Since before there were MMOs. Do the words "Legend of the Red Dragon" mean anything to you? Probably not. You were probably sucking on a pacifier then.

I see they've pulled the release date. I guess the next poll should be "How long until they cancel it".

    Indeed.

My hunch?  They've figured out that with Hero's Journey, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Warhammer, Darkfall, Trials of Ascension AND Chronicles of Spellborn which basically has their name... there really is not room for their Tolkien/WoW-ish MMO in the market.

So.... I'm guessing the reason Africa looks so great is that they are secretly *really* devoting their energies to it, which actually has a chance of standing out amidst all the Tolkien and/or Anime-influenced hordes out there.

If I was advising them, anyway, that's where I'd tell them to focus their energies.

That, and getting those horror projects going too.  They should seriously talk to White Wolf about getting the World of Darkness license, honestly.

If the bold text is about TC then all I can say is you have no idea what your talking about and the rest of your post deserves no response.

"pulled the release date. I guess the next poll should be "How long until they cancel it"."

hmm maybe they don't have a realease date so people like you can't make a thread like this again if they miss it..but no thats crazy they should keep popping out dates they don't know they can keep that is the smart thing to do...right.... (sarcasm)

again you don't think the game will come out...yet your here posting about it, hmm I wonder why....you think some people would have better things to do with their time, like anything but i could be wrong

Maybe we care about the genre and don't like it when these companies take a dump on it.  This pay-to-play-beta-then-cancel crap has got to stop.

i agree man, i hate to say it the troll makes the most sense in the entire thread.

its not your normal game where they delay it and such..this company is a joke.
they promised 2 games live by last fall, people preordered at the beginning of fall when they were still promising this

they didn't give away the stuff they promised in the preorder.

they offered a refund when it seemed like it was such a great change to a fantastic new engine. when the idiots finally realized it was just another joke and started asking for the refunds, they were magically gone??? why, what changed

99% of the people did not get what was promised in the preorder package. i realize its dumb stuff, but if the company is too arse backwards or too cheap to buy a few hats, tshirts, and posters(which were promised to preorders) then what can you really expect from them?

they buy a game, endless ages, that noone wanted to play 5 friggin years ago when it was released..more delay . i wont even get into the africa fiasco, but the relationship is going to end badly mark my words.

this company has done nothing but lie to customers and fail at what they try, assuming they really even try.

not to get on CG's case, im sure if he had a flasback to when he was a gamer and started answering us like he knows he should he would be canned, and you cant blame a guy for wanting a paycheck

It is getting really hard to keep checking up on this game. No new info, same shots of the same characters and places, and they keep working on other games.  Funny how all the people who paid and are on their boards are waiting for this title but they keep putting effort into other things that no one has expressed interest in.  Why waste time updating endless ages when everyone who paid for the preorder is waiting for another game?
  • fulmanfufulmanfu Member Posts: 1,523

because there is still random boxes in computer stores nationwide of endless ages. and a few loyal subscribers. and its actualy a game, unlike TC. in other words, it bailed them out for awhile.

I don't agree with you about the relationship with endlessages. Most people assume that irevampoing that game was part of the agreement for use of the engine. However, fulmanfu, I agree with you on everything else. Anyone who thinks this company has any credability (although I am certain Rapid Reality is trying) I don't know what to say except hope that works for you.

That being said there are things about the company and the game ideas I find appealing. Hopfully they will be able to finish having those features in some approximation of their claims.

Is any of this thread actually pertinent....

I remember waiting on WOW...and it getting delayed like 2 times....

Considering all RR has ever said was that they were hoping for a Q2 release...I don't think the delay is anything that is not common to like almost every game...including the big mega corps with hundreds of employees...image

Why does everyone here like to broadcast how long they've been playing MMO's? Here's a newsflash:

Playing games since 1970 doesn't make you smart. It makes you OLD. Learn to move on.

And for the record, I think this game will be ok. They are not promising the world like DnL did, so I expect a decent launch eventually. As to anyone still being interested a year from now though...that's another story altogether.

The difference between say WOW and The Chronical delaying is the fact that WOW and most other MMO’s didn’t sell pre-orders based upon the business model aimed at creating games at a fast pace without significant delays. That’s is why it is pertinent.

  • FergRedbeardFergRedbeard Member Posts: 69

Actually....WOW did sell pre-orders....I tried to get one but they were sold out.  And as far as a significant delay...well it's still Q2 so technically they arn't even late based on their first guess at a release date....

So....not even a delay let alone a significant delay...

So perhaps....wait just a bit longer before whining....right now it's not justified

Either you don't know or are ignoring the history of the beta release of this game. The beta was suppose to be in NOV. and just two weeks before the announced date of the beta the lead designer gave an interveiw talking about how they were on schedual, the engine was great, their general business model ect. 2-3 weeks after that they announced the engine change (after the beta date had come and gone). A few days later the Lead designer did an interveiw with MMORPG.com stating that the engine switch would delay the beta no longer then the beginning of febuary (obviously it's past that). There was never any "public" follow up about that statment leaving people in limbo until the Q2 date was given (in March).

How can this show anything, but a complete lack of understanding about the progress of the game by the "Lead designer." These aren't just delays over an estimate that had been given over the time period of years, but meer weeks in the future. The difference between the pre-orders given by WOW then TC is that players had an expectation of WOW's release and WOW's hype was due top there name recognition. While, TC the players had an expectation based upon the company's hype, which they not only failed to meet, but has illustrated significant inexperince in the process.

Now they have a Q2 timeline and based upon the information given (and not given) I don't think they will meet that either (by the end of June).

I'll grant you the old information.  I only started following this in February.  So...I never did see the original time scale...I guess I only saw the updated time guesses.

Still...WOW by Blizzard (money making company released many smash hits) being late is worse than a fledgling game company that hasn't produced a single thing yet.  Now....if they don't pull it together in the next 5 or 6 months then yeah....that's worse.

However...Blizzard...as an experienced game company with a large budget and lots of staff missed their original release date by 11 months.  Almost an entire year!! And yet...people are being more critical of a group of people who basically new to this?

Personally...I think the "veterans" should be criticized more than the "rookie" who talks some smack about releasing lots of games quickly.

That's all I'm saying...is that Blizzard with WOW was WWAAAYYY late...but people gave them slack cause of name recognition.  People should give the small guys slack until they get their feet wet atleast.

I'm not defending the game, but you guys have your MMO's mixed up.

This game hasn't been in development for years, not even a full year. They switched engines which required some extra time.

Their only real date they posted was 2Q and that's not even passed. I don't expect them to meet that goal but they haven't gone wild with the lies and hype.

Look at Darkfall, now that game has truly been in development for 5+ years and always around the corner. This game has CG posting and being up front with everyone and an actual location with developers working to get a game out.

Not giving them at least a single break is as foolish as thinking that they'll meet their first deadline ever.

I don't ever remeber RR saying Q2. but even if they did that wasn't their only release date, not by a long shot.

That's because the only place that was said was on the Beta Site.  And people don't know how to uphold the NDA.

Rapid reality said they would be able to make this game in 7 months from the start of developement.  Development started in May.  Using their math the game should have been released in January.

The normal development time for a MMORPG is 4-5 years.  How Rapid reality can expect to make a game in 7 months, one year, two years or even 3 years is beyond me.  A shorter development time simply means a shoddier product.  They have to cut out a lot of content.  I highly doubt they will release this game this year.  If they do my expectations is it will be pretty bad.  DnL seems ready to set the standard for worst MMORPG ever released next month.  Rapid Reality might be intent on breaking that record.  Although I can't imagine any game ever being worse than DnL.

All this being said I like the devlopers at Rapid Reality.  They are quite open, good communicators and very ambitious.  I just seriously dounb they can make a game anywhere near as good as a normal mmorpg in 25% of the development tiome and at a fraction of the cost.  Low budget generally means low quality.  Short developemnt time generally means a shell of a game.  Low budget and a short development time most likely means very very bad.  I hope they take thier time and release this game when its ready to be released in 4 years.  2010 would be a much better release date.  They have good ideas and I hope thye take the time to develop them.
