Can they not find something more worth their while to get involved in? Everyone knows it's not a true story.
congratualations this is no news at all im sure that many movies are on a blacklist by right wing religious groups....
for gore sex, violence, anything. In fact there are christian websites that review films and say if they are "christian" or not.
so this is just getting hype because it comes off a plagerized book...... that has become a fad in reading.
as far as im concerned stuff like this could be considered dime novels, which are more or less pop culture literature that is famous for the time but forgotten years later.
i am sure this is the case with harry potter and it will only be remembered in "i love the ____" by Vh1, davinci code it could go either way.
but a very small amount of popular literature is respected as much as time passes, the exception is James Fenmore Cooper(even though a lot of his stuff is forgotten) because he was a pop writer as i call them and influential, and william faukner,
but generally great writers arent fully recognized till well after their time, shakespear is more popular in modern times then ever, David Thorough wasnt appreciated till about the 60's, etc.

Reading that book actually made me think about Jesus in a new way for the first time in 30 years. I still think it's all bunk, but it seems to me that the Fundies are shooting themselves in their own foot with this protest. So what else is new right?
<<Nope...But the Jews did(At least in one form or another. They sure did make a stink about it).>>
Yes, they did. And once again, I ask... who cares? What did it accompliush? The movie went on to do quite well. Boycotts, in general, are silly affairs. That's all I am saying. Originally posted by Aldaron The Jews believe that there will be a Messiah of divine origin that will come to redeem mankind of his Sins, the Christians believe he has already come, the muslims believe there is no redeemer and doesn't recognize original sin. So that would be why Christians find more brotherhood with Jews than Muslims. There is quite a disparity between Judeo-Christian belief, and Muslims; the difference between Jews and Christians is that one group believes the redeemer has come, the other doesn't; but besides that fact, they are very similar. Hope that explains the question.
Excuse me but you're super mistaken here.
It is the Jews who don't believe in a Messiah, Islam DOES teach about a coming Messiah, and he specifically says it's Jesus ( peace be upon him ), so those of the christians who believe that the muslims don't believe in Jesus, they need to ask real muslims about this.
About original sin: christians believe that, jews i don't know, muslims don't believe there's original because it's realy harsh to say such a thing, in christianity if a new born child dies, he does to hell, because he never repented in his life, well in islam if a new born child dies then they immediatly go to paradise without being judged, and ask God to forgive their parents.
About the Saviour: Christians believe that Jesus is the saviour, jews don't believe that, muslims believe that the true saviour is the Only God worthy or worship which is Allah, Allah by itself is a unique name, it gives the true meaning to the being worthy of worship, a God.
Allah is not genderized, he is neither male nor female, although we say HE, in english that's a male, but in arabic when you say Howa ( which translates to He ) it not necessarly a male but is said out of respect to his majesty, and also in the Qur'an, the Islam Bible ( Bible means Book, in the old greek language: Biblios ), Allah mentions clearly that he is the only Saviour, and that Jesus will appear at the end of times, and he will fight against the anti christ and defeat him.
so basically in islam, there's nothing called Original Sin, and there's only one saviour, one god, one true way of life, and it is the way of life that Mosus, Jesus, Mohammad, Ibraham, Solomon and all the other messengers and prophets has been sent with to the people of earth, this way of life called Islam.
christianity and Judaism were given these names refering to a place or a person, christianity was named after jesus the christ, and muslims believe that he is Jesus Christ, and the Messiah.
Judaism was given after the name Judeo, or Hebrew or something, i don't know the details of this though.
Islam however stands to it's true meaning, Islam ( an Arabic word ) has many many meanings that come from the root word, S L M, or Selm, which means peace, derived into many many different words and meanings, some of them are, Surrender, sencerity, obeyment, stairs ( refering to ascendance ), peace, submission, Islam is the true and complete meaning of all of these words.
and all of these things are done for the sake of the true almighty god, Allah.
Islam never denies christianity nor Judaism, and he believes in both the old testiment, and the new one, BUT Islam teaches that we should believe in the ORIGINAL books, not the new manipulated ones, and the originals don't exist anymore, cus they were lost.
the Book of Islam, the Qur'an however has been untouched and un-manipulated by man for more than 1400 years, it stands original as the prophet mohammad recited it, and contains no contradictions between it's verses, and this is the biggest challenge where alot of christian and jewish preachers and priests have entered islam, because the Qur'an is in it's original form AND in the original language, and everyone knows that, and people have tried to manipulate it but they failed.
where the new testiment and the old one are NOT the original books, and they are also not in the original language, merely a translation, which might contain many errors.
i hope this clarifies the likeliness of these 3 religions, and where they differ, I am for one is a muslim, and i'm very proud of that, and i also believe in jesus and mosus, and that what they have delivered to the people was true islam, and that there's no God but Allah, and nothing else.
Do your research and ask a Jew instead of basing your belief on your false religious teachings.
in christianity if a new born child dies, he does to hell, because he never repented in his life, well in islam if a new born child dies then they immediatly go to paradise without being judged, and ask God to forgive their parents.
Once again, do your research instead of basing your beliefs on false teachings. Christianity teaches that a child, up to a certain age, is not held accountable because (s)/he is innocent because (s)/he does not know the difference between right and wrong. So, if a child dies, then they immediately go to heaven, no blowing oneself up is required.
And, I suppose in Paradise this baby gets their virgins as well?
Allah mentions clearly that he is the only Saviour, and that Jesus will appear at the end of times, and he will fight against the anti christ and defeat him.
As does the bible. The Old and New testament were written before Islam was a thought of plagarism to the christian bible. Islam is that, an entire plagarised religion as christianity is as well.
so basically in islam, there's nothing called Original Sin, and there's only one saviour, one god, one true way of life, and it is the way of life that Mosus, Jesus, Mohammad, Ibraham, Solomon and all the other messengers and prophets has been sent with to the people of earth, this way of life called Islam.
Moses was a Jew, he wasn't a Muslim. Islam did not exist during Moses time. The mentally ill and mentally challenged person name Muhammoud did not yet exist.
Judaism was given after the name Judeo, or Hebrew or something, i don't know the details of this though.
Well, why don't you research it instead of basing your beliefs on something your ignorant clerics teach you. You are wrong on this account yet again.
it stands original as the prophet mohammad recited it, and contains no contradictions between it's verses, and this is the biggest challenge where alot of christian and jewish preachers and priests have entered islam, because the Qur'an is in it's original form AND in the original language, and everyone knows that, and people have tried to manipulate it but they failed.
First, yes, there are several contradictions in the Quran as there are in the Christian Bible. Have you actually read the book or are you just basing this opinion on the teaching of your mentally challenged clerics? I will give you an example.
[Shakir 8:12] I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.
[Shakir 109:1-6] Say: O unbelievers! I do not serve that which you serve, Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve: Nor am I going to serve that which you serve, Nor are you going to serve Him Whom I serve: You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion.
Two obviously contradicting statements. Unbelievers may have their own religion and serve their own gods, but yet in an earlier verse, unbeleivers must have their heads and fingers chopped off. Yeah, real peaceful religion Islam is.
Islam counts on the ignorance of its followers. Most of its followers in the middle east are illiterate so they can't read for themselves. Christianity followed this rule of ignorance(middle ages) as well. By your comments, I am assuming you have not read the Quran in its entirety. I have, as I have read the Christian Bible. Both are contradicting, and both are very false.
I'm an aethist and I sure the hell am glad I am not Muslim.

Clot: as the scientists discovered this lately, the baby when he is first coming into existance will be the shape of a clot, hanging on the wall of the womb, he is a small blood dot, that feeds on the blood of the womb, this is where it's description of the leech comes from, it is also hanging, where the arabic word, Alaq describes it, now to tell me that this ultimate truth which the scientists came up with lately came to a man that doesn't know how to read and write, where did he being it from? it has to be from allah, as he stated, the lord of creation. Two obviously contradicting statements. Unbelievers may have their own religion and serve their own gods, but yet in an earlier verse, unbeleivers must have their heads and fingers chopped off. Yeah, real peaceful religion Islam is. yes, the Qur'an you're reading from is not the original, as you can see it's a translation, second thing in the original Qur'an there is NO chapter called Shakir, so sorry man, you're bringing something that doesn't exist in Islam, thus, Islam is innocent from what you claim, on top of that you said [Shakir 109:1-6] and[Shakir 8:12], which one is Shakir, chapter 109 or 8 ? this is a big indicator that you brought 2 different things from 2 different Qur'ans, and non of them are the original.
I wanted to add that Chapter 109 in the Qur'an is called Al-Kaferoon, litiral translation, The Coverers, which means those who cover the truth.
Chapter 8 in the Qur'an is called Al-Anfal, Norken however only took one part of the verse, ignoring the rest which gives false meaning to it, and i think the Qur'an he brought it from actually missed the rest, it comes like this. [12] (Remember) when your Lord revealed to the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes."
basically, it is the angels who recieved the order from allah to strike the necks of the koffar ( disbelievers ) , this verse came describing the battle which happened between the muslims and the polythists, or statue worshippers, which Allah has sent down angels to aid the prophet in his struggle against the disbelievers, and then allah ordered the angels to strengthen the muslims, and strike fear into the hearts of the non-muslims. this came as a miracle from the prophet mohammad, this is part of the story.
[9] (Remember) when you sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): "I will help you with a thousand of the angels each behind the other (following one another) in succession."[10] Allâh made it only as glad tidings, and that your hearts be at rest therewith. And there is no victory except from Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.[11] (Remember) when He covered you with a slumber as a security from Him, and He caused water (rain) to descend on you from the sky, to clean you thereby and to remove from you the Rijz (whispering, evil-suggestions) of Shaitân (Satan), and to strengthen your hearts, and make your feet firm thereby.[12] (Remember) when your Lord revealed to the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes." [13] This is because they defied and disobeyed Allâh and His Messenger. And whoever defies and disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, then verily, Allâh is Severe in punishment.[14] This is (the torment), so taste it; and surely for the disbelievers is the torment of the Fire. [15] O you who believe! When you meet those who disbelieve, in a battle-field, never turn your backs to them.[16] And whoever turns his back to them on such a day - unless it be a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own), - he indeed has drawn upon himself wrath from Allâh. And his abode is Hell, and worst indeed is that destination![17] You killed them not, but Allâh killed them. And you (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) threw not when you did throw, but Allâh threw, that He might test the believers by a fair trial from Him. Verily, Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
so basically, Allah sent angels to aid the muslims, so angels existed and they were sent to aid the muslims agains the attackers, in that battle the muslims were defending themselves from the attacks of the disbelievers, they therefore ( the muslims ) , were not the attackers, so to put it in other words, these verses described a time of war, in chapter 8.
however in chapter 109, it describes the times of peace, where the prophet was being pressured and told by the non-believers, that if the prophet mohammad believed in what they worship, they will believe and worship what he worship, so this chapter came as a reply from allah to these non-believers.
[1] Say (O Muhammad (peace be upon him) to these Mushrikûn and Kâfirûn): "O Al-Kâfirûn (disbelievers in Allâh, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar.)! [2] "I worship not that which you worship, [3] "Nor will you worship that which I worship.[4] "And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping. [5] "Nor will you worship that which I worship [6] "To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islâmic Monotheism)."
so where's the contradiction in here? this one is for the time of peace, and that one in the times of war. explain to me where do they contradict each others ?
of course you won't be reading any of this, and then come over here and spout nonesence and falsehood, without even researching anything yourself.
i would like to add that the Qur'an cannot be fully understood from a mere translation, to better understand the Quran, you must be an advanced expert in the arabic language, and memorise the Qur'an fully, and also memorise alot of the prophet's sayings and teachings, so if someone comes up explaining this and that within the Quran, you must first know that he must not be a liar, in islam lying gets you into hell, therefore true muslims are not liers, second thing if it's from Quran, then you must verify that, third, is that you must research the true meaning of the said verses, the Quran isn't simply words that means this and that, no, it came to people with so much different mentality and understand than us today, and it suited them better than us today, so therefore we must study the true meaning, the original language, and we must not take things literally.

Plenty of groups want to control everyone else... its nothing new. From the whacked out militant christians to the whacked out militant environmentalists, etc. Boycotting a movie will change nothing... those who wish to see it will still see it. Those who don't, won't. Plenty of christians went to see The Passion of the Christ, and the atheists stayed home. No biggie. It may just work the opposite way here. The movie will be big in spite of any 'boycott'.
Yea, but the atheists didn't boycott Passion of the Christ. Why they feel the need to push their belief is a pertinent concern.
Thank you. Excellent point. The atheists are too busy doing things that matter. Like studying science and trying to find cures for diseases. Instead of praying about them.

Both the Qu'ran and the Bible are open to interpretation, for example, many CATHOLIC theologians now believe that the Bible doesn't condemn homosexuality.
I find that most Athiests are ignorant and very close-minded, as shown by your little characature at the end.
Originally posted by honzolo <<Yea, but the atheists didn't boycott Passion of the Christ. I think that's just a natural result of any organized group. Their boycott does not affect you. Let's not pretend lefties don't boycott things, shall we? That there is an 'announced' boycott should only drive up ticket sales to the movie, anyways. Take solace in that.
Real christans (even half christans) wouldn't things like boycotting or butting in any people's business.
Don't know about that. Christ was pretty adamant about butting in on the merchants' business in the temple. But he had a good reason. Don't know if these people do.
They throw this judeo-christian society crap around like they're locked arm in arm in their beliefs.
Pretty much are. I think at some point in the New Testament (note the word think because I'm not completely sure on it) Jews were converting to Christianity. Aside from all the rituals and tradition that Jews should uphold, it's hard to distinguish a Jew from a Christian. There can be Christian Jews - believe it or not: ones that uphold the laws/traditions and that believe in Christ as their Messiah. The only difference between a Jewish-Christian and a 'Jew' in contemporary terms is their beliefs on who the Messiah is. A Jewish-Christian would believe in Jesus (Yeshua) as the Messiah (Meshiach) and the 'Jew' would believe in someone else, perhaps, as the prophesied Messiah or maybe someone that has not yet come. I don't think I would or even could be classified as a Jew, so I'm simply a 'Christian'. Not sure what Muslims believe. With everything that's been happening, I haven't devoted a great deal of time to studying other religions.

Well. Calling it truth is kinda way off. It's a theory. A theory that Dan Brown has spun a fictional book around. The theory might have some true points. But Dan Brown's book takes it into Star Wars levels in terms of fiction It's a nice book, exiting and 3 days worth of fun. But a scientific approved theory, haha nope. Atleast for me it's pretty clear that Jesus existed at some stage. Or more correct. A person existed. A person that is now called Jesus in the Bible. And it's kinda logic that he wasn't like the Bible says it in some aspects. He didn't make water into wine, he didn't walk on water. I don't believe in a grand big lie by the church. Ofcourse they glorified him, and they did what they could to keep him at that status. But that it was like The DaVinci Code says it wen't I don't think is correct.
Yes, they did. And once again, I ask... who cares? What did it accompliush? The movie went on to do quite well. Boycotts, in general, are silly affairs. That's all I am saying. I agree on most parts; especially the fact that you did state the movie went on to do quite well; in fact, so well, it's in the top 10 domestic gross in movie history.
There's no such thing as bad publicity.
OneMuslim: I don't really want to rebut your whole post, so let me just say this: Research the Jewish religion, because you're sorely ignorant in that area. Christianity is a development of the Jewish religion; Christianity believes that the Messiah has come in the form of Jesus the Christ, he redeemed us of our sins, etc. etc.
This belief, came to fruition through the fulfilled prophecies of the old testament(Judaic scriptures) of a savior that would redeem us from our fall from God(YHVH)(original sin), and open the gateway for entering into the presence of God(YHVH) at the end of the age. The prophecies foretold things such as the virgin birth, all to the things of the great suffering he would endure when being crucified.
Now I think I may be understanding why you're saying that Judaism does not recognize a savior; mainly for the fact that it would completely contradict your way of thought, your belief, when parts of Islam actually rely on Judaism and Christianity for it's foundation.
You can believe in Islam, and you won't have me telling you why or how I think it's wrong, because you've probably heard it all before; but please, don't come here and actually lie by saying that the Jews do not believe that a Messiah will come.

Great, so what's next? Are they going to eventually sue people for pushing their pagan beliefs on others? They say this book is manipulative and lies so that's why their mad. Seems to me the church has been pulling the same stunt with their book for centuries.

I am not paranoid. Obviously there are groups who want to control others.. some of them are 'christian', some of them are rabid leftist groups. I believe that common sense wins out. Our political scene is like a pendulum... it will swing one direction for a while, then it will swing back in response to where it has moved. I think things will work out in the long run. So I am not going to get myself all worked up over a movie boycott. But, then, I don't hate christians like a lot of the people on these boards evidently do. How long will it be before you start calling for them to be banned and imprisoned? I have to wonder.

Saying I hate christians is unfair. And you say you're not paranoid? Wouldn't it take a degree of paranoia to come up with the accusation you just made about me?
For the record I don't hate christians.
I just wish they'd leave me alone instead of trying to push their agenda on me. I have my own set of values. And a large amount of those don't jive up with the Bible. If christians want to live their lives by those standards, fine. But what I don't like is them saying I should live that way too and trying to pass legislation to force me to.
I love to drink. I love to dance. I support gay rights. I think couples should live together before getting married. I think premarital sex is fine if a couple is careful and in love. I've got no problem with people using birth control. And I watch pornography. I don't have any intentions of changing any of that because of the Bible or some preacher telling me I'm going to hell. I am quite okay with myself.
Oh, and go back and read my update. It's not just a movie boycott anymore. They're trying to get the courts involved. That's why I wrote what I did.
I find that most Athiests are ignorant and very close-minded, as shown by your little characature at the end.
I'm an Atheist, and i am very open minded. most athiests i know are open minded. I dont know where you got your opinion from, or how many athiests you know, but i think that is kind of stupid. Actually, i find that anyone that is affiliated with a religion seem to be less open minded that us athiests. This is because they let religous biases get in the way of facts. And by the way, im pretty sure that he was trying(or being) funny, and that has nothing to do with being close minded.
on another note, i think that the cardinal should have absolutely no right to bring Dan Brown to court over a book he wrote. The Bible and the Quran are both books too, and with just as much deception, just as many lies, and then some. People dont realize that the people that wrote the quran and the bible were only HUMAN, can what do humans do? They lie. also, i don't understand why OneMuslim is saying that the Quran is the only book that is in its original state, it was written roughly 1400 years ago so things were changed in that time, people(expecially political and religious leaders) had it changed to fit their views.
I find it interesting that in the bible there is no gospel of jesus, there are only tellings of what he said or did from other peoples perspectives. Oh, what a fun word, "Perspectives". Perspective implies that people might be wrong. That they made things up, expecially since the bible was written about 50 years (well, atleast the New testament) after the death of Jesus. Imagine how off the old testament must be, and how off the Quran must be, being that it is a rip off of the bible.
Oh, and when Norked says [Shakir 8:12] and [Shakir 109:1-6] hey is using the format ["Chapter(which is usually called by name)" "then paragraph number": "then sentence number"] atleast that is the format that is used when stating lines from the Bible.
IMO people like Jesus and Muhammud were just power hungry, not prophets or messiahs or anything of that sort, just frauds.
Edit: i also think it is kinda odd, that only now that the movie is coming out, dan brown is being brought to court, when his book has been out for 3 years.
Haha, just found this and thought it was kinda funny: "Although many claim Brown's books such as "Da Vinci Code" are anti-Christian, Brown himself is a self-proclaimed Christian who says the controversy is good to inspire "discussion and debate" that will ultimately lead to a more solidly defended faith."
That is from wikipedia.com, so if you dont believe me, then just search dan brown( author of da vinci code, for all of you who don't know) up.

I can accept that, but you do seem inordinately obsessed with christians and your dislike for them. Explain, please. I have never said nor implied that I hate christians. I don't like what they do to people. Putting folks on a guilt trip to get them to believe doesn't seem like much of a positive message to me. I wish they would get over their neurosis. Sorry if that sounds offensive, but that's the way I see it. As a mental disorder.
Why would anyone follow a religion that preaches guilt into submission? I actually know the answer to that. It's because it's the religion you were born into. I've felt that pressure to. Until I took a really good religious studies class and learned that other religions give you the freedom of mind to express yourself as a unique individual. Then I felt that weight of the world off my shoulders.
<< just wish they'd leave me alone instead of trying to push their agenda on me. I have my own set of values. And a large amount of those don't jive up with the Bible. It has been my experience in life that christians do not have a live and let live policy. I can go all the way back to high school and being shunned because I didn't want to join the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I was about pushed off my team. Or when my sister wanted to marry my brother-in-law who is a catholic. Let's just say, he's not catholic anymore.
And christians now have the nerve to talk about how they're under attack? I don't hate christians. I just wish they'd accept the fact that they don't have all the answers that I need in life. And a lot of the stuff they tell me is the answer seems like a square peg in a round hole to me. They are trying to shove old timey beliefs onto modern problems. And it just ain't working anymore.
We'd do all of ourselves a favor to revisit our religious beliefs and modernize them. Times have changed. And they aren't showing any signs of slowing down. And the christians answer to that is that God is going to destroy the world???? I have a teensie little problem with that.

congratualations this is no news at all im sure that many movies are on a blacklist by right wing religious groups....
for gore sex, violence, anything.

<<Nope...But the Jews did(At least in one form or another. They sure did make a stink about it).>>
Yes, they did. And once again, I ask... who cares? What did it accompliush? The movie went on to do quite well. Boycotts, in general, are silly affairs. That's all I am saying. That Christian groups decide to boycott this movie will not affect it in the least... in fact it may sell more tickets. They have the right to boycott anything they wish, just like anyone does. I wouldn't waste your time or energy getting upset by it... its not worth it.
Like many abortion doctors and nurses, do.

Why should people pay money to see the truth to one of the world's greatest mystery's. I mean, something this important should be spread thoughout the world and, told to everyone freely.

<<Saying I hate christians is unfair. And you say you're not paranoid? Wouldn't it take a degree of paranoia to come up with the accusation you just made about me?
For the record I don't hate christians.
>>
I can accept that, but you do seem inordinately obsessed with christians and your dislike for them.
<< just wish they'd leave me alone instead of trying to push their agenda on me. I have my own set of values. And a large amount of those don't jive up with the Bible. If christians want to live their lives by those standards, fine. But what I don't like is them saying I should live that way too and trying to pass legislation to force me to.
>>
I would say that the vast majority of christians have a live and let live view of things. They aren't trying to control other people. In any group there is a small fraction that take things to the extreme. I think its unfait to paint them all with such a broad brush.
<< love to drink. >>
Last time I checked you were allowed to do all of those things in this country.
<<Oh, and go back and read my update. It's not just a movie boycott anymore. They're trying to get the courts involved. That's why I wrote what I did.
>>
One man says they should pursue legal action. you can find a guy anywhere to say anything. Doesn't mean he speaks for everyone. Besides, you can sue anyone for anything in a court of law... just doesn't mean you'll win. If this guy wants to, he has the FREEDOM to pursue legal action, as he considers the premise of the movie slanderous. And we have the right to consider him an idiot.
