This is a great system. You get every update that gets more and more stuff for free. But no you also want the cosmetics for free, the devs to not earn any money and you to jack off how great you are.
Go get a job and maybe youll see how much everything costs.
Came here for this. This is super important to note! Avengers' Battle Pass system is for sure the most player friendly I've seen yet.
Nope, the most player friendly system is to charge one price for the whole game and not do any exclusives or paid DLC. The second most player friendly system is having a small number of expansions that's actually worth the price and doesn't make you grind for hours.
Not at all actually.
I would rather pay $10 every say 2-3 months that's specific to what I am currently playing (said hero) and have the option to ignore it if the cosmetics suck than need to but an expansion that puts things that I cannot get otherwise and forces me to buy it just to have access (new systems, classes, ect).
Also again, it's at most only $10, one time payment. Each premium battle pass let's you earn back the 1000 credits you spend on it. No time limit. This means you can just keep using those to buy the next pass and so forth.
And how long do you have to grind to get those 1000 credits back? How many players do you think have the time to actually do that?
Not very long doing the dailies/weeklies.
I was making good progress in the beta but stopped because of the wipe.
This article could have at least included the fact that the 6 launch heroes have their premium passes unlocked for free already. Not to mention that those may include the 1000 FREE credits from completing them, each.
Even if the launch ones don't include the credits, at MOST you only have to spend $10 ONCE, complete the battle pass, and use the earned credits to buy the next one. Repeat.
Also, the exclusive stuff is literally all cosmetic fluff, don't need any of it for actual gameplay. All additional content added that matters is completely FREE, forever.
If you want more free characters and content, you have to accept the fact that they need funding from somewhere, and TBH I am shocked they even let you earn your credits back through the passes. I would have been completely fine with just paying $10 for each DLC pass anyways (probably still will, to support a game I love). Beyond fair system imo.
Whether you like battle passes or not everyone who likes to play Marvel games on PC better mow some extra lawns to buy some of these or they will dump this game FAST like Marvel Heroes.
Marvel Strike Force(mobile) comes out with new characters for $100 just to unlock at 3 stars and there are 7 stars total. You will pay either hundreds for a complete single character or spend months-years farming for their shards.
Compared to mobile this is a good deal even when you purchase everything this game will have for sale including every battle pass.
If you like Marvel PC games BUY IT like your gaming life depends on it cause it does.
If the game is a success they could possibly start coming up with more games to sell you more stuff cause that's what they do and everyone wins.

Who says they want it for free? How do you know they don't already have jobs and want a good value for their money? The devs hardly earn anything compared to the executives who are doing nothing but take credit for their work.
The points earned towards the battle pass are gained through daily and weekly challenges. Pretty easy ones at that, from what I gathered from the beta. Not much grinding to do at all tbh. Can take it at your own pace, as they are not time limited. Also this is an action looter shooter style game, so grinding kind of comes with the territory. The battle pass challenges kind of complete themselves naturally as you play. At least they did for me... Just running around on Hulk for like 45 minutes I managed to complete both dailies and the weekly without even trying.
Again, how long does it take? Weeks? Months? How do you know the release is going to be the same as the beta and what guarantee do we have that it's not going to be extended at a later date?

If we are going by the beta, then it should be about 23 days in total. You need 200 challenge points to unlock all 40 tiers. Each Daily gives 3 points, 2 challenges a day for 6 points a day - 42 per week. 2 Weekly challenges for 11 points each, so 22. So 64 total points able to be earned per week. Little over 3 weeks and you should have everything unlocked without much hassle. Like I said they are really simple challenges (you can even refresh them to get a different one if you don't like the one you got) so they take a very small amount of effort to complete, and you can't "grind" the points since they are time gated by the challenges refreshing. Pretty casual stuff honestly.
This game screams "buy it a year or two after launch". You'll get a nice bundle at a good price. I see no reason to reward them for only giving an exclusive hero, and probably the most popular one, to the PS4.
Honestly, may get a lot of hate for this but I really like this system and I hate battle passes.
The first 6 OG avengers are free. Then when a new hero shows up you pay 1,000 credits but if you finish the battle pass you get the 1,000 you spent back with 6,000 extra because that is how much is on the battle pass board. On top of that Battle passes don't expire. So you can do the same one for a year. As someone with a family this is super nice as I can take my time grinding out a battle pass and I don't have to worry about losing the skin I wanted.
To me this is the most consumer friendly battlepass yet. Still shady in a $60 game but they have done enough that I can respect what they are doing. The fact that Battlepasses don't expire is a huge win for me as I usually hate seeing a cool skin in a battlepass and knowing I will never achieve it without money.
Edit: Plus IF the game is good I have no problem buying a skin every few months or supporting a battle pass as long as they keep to there word and keep all DLC free including characters, story, raids, etc... If content is going to be free forever like they keep saying than I have no problem throwing them a bone.
I hate how in AC though they have skins and the like for sale but then charge $15 for an expansion.
Yep, same! This is a battle-pass system I can get behind actually...
You can get literally everything without additional costs and you aren't pushed to the extreme to complete everything in ~2-3 months, because the passes don't change.
It's only of you want something right now - without any wait - , that you'd need to fork out cash.
Compare that to any other battle-pass (say i.e. Destiny) that is time restricted and forces you to no-life a season, if you want to unlock everything...
Developers please take note: If you really must have a battle-pass in your full priced game, that's the way to go...
This feels more like an additional character progression way, instead of an actual money-grab-battle-pass tbh...
Greed Amplifies.... low quality game design, pump in extra for special effects and shiny factor, target a younger audience and poof a recipe for milking our youth. Another example of a company spending the least amount of money to get the most return on investment before they move onto their next scheme.. I mean game.
This game has just managed to continuously poison it's own well with Spiderman exclusivity, mobile carrier skins, 5 gum promotions, and all sorts of other tacky bullshit.
I enjoyed myself during the beta, but this game is trying REALLY hard to make people hate it.
Selling an Avengers game should be the easiest task on earth.
Aeander is as big a Marvel nut as I am, when he starts to question what's going on I get worried.

I think this is less about Marvel and more about being repeatedly burned by games in this "looter" genre.

How I see it: you buy a card if you really love the character, as it only provides some cosmetic unlocks for him/her (it?). The card stays forever, so you can take as long as you wish to unlock them while playing the character. It gives you some credits as you advance through it, so you can expend them in more cosmetics or save them to another character card, if you wish.
That's all. Not forced buys, and starting characters have all their cards for free.
Between having to buy battle passes/ DLC for unlocking new characters, or having them for free and optional battle cards, I like more this model.
Obviously all for free is better, but we're talking about extra content not included in launch.
Games used to be made by gamers.
Now they are made by bankers. They can sense the blood (profits) like sharks and would demolish any industry for a quick buck.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

This is my problem as well. By the time i unlock my favorite hero "just by playing" I've already seen the whole game so i have no reason to see it again with the character I want. It's really not a good design IMO when you get burned before even playing your favorite character.

Most people are lazy and would rather cough up the 10 bucks. Which is why in most MMO's gathering professions make the most gold.
No surprise on this at all, can still unlock everything over time, or spend money and get now... doesn't affect the game. Cannot see an issue at all other then people looking for a reason to complain
I was making good progress in the beta but stopped because of the wipe.
Define "not long". Are you talking weeks or months? Do you get a sense of "pride and accomplishment" when you made good progress?
Well doing the dailies got me a level so that's 1 per day.
Weeklies were 2-3 levels.
I was playing IM for instance and was level 8-10 (can't remember for sure) and only played him for maybe 4 hours.
So that approx 7 levels/week from dailies + 2-3 for weeklies so that's about 4 weeks to goto level 40.
Now you can do that with each hero everyday as the dailies are easy af and you can unlock all of them in about 4 weeks which will be before a new hero most likely.

So let me ask you this.
What takes more money to make, a playable hero OR a few cosmetics and items you can earn in game?
IF you count the hero (that's free) and the BP as a whole DLC they are giving you 75% of it free.
They are in no way forcing you to pay $10 for anything and it's not even important stuff that they are charging for.
Good grief some people just like to complain.

You are wrong but that's ok.

Agreed 1,000,000%

That's precisely why I don't worry about this kind of thing.
Optional purchases are optional.
