People are easily fooled into thinking many things just at face value. Whether they think this is conceited or them being desperate, it's something unique that will be spread by word of mouth.
It's very easy to market when people jump to conclusions or don't know how to control their own bias.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

SotA was the second game I ever backed on Kickstarter (the first you ask? Greedmonger ). It is also the second game I ever regretted backing on Kickstarter. It is sooo far from the initial vision I can't even bother logging in anymore. Seeing the Cash Shop mentality of this game I am not surprised at all that he would try something like this.

Well, yeah. Garriott and Roberts both. The A team guys from Origin had that taint. Of course, Garriott is still liked by folks who worked under him, so there's that positive.

They are still trying to build an MMO on a shoestring budget with a very small team. It's not like the early days of game development where you could build a leading design with an investment of 5 or 6 million dollars.

as far as free publicity, is anyone really go to become interested in his game because they read about this? 'getting peoples attention' at any cost is nonsense, if they are talking about how absurd your actions are.
years ago in pro wrestling, some crazy writer decided it was a good idea to put the championship on actor david arquette. no one liked it, but he kept saying it worked because it 'got people talking'...he was right, to this day people still talk about how awful it was. the shows ratings plummeted afterward, ppv buys, ticket sales, etc....nose dived. but it 'got people talking'
I like how the same people who think this is weird do not bat an eye at supposed adults playing a $%^^ pokeman game. Super fans have always bought stupid crap from people they believe should be looked up to. These people are weird, yes. But at least this Ultima has always been made for a far more mature audience than pokeman. Adults playing kids games is mind boggling.
I've always been a live and let live kind of person but this is the last straw for me. I am now hoping for nuclear holocaust. Mankind does not deserve to continue since we are devolving. Lets end it now before we sink too low. We can end it on a higher note than where things are headed. What is next? Adults drinking from baby bottles and wearing diapers? Maybe adults watching videos of people playing games that they own and could play themselves? Oh yeah, they do that already.
