Isn't the game single player and co-op pve only?

I approve of the punishment, but it also sounds like their game is just ez to mess with.

I think it's hilarious that they're willing to brand players with a watermark if they're cheating. At the same time, it's a single player game with co-op PvE and matchmaking. So the idea is also incredibly stupid. They've already said themselves that this isn't going to be a live service game, so I don't really see a big deal if people cheat. Outside public matchmaking (which is a thing) I think it should just lock them out of that entirely.

If people want to cheat or tweak their characters in single player mode, let them. If they try to go online with those same characters and play with randoms I think that's when punishment should be handed out.

It's not live service but it is an online multiplayer game. I think it's important to brand players as cheaters.

For example I remember when people were messing with gear stats for marvels avengers. Players would have full gear stat rolls that were impossible,  but were attempting to convince others that it all happened naturally.

That game is pve only too, and the multiplayer is similar to outriders, even if one is considered a live service game and the other isn't.  The point is, when playing with others in an online capacity, falsely portraying your characters as something other players can do within the game, without cheating, is a terrible thing.

It is ridiculous, stupid and will not stop anything.

Will anyone that goes to the trouble to look for and use cheats ever care that they have a water mark? No they will play the game their way till they are tired of it and move to the next.

Brain dead is right...they can not even make a decent game that stops cheaters AND they can not even bother to ban them. Instead they make more work to water mark people...one of the most stupid things ever.

It boggles me that a struggling GAAS game would go full moron with a boneheaded move like this. In my opinion this just makes them look like a bunch of incompetent desperate dicks.

If they must resort to Easy Anti-Cheat and degrading name-shaming it tells me there are some huge flaws in their core game design. Don't take that out on the paying customers even if they are cheating. Ban them outright, but don't brand them with the idea that they'll keep spending money or promoting the game. It's just as fucked up as people cheating. What a dirtbag studio.

Outriders is not a "GAAS" game, may i suggest you read up on what the game actually is?

I don't see how it's a dumb move, seems like the best move they can make. No game is cheat free, the game has no competitive side so cheating isn't so serious in the first place so banning is unnecessary and if someone wants to cheat and just blast through the game solo they can do so without worry, just separate cheaters so they can't cheapen others experiences and watermark them so streamers and youtubers can't make money by secretly cheating and creating "CHECK OUT THIS INSANE GRIND SPOT OUT I GOT 10 LEGENDARIES IN A HOUR!!!" videos, simple and easy.

Even if I got this game for free I wouldn't care to play it. It's like a bad mix of Mass Effect and Gears but worse than both. I get the hate for cheaters but allowing them to play still is a bit odd of a choice. It just means they get to still play but with other cheaters which I am sure many of them wouldn't care. Why not just outright ban them? Watermark shouldn't be a thing because it promotes those good ol witch hunts. Making everyone aware that this certain streamer is a cheater is pretty messed up. Just ban them and don't let them play anymore... Doing something like showing who's a cheater is a pretty bad thing. There are so many crazy people out there who legit threaten people who cheat so, doing something like putting a target on their stream is just a bad choice. This choice is going to promote a lot of messed up hate.
  • UngoodUngood Member LegendaryPosts: 7,534
I love this, I think this is more fitting then banning people, just tagging them with an In-game watermark as a cheater, they will never be able to upload a stream or video with any kind of bragging rights.

Love this sooo much.. gonna go check them out.

I would rather they do exactly what they are doing. Don't ban them. Let them only play with other cheaters. Put a huge watermark in the corner for all to see. Works for me. All games should do this. Want to cheat in a game to make it look like you have accomplished something, that is fine you shouldn't lose your game for that. You should lose the ability to play with others that don't cheat though. Only people that would have a problem with this solution is most likely people that like to cheat in games.

Oh you are so wrong on this. Cheaters hate other cheaters, and that would piss them off so bad they would rage quit.

The Watermark is epic, as it would expose cheaters, it would destroy their cred, which is why cheaters cheat to start with, they want to win, but this mark, would brand them as the apex loser.

I would love if other games like Overwatch, and Fortnight also used this tactic.

I get why they are talking about it since it seems nobody can thwart cheating from their games but then that is just another reason to not play such games.I was heavily in to pvp shooters then one day i just had enough, cheating ruins the game so badly it is not worth the headache.

Cheaters hate other cheaters? That is a vague statement because i know from first hand convos within COD they praise each other.I was complaining on a server at how many were cheating and was bombarded by little kids telling me i was jealous and that the cheats are just smarter than me ..lol.

Then those little kids began begging the cheats askign where they could get the cheats.I just gave up,nobody cares, gaming run by little dumbass kids who think cheating is "cool".

Not sure where people are getting this is a single player game with optional Co-op. This game is very much designed and balanced around co-op. Yes SP can do it, but your essentially locking yourself out of 2 of the 4 classes if you do since 2 of them aren't really viable at lower levels. Nobody but the devs know how they all play beyond the demo.

If I were going to play the game beyond the demo, I would welcome what they have in mind for those who cheat. I have no plans to play it though once it's live. The controls for me felt sluggish, the duck mechanic is awful, and I would be playing it solo if I were to play it and I don't care for either class that is doable solo (at least at lower levels).

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

Single player game cheating is an individual choice and I am quite puzzled why they would extend it to the single player game. The multiplayer matches I can understand but why the single player cheating too is a baffling choice.

This is honestly one of the dumbest things I have ever heard...why not just ban the account? Like wut? Plus it has EAC which is one of the better anti-cheat clients although nothing is perfect. To me this just screams I'm a mad developer because I cant make a good game so im going to cry about it.

Just ban the cheaters and move on...

Amusing idea I have heard many times before in sports talk forums but someone is actually doing that here?

First of all, bans are pointless. Most are just temp bans anyway, so they have zero bite to them. Once a dummy account gets banned the Hack Program Provider just looks for new ways to bypass the anti-cheat software, and being banned allows them to use that as a benchmark of where to work from. Other times, they will even coach their clients on how to present counters why they should not lose access their account. And upon returning, they can continue on as if nothing ever happened. posting videos, screenshots, etc, on social media, like nothing ever happened, keeping all their cred intact. Making the whole thing a huge pain in the ass for the company trying to stop cheating, and vastly pointless.

However, just tagging them with a watermark, and moving on, is not only super easy, it also removes any cred they try to build outside the game, as they can't share their screenshots, videos, or anything else of their supposed victories on any social media platform, as such this removes the core reasons why many players cheat to start with. They want to win and they want to brag about it.

This is something that I have wished had been done much sooner by competitive PvP Games, like big ticket games like Overwatch, Fortnight, CoD, and many others.

With this "Scarlet Letter" system in place, I bet that whole L2P BS that some gamers toss out, will suddenly end, because now others can demand SS's or Vids of how great they are, and when they either refuse, or see that mark.. Nahh man.. just another poser.

I so wish PvP games adopt this system going forward, as opposed to bans. This is so much better. Hurts them where it really counts, in the Ego and Bragging Rights.

What money? There's no microtransactions in the game, infact, they're losing money by not forcing them to rebuy the game if they wanted to continue.

They brag because they are not at risk of being exposed, there is no way to prove they were cheating, as such, they can continue to boast and brag they are just better than everyone else and that others need to L2P, and are just salty of their greatness.

This watermark changes all that, and would let all the legit players mock and belittle them, call them losers and posers, failures that can't play, and that they suck so bad they need to cheat, and that kind of humiliation is in fact what they would fear beyond being wrongfully temp banned, it would also kill any chance they had to stream their game, or take screen shots, crying about other others. LOL!

This is something I talked with others about, some way to outs the cheaters, but not ban then, as banning is pointless, and this idea of a watermark on their screen, is positively brilliant to that end.

All the little cheaters, showing that they can't play.. LOL.

I am seeing the cries now "I was wrongfully watermarked" LOL.. it will happen, and really no one should believe them. But the cries will be there, and they will be a thing of beauty.
