To say people have been excited for New World has been an understatement as the MMO officially hit its long-awaited closed beta today. As a result, thousands upon thousands of players descended upon the MMO, with SteamDB showing nearly 200K people jumping into Aeternum as the floodgates opened this morning.

I actually like it, though some things such as lack of tab/target takes some getting used to after playing so much FFXIV. There are some things that are buggy, stuff that needs work, but all can be done in time. For now it's actually a semi-decent western MMO beta.

This game and Lost Ark will pretty much put a fork in SOL.

Just gotta add that I like chopping trees in this game, something about that echo. xD

Watching Asmongold on Twitch with 130k other viewers, looks better than I expected. Maybe Amazon will have its first game success after all.

My biggest concern is WHY are these people jumping in?Why is it a concern well hype and popularity are a huge motivating factor and can garner a less than average game a lot more money than it deserves.
A popular trend can also snowball and have tons more jumping in on a whim.
So i wonder how many actuall yresearched this game, had a distinct TYPE of game they were looking for compared to how many are just throwing money blindly at the new "IN GAME ".

if the vast majority are actually looking for a game like this and feel it meets their criteria for quality "if they have any criteria"then great enjoy the game you sought out.I somehow feel the very high majority are jumping in for no reason other than addicted to spending money on every new hyped game that comes out,i call this "foolish spending".

Twitch streamers are giving away free beta keys left and right. Come see me at release when that 200k suddenly turns into 10k.

    I'll say why I pre-ordered.

The game has been in development for a few years, and the dev team responded when the users said full PvP wasn't going to make it.

They have an actual release date, instead of a perpetual alpha scam.

You can pre-order, and then get a refund if you don't like it. (I never do this though).

And, the world looks beautiful. That is almost enough on its own.

Amazon's new world is a fun game, its problems on depth and longevity of play will come soon as people progress. The GvG will hold for a while but it's where the game design changes are going to need to seriously invest to retain people.

An alpha that went from full loot pvp with base-building to what it is today, it's been quite the ride, but if they are committed they should be able to hold growth.

I5-6600K, R9 Fury and 16 GB. Getting old these days, unfortunately.

On medium settings the game ran at about 30-40 FPS when near town. Lots of stutter and lower drops when moving the camera a lot, like in combat.

Could have played more on low settings, but if I'm on low at release then my poor old rig wont hold up to future updates.
With all of the new MMOs releasing this year no better time to get a new PC, well GPU prices not withstanding.

I have an i7 2600s with an Rx570 16GB RAM. I didn't seem to stutter on medium and the lowest fps i had was around 27 and that was around the starting campfire with several people. I have played less than an hour so far and just made in into the town.  So far i can't really complain performance wise

So far it's been decent. It is very ArcheAge/ESO-esque , which is ok because I liked those game for the most part.

Let's see if it keeps me wanting to log in after a few days.

I'm glad a lot of people are enjoying it. Personally it bored the crap out of me and I refunded after 3 hours in. Back to FF14 I go I guess.

Played for 13h today (PvE). It looks awesome, crafting is deep, could use horses as mounts, but overall it just feels like any other average 'go fetch' MMO. There's nothing really unique about it. I like the combat, but again, it doesn't 'feel' any different from other games. Grabbing items from your Storage Unit when crafting is a great idea. It certainly makes it easier than dragging everything to the merchants when you need to craft a lot of crap. But that was the only thing that really stood out to me after 15 levels or so.

The taskbar is a bit disappointing. The slots should be wide open to player choices, instead of limiting them to specific functions. Let the player decide where they want to put their food and how many weapons they want to carry. Take off those useless level limits too. I'd love to hear the justifications for those. And there doesn't seem to be an ALT or 2nd row for the taskbar and that's kinda limiting as well.

Also, there seems to be an overabundance of loading screens, especially while crafting. These can be incorporated into already existing screens. No need to be switching back and forth when one screen will do.

And, finally, standing around waiting while harvesting finishes gets old -really- fast and breaks the immersion. I guess I'm too used to 'controlling' the swings. It just feels more natural.

All of these issues are very minor though. The game runs very smoothly, with consistent 40+ fps and <20ms ping on a US-East server and an Nvidia GTX 1060 with 3meg RAM. To be completely fair to the game, I guess I'm just to used to survival games now. There's nothing really wrong with New World but playing 'fetch' just isn't my thing anymore. I really don't see that much difference from ESO either, gameplay-wise, and I already have that. It's just sitting in my Steam inventory, uninstalled.

So, yeah, I'm going to play for the whole 2 weeks of the beta, but if it doesn't change much as it progresses, then I'll likely refund it.

With steams controller layout and it should work flawlessly, it's action combat and you only have 3 skills.
Should be a config for the game out from other players that should work. Only downside is the HUD is still in mouse/keyboard layout.
