I have better things to do than read all the hate filled crap on this thread, so I am going to go do some adult stuff and leave you SOTA haters to whinge and moan of how it's not fair and how hard done by you are.

Sometimes I wonder if old  UO gamers have ever played anything else... ever.  RMT is in plenty of games, so much so that gold farming has become a real international money laundering problem, but that's not what's being talked about here.  It's the fact that all the game is, is RMT and grinding... that's it.  The choice/consequence mechanics in the quests are terrible.  The choice/consequence mechanics in PVP are terrible.  Combat is terrible.  The economy is a joke... there are three seperate online game modes all sharing a single economy that is controlled by RMT and it's RMT sales that the devs watch to balance loot drops and prices.  The game is buying and selling scam and all those old UO gamers as you call them are marks.
You're true I haven't reallly play another other mmos other than UO, nothing came close to waht I was looking for. About your appreciation of the choices/mechanism are all wrong dude, you're lacking knowledge about the game, sorry to bring that to you, but you really do. Anyone saying the combat system sucks proves immediatlely that he doesn't know shit about the game in it's current state. Apart from that I totally agree with the fact that separate online modes should be removed, but hey even though I wouldn't mind at all having only UO community within SotA, they want to bring the highest number of players they can, gotta understand that also.
You also need to know that in-game gold with drop value with time, it's just logical, but they are COTO's within a sub money that backs it up and can control its value, just as the gold standing used to do back in the 70s (I believe?)....As I said man, you lack knowledge.

On combat, don't take my word for it that it sucks... just ask the guy that designed it (Chris Spears) - he agrees it sucks, he agrees in threads and in livestreams all the time and that's why even now just months away from "official release" there's major changes and major balance swings still happening... a year past final wipe now and he just doesn't know how to fix it or make it right.  Combat will make or break a game...  combat alone in SotA is a major fail point - and it's not the only fail point.

As for RMT, the gold standard back in the 70ies had a controlled buy/sell price set by the government.  Hey, you're right that is just how it works in game!  People grind gold and sell it for real money and buy stuff from the add-on store and sell that for gold in game and then sell the gold for real money again!  OMG!  You figured it out!  <sarcasm>

The devs use the RMT prices to control drop rates... they've even gone so far as to say they'll make mining oar easier to do once people sell all the swords and shields that they have hoarded away... They've said they monitor trade prices and adjust drops to keep things at a target price.  This is an artificial player market!  Just check their Trusted Traded program... you can buy gold direct from a Portalarium authorized Trusted Trader and Business Partner.

Portalarium didn't just give you a completely artificial player market to manage RMT with, they officially sanctioned RMT and gold farming and use it to balance the entire economy and loot drops and even went so far as to contract with OFFICIAL BUSINESS PARTNERS to sell gold in game!  Trusted Traders... read about it.

le sigh... The COTO was supposed to be a premium currency to be used to stave off hyper-inflation... it is not a premium currency in this regard.  It is an alternate currency for RMT, in a completely controlled environment...  where's the fun in that?  Where's the integrity?

Integrity is a word this team will never have associated with them. Snake oil salesmen is a more appropriate definition of them.

Actually I am one of the most articulate person in this forum and I try to reason with everyone with respect even though I am quite a straight talker.
In 15 years of gaming I've never been banned from any Forum, and I was massively active in nasty Forums like Darkfall, BDO, WoW, Archeage, and Reddit to name few.

I rarely reply with one liners, I usually write walls of text because I believe intelligent people deserve an appropriate reply even if I disagree with them.
But when people like you start writing one liners with veiled insults to everyone that disagree with them avoiding to debate the actual issues, I have no problem lowering myself to their level, in fact, as you might have noticed, I am quite confortable with this level of conversation as I had years of training.
If you want respect, learn how to respect first.

See, I could have written a sarcastic one liner to dismiss your comment, but I actually took my time to explain my thoughts, like I usually do.

    No dude, don't even try.
It's not about the word "Ally" i got what you were trying to say, if you said "someone that agree with me" instead, I would have said the same thing.
Counting how many people agree with you to win an argument it's childish, you need to convince people with your reasons, not by pointing out how many people agree with you.
Unfortunately your reasons are the same tired excuses you keep repeating over and over again.

That wouldn't be childish, that would be plain stupid, we ain't doing a pool here and you know it. I previously said in a post why I called him "ally", maybe you missed it, but I've talked about the "different points of you" that someone had "on a same subject" which could bring "different types of arguments" which would support the "same view"...which makes him an ally...YOU, don't try.

On combat: I'm tired, but still i'll repeat, stop taking words from anyone and learn before opening it...if you REALLY think that the combat sucks, after knowing how deep it is, how it works and how it bind to other things...well there's one thing for you, PvP in UO wasn't something big for you, you probably were like a smith or something and I do respect that, but hey if that's the case, don't speak about something you don't even know. As you said "combat can break or make a game", and I would liiiike to only focus on this point if everybody in this conversation, on your aside, agrees with this statement, let stop spreading all over and concentrate on that core mechanic if you want and start bring some points that would show where it sucks, cuz my 2 videos I provided in my previous post in the thread should normally be enough for you, so you can start seeing the potential it has. People are currently complaining not because the system sucks, but either because they don't fully understand it or because they find it too hard, cuz it rewards skilled players and gives them an edge.

On the gold standard: Once again, don't speak about something you don't know and therefore spread unthruths. I won't go into details here, but golld standard was based on gold obviously and it was controlled true. BUT never was controlled by govnerments. You see, since gold has a finite amount on earth, it's controlled by it's amount over the demand for it, never by govnerments. True that today, gold's value is controlled "by someone", which isn't and never was "the govnerment" thruth creation of gold papers (or promises)...but again this ain't the subject here.

On RTM Controlled by dev: The same way the gold was controlled by the demand VS supply, devs HAVE to assume this role. This "artificial player market" is simulation of the real world, can't you see it, how is this bad?!?

Another proof that you're speaking of thing you don't know: There is NO SUCH THING AS GRINDING GOLD in this game, not at this current state of the game and there will never be. You can't just repeat "one simple action" i.e: kill a certain mob and make a ton of cash, this ins't how the game is designed. The easieset way I found yet to make as much money I can with a minimum of effort if doing agriculture. The game is so deeply designed that it made me work on an Excel spreadsheet for weeks (and it's not even done) in order to see if agriculture was worth doing and how to take the most of it...

I'm starting to be really tired of you guys how speak about things you don't know and spread it like truths. Again, you probably don't even know how to level up your character...as every aspect of this game that I've experiemented yet, it's been deeply thought and the amount of knowledge that surrounds them is vast...either you get some help of the guys that found how these mechanics work or you take your balls and do it on your own "as start as a noob has you would have done in UO, but knowing that the mechnisms are way more complicated"....OR, what you all seem to have done....tried it some point (probably a less polished mechanism than currently) or if recently could get you head around it and decree that it was suck.

Wow, why am I still losing energy in here...

But most of the time you'll get a better price for the same game on Steam vs GOG when the sale hits.  Not all of the time, but most of the time that seems to be the case in my experience.

I like both GOG and Steam.  For older games I prefer GOG but for newer games I like Steam.  I like that Steam tracks how many hours you've played a game; I'm interested in knowing how much I waste, lol. :)
Steam is about to get a massive overhaul , making it a more fluid experience , with much better UI /Search tools/Recomendations /Interest..etc..

RMT as it is in SotA totally directs the game to a mature audience, US, old UO players. I've explained this in a previous post.
Except that I've already debunked that. Anyone with a single brain cell in their otherwise empty skulls could debunk that.

It isn't a system for adults. Adults have jobs and bills to pay. They don't have money to spend on RMT schemes on virtual houses, let alone in a shit game with a low playerbase.

It also isn't a wealthy crowd because the profit to be gained from SotA RMT is insignificant compared to what could much more easily be made on the stock market.

No, this is a system for the gullible. The man-children who never grew up, don't understand the value of money, or, even worse, I suspect, have stolen the credit card information of others and are using SotA to launder money.
I must admit that I never put a dime in a game, except for monthly UO fees. I always been againts it, so yeah I do not know what RMT really is or I should say what this term refers to exactly. BUT if RMT is the closest term that can be used for what SotA is doing, then be it RMT and it's well done.

Let me also debunk your theory of RMT ( as I see it, AS IT IS in SotA) about adults. Adults have less time than teenagers, but also have more money. Of course they hardly own money shoulldn't go into scams, but it ain't a scam or not intended I believe, at worst will be a bad investment if the game dies. In which way an normal adult, which isn't unemployed with 4 children, who likes to play a good game, won't be attracked with the possibilty of making real money out of fun play time and therefore give more to his family....this is a win-win-win situation right there.

It's still a poor argument. Adults have more money, but the money of a teenager/child is much more expendable. Unless we're bringing in possible expenses like a car note or saving for college, a young audience generally has more leeway and less risk involved in making game purchases. Hell, growing up, games and consoles were generally where most of my money went.

As an adult, things are different. You make more money, but most of it is already locked behind bills. If you have a spouse or children, things get even more complicated. The risk of overspending on entertainment becomes much greater, and you have to budget more.

Hell, we see evidence of this all the time. As the core demographic of gamers gets older, the shift from hard game copies to digital Steam keys on heavy discount is becoming more and more popular. Digital sales are now speculated to make up the bulk of the market in large part for this very reason. Gaming is a popular hobby, but it's also an expensive one, and gamers are becoming more frugal, not less, with age.

And no, it isn't an attractive prospect to maybe make money gambling on virtual items. Just look at Diablo 3. Sure, its auction house made money, as suckers spent good money on digital weapons, but it irreversibly killed the game's population. Once the hype died down, the auction house was given the boot, and, despite a rather excellent expansion, Diablo 3 has never fully recovered from the damage done to it in its vanilla release. It was designed so heavily around the auction house, and that killed the experience for everyone outside of a small subset of RMT whales and those hoping to get a lucky expensive drop.

And, if, for some reason, you do consider it to be an attractive prospect, I have a challenge for you. Why don't you go tell your family that you are considering investing hundreds of dollars on a castle in Shroud of the Avatar? You'll find their reaction interesting.

This has to be the most derailed thread ever.
I expect people starting to share their Pancakes secret recipe any time soon now.
Let's see how long can we keep it going before it is locked.

    ....and still going.

First example, I was replying to @Kyleran which is a mate, that was banter.
I hope you know what that is.
Even though we might have different opinions, he is one of the members I respect the most, because he knows how to debate and how to make his point clear without insulting people.
And again we don't always agree on things.

Second example, I don't even understand where is the problem.
One guy made a thread, people started to derail his thread straight away and ganged on him.
My post was sarcastic and it was meant to defuse the tension between the OP and the others.
If you don't get the sarcasm I will translate it for you.
"The derailing of this thread is so bad that soon people will start talking about totally unrelated bullshit (Ex: Pancakes). Let's see how long will it take for the Mods to lock this thread."
    That's me being nasty?

See, you are more worried about character assassination than actually discuss SotA and its issues (or virtues in your case), then you complain that I am nasty to you.
    Do you blame me?

PS: If you look back at your last 10-15 posts you will realize it's all an attempt to mock people who don't agree with you in a way or another, there is very little interest in actually defending the game with good arguments.

Wow am shocked, really thought that those that have been so vocale would give a good discussion and would come back with good sound evidence to back up all the shouting that they are doing....... Nada nothing all they do is edit their posts in the hope of keeping some face, but they forget that they unedited version are already quoted. Which proves one thing to me, all those that are shouting must be banned SOTA players that must have trolled the crap out of the SOTA forums, so came to vent their rage here, and that is very sad :(

Did you miss the links to the steam sales and numbers or are you just going to dismiss the largest digital PC sales platform on the internet?
I looked but is only a small fraction of the player base, so fail to see what impact steam has on the whole picture, to base any relevance to those figures is just lunacy, you can not look through a keyhole and then claim that you have seen the whole house, and those that are doing so, look and are very foolish as far as I am concerned.

The "largest digital PC sales platform on the internet?" ROFLMAO and what are you basing that on?
Well, there is this recent article.

    https://www.lifewire.com/top-pc-game-digital-download-services-813065

Steam is clearly at the top of the author's list.

But I will concede that in all the searches that I have done, it does come top, it's not my top choice, as I prefer Origin, GOG and Green man Gaming.
I based it on reality. Steam has an estimated 75% of the market place.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_(software)

I'm  not a Steam fan either.  Finally got around to loading it on my "new" gaming laptop (I've owned it for over 3 years) and wishlisting a bunch of titles over the weekend.

When I went to make my first purchase I paused and found the same title on GOT for the same price I bought it there instead.

I like GOGs no DRM policy, even though I decided install their player anyway.

    I like having options  B)
But most of the time you'll get a better price for the same game on Steam vs GOG when the sale hits.  Not all of the time, but most of the time that seems to be the case in my experience.

I like both GOG and Steam.  For older games I prefer GOG but for newer games I like Steam.  I like that Steam tracks how many hours you've played a game; I'm interested in knowing how much I waste, lol. :)
You'll be glad to know Gogs optional Galaxy loader tracks your playing time, just like Steam.

Even though i haven't fully understand the part of your 3rd paragraph, RMT in SotA ioos nothing like Diablo 3's., nothing at all. SotA is something so new RG is trying to push out, yeah from the outside you might this is recycled ideas, but looking closely, you'll see how innovative that man really is (if don't really know it by now). It's like I would invent a flying car. Yeah if you look from the outside it's just another looking car, but when you discover that it can flys, that's where you realized how much it took to bring a single car to a flying car.

I don't know how old you are but I couldn't offer games when I was a teenager...maybe cuz not all of it was dedicated to games as it is today (little bit exagerating on purpose here about the new generations)

As for the thing about money and being an adult and have some responsabilities, true man...I do not know tour financial situation, but of course I can admit that a lot of us, old UO player, wouldn't have the liberty of spending 12K on a pledge. RMT is no gamble in this game, you will have to have knowledge in order to make money (appart from those who invested a lot only to sell it back and make profit), I'm speaking making money of fun playtime. Just for an example, a guildmate found a "heart of vul" for 15K on a vendor. This sells for quite a bit, for RL money but the seller wasn't aware of this. At the end my friend made 17$USD out of it. How bad is this?????? tell me, tell me please. This RMT system is SotA is like stock exchange, market goes up and down, you need to be able to know what you're selling and when you sell it to make the best outcome out of it. All this new "stock market" dimension taken to another level is just yet "another" way to play the game...again, how is it bad?

Wow, why am I still losing energy in here...

Because SotA sucks and you have plenty of spare time?

I feel sorry that you had gotten into an argument with him. This guy brings nothing to the discussion and doesn't help. Why I jumped into that thread: Sharing my vision of SotA and help turn around the view of the ones who really want the game to be good....cuz it's good! I would have hoped you could have given me hand on that goal, but hey I'm not telling you what to do here bro, I just feel that the ones on the other side with good will and open mind deserves our time and energy, not people like ste2000 who is trolling, accusing us of something we didn't say, etc...let's just totally ignore people like him (not good willing and not open minded to say the least). He's wasting our time, energy and effort and brings down the whole discussion to a "you're like that, I'm like that" kind of discussion, when it's not the point at all to make here.

If you decide to just quite the discussion, or stay within that arguing with ste2000 and therefore do not change the direction of your efforts towards my goal (showing them that they have to give the game another chance and give them all the tools require to see the game for what it is),hey man I won't blame you at all:). I got some much currently happening in my life right now, but still I take the time and energy to try to defend the game cuz I truly feel in my heart that this game deserve to live and succeed, but I won't be able to do it alone anymore, so as I said if you quit or if we don't join our effort together towards the same goal, I'm also quitting. I have given enough alone already I'm exhausted.

Be safe my friend and take care, I hope you hang around but if you don't then don't worry, I don't see this thread getting much better, not with all the doomsayers on it. if you ever need anything in game and I'm around message me and I'll do all I can to help you, my char is Royou.

I know almost nothing about this game.  But this level of hatred is amusing.  Now I'm going to have to watch a youtube video of the gameplay.
