How many alt accounts does it take to inflate EVE's rank?

Just another WoW kiddie screraming and crying and throwing a tamtrum because his precious game is not ranked the best by this site's playerbase.

Account created 29/04/06...so either an alt-flame account (such hypocrasy) or just another troll.

Thanks for annoying me enough to post, thats quite an achievement ;)

Pointed this out to MMORPG months ago.  Don't think folks are making extra accounts.  But, EVE players are a very organized bunch.  So, my guess is that they have a very concerted effort going to come here and post their liking.  Nothing wrong with that at all.

In addition, EVE is actually a very fine game for what it is.  A major PvP, open ended game.  I don't play it anymore, because it is just to dang slow for my tastes.  But that does not mean it is not a good game; it is a good game.

Is it better than WoW?  Hard to say.  How can you compare, on one list, games that are so drastically different as EVE, WoW, and GW?  It is like the only thing they have in common is that they are played OnLine.

The real problem is the MMORPG.COM ranking system.  They have GW and DDO listed and they are no more MMORPGs than Diablo2.  EVE is a MMORPG, but is a 100,000 subscriber game greater than a 6,000,000+ subcriber game?  I do not think so.

    Anyway, just my 2c.

You're confusing that 6 million copies purchased with people that actually play it.  Eve has close to, if not more than, 150,000 ACTIVE SUBSCRIPTIONS.  That means people that are actually playing the game and don't just have Eve sitting on their computer taking up disk space.  Add up the WoW server populations.  You'll get a number nowhere near 6 million... oh... and that number is declining...

War of the Worlds made a ton of money... does that make it a good movie?... NO.  It means people went to see it.  Whether or not it was a good movie is decided individually... not by the amount of money it makes opening weekend.  Crash did terrible its opening weekend... its a GREAT movie!  Much better than War of the Worlds!

The amount of subscribers a MMO claims has little do to with how GOOD it technically is, more with advertising. Take a game like Beyond Good & Evil, that game had almost no advertising and sold poorly, despite that it is considered one of the best games to come out in the last few years, and rightly so.

EVE has had virtually no print advertising and very little banner advertising since release, yet they still continue to gain subs and their turnover rate is now more than 1 year on average, compare that to 2 months on most other MMO's. That tells me that most people that actually take the time to give the game a chance think it is a better game.

I havent owned a nice computer ever! untill about a year ago, and i really liked the idea of bieng able to play in huge groups with other players around the world, as i love RPGs.
I tried EQ 2 first and was like WHoa check out the pretty graphics and how cool i just helped this guy find this thing he needid for this other guy who wanted it for his wifes uncle, this game is so complex omg.
Ok so that lasted about 2 months, after that i was like hmmmm.... what am i missing here. So i joined up with this guild and it was like super neat and new for about a weak, but the sad thing about it was i didnt really feel i had a role or any place within the guild, they just kept suggesting hey get to lvl so and so im like yeah whatever, im working on it. Needless to say EQ2 and i broke up and we had this on and off relationship for a while that is untill WOW came out. I was like WOW!! this is super great and i can take boats all over and the world is all intact without loading except dungeons and such. But then WOW started to be just like EQ2, like damn near exactly! I tried the whole guild thing and got annoyed by the 5 year olds that seem to run the freakin Guilds. So i had an on and off relationship with wow for a while untill one super great day came along in which i discovered EVE, i was like WTF !! What is this crap, space huh ???  hmmm well ok free trial ill give it a shot. I watched the intro video and although not very flashy the story tingled a little spot in my belly, i was ok this seems pretty cool.

Ok ive been rambling for to long now I apologize and im sure my grammer sucks but..heh, As soon as i started working through the Tutorial i was like OMFGNFWTISFAwesome!!!!  I had finally found a true sandbox to play in , where i could do and own just about anything, that was even before now, in which time i have discovered more complexity and depth then i could have imagined.
Im the type who used to buy super complex board games and study the manuals and invite my friends to learn them so we could have fun, games like Axis and Allies dont know if anyones played it and yes i know once you get the hang of it its pretty simple but for me at 14 it was way cool and in depth.

I often find myself sitting back and just saying How the heck did they come up with this, and what took em so long =P
Anyways as you can see i have been brainwashed and my opinion is most likely do to the lack of sleep i have had for the past 5 months no thanks to EVE =)  But for someone to question validity of this games rank is not the way to go, just dont play it and dont worry about it and i am sorry you cant bring yourself to the level that allows EVE to come alive for you.
OH and one more thing, paying for a service like EVE is a pleasure for me, i am happy to contribute to CCP's dream as it is mine come true.
OH OH ok last thing, Please think on this, most of the players who play wow and such arent in these forums and nor do they care about there game or certainly not the Devs of it, i believe a vast majority of players in Eve feel they are really trying to give us what we want. I cant believe with all of the money WOW is making they cant do something about there server problems, as the people of CCP have tried to fix theres, not allways the most succesfull but they are certainly trying.

I give my most humblist Nod of super Uber aproval to EVE and its rank is well diserved !

You do realize that such extreme ratings are automatically removed from the system, right? If you really want to give EVE a high rating, go back and give it something honest.

HAHAHA, and then Sharon told me to deliver it to Wobblecog and I was like, "whatever!"  So I totally went to Wobblecog, and he was like, "Did Sharon send you?  Cause I told Cindy to tell Max to tell Sharon... did Sharon send you?"

    "Totally!"

    You've gained XP.  Congratulations!

Maybe we like our game more than other people like thier games?  I mean...it IS a niche game, but it has a loyal fanbase.  I mean, I played WOW for 8 months solid, and wouldn't rate it as high as this game in a few categories.  Popularity doesn't make something better...didn't you figure that out in middle school?

Just chill out, its a different kind of game for a different kind of person.  Knocking it in here doesn't change anything.  What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Maybe the OP is right, but I doubt it.

The reason is pretty simple...this site is not visited evenly by all type of players.

The overwhelming majority of players don't surf the internet.

EvE has some weird form of gameplay that I personaly find annoying and unappealing, yet, this type of gameplay is extremely close to...surfing the internet IMO.  Since the gameplay is basically quite close to what we are doing now, it is only natural to see many peoples surfing the internet actually been fans of EvE.

Is EvE the best game?  Nope, it doesn't deserve to be on the TOP 10, but among the "online community of peoples who surf the internet", yeah, among those peoples it is quite possible it get soo much good reviews.

Now, maybe I am wrong and the OP is right...but...a lot of online freaks, which are a tiny minority even if here they might be a majority on this site, those freaks can enjoy EvE.

Honestly, I rather play old SRE than EvE!    At least SRE has this, "must play everyday 5 minutes" feeling...which EvE don't have.

What game are you playing... that's allowing you to surf the internet?  .... I love this thread!  The reasons why Eve suck are just getting funnier and funnier!

Eve sucks because their players surf the internet!!  You're the winner so far, mate.  My neighbors can hear me laughing!!

well EVE does have an In-Game browser that you can surf the web with.  It doesnt support a whole lot but serves its purposes.  Also, does your game have an in-game pr0n site?? NO!  EVE DOES!!  It has a ton of cool stuff, even an in game calc!  Coming soon, integrated voice support!! who has that?  Not your silly game!

I dont consider eve an mmo, it;'s a space sim.

If you enjoyed Battletech 3056 sim and games like 688 where you track ships with sonar and spend hours hunting them, then you will love Eve. Also Tradewar players will love Eve's rich economy. Crafters and Social types will love Eve's gathering, building and politics.

Solo PVE players might be disappointed, as playing alone in Eve can be very boring.

Also if you are loot driven you will hate Eve.

There is no +5 firesword, everything exists to be destroyed.

Hmm.  Not quite sure how you came to that conclusion.  The term "Massively Multiplayer Online" seems to apply to EVE much more than just about any other online game on the market.  They just set a record for over 25,000 simultaneous players online (on the same server) at the same time.  That pretty much sums up "Massively Multiplayer Online" for me.

25, 000 people online at once isn't massive enough?
MMO= Massively Multiplayer Online.    Its massive (5000 systems, 20,000 online at once) and its online.    What is NOT MMO about it?
And usually for something to be described as a "simulator" it has to be based on real world physics and well...Reality.   As far as I know Jumpgates aren't real, warp cores aren't real, stasis webbifiers aren't  are real.

Microsoft flight simulator is a Flight Sim.
The closest you get to actually piloting a ship in Eve is clicking "orbit within ____KM"    Hardly a sim.
Lunar Lander was a space sim.

There IS, but in contrast to other contemporary games you can actually lose that +5 firesword equivalent in EVE :)

I hope you get banned. Please flame this thread to show that you are one of the many people who make alterante logins to inflate this game's rank.

    @topic:

At the EVE Ratings it says:
"Based on 4005 total votes." (8.3)

At the Guild Wars Rating it says:
"Based on 3340 total votes." (8.3)

At the WOW Ratings it says:
"Based on 5907 total votes." (8.2)

Please not that GW and EVE have less people rating them, and have higher rating. If we take this further:

At the Autoassault Ratings it says:
"Based on 495 total votes." (8.2 - slightly above WOW)

The less votes a game has the more likely it will end in a more extreme end of rating (good or bad). Only after a cetain amount (over 2000 can be safely assumed as a good average) you can make a good gues how a certain audience (in this case MMORPG.com visitors) likes a game/movie/whatever. So its not, the more votes, the better the rating, ofc.

Anofalye you've posted some real doozeys in the past but this one is by far your most ridiculous to date. Gamers are by far one of the most active groups of web surfers. They often use the net to get the majority of info on anything that interests them. That said if EVE was like surfing the internet it would have the largest population of any game out there.

As for it deserving to be in the top 10, well that's just your opinion and obviousily one that is not shared by the general majority of people who visit MMORPG.com. You've made it extremely clear that you don't like PVP in any form and prefer the PVE aspect of games, which is fine, but just because YOU don't like a particular aspect of the gameplay doesn't mean it's bad.

Personally I think that the mindless throng that finds grinding generic mobs in most other MMO's more entertaining than facing a real human opponent are the more appropriate ones to be called the freaks, but that is just my opinion.

That's because the people making these complaints don't understand how the rating system works here at mmorpg.com, and are talking out of their rear ends.

  • LordSlaterLordSlater Member Posts: 2,087

Unfortunatly the OP's post shows that he doesant really understand how mmorpg's voting system works. Now my acount here is farly new but i can see that the current system is a good way of weeding out opertunistic posters.

As to whether i like eve yes i do ive played it non stop for 3 years. Its a game i enjoy and im quite happy we dont get many WoW players.

Saying that tho generall rule i like to apply is that if you are enjoying your game be it everquest/wow/EVE etc then fine just so long as you are ok.
