Remember how star star marine was supposed to be more lethal then call of duty?
Sounds like, from what Erillion has shared, that there will be permadeath... that is pretty hardcore/lethal. Actually, probably too hardcore for me... I do well in PVP, but rarely am I flawless.
Not sure it was meant that way but anyway here's the quote I'm talking about.
As part of the first "10 from the Chairman" video of 2016 (below), Roberts was asked if Star Citizen's FPS module, called Star Marine, will offer the ability to play with stealth in mind.
Yes it will, Roberts said.
"Absolutely. That is part of the core design," Roberts said in the video, courtesy of atranscript from Imperial News. "We are trying to make the FPS gameplay itself be more tactical, less just 'run and gun.' Especially since it is more lethal than you would normally expect with a Call of Duty or something."

There's some mechanics that still haven't been implemented yet, such as the breathing mechanic.
Another thing to consider, is Arena Commander, the TTK in there is drastically lower than it is in the PU to generate that Call of Duty "die, respawn, repeat" mechanic for a multiplayer arena. Can't say for sure, but that could very well be the same thing Star Marine.
What I can say is things do slow down quite a bit when you try and jack someones ship, clearing out a Starfarer of several players can be a dangerous proposition.

It might be a mechanic that still needs to be implemented but the claims of it being more tactical and less run and gun are false since the videos I see are very run and gun and generally what looks to be a poorly made fps in a fps engine.
Yeah both the FPS and Star Marine (kinda same thing) are actively under development. The stuff being shown under works goes in the direction of its promised gameplay pace, with things like Stamina/breathing, suit punctures, gadgets, heavy armor (and armor customization), new covers, etc...
So that is all stuff that will impact how tactical and fast paced the FPS will be as it continues dev.

Just as AC before it, SM is the test bed for FPS. When they look at it and say "this is done" then i'll pass final judgement.
As my post also pointed out, SM and AC are arcade games within a game. Just going to Kareah instead can drastically change the experience.

Can you still go outside in just your underwear or have they fixed that yet? Lol can't really do suit punctures if you aren't wearing a suit eh?

Have not seen any "naked in vacuum" videos recently. Such is the nature of Alpha tests. I am glad someone found that bug .. and it will be fixed before launch (or maybe CIG already did it).

There will always be the simpod training simulation for PvP. In the game the "Star Marine" FPS simulator is a game within a game.
And in the simpod you can die as often as you want. No consequences. You can train FPS as much as you want.
And ship combat can be trained in the "Arena Commander" simpod game. You can lose your ship as often as you want. Try any maneuver, any tactic. Without the risk of losing assets "for real".

Permadeath is a bit of a roleplaying mechanic, while you indeed can die several times and the whole thing as "scars", and bionic limbs to show the damage to your body will appear... when you die your belongings and such will pass to your new character. There's likely to be a loss, but it's not any "start over again".
It's a mechanic that makes sense within the nature that you don't create multiple characters on this game.
Not to be the stick in the mud but you guys are seriously setting yourselves up for disappointment by talking about all these awesome things you want to do in a game that hasn't even implemented them.
Not really, much of what was talked here are actually confirmed promised features, so things like the FPS content, NPC AI Crew, electronic warfare, boarding, is stuff doesn't require a mindset of "hopes and dreams" that it will happen.
It will more about on how exactly will it work because the details change as the designs are fleshed out when it comes to starting implementing said features.
Nice to see these are actual "promised" features and not "We hope" so or "It would be cool" as confirmed by Max. Or at least a pre-edit confirmation.
If they can pull this off, I'll look forward to buying at release.

Do you think there will be any rewards for simpod games?

In Arena Commander ...yes. The in-sim-currency REC to get better equipment in-sim.
For Star Marine ... as yet unknown. I guess they will do something similar.
Maybe some achievments or medals to unlock.
There already IS a rank table for those that are the best AC and SM players. Which is the most important PvP reward of all: bragging rights.

In a game with permadeath mechanics, PvP IS more lethal. No more zerg/respawn.
Have fun
Don't you just respawn in star marine when you die? So you can just Zerg/respawn? Lol
Star Marine is just a training tool without permadeath.
The Persistent Universe PvP however WILL have permadeath. And when you have to generate a new character after 8 zerg respawns, that changes the tactics. 8 respawns is about 2 minutes gaming in Unreal Tournament or similar fast FPS PvP games ;-)

Ok but we aren't talking about the persistent universe. We were talking about star marine and how CR said it was supposed to be about tactics and not run and gun and be more lethal than call of duty. Both points they seem to have failed miserably on
How about waiting until it is finished? With all moves, weapons, equipment and arenas incorporated? Crawling, going up ladders, vaulting over obstacles, taking cover, using decoys, using stealth etc. After proper balancing the final version. What we have at the moment is a first draft- many iterations to follow.

Vaulting, taking cover, sneaking, etc isn't going to make the game more lethal than CoD or any less run and gun. You're going to have to face the facts that CIG created a really shitty fps inside a fps engine and true to form Chris Roberts hyped it up beyond what it could even hope to achieve.

You are going to face the facts that you are talking about a feature in development, incomplete and still being worked on. It is superfluous to make a final judgement at the moment.
Some like it in its current form, others do not (like you).
Even when it is finished opinions may differ. Different people have different preferences.

You call it hype, I call it open development.

Star Marine isn't going to get some magical Jesus patch that suddenly improves the base game. It was designed as a mediocre fps and hyped as the next big thing. The reality is making itself apparent and as long as you don't mind a generic shooter then you will have fun but if you are expecting a game changer then you might be holding your breath for a while

Since when have you suddenly become a psychic and have been able to predict the future? Impressive feat.
For us mere mortals ... i guess we will have to wait and see how the final version will be.

I can't see the future but what I can do is look at Roberts proclivity for hyping things into the stratosphere and then delivering something that barely leaves the ground and then extrapolating from there.
He he has a well known history of over promising and under delivering and he has shown no signs of learning from past mistakes be it during this project or from his previous stint running a game company.
Ill happily admit I was wrong if he delivers some genre changing game that is being praised by the masses and gaming press alike but I don't see it happening.
Hell for now ill even settle for what has he released so far with this project that has pushed the genre forward and done what no one else has tried. I've asked the question a few times and have been met with silence because it's been done before by others or it doesn't exist except for an idea on paper.

Feel free to reiterate what these changes are that are pushing the tech forward and before you try, ideas on paper don't count.
I'll wait.
