I played the game during beta, and then close to when it closed.  The game was average at best and desevred it's fate.  Get a life and move on.

Hohbein, you have attacked this form twice almost as if EnB gave you a tumor or something.    Hehe, chill bro.  If it wasn't your cup of tea, that's cool.  Don't go insaneo loco on here and totally diss everything.  A lot of people enjoyed it and though it was a great lil' game to grace the MMORPG community.

n25philly, dude, why the personal attacks?  I mean if you dissagree with the whole topic, don't read it.  If there is a community of people who wish that this game would make a return, what's so bad about that?  If you didn't like it, just like Hohbein, that's cool and all.  We all got our preferences.  However, don't attack the people who would want to play it again.

MMORPG is weird in a way.  Sometime you have an urge to play an old game.  For example, Doom's been around for 12 years now or something.  I still fire it up (now play Skulltag - multiplayer version) and enjoy it.  EnB is simply gone and those urges the community still has to play cannot be satisfied.  We enjoyed it, we would like to have it back.  That's all.  If you think that is a bad thing, ahh well...

Im all for EnB opening up it's doors again. would love it actually. was my first beta and i think out of all the betas i have done since then EnB was the best and most time consuming. easy to forget the next day has already arrived.

As for X3, i wouldnt touch that game with a 10 foot hard drive. i dont think anyone here should put that crap on their system unless of course you like having starforce copy protection virus on there.
lost a burner because of it. lots of people have lost more than that having starforce on their system. im sure if you google starforce you will see why.

anyways please bring Earth and Beyond back.

I was so sad when EnB was taken offline.  When the game died, I was there, to the last moment until the server connection was lost.  Twas a sad day.

The problem with EnB's cancellation is two-fold.
    1.  EnB was a great game
    2.  There is an EXTREME dearth of MMO games that are sci-fi based.

I started playing Planetside again not only because it is a great game, but also because it is obviously sci-fi based, and I can't stand EVE.

EVE is crap in comparrison to EnB...and that is comming from someone who has played EVE off and on since the EnB closure announcement. Any game where mining is the basis for the economy makes me want to sleep. And the combat is totally pointless... Like I have said on many many many forums, and will continue to say untill it it brought back.... GIVE ME BACK MY GALAXY!

I miss my guild from ENB .

I was know as bringerofdeath to my guild which was  Order Of Chivalry on the Andromeda server.

A few of us moved to eve when enb died

Eve destroyed our guild. What used to be compasion for one another, generousity, good will and kindness quickly became tainted in eve until the guild destroyed itself from within.

I warned them not to go to Eve but noone listened.

I really enjoyed EnB.  I played the game almost the entire time it was up and running.  I’d like to address a few comments mentioned here, except for the obvious flame baiting.

It’s true EnB wasn’t really a PvP game beyond arena “duels.”  It was a fantastic PvE game that was playable solo or in groups.  There was no shortage of challenging enemies you could seek out no matter how powerful your group was, but the game also had good content that could let a person play a more relaxed game (mining/salvaging, a good build system, quests, loots, and typical MMO missions/trade).  There was also great high end content (and continued but slower skill improvement) that kept me busy and having fun after reaching max level.  You also got 5 characters that could all be played on the same server.

As for the ships and their customization, the hull (or one of the other 2 sections) did gain extra features after XX level as Volkmar stated, but you also had the option to choose between 3 hull lines, 3 professions sections, and 3 wing varieties.  When the game was up there were 6 playable race/profession combos, and the game had all the models and skills completed for 3 additional playable selections.  These last 3 never got “turned on” in the game.

The story line did evolve and new content and playable areas were made available, without having to buy an expansion I might add.  Apart from affecting certain game areas, it’s true you didn’t need to get involved in the story if you chose not to, but I prefer it that way myself.  I like to roam around in a game and get involved when it appeals to me to do so.

I’ve tried Vendetta.  It’s not a bad game but in my opinion, the best part of the game was that it vaguely resembled EnB.  I did liked the mining system a lot, but there was no crafting system to go with it.  Everything is disposable.  I haven’t tried Jumpgate so I can’t speak for that one.  In my opinion EnB was a far better game than Vendetta.

I’ve also tried Eve.  I think that’s one of those games you’ll either love or loath.  I didn’t like it despite the fact that the game looked great.  With the always-on PvP and frequent ganking, the game also can be very frustrating.  I frequently like to kick back in my games.  I don’t want to have to be always on guard.  The excellent skill set is also built up in realtime, so a new player could never hope to catch up to the old vets.

I’ve tried X3’s demo.  I think I’ll hold out to let you all beta test that one for me.  Besides, the game has a huge graphics requirement that will require me to upgrade to fully enjoy the game.  Even if everything was right with the game, I’d still much rather play EnB.  EnB had the best community I’ve encountered and I enjoy playing with friends.  As was already mentioned, X3 isn’t a MMO.

As for EA and SOE, I’m not a big fan of either.  If I had my way, Westwood would still be its own company and SOE wouldn’t have butchered SWG (another game I played for a while).  I already mentioned EnB content was added without the customer having to buy expansions.  Both games charged a monthly fee, so if anything SOE was sticking it to their customers harder by charging for content.  EA gave us 6 months notice and pulled the plug on EnB, SOE gave the players a single month notice and dumped a game-ruining complete overhaul on SWG.  You can decide for yourself which you consider worse.

EA the Ogre didn’t make this game.  EA couldn’t make a game this cool.  EA acquired Westwood, clonked it over the head, started eating the brains, and when it noticed Westwood had given birth to a wonderful game, it stepped on it.

Oh big deal.. we found out something we already knew.. Starforce does not (usually) PHYSICALLY damage drives.

But it does majorly hamper the speed of whatever drive your using to play the game on.

And they are in charge of that whole thing.. so it really doesn't matter what people submit.

Hmmm, I didn’t know anything about the CP software.  Just out of curiosity, will Starforce uninstall with the game or am I stuck with it?

To those EVE addicts that say EVE was/is better than E&B I would point out that fully HALF of EVE's population, prior to last year when SWG started to collapse, migrated to it AFTER E&B closed up shop.  So obviously it's NOT better or they'd have already been playing EVE and not E&B.

    Prior to E&B's demise:
    EVE: 35,000 pop approx
    E&B: 37,000 pop approx

So if you honestly think EVE was the better game you need to figure out why the above figure is undeniable fact.  Don't believe it?  Go check out MMORPGCHART.COM and look at the timelines for the two games.  EVE jumped to approx 55,000-60,000 shortly after E&B  closed down because EVE offered E&B refugees a 'free transition' to EVE.

Earth and Beyond was an awesome game and appealed to me far more than EVE. I loved the quest lines and the travel and how it started from earth. Thanks for the post and the screenshots, I loved looking at them.

First of Eve and EnB are not alike except they take place in space.

I always use the anology: EnB is like checkers, Eve is like Chess.

What it comes down to is the Earth and Beyond had a storyline and character development never seen before or since. It was like being part of a book and every patch would be a new chapter. EA stopped that book without ever telling the ending and for that reason they suck.

Sorry but ive been playing X3 almost since its release and i have NOT experienced any slow downs on any drive in my system.

As a matter of fact i have all settings set to the max and it runs smoothly.

What i find ironic is that 1st you say you "lost" a burner then you say that it doesnt "physically" damage drives and then it slows down whatever drive its using to play the game.

Dont mean to pick on it but i think X3 has gotten a bad rep as a piece of spyware.Ive not had any of these issues happen to me in the time ive been playing it.

I played it in beta and when it released.  It was alright when It was new and everyone was leveling together.  However, it got boring and old really fast.  It's dead for a reason.

I have no problem with people that didn’t care for the game.  No game will satisfy everyone, but there are many people that loved EnB and for different reasons.  I strongly disagree with the notion that EnB died because it was a poor game.  The game’s been gone for almost two years and still has an active community.  Check out the major game reviewers opinions on EnB that I’ve posted on my website.  They all gave the game high marks.

Consider that after acquiring Westwood, EA never advertised the game.  EnB was a new venture.  There was no Star Wars/Star Trek like fans waiting for it.  Most of the people that played the game either stumbled across it or had it recommended by a friend.  It had to build up its own player base without any fanfare.  Shortly after the game’s launch they moved most of the dev team to other projects, this likely being the reason they acquired Westwood in the first place.  The reason EnB met a very early death is the lack of support if not disdain it received from EA.  You can’t expect a space game to do well under these conditions, yet EnB still nearly hit 40K subscribers.

The EnB community continues to hope the suits over at EA will give the game a second look and perhaps consider that they gave the game a bum wrap.  For those of you that liked the game and would enjoy having it back, please drop by and show it some love while we’ve got EA’s attention.  Here’s the link to the thread at EA that’s restarted people’s hopes.

I’ve held a total of 4 accounts, though not all four at the same time, and had access to a 5thIf the game came back I’d have at least two accounts again, and many of my friends would as well.  EnB was great fun to play on two machines.  Things would have been very different had Westwood not been absorbed into the belly of the beast.  There’s a lot to be said for smaller game developers that are passionate about their products.  Must be the sleep the devs are allowed to get.

Also make sure you check out some videos of EnB so you have a kind of idea what the game looks like.  Some can be found on Westwood's FTP site found here:

Directory containing the videos can be found here:

I'm not sure what irritated me the m ost about the game.  It was a grind and actually walking around a station with a character was rather pointless.

I hated that I had to get on the phone to cancel my subscription and then explain over and over that no I didn't want 2 free months and no there added content wasn't enough.

  • MidnightwineMidnightwine Member Posts: 1

Yes, I would absolutely start playing again.  It was by far my favorite MMORPG.   Met some wonderful people, had some wonderful adventures - loved it!

    Please bring it back!
