Either Sigil majorly misunderstood the deep hatred for SOE or they are categorically writing off the would be fans in favor of the "advantages" they get by joining the SOE banner ---- in whatever capacity.
Posted something similar in another thread, but it bears repeating here.
SOE is not finished adding games to it's Station-Pass Access stable. They are looking to increase the "value" of the Station-Pass and want to have a "fleet" of MMO's available for their subscribers to choose from.
Don't be surprised if an additional 2 or 3 games are added to the list. Perhaps even one that the "SOE-haters" are either currently playing or looking to play. Just saying - pick your game wisely - SOE isn't done yet.
P.S. I'm a former SWG player myself, but I'm not so naive to believe that SOE is the ONLY MMO company who behaves badly at times. Unfortunately it's the nature of MMO's currently. Perhaps we'll see some changes in the future, but I predict we'll see more consolidations instead. Meaning that the bigger companies (SOE, MS, etc.) will just buy up the smaller companies.
The other thing to remember, SOE is gonna implement a new marketing scheme with players being able to purchase high end items for $$$. Just think about competing against people decked out in SOE items they buy for $$$. I bet they can't wait to implement this money making strategy into Vanguard.
A publisher puts out all the money !!! You don't think they will try to milk as much $$ out of the game as possible? Of course SOE will have some involvement. Sig makes the game, but then SOE will say, hey..... make some expansions to sell, sell virtual ingame items for $$$ etc, etc. If they are behind the marketing then they are gonna influence fee's and everything under the sun.
I for one am very disappointed. One game I consider the best of all time was Myth the Fallen Lords. First controlled by bungie and then Microsoft came in and bought them out and ruined the whole game !! SOE will most likely do the same thing here. Ultima Online ..... EA remember that. Its getting worse of us.
I don't understand why there always has to be some huge ass publisher behind everyone of these games. Its becoming a Monopoly of sorts. I wish someone would just give the finger to the big companies and have the balls to go at it alone.

go read the FAQ there will not be station exchange servers in vanguard (witch is what you are talking about) there are so many people like you that are just assuming alot of things or speculating this or that.
if you would just read what the Dev's have to say about the soe fiasco it would make things alot more clear for you. i understand if you don't want to give soe your money, but at least read what the Dev's have to say before you go assuming or speculating things, not trying to tell you what to do but it may help.
With SoE involved Vanguard will be released in Juli, the Beta Phase starts on the Shell and you can join the Beta for 70$ plus 14$ each month till you can stand it anymore.
Each Patch who is comming out will be also a Payingbeta for all players. SoE had shows since they had taken EverQuest from Verant that they don't care to make a stable good game. All they good for is rush and patch things 20 times a day just to dissapoint there customers.
Mr. Angerr I feel that you are missing one very important fact here. You keep on telling everybody to read the FAQ, read the forums, read what they have to say, etc.
Here's the one fact you are failing to realize. It doesn't matter what they say when you are dealing with Sony Online Entertainment. SoE has done SO MANY VERY VERY VERY IMMORAL things in the past that people do not want to associate with SoE on ANY basis no matter what it may be.
Sigil could put out a statement saying that SoE will only donate $1 to the project, and will never be part of the project ever again, and you would STILL get people who would never deal with Sigil again.
How do I put this in a way you can understand.... oh here. I got it.
Imagine that you have the opportunity to go to a movie theatre ran by John Doe's Movie Company. Then just before you go to see the movie, you find out that a deranged psycho killer out on bail works there. Now, here's the kicker. Your mom was killed by a psycho killer when you was younger. Now with that stigma, do you go to that theatre OR go to another one? Now the management assures you that the psycho killer will never have any access to you what so ever. He only cleans the bathrooms, so you're perfectly safe ... right?

cute post....since you called me out specifically i am assuming you have read some of my posts? i mean you claim that i fail to realize that people don't want to give soe their money because they have had bad experiences in the past with soe, correct?
i have probably posted over 5 0 times that i realize that, and don't blame them one bit. my issue is with people making stuff up or speculating what might happen. or even worse reading countless posts by people assuming something or complaining about something that has already been addressed if they would just read the FAQ.
if you have read any of my posts (and there is alot of them lol) you would know where i stand, and you would know that i understand that people feel obligated not to give soe any of their money, i understand completely.

Actually no, I have not read all of your posts because there are a ton of them, so I probably missed that.
Either way, there are enough fanbois out there who will say Vanguard is the greatest even while watching the devil destory it right now. They just want beta invites, and they don't give a crap about SoE's past. Those of us who are speaking out against SoE have NOTHING to gain from doing so. NOTHING. We get no beta invites, we get nothing. Oh well we do get one thing. I got told off by a Sigil VP for expressing my point of view on their forums, so I guess I did get something out of the three years I spent following the game's progress.
i hear you man i wasn't stoked to hear the news either, i was pretty damn heated at first....untill i started reading why they did it . i know alot of people would bust my balls for believing what they are saying, but they (sigil) have never given me any reason not to trust them.....everyone deserves one chance in my book so i Will give sigil, not soe the benefit of the doubt.
worst case scenario? the game flops or is a pos then i just quit, no big deal to me really....but that is just me ofcource.
Originally posted by angerr heltern I'm just going to say this once regarding your sig.........soe didn't buy anything, now proceed with the trolling.
I agree. SOE is just publishing the game. They have 0 control over the game, expansions, creative content, or customer sercvice (one of the worst parts of SOE). Im not a fan of SOE at all, and agree the SWG stuff was very dirty, but after the initial shock of it all I still will give the game a shot. I look at the game not the publisher, but who is in control of the game. Lets all calm down and see what happens. SOE may move to doing nothing but publishing games and not running them if Vanguard and Gods and Heros does well for them. Lets just wait and see.
So they say now...but as I said earlier...SOE's name is now on this and as such they will want to have some say in what goes on. It would be bad business on SOEs part not to insist on some say in what goes on. Suppose the game totally flopped, got the worst reviews in history, and generated the most angst in history...that would make SOE look bad even if they had no control over the game. That is just not going to happen.
Ever since first discovering about Vanguard a very long time ago, I have been excited and kept the flame alive wherever possible. With the news of SOE's involvement, the flame has been extinguished. My dream for Vanguard is dead. Sigil, this is going to hurt you more than you realize.
If you believe that $OE will be content to sit back and have no input into the game then you are the one looking retarded. $OE have been brought in to provide the finance needed to buy the game back from Microsoft, and whoever holds the purse strings has a lot of control.
lol are you like refusing to read any of the actual statements regarding the soe fiasco? have you not read the 1000's of posts saying that soe didn't invest a dime?
kind of ironic you are insulting other people calling them "retarded" when obviously you don't even know what happened. yeah, if soe did invest money into vanguard i would agree with you....but they didn't, go read about it.
I just followed the link at the bottom of your posts and this is one of the first things I read:
Question: Why does Sigil need a co-publisher if they could afford to buy back the publishing rights from Microsoft?
Answer:
1. Because it would take far too much money to become a full blown publisher/distributor.
Is it just me or does that answer not sound like Sigil needed $OEs backing as they could not afford to be the full publisher/distributer themselves? Does this not suggest that $OE are investing money into the relationship? Certainly more than a "dime"
Before you go around accusing people of not reading the "actual statements", why not read them yourself, you'll find a link at the bottom of your own posts.

It was over 7 before the announcement, it was 6.9 yesterday, 6.6 today May 10th.
I fully admit I quit SWG before the Combat Upgrade occured. So I did not experience the true feeling of betrayal that most have but, I have to agree with Sigil. I think this is a good move for them.....as long as the SOE-Sigil relationship follows what has been posted in the Vanguard forums to the letter. No content input. Let Sigil do what they do best...make an innovative MMORPG.
SOE has been branded the red-headed stepchild of the gaming world, especially with MMORPGs, with good reason. They started well with EQ but then saw the massive income streams that MMORPGs can provide and they, in my eyes, became exclusively "profit-oriented".
Also, with SWG, they not only made a poor game, they defaced a childhood memory for the vast majority of the players. There was NO WAY that they could able to make SWG work. I say this because, either you make the game so it follows the previously made source content (movies, books, etc.) which limits your creative input. Or, you take the basics from the source content and build upon it. This only pissed off the fanboys as they could not play in "their" Star Wars universe.
SOE forgot that MMORPGs are as much of an art as a science and, at the other end of their income stream, is a player/customer who needs to be satisfied. Whether that be with challenging mechanics or new and interesting content, MMORPG customers need to be addressed and respected. Like any business, you piss off your customers/subscribers you will lose them. Once the word of mouth/internet flames spill over to other game forums ... well .... you are a sinking ship.
I for one support Sigil's move to take further control of their product. I just wish they could have done it with someone else besides SOE. Other suggestions have been made but did they fit the bill for Sigil's Vision? Maybe they did not have the resources that uber SOE did? Who knows.
Plus, the move is also very good for SOE. If they can somehow ride on the coattails of a successful Sigil product, they may remove some of the tarnish from their name. In my mind, not enough to lure back the majority of the players that they have alienated, but some. Eventually, they may even claim an ambiguous position in the MMORPG community.
The other thing to remember, SOE is gonna implement a new marketing scheme with players being able to purchase high end items for $$$. Just think about competing against people decked out in SOE items they buy for $$$. I bet they can't wait to implement this money making strategy into Vanguard.

I totally agree with you, i am speculating of course, but I'm just worried things can change. Hell look at what they did to SWG and the drastic changes they made. Things might be okay at first but once they hook everyone they may implement changes down the line. I don't trust SOE anymore , i'm just stating a warning of types. But I do agree with you, I hate to make speculations that may be way off. I'm not trying to doom the game with my comments just giving a heads up sort of.
One more thing, as a publisher, money is invested . I don't know why people think that SOE wont have any involvement. They are gonna want to make as much profit as possible and if they think Sig is not doing all it can, they will suggest making changes or implement a new marketing scheme. All I can say is, be careful about investing a ton of time into this game, might be ok to try it out and see how things go, but be wary that SOE may meddle with the state of the game.
But remember SOE was/is the DEVELOPER for SWG. That's not the case with Vanguard. They are CO-publisher.
Sigil is the DEVELOPER for Vanguard. Guess it's just me, but that seems to be a bit of a difference. Oh well, I guess time will tell. I still plan on buying it and I'll make my judgement from first-hand gameplay. Seems to work the best for me.
Originally posted by Rekindle IMHO - SOE sucks the biggest suckiest suck of all the sucks--- Vanguard turns into the biggest disappointment of all time by associating with them (takes the torch from SWG - NGE)- Despite what the fancy FAQs say this is a bad move for Sigil. For over 2 years Sigil has been reading about how bad we hate SOE and they make this move...imagine. For me Brad McQuaid's vision of EQ defined everything good about it, SOE's vision defined everything that was bad. The fact Sigil has re-affiliated itself with these SOB's is just so bad. Even if they make hte best game in the world any hope of Sigil filling in **my** MMORPG gaming void is all but lost now. Discuss..........
Not just that but now they are locking every complaint they get on their forums...hmm who else did huge forum censorship when something unpopular came up...SWsomething? And another thing I had subscribed to the magazine with a free beta code for vanguard but now they are saying "fooled you that beta code really isnt good until the last phase of beta suckers" SOE is going to ruin this game same as everything else, how long until they rename it from V:SoH to V:NGE?
Lets get a few facts straight that many seem to be overlooking.
1. Unless you are in the MMO business you are talking out of your ass when you say SOE is gonna have influence on the development of Vanguard. At very best, this is speculation and flame bait.
2. For all those that say they HATE Vanguard since it has now teamed up with SOE, I have 4 words for you. "See you in beta".
There is so many hypocrital statements and unfounded speculation here it makes me feel like I am in a "blue" state.
That is all.

they are locking threads because there are hundreds of threads all saying the same damn thing, kind of like this forum but 1000 times worse.
the main thread where people are discussing it has like 2k posts and they are not being censored at all.
Rekindle, if your going to come over here and say they are censoring you at least tell the truth, and let people know the reason behind them locking yours and others threads. You know they are locking threads because they have people making tons of threads about the same thing over and over, when there is a thread where people are taliking about this already and they are not censoring anything unless you make a personal attack on people.
Cant stand SOE myself, that being said.I can care less who sigil goes with for support. its still the game we have een waiting for, I will be one of the many that will still be playing it.

i hear you man, the way i see it is sigil has done nothing to make me distrust them yet......and everyone deserves at least once chance in my opinion.
i never get to emotionally involved into a video game, so if it turns out to be a pos or if it goes down hill in a couple years i will just quit, end of story.

But, that's another story.
go read the FAQ there will not be station exchange servers in vanguard (witch is what you are talking about) there are so many people like you that are just assuming alot of things or speculating this or that.
if you would just read what the Dev's have to say about the soe fiasco it would make things alot more clear for you. i understand if you don't want to give soe your money, but at least read what the Dev's have to say before you go assuming or speculating things, not trying to tell you what to do but it may help.
And another thing I had subscribed to the magazine with a free beta code for vanguard but now they are saying "fooled you that beta code really isnt good until the last phase of beta suckers"
SOE is going to ruin this game same as everything else, how long until they rename it from V:SoH to V:NGE?
Lets get a few facts straight that many seem to be overlooking.
1. Unless you are in the MMO business you are talking out of your ass when you say SOE is gonna have influence on the development of Vanguard. At very best, this is speculation and flame bait.
2. For all those that say they HATE Vanguard since it has now teamed up with SOE, I have 4 words for you. "See you in beta".
There is so many hypocrital statements and unfounded speculation here it makes me feel like I am in a "blue" state.
That is all.
they are locking threads because there are hundreds of threads all saying the same damn thing, kind of like this forum but 1000 times worse.
the main thread where people are discussing it has like 2k posts and they are not being censored at all.
read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
Rekindle, if your going to come over here and say they are censoring you at least tell the truth, and let people know the reason behind them locking yours and others threads. You know they are locking threads because they have people making tons of threads about the same thing over and over, when there is a thread where people are taliking about this already and they are not censoring anything unless you make a personal attack on people.
i hear you man, the way i see it is sigil has done nothing to make me distrust them yet......and everyone deserves at least once chance in my opinion.
i never get to emotionally involved into a video game, so if it turns out to be a pos or if it goes down hill in a couple years i will just quit, end of story.
