I only played WoW so it is my favorite and least favorite MMORPG. But seriously, for WoW to have 40% of the MMO population it has to be the best one out there. Anyway, what's the point of a video game other than to delude you as long as possible into believing the game is actually worth it.
Like DDO in the first week made you realize how much it sucked, for most people, WoW made us take 2-6 months before we realized how much it sucked. So for games out there, the ones that take the longest time to realize how much they suck are the winners.
And blizzard stole ideas . . . Dude every MMO has to have a basis and every game copies another game. How many FPS clones were there after wolfenstein. Are you going to bash doom, quake, etc for stealing ideas?
A MMO has a basis to it, there is a set style in an MMO, the one that implements it the best with nice features is the winner.
You expected more from Blizzard . . . Dude, starcraft was a top ten seller for like 4 years and WoW has the most subscribers almost 6:1. WoW has 40% of the MMO population and you expect more from them.
The reason you quit playing WoW was because it was created to be a mass appeal game that got more people involved and not necessarily one that keeps players hooked for long periods of time.

EVE Online would get my vote for most boring but since this was worst I would have to say that DDO is easily the worst MMO ever. For so many reasons, SWG deserves an honorable mention just for how badly SoE screwed up what should have been great - but turbine has made the most shortsighted and pitifully poor excuse for an MMO ever, IMHO.

That doesn't sound right ... or maybe I just can't figure out how games like tetris or planescape: torment suck...

Let's not start speaking for the motivations of others. Besides, the game is definitely not casual-friendly anymore. It's all raids, instances, and pvp after 49.

I agree, usually i don't speak for others, my bad. Sometimes, I have to let my inner-noob out. He gets feisty if he doesn't come out sometimes.

but if i had to pic one i liked the least it woudl be dofus especialy sicne the free mebers got liek NOTHING
and, what realy was bad, is that your limetid to what your charater is, like its either a wizard or a ranger or a leather crafter of a bow maker and things like that. MY favorite is runescape, its the opposite of this.
Well there should be 2 categories, worst game released and worst game "almost" released... for the worst game i will select WoW, for giving me so much fun till lvl 60 and then taking it away... i hate it from the bottom of my heart. For "almost" released there is 2 very close on their crappiness, IRTH online and SoG/DnL, so bad i bet they are used as torture...
To me it is just a very boring game. You have to be a member to do a lot of the good things and if you're not you can't really do much. Also, the game does not really capture my interest because it is a game based on puzzles. For example, a lot of the games or things that you do in that game have to be done through puzzles and i don't really like that. I think that Puzzle Pirates is a really bad game.
Tbh, the reason that WoW has 40% of the MMO population (not sure if it really is 40%, but I think it sounds about right so ) is because Blizzard made it. They could basically have released a Tetris-remake and still sold 6 million copys of it. That's how famous blizzard is from their old games that they released previously. And even if games like quake etc. took after wolfenstein, it's still not the same as WoW. Almost every MMORPG that's about to get released or got released recently have some new "unique" future to it, because "regular" companys that aren't as famous as Blizzard are and already have their HUGE crowd of fans from before, they NEED some new ideas for their games to get players subscribing.
EDIT: As a "proof" of this, I have alot of friends who had never tried any MMO before WoW,
and they were very firm in their beliefs that paying monthly fee's for a game was a waste of cash and stupid, something they would never do. But when WoW came, they all got it without even trying it
out simply because it was Warcraft and Blizzard ^^
Also as a sidenote, I'm happy to see that not 1 person has mentioned DAoC as a worst game
The Matrix Online - Beta tested and played it for a while, tons of bugs, shitty customer support (SOE no wonder), ban-happy GMs, repetitive as it gets, mediocre graphics. The only thing that kept me playing this game were the community and live events, once SOE bought it, forget live events.
World of Warcraft - Same as MxO, a bit more of content but shittier graphics. The community there made me wish there wasn't one.
CoV/H - The game ends after the character customization.
L2, GW, RF, etc - Is there a way to difference all these asian craps?
Well it seems that every game has already been bashed, which is good means there is a lot of room of improvement and some of us disagree with each other which is also good because then it would be boring.
For me THE WORST MMO would be SWG or WoW. I would say GW but I dont consider GW to be MMO at all, just a collection of instances.
SWG well I played at the realse and it was really nice, there were bugs and there were problems but overall fun level was amazing. Now it is just a pile of broken dreams and promices.
WoW - cant say I hate it but I just find it stupid. I have played it for about 7 months, I got to 60, I got full set of might, I grinded the BGs then stopped and realized that I was grinding and raiding 4 hours a day to get better items for the sake of going to higher level places and grind for better items and nothing you do will have any effect on the world in the long run so I felt stupid for time wasted and moved on.
Originally posted by donfin EQ by a long shot. I was an avid gamer and knew nothing of MMOs. Friends convinced me to buy EQ and I still to this day do not know what kind of dope they were smoking. The graphics were horrid on the original and I wasn't about to buy an expansion to it. Second, UO. Enough said. What I don't get is those bashing WoW. Ok, maybe not everyone's taste but there's nothing better out there right now.
And when those games were first out their was nothing better out there then. In 1999 those were your choices and they paved the way for WOW and established most of what you see today good and bad. Much has improved especially graphically but you should at least give a nod. Without those two their would be no WOW.
everquest was the unending suck for me i played one wekk and gave it away to 5 different people who all gave it back to me saying the game was unplayable. AC2 was really bad as well.
Beautiful art enfolding the worst excuse for a game ever. Why??? Because:
- Two player models for each gender of class choice make it a world of fantasy clones...
- Basing to-hit on level and damage solely on weapon meant griefers could buy high weapons for new low alts to hang out near town and one-shot everyone.
- Being a port of a Korean game with no changes but language meant that all bugs and exploits which were known and fixed months before were re-released in the west 9 months later.
- Exploiters from the Korean release swarmed the servers using exploits they'd mastered to dominate and abuse, since they weren't fixed here yet.
- No voice for players... since all gameplay decisions on the version you're playing were made 9 months prior... in Korea... the local playerbase has zero say in changes.
- Bot World... more bot players than any game I've ever seen... ever. At times, more bots than humans.
As soon as I hit the character creation screen I had a feeling I was never going to like it, a game I could not wait to pick up once it came out - I think I played only a few times in the first month and just could not get into no matter how I tried.
I just opened up my account a few fays ago to give it another chance and I regreted it within an hour.
Bar NONE Lineage 2 is a stinker among a very worn out crowd of MMOs.
Why?
Player customizablilty. There is none, you can immediatly identify a persons level by their gear, there are very few viable options at every tier level.
Crafting: Basically there is none, and what little there is is limited to ONE player race and 2 crafting classes.
Grind, I have never in my life experianced a bigger grind, at best it is a non-stop (literally) pull and kill fest (if grouped). At worst it is yourelf fighting one mob at a time for hours and hours at a time. If you screw up and die you can easily loose literaly days worth of work.
As mentioned before BOTS, you wouldnt belive the number of bots you see. Full complete groups of them, fully automated to heal, attack, cast, buff at precise intervals. They move into areas and simply kill and loot the insanely fast spawning mobs ad infinitum.
Economy. Never in the history of MMOs has there been a more broken economy. One completely dominated by farmers and totally artificially inflated by the necessity to purchase Adena. 4 out of my 5 friends playing bought adena to equip thier toons. 4 out of 5. Not because they thought it was ok but because you literally had to if you wanted your grind to be anything like tolerable.
The art was beautiful and the landscape lusious but the game was and is now completely without soul and totally dominated by farmer driven economy.
No naming standard or enforced naming rules, you will literally see players runing around with names like X3B8VST. I'll tell ya what Im not the biggest role player in the world but any Immersion you manage to scrape together is totally destroyed by this simple item.
A bad bad game on just about every level. And thats saying something if you consider the current crop of MMOs.

That statement has 2 huge flaws.
1 - It is exagerated, if they release a Tetris it would have sell far more than a Tetris should, but no, it would not even reach the 250k sells.
2- It is based on PAST facts. WoW alterate the fanbase, their opinion and how they see Blizzard. I would be extremely surprise if Blizzard even have half the fanbase power they have prior releasing WoW, many players (too many) left WoW with a bitter taste. Short term decisions like raiding ruin a company reputation in the long run, just check at SoE! And Blizzard reputation is still dropping, it is not done yet, many players WILL leave the game in a well spreaded future (not all at once), with a bitter taste in their mouth. Blizzard reputation is never going to be again what it once was (well, at least not for a long time, 'wounds' made by WoW on their fanbase is going to take a while to heal).

1. Final Fantasy XI. this game lasted me two whole days before I quit. really didnt like the UI, big mistake to have it be shared with a console. never a console and a PC UI work together well to do the mouse and keyboard. i didnt get high enough to experience the serious grind, but i saw it coming to enough that pushed me away from it. it was my biggest mistake in a mmo. everyone said it was really good, but i thought it was the worst MMO on the market.
2. lineage 2. yeah another asian mmo on the worst list. lineage 2 didnt have the experience grind as ffxi would have. it was making enough money to afford grade C armor and weapons, which cost up close 10 million adena,. the best stuff went way up to 25 million easy. soloing is very hard in the game, you could grind for weeks and weeks on the same monsters just to get the armor you need. god forbid if you died. you have a chance in losing your money. losing exp is no big deal since you could get it back, it was the money and items you have a chance of dropping. the best way to get money fast is by grouping, which could be pretty hard to get, since there is no player list for people to look up people who are LFG. i lasted a month on this game before I decided to quit.
Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online
Everquest 1&2 hands down. I can actually say that i hate Everquest 1 with a passion just because its the game that started the whole age of carebears. And every game since then has used the carebear stepping stone that everquest originated to build their games on, leaving us UO vets and real pvper's with nothing but a hope of one day there being a REAL mmorpg where we decide the fate of the game and not the company.
You're bio says you're 42. If you can't handle a discussion at that age then you need to "get a life". Why post on a discussion forum if you can't handle someone disagreeing with you?
I don't think EQ sucks. I've been playing it for over 6 years. I didn't like WoW because I didn't see anything in it that isn't in other games already. I challenge you to tell me one thing WoW has that isn't in another game.
If you want to discuss topics on a forum then why not try posting some of your arguments. Not attacking people personally. Especially someone your age.
Where to begin.
I heard loads of praise about EQ. How awesome it was and such. When I bought it and loaded it, it was not what I expected. It was so graphically ugly I couldn't handle playing it. Now, for those of you who say "Don't judge a book by it's cover", why don't you buy a car that's beatup on the outside, but has a good engine? A program is more than just gameplay, it's every aspect, including graphics. EQ came out in a time where graphic acceleration was standard, and yet they used sprites. Sorry, I'm not about to pay for outdated graphics in games of yesterday with today's prices. EQ left such a bad taste in my mouth, I swore off MMOs for quite some time, till someone got me involved in a beta of another MMO.
I bought WoW on a whim because I was bored with CoH. I actually didn't like it at first either but it wasn't butt ugly to look at. Had I played EQ longer, perhaps I might have seen some of the gameplay you speak of, but they lost me at the loading screen. If I am to speak of my least favorite MMO, then the one that comes to my mind is the ugly one I bought and never played, and the name is EQ.
I am challenged to say what innovations WoW brought. There are none I can speak of. You now play EQ2. Where's the innovation there? Same answer from you I'd wager. Next to me I have sitting another EQ player and he also plays EQ2 and wants nothing to do with WoW. Is that denial, envy, or jealosy? I don't know. Why the former crown kings of MMOs have a problem with the new king I'll leave you to ponder. All I know is that EQ may have had lots of things to do, but after how many expansions? WoW is still new, and they are about to release their 1st expansion. He said himself there's no comparing the EQ and WoW. There are only the masses playing WoW, and all others are minorities at the moment. Majority rules I'd say.
My original post stands. I didn't like EQ. I don't understand all the hate of WoW. My age has no place in here. I didn't feel like engaging in a discussion here, only to give my two cents. I forget about the trolling that goes on in these forums. I shall not bother you all with my opinions any more because you obviously are only looking to entertain yourselves instead of seeing things from someone else's perspective.
