Sure they are. People ingame left ARE the ones sticking to SWG. What you expect this minority to tell you ingame? "I am stoned and lost my brain, apying for something i dont want to" ?
You wont hear "many" people admitting their completely idioticy paying for something they dont like.

Well, then stay away from something like E3.

If you have an old game not able to compete with current titles, you shouldnt spend hundred thousands of bucks to makeyourself a clown by "announcing" something which every other company would announce on their website in the 6th shoutbox on the left side from the top....

Or DO something spectacular with your "old game" and bomb the crowd. You can do this with an even 3 year old title....if you just want to.

But if you are only going to prepare your plattform publishing and PS3 porting, not spending any REAL ressource in development (against all sayings (AKA LIE's)) - then of course you have not much to show up there - except being the uber-clown there.

It's generally well known that people are more likely to post when they have something to complain about.  Most people that play the game don't even touch the forums.  So no, you can't reliably say those people on the forums represent the general attitude of the people ingame.  This is the same for ANY game forum

Heh, so what's the problem then?  They're doing stuff that people playing the game are looking forward to.  That is something they want to be doing.  You don't like it?  So what, you're not playing nor paying for it

True, im not. At least that makes me better then the one STILL paying AND complaining about it.

But for your arguement, i dont get the deeper meaning:
Wasnt it exactly what ive said, THAT the left players (of course) get excited by such announcements?
But how sad is it when this is all you can stick to?
That "your" company announces a "playerevent" on such huge convention?

I think THIS is why so many customers get upset on their forums, no?
    And FYI:
There are postings from "i-was-happy-till-today"-customers which were NOT voicing up till today.
So if you ask me, the playerbase in its whole isnt THAT confident with SoE anymore, sont you think so too?

Im just counting the negatives on the forums and the postives ingame (had the "vet-comback"-trial a few weeks ago).

Without sounding biased, but the amount of negative's is FAR more then the few left ingame.
"Few" compared to the customers the game once had.

Of course, that doesnt count for your server - That one is exploding due to overpopulation... ::::12::

  • The first thing you noticed at e3.. "everytime" anything related to SWG came up on the screen above their booth was, (and I am not joking on this)

The throng of people that kept saying what a piece of crap the game is. It was everywhere. That's the most noticable thing about SWG that I saw.

I'm not being biased in the least here. You could not help but hear it.

SOE has some decent products, but everyone that I saw knew SWG wasn't one of them. It was kind of sad really.

Station Publishing needs to distance themselves from the SOE name too. If not, their end of the buisness is going to suffer for at least a year. (E.G. Vanguard)

Sorry to say it but that was expected. Really what other than propaganda keywords like "Star Warsy" "Iconic" "Fun" ect ect were they going to show compared to other MMOs? Bugs? Crappy combat? Updates that take months?

Honestly I'm suprised they put up a booth in the first place given how bad they pooched the game.

I just hope that what they did to both the game and customers is remembered for many years to come.

Y'know, after a bit of thinking time, I don't think SWG 'bombed' at E3. Grant and the Scooby Gang went there to promo the ingame event, wave teh flag and just show tha tSWG is still alive and kicking.  And that's pretty much all they did do.

I'm going to make a BIG assumption tho, based on experience in putting exhibits together for events not dissimilar to E3.  The hall space was booked and paid for ages ago. The staff time was blocked in. The only thing that seems to have dropped off the radar in the postNGE polishing frenzy is the expected expansion which has been put off/back burnered till 'later'.

In March, when Smeds much quoted thread exploded, they had just shelved the expansion but were working on the E3 'playable demo'.  My guess? We got the veg, the meat is off.

PR wise it would probably have been worse if they'd just left a blank desk and a looping demo. OTOH, that would have meant the devs were available to actually do the polishing etc they've asked us to give them more time to do.

Compared to Blackguard Grant comes over poorly in that vid. I've said it before (even while slating the guy) but we don't know what the circumstances were, though as Producer and de fact head honcho on SWG I'd have enxpected him to have his pitch much more polished. It's not as tho he just started working on SWG last month and isn't sure of the brand, eh?

Compared to the swords'n'sorcery booths, EQ included, ours looked a bit bland.  A couple of ST's maybe? Or a droid? Dancing twi'lek?  Still, why pay more money on a presentation that's not really meant to me much more than a flag wave?

I'll admit it, I'm very, very disappointed. But in the same way as I was disappointed for students who put on a poor end of year show and I knew they had much, much more potential to dazzle.

As for 'you guys are jerks that just want the game to die' etc. Nah, if anything I want the game to be MUCH more than it currently is. Any disenchantment in my posts just reflects the fact that the game itself is failing to wow*  when it could be knocking folks socks off.

Anyhow, till we see what the 'official' presentation is there's not much left for any of us to say now.

They could have pulled SWG from E3 very easily if they wanted.  It's not like it had it's own special stall rented out.  They could have taken the space used it for EQ2 or some other SOE game.

They didn't though, and infact SWG was showed off at two different stalls:  the SOE one AND the LA one.

It's not fair to compare Blackguards peice and R5's peice in the video.  That is Blackguards job, he is employed to deal with the public about the game (as far as I'm aware, he's not a Dev).  They really should have had Thunderheart do the SWG peice, since he is the SWG equivilant of Blackguard.

Obraik, i would agree, but i cant.

See, SoE isnt a newcomer company, first time on E3.

They DO know better. They claim to be a worldwide acting "old settled" company but on the other hand they send uber-nervous non professionals on the stage representing them and their products ?

Nope Sir, sorry, that is just plain wrong and incompetent as it could be. Every1 is bashing on SoE, how incompetent and clueless they are. You dont send such "noobs" on the stage in this situation, you get professionals, with a professional appearance, a stunning program, some lighteffect, a little buffet and the always-smiling "you are right, i take care about it Sir"-guys.

But not a punk looking like Gandalf from the 10th floor dropping the mikro almost....

That is the so called "Leader of Onligamingworld" company ?
    Ahh....i understand.....yep, can i have a cookie plz ? ::::02::

There is no room for "should" anymore, Obraik.
We all read too many "shoulds" in the past. "Should" is over now "do" and "will" is the magic ....

Anyways, I really expected much more from this, even from SoE. I mean they cancel an expansion project for this pile of shit event, LA shows up with like 4 games and an expansion to EaW. 1 of them is for cell phones which equals instant waste of time and money, 1 is some dumbass lightshow/music thing and its on the PSP which also means instant failure, 1 is a jock of Roller Coaster Tycoon, and the other is an unnammed Star Wars game, which promises to deliver the Star Wars experience unlike anyother Star Wars game. In other words its just a pile of rehashed ideas and prefrabed textures pulled from a previous SW game, and thrown into a new box.

Both these companies can go away. They dont deserve any vulgar words from me, all I have to tell them is to just go away.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!

"The intention of this themepark is to cover our bases with E3 and develope a new set of repeatable, high end content for all of you.

The expansion team, which is no more, is now working on nothing but high end content that will be sent out in our regular publishes."

The only intent for this "event" was to allow for a means to show off SWG at E3?  And the entire expansion team has been liquidated into other aspects of SOE's segmented development process namely "player events"?

Here we see a key member of the development studio state that there's no longer an investment of capital towards the creation of expansions.  This means they are unable to justify an investment since there's a lack of market for a possible product enhancement.

To me, the post from "SpaceRancor, Eli Holding" and "Smedly" was a clarification that they have a total lack of faith in SWG as a lucrative product and are forced to further cut back investment upon this product to prevent further loss of their investers resources.

It's sad.  SWG pre-cu was an awesome game.  I would chalk it up to the best MMO I've ever played even through the bugs and flaws in design.  All they had to do then would have been focus on the bugs and establish a new player tutorial that was intuitive and the game would have done better.

The lesson learned here is that of greed.  Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I thought the purpose of the E3 SWG demo was to bring people back to the game with a huge event that will forever change the game (as if they havent done this enough times...). Sorry  I disagree with you there.. They promised something huge for all at E3... My advice to them would be to deliver next time..

Exactly. All the promises and they failed miserably. A player event does not change the game forever, or save it.

Do a Google search on the coverage. There are a lot of blogs out there that are saying basicly "wow, a player event.... amazing... *yawn" No one was impressed. Other MMO companies are laughing about, check thier forums and the sarcastic comments by the responding Dev's.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Quite frankly, it was clear from what little effort both SOE & LA put into SWG this E3 that they have writen it off. It's dead to them, and they will let it die.
They claimed this E3 would "Shake-Up SWG as we knew it", and instead, they've offered re-hashed content that even the forum Fanboi's expect to be a lagfest.
So what will happen next? Will it shut down? Will it slowly die as a joke? Will they admit they were wrong and offer Classic Servers? They've lost everything, so they may not look at it as a loss to do so now, but I doubt it. Their arrogance is their downfall. They will NEVER admit they screwed up, and because of that, a game that would have gone on for years will now die disgraced.

SWG is much bigger now. Much much bigger.

The only question is, a bigger what? I could think of several things it applies to. Some start with pile of ..., load of ..., stinking pile of ..., and some which don't even need obfuscation, such as rip-off, disaster, joke.
