critics praised it. It seems all critics praise marvel. It seems marvel can do no wrong in the eyes of the critics.

Very much not true.. plenty of their films got terrible reviews.. all it takes is a quick look at the past marvel films to see that quite a few of them had less than stellar ratings.
It's getting bad reviews because it earned them, much as that may conflict with a few fanboys' egos. I love that there's this collective sense of conspiracy that hovers just behind every word the OP, and those like him, utters on the subject. Yes, yes, OF COURSE, the big bad critic's continuum - a veritable illuminati of pudgy, middle-aged men - got together and decided that this was a movie they were going to work together to sink... because reasons.
It's a bad film that was designed to prey on people who cannot tell the difference between good storytelling and abject garbage. Now, please lecture me on how awesome the Twilight Books are, or how superbly emotional Fifty Shades of Grey is.
Critics these days don't like anything except stereotypical indie films or coming of age BS. They're superior attitude make them insufferable and jaded. I always take far more weight from the user reviews than I do critic reviews. I didn't have high expectations going in and I actually ended up really liking it for the most part. The casting of Ben Foster was ridiculous and distracting, and Garona was awkward, but it was really nice seeing the story in film. And the orcs were extremely well done.

And that is what I wanted to know, guess I'll be avoiding this movie lol. I played WoW around launch, haven't played it in years though and don't remember any of the stories from it.

I suppose that's why Civil War was so well reviewed? Oh, I forgot... that was a story about how a young Cap and Bucky "found themselves" by sharing poetry and making love in a meadow in that last, melancholy summer before the Great War.

The low quality acting also hurts the movie. It's almost as bad as having The Rock trying to act for your movie.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
