When fewer people discuss something its because something it has become less relevant and the old mmorpg hype don't exist anymore.
Everyone used to talk about WoW, that's not really the case anymore. At this point ff14 seems more popular when it comes to mmorpg. Korean mmorpg can gain some initial attention but it tends to be very short lived outside of cliques. New western mmorpg just ain't happening anymore.
This site and others wanted to expand on the MMO terminology just to have some more things to talk about but they don't feel like mmorpg and the hype tends to be short lived.
As for the banning, lots of people start discussing the subject and then ends up making it personal instead.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

Except you actually do not. What good is a discussion site that continually loses members and this thread is even about the result of that... No more user generated discussions.
If your only goal is to be the last person standing so you can talk to yourself then yeah... you control your own fate. But if the goal here is to actually have a robust community with a variety of discussions then.. no you do not control your fate. And I've honestly never been more discouraged than after this very thread.

I believe Warg might've gotten a temp ban for posting with the stated intent of flaming to tempt another into getting a new ban. I know he was joking, but that seems like the only thing I read from him that might get a mod to act.

We often ignore basic Netiquette and suffer the consequences of our actions but I don't try to blame other posters as the source of the problem.
It's just not that difficult to not run off at the keyboard and get reported / banned.

I'd like to point out that almost every poster in this thread could be "banned" for one or more reasons based on posts in this thread.
If you look at the posted rules.. some of them are absurd. I mean... a medium infraction even includes things like talking about unofficial servers or emulators. I mean, we even literally had an article a few weeks ago about games that deserve an emulated version.
It's always subjective what constitutes Topic Hijacking, Trolling, Flaming, "Game Attacks", Off Topic Posting, Hateful Content, etc...

The solution, again, is not to ban the "offender" but to use the tools given to us to block them. It's really simple. But that doesn't let you "win" I guess. Gotta stop the other person from talking instead of controlling what each of us individually hears or sees. The very fact that these people exist is so abhorrent that its not enough to no longer see them, we must insure they are silenced forever.
But regardless of whether you think it's right, wrong, or indifferent... it's been proven RIGHT IN THIS VERY THERAD that a major driver for the shift toward MOP like Editor Only topics is because we continually BAN the community members that create the other content. This is not even debatable.
There were at LEAST 4 posters in this very thread who were banned during the discussion. Think about that. Even if you disagree with every single thing I posted above, you HAVE to agree that if we stay on this path.. eventually there is nobody left to post at all. I guess the last person gets to turn off the lights and "win" the game...

Actually... it likely had zero to do with that. It actually falls squarely under the Medium Infraction listed below. Just a guess based on the lack of any other info.
