This game has actually raised $163 million from 2 million people??? $163 million?? Is this the most expensive game ever?

Nah, not 2 million people. That's just the number of forum accounts. There's probably 1 million paying backers, if that.

Makes me feel like a fossil for being account/backer# 40117

We all knew creating such a world can be possible, but the problem is to make it playable, to have strong enough servers to run it, but as time passes, technology does advance, i won't be surprised if they will leave the network code whatever to be one of the last things they do, waiting for technology to catch up with the ambitious game design.

Leaving network code to be last is not possible because they need to be able to test how their designs work in practice.

Well, i don't think they are in a hurry, but let's see.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

Ok, so servers are currently capped at around 120,and that as well is just in testing unstable stage yet.
I'm just wondering, was a mega server part of the promises to the backers?
Even if they reach 1,000 players per seever, the universe is too vast? Surely it will feel very empty?
I'm pretty sure a mega server was promised, that's what made SC so special. Other than that, pretty cool I guess, looks like they are barely half way through of having a proper game ready.
Would be sad to see it turn into a survival server based space sim.

3.0 created a lot of space and areas but as a game it looks very empty, feels like they spent so much time and energy to make the tech work that there was no time to fill it with worthwhile things to do.

You are right, but the focus of 3.0 isn't content. The focus is creating a framework for the future patches. 3.0 is a framework for future patches.

Funny that THE MAN himself, aka C. Roberts speaks about 3.0 as the next Jesus Patch, not as a "framework". Especially when you remember feature list from 2016 Citizen Con... People have such a short memory.

He calls it an "Early Access" level of release. How is that a Jesus patch level of talk? Lol. THe playable PTU right now doesn't even have all of the content. Only the evoicati have the latest build

So you keep everything you have earned from the game? That is there won't be a separate or newly introduced part of the game? Was debating trying this game out, but not sure as of yet. Need something other than the tactical tediousness of EVE Online.

INSTANCES  are capped (with the cap going up as the project moves along).

Like EVE there is only one server for all.

You will find a lot of YourTube videos explaining the different levels of instances in SC.

    Have fun

    1) No, it's years away from a proper release.
    2) There will be thousands of players with more and better ships than you in the beginning.
That might not affect your experience if they manage to balance the ships but this is CIG so don't get your hopes high.

I wouldn't listen to this uninformed person. NO ONE can really know the timeline for this game except CIG themselves. Releasing the current build (3.0) to the PTU already surprised every troll and pleasingly impressed everyone else. Live release of 3.0 is now just around the corner. The game is still under development so be patient. I suggest if you're planning to play or give the game a try, to do so with an open mind...it's going to be awesome!
So having a fraction of promised features implemented in the last 5+ years means the game is not years away from release? Is that what I got wrong?

Wait, only the trolls were unimpressed by the alpha 3.0 release and EVERYONE else was impressed?

I like how you call me uniformed for using informed criticism but the guy saying SQ42 will probably be out in 7 months is ok with you.

You guys always love lying to defend this game, why would you stop now :)
The largest one you've said is that CIG themselves know when the timeline for release.
The company that went from 2 weeks a 12+ month delay.

    ..Cake..

50 is the current cap in 3.0

A mesh server design is the ultimate plan, it would feature transparent instances where everything can flow from one to another, ie missiles can be fired at a ship in a different instance and can travel between the two without encountering any errors.

It should be noted they have not started any work on the mesh server yet.

    Have fun

Instances refer to in game separation and there is none of that. If you have 50 players on your shard they can all meet up in the same location with zero instancing.
Technically a shard is an instance on a server but why complicate matters :)

    - the money raised is 167 million now
    - when on a sale promotion You can get a starter package for 38€ to check it out. Next sale with reduced prices for starter packages is next friday, dec. 1st.
    - big and expensive ships are multicrew and multiplayer-ships and can't be flown and operated solo in an efficient way. They are ships for bigger guilds, groups and crews.

I waited four years and just recently bought my first basic starter package to check it out. And I think we slowly start to get there. V. 3.0 is an important milestone where many aspects and frameworks of the game come together in an early playable build. It can only get better from there, now with 350+ people working on it.

If You'll like a single persistant world SciFi Space Sandbox MMO where You can build spaceships, stations and bases Yourself check out "Dual Universe".

Star Citizen and Dual Universe are the most promising and interesting SciFi space sandbox MMO-projects ever created!
